The worst Indian meal we have ever had and we have eaten at many excellent Indian restaurants. This is definitely one of them. Where do we start - the “nan” is unlike any we have ever eaten it is more like a flat bread. The curry had loads of grease and hardly any chicken. The rice is not like regular saffron rice, which is much finer. The pics speak for themselves. It was expensive for sub-standard food and we won’t be returning.

I ordered take out - Lamb biryani from Dhaba express For all the biryani lovers, we know that biryani is not only food for the stomach but also for the soul. Unfortunately! this biryani from Dhaba spoiled everything today. When I open the thin round box of biryani all that is visible was cumin which is Jeera Basmati rice, 2 raw green cardamom (no sign of ever been cooked with biryani), yellow colouring rice and boiled lamb meat, of course oil at the bottom. It was lunch closing time between 3-4pm and I went back after 4 to speak with the manager. The manager was kind enough to put me through to the owner. I had ordered biryani from Dhaba before and it was gorgeous. (With no cumin) The owner did admit by saying that’s how they have been cooking the biryani as they mixed it with cumin/jeera. I told him cumin does not go with biryani and he was loud and adamant that’s what they have been doing and he said to me that I probably don’t know how to cook biryani. I don’t have to know how to cook biryani but I sure do know ‘how to taste one’ Hence, according to the owner cumin rice mixed with yellow rice is their biryani. Well in that case I highly recommend to order biryani from somewhere else where they make it the right and authentic way. Who vote these guys best in HRM? Jeera rice is $5.99 versus biryani at $17.99. Thanks for hearing me out

The quality if the food has dropped to nearly zero. This place was good in the past but after giving it a few chances never going back. nan bread is store bought and nothing is fresh. All tastes like it was made a week ago and reheated. they pretty much gave up. Had stomach issues for the night and i’m used to indian food

Lamb Curry was 3 large pieces of fat; two large bones, a bit of meat and at least 50 small bones to choke on. Could not eat it. Also I orderd Seafood shorba and got a chicken soup instead. Finally; out of respect I emailed them to give them a chance to make good. No response after 10 days; (website states we will get back to you within 48 hrs) hence I write this review. Has something changed with these folks? Reviews are brutal the past 6 months.

We were drawn here by the aromas as we passed on our way to CBSA nearby. We had a lovely lunch which was very tasty. We chose what was on special, recommended by the waitress. The staff were friendly, welcoming and efficient. Very good curry.

I absolutely classify Dhaba Express as a hidden gem of Halifax. I have only ever gone for the weekend buffet and it has been stellar each and every time. On my most recent visit I fell in love with the samosa chat and the punjabi chicken. I highly, highly recommend.

.............. DO NOT ORDER ........... Best indain restaurant in Halifax for 7 years and you sell fake processed square chicken pieces and call Kaibabs...... doesn't chicken curry come with chicken. It was enough to feed a 5 year old child ... ohh I forgot you get a ½ pice of Naan for 3.75 the other half came with the curry.... Clearly it was bought it 2021 after winning 7 years in a row for best indaian food in all of Halifax and the new owners living of the name ....or anyone can claim to be the best .............DO NOT ORDER ..........

Order combo(roti+dal+ Veg sabzi) via Uber eats as I was sick and unable to cook. The dal and sabzi quantity was very less, taste was ok. The roti’s sent was ready made which we find in Walmart. This was very disappointing, being Indian restaurant they cannot prepare fresh roti’s. This meal was honestly worth 6$ but meal price was 12$ as it was with Uber I paid 17.50$. I will never order from here.

Location is ok, although there are free parking, but the parking is tight and crowded Decorations and layout is ok although it can be designed better, the place is big and can fit large groups. I didn't see the place romantic or cozy. I see it friendly environment. Hospitality wasn't plausible (specially the front desk lady). Services, was good however the food took too much time before we got it . and appetizer we did not get. Food, for me was delicious and rich, lots of rice and chicken pieces 😋 Cleanliness, was okay acceptable, it took sometimes to clean the tables. Prices compare to the qty of food is excellent and within expectations. Conclusion, for my self I will come back for sure. The day we went was valentines day and to be fair with them it must be the timing went made our experience look like low.

Food is 10/10 as always. Not sure what happened to staff. The guy who served us was really very adamant. Really disappointed with the service, tried to get hold of manager before writing here but when we called the restaurant after leaving owner/manager was not at site. Dhaba used to be such a friendly restaurant with amazing staff, just because of unfriendly & arrogant service, you may lose regular customers. Apart, we loved the food <3

I cancelled my staff lunch at a sit-down resto because of sharply rising Covid cases, then had to find a take-out option that wasn't fast food. I had never been to Dhaba and took the chance. Great food! Authentic, delicious, generous servings and fast! This will become our staff lunch meeting go to :) It smelled so great and I ate it so fast I forgot to take a photo; just had a bit of the yummy rice left when I remembered.

I have tried their paneer tikka masala, 4 tandoori roti with rayta. There was nothing like gravy or cary. It was more like only a tomato catchup. Tanoori nan was too crunchy and overcooked. I will not recommend this place to anyone. For sure, i will not get there again. not satisfied.

The buffet on Sunday afternoon costs $17.99 and they have decent # of options. I will say this place is indocanadian more so than Indian 🤔🤔 the food is neutral spice n flavor for an Indian. It will be good selection of items for someone who wants to try few things n good quantity and not spend close to a $100 then go for the buffet. We tried their menu items before and we were of course able to ask the spice level we want and those tasted good. Definitely more expensive than buffet.

Really terrible food. Ordered chicken tikka garlic naan, tawa roti. Chicken pieces used in biriyani and tikka masala are the same not sure stored from how many days , really dry and felt like rubber . After informing them they took the biryani off from the bill but the experience is what ruined. Not coming here again neither suggesting any one to come here either

Food is tasty, but butter chicken had a sweet and sour taste, did not like that. Thandoori chicken curry is also very delicious. Butter naan is super big, One is enough to fill your stomach. Authentic Indian taste.

If I pay for food I expect that it’s not packaged or frozen food heated up and called “fresh”. The taste overall was good but I can guarantee 200% that the breads were packaged and heated up. The frozen kebab was heated up and served. It was tasty but guess what! they didn’t make it. I’m not coming back!

This is my second time here. First time issue with the order: I ordered Indian coffee while ordering I asked is it Indian coffee? The person over the phone said yes it is. When I picked up my order I got regular coffee (literally and the person there told me she can put masala in it to make it Indian coffee 🥲) Second time: I ordered Dal palak and Tawa naans (same as tandoori naan but just MADE on Tawa instead) and I received store bought packaged naans I can literally get them for 5 bucks which I literally paid 2.75 each because they warmed the food up for me. Like there is no issue with it, but display and give an honest description of your food on your menu and also if you’re doing it then charge accordingly. This is so ridiculous, when u ordered something and given something else. Do not justify anything just update the menu. Do that people don’t expect extra. Thanks!

Delish Indian dishes! Was truly a tastebuds sensation. Beef vindaloo 🔥 chicken Tikka masala was saucy and melted in your mouth. Naan was crispy and delish. The service was on point. Our server was readily available and made sure we had a great experience. Beautifully decorated for Christmas. Great atmosphere

With all the varied reviews for this place I was a bit hesitant. But had been craving an Indian dish for some time. Went for take-out. Decided to eat in. Table for one. Please. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Had the Tikka Masada and garlic Naan. Asked for extra spicy. Was perfect. Naan was pillowy and pulled apart like a dream. Was it that I had low expectations? I don't think so. Halifax doesn't have a mecca of great Indian food to choose from. But I will certainly be back! Couldn't stage the table for the pic as needed to dive in!

Good food with decent portion sizes. Nice seating, good ambiance. Samosa Chat was good, kids really enjoyed it. Liked Dal Makhani and Chicken tikka masala with Kerala Parotta and Tandoor rotis. Little pricey though !!

I recently ordered the Beef Vindaloo, Dal, and Thali from Dhaba Express, and it was a mouthwatering experience. The Beef Vindaloo had the perfect balance of spicy and tangy flavors, and the meat was tender and flavorful. The Dal was a comforting and creamy complement, showcasing the mastery of Indian lentil dishes. The Thali was a delightful way to sample a variety of dishes in one meal, offering a range of flavors and textures that left me fully satisfied. It's clear that Dhaba Express takes great care in preparing their dishes, and the result is a truly authentic and delicious Northern Indian dining experience. Whether you're a fan of spicy curries or appreciate the warmth of comfort food like Dal, Dhaba Express is a fantastic choice for exploring the diverse and flavorful world of Indian cuisine in Halifax. I'll definitely be ordering from them again!" 🍛🌶️

Extremely disappointed in our experience. Was giving this restaurant a second chance however they made the exact same mistake as last time only this time also forgot another item. We ordered off DoorDash, I requested the butter chicken sauce as I do not eat meat. I asked in the instructions to contact me if this was not possible and I was order something else. No one contacted and for the second time I received half the amount of sauce with chicken. We also did not receive our samosas so I literally did not have a meal. I called the restaurant requesting a refund. They declined and when the forwarded me to a manager it actually was just another staff member. I asked if the samosas and an alternative meal could be delivered as we love right by the restaurant. They said the could not do this and forwarded me to DoorDash who would also not refund the full meal as per policy. This was a huge inconvenience and I highly recommend anyone seeking some Indian food to resort to an alternative restaurant to avoid disappointment.

Consistency in flavors, very good service and good value for the money, that’s what I’ve always liked about Dhaba. The consistency of flavors really matters to me…. If you’ve ever asked for Mild and got a dish that made your scalp sweat, you know what I mean. :)

I wanted this to be so much better as I LOVE Indian food. But this was a disappointing lunch stop. The portions were warm, not hot. The sauce had separated and appeared to have been prepared from frozen. The naan lacked the distinctive markings and flavour of one prepared in a tandoori oven. With so many restaurants competing in this space, there is no place for complacency.

90$ delivery, rice not included with any portions. It was not good...cold, dry chicken or beef hard to tell. Lots of heat but no flavour. 4 years ago this was my favourite Indian take out. Customer service was unhelpful...I wasn't in a great mood speaking with them but this was not good food. So very sad. Maybe eating in is a better experience?
