A very beautiful opera building, but a bit in black tones; there's the exact same building but lighter in Odesa, Ukraine - it looks much nicer. But it's a very beautiful building too, unfortunately I couldn't go to the concert.

It is a magnificent opera house with beautiful architecture. In the summer, they don't have a lot of concerts or events, so we didn't go inside this time. However, we have seen some ballet and Staatskapelle performances before, and they were truly impressive.

This place is a must see of if you don't see an opera or show. It's exquisite on the inside and you get a tour and the history of it you do need to book time slots due to the tours being available in different languages.

(Translated by Google) Until a few years ago I sang in the children's choir of the Semperoper. Apart from the rear annex, the Semperoper is, in my opinion, the most beautiful building Dresden has to offer. Simply magical :) (Original) Habe bis vor einigen Jahren im Kinderchor der Semperoper gesungen. One of the three great opera houses in the world. If you come to Dresden, do everything possible to see an actual opera here. For us it was a wonderful event, musically and artistically beautiful!

A wonderful tour about the opera, telling about it's heartbreaking history and faithful people who kept rebuilding it despite all the obstacles. And opera interior is absolutely astonishing! Truly worth visiting! (Unfortunately, didn't attend an actual performance)

Its designation is due to the name of the architect Gottfried Semper that built it in the year 1841. His style features a combination of Renaissance influences, baroque and even Corinthian that can be seen in its columns. The building suffered several very profound damages over its years. years of existence. After a violent fire, bombings in World War II, it was being rebuilt and the current version dating from 1981, constitutes a good example of the Baroque architecture of the city of Dresden. The Semper Opera House, is a hall of reference among Opera theaters in Europe, in particular, its excellent acoustics. Its location in the historic center of Desdren, next to the river Elbe it gives you a framework of great beauty. It is possible and deserves to visit its interior which presents an exquisite decoration ! (Original) A Ópera Semper é a Sala de Concertos da Orquestra da Companhia Estatal de Dresden. This opera house is like concentrated essence of Dresden. There's endless gilt and ceiling paintings and they have a big tassel budget. Operas have surtitles in German and English, the seats are comfortable and sightlines are good. The only slight criticism is that they don't do halftime ice-cream. I feel a little sugar rush is what you need in the interval instead of booze.

Gorgeous building! Visiting here is a must if you are in Dresden. I am sure it would be amazing to see a show here. I recommend going on a guided tour at night. The only disappointing thing is the tour is advertised as "Behind the curtains" but you do not go backstage and cannot even see the stage due to a huge fire-safety door.

Even though we were late they let us in on se second act and we watched from a television the first part of the play

We went to see Hänsel and Gretel …. Very interesting play. A bit new age I wished the focus would have been more on the witch rather the parents and didn’t get what the 7 dwarfs and snowhite plus other fairytale Charakters Place was but overall I loved it. It’s one of the most famous operas and yes they had English and German titles playing . I didn’t need it but very helpful ! Loved it.

Very beautiful place. Reminds me opera house in Odessa, Ukraine :) FYI: The Odessa National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet is the oldest opera house in Ukraine and the best theater in the country at the time of opening. A modern building was built in 1887 (previous was destroyed by fire) by Viennese architects Fellner and Helmer, who also built theaters in Vienna, Budapest, Salzburg and other European cities. Dresden Opera, which was built four years earlier became the model for Odessa Theater.

Magnificent, whilst not going there for an performance, but rather the tour. I was amazed with the history and information the guide provided. Maybe next time in Dresden I'll go for a performance. Such a beautiful building thank god the DDR regime allowed it to be rebuilt to it's original form

Everything is easy, ticketing is good and seats are easy to find. The seats are not comfortable but you can endure for two hours. We have a good view of the performances, which means if you want to know everything that's going on, you'll have to pay more for a ticket. You have to be very fast for WC especially in pause. The building is wonderful but not as I expected. The exterior of the building is more magnificent.

We did a guided tour in english with Paula Lange. She was fantastic!! Make sure you buy the photo license from the main cash desk before your tour! Paula gave us A lot of info about the building of the theatre. And we got to sit in the theatre and watch the stage hands work - it depends what time of day but you might see a rehearsal, or learn special things about the backstage. The building is gorgeous! rebuilt after the 2nd world war so most is not original, but it doesn’t take away from the beauty at all!

Very nice building and an amazing performance. We bought the tickets couple months ahead online, which worked out very well. The acoustics of the theater were very good. Washrooms were as accessible. Unfortunately we did not manage to get something to drink due to the long queues before and during the performance. They should definitely stop the espresso machine, it took so long and that’s why we could get a drink. Next time I’ll take something with me I guess.

Dresden’s Semperoper, part of the Zwinger complex, is the most famous opera house in Germany and one of Europe’s most historic and renowned centres of music. It was closed during World War II, in August 1944, and six months later destroyed by the Allied air attacks. Its reconstruction took a long time, almost 40 years. Tip: Photos are stunning at night time.

Although I was not inside, I viewed the opera well enough from outside to give myself an opportunity for rating. It is magnificent and beautiful architecture achievement. This opera is not so full of different decorative details as the one in my hometown, although they were built by the same author, but this building looks no less beautiful and impressively with its solidity and grandeur.

  • 4/5 Vỹ N. 3 years ago on Google
The building is considered to be a prime example of "Dresden Baroque" architecture. It is situated on the Theatre Square in central Dresden on the bank of the Elbe River. On top of the portal there is a Panther quadriga with a statue of Dionysos. The interior was created by architects of the time, such as Johannes Schilling. Monuments on the portal depict artists, such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Friedrich Schiller, William Shakespeare, Sophocles, Molière and Euripides. The building also features work by Ernst Rietschel and Ernst Julius Hähnel. In the pre-war years, the Semperoper premiered many of the works of Richard Strauss. In 1945, during the last months of World War II, the building was largely destroyed again, this time by the bombing of Dresden and subsequent firestorm, leaving only the exterior shell standing. Exactly 40 years later, on 13 February 1985, the opera's reconstruction was completed. It was rebuilt to be almost identical to its appearance before the war, but with the benefit of new stage machinery and an accompanying modern rear service building. The Semperoper reopened with the opera that was performed just before the building's destruction in 1945, Carl Maria von Weber's Der Freischütz. When the Elbe flooded in 2002, the building suffered heavy water damage. With substantial help from around the world, it reopened in December of that year.

Before the pandemic this was a great cultural experience in Dresden. For students in winter 2020, they had a deal to pay a reduced cost to see 4 shows. You can pick up the tickets at the box office and decide the showtimes and seating. It is formal attire preferred based on the shows I saw back in 2019-2020. Not sure when these activities will resume. When it does, I recommend going early to see the opera house itself, it's beautiful. If you do get bundled tickets, switch it up -- try viewing the performances from the balcony, floor and different seating areas. It was a great way to really take in the venue.

Unfortunately, I only know this dream from memories of my ancestors and from the new photos, because I no longer live in Dresden. I am still happy about this miracle of Dresden. THANK YOU to all rebuilders, all musicians who have made old traditions come true again.
