One of the best sandwiches I've ever had in my life, anywhere on this planet. You can't go to Bermuda and not pop in here for a carryout lunch. Cash only, no tables, so plan to eat in your car, eat standing talking to the locals or the awesome people behind the counter if it's not too busy... Or carry out over to the Crystal Caves or back to the beach or a bench in Hamilton. The sandwich is perfectly fried fish, not greasy, lovely and moist with a crispy batter. Served on excellent locally-made raisin bread, you've got to have it with all the trimmings, including hot sauce. Their fries are good too, but I usually don't have room for them. Wash it all down with a cold ginger beer and you have the quintessential Bermuda lunch.

A hidden gem. The way I was greeted and treated at Art Mel’s immediately won me over. They took hospitality to a new level on my trip to Bermuda, and I will be forever grateful. On top of that, the fish sandwich was extremely satisfying. Experiences like this are hard to come by in life. Don’t miss this opportunity.

If you go to Bermuda and do not get a fish sandwich with hot sauce, tarter sauce, and coleslaw on homemade raisin bread from Art Mel’s you might as well have not gone to Bermuda!!! This sandwich was delicious!!! Also get the fries with coleslaw... which are over the top. Honestly I am a healthy guy... the sandwich looks gigantic and overly filling but it actually is not... the fries with coleslaw on the other had... are the definition of gluttony (kinda worth it)!

Tiny little place in Hamilton that is worth seeking out. We walked here from the ferry, but I don’t recommend doing that. We took a taxi back! Amazing fried fish sandwich served on homemade raisin bread. I know what you’re thinking—raisin bread?? This raisin bread was fantastic! It really enhanced the flavor of this extremely large, fresh fish sandwich. Service was top notch and the staff was sincere and friendly. Can’t wait to go back!

Great local place to stop and get a great sandwich. 25 minute walk from Hamilton ferry. Suggest taking a taxi or moped.

We are foodies and there is no comparison to Art Mel’s Spicy Dicey. Fish Sandwich Regular It’s a out of way local place in Hamilton Bermuda. “Secret” up in back streets if Hamilton Bermuda. I true vibe of local. Hamilton people in their neighborhood. Can’t eat there but hang out on stoop or go to local park. Sandwich is unbelievable fresh homemade raisin bread thick fresh (yes raisin bread ). With coleslaw. It’s a must believe me !!!

Ordered white fish sandwich which was good. But the wahoo sandwich with rasin bread was too sweet and a cheese burger raw in the middle. Thank god I looked when I was eating it.

Hands down the best fish sandwich in Bermuda! We also tried another sandwich in town that people had suggested, but it was nothing compared to this. My friend & I shared 1 sandwich. We got it all dressed with LT + onions w/Hotsauce. I'm allergic to fish & I gobbled it up. It was so worth the aftermath! 🤣 11/10 recommend! It was delicious

Now, THAT'S A PROPER FISH SANDWICH!! Nothing fancy, a fresh made coleslaw, fresh baked raisin bread from a local bakery, fresh made tartar sauce, and of course, freshly cooked fillet of FRESH FISH! A true hidden gem in the wonderful island of Bermuda. Keep up the great work and continue serving your wonderful and tasty food!!

Went to Art Mel's for their famous fish sandwich and, even though I already knew it was supposed to be good, I was still blown away. Fresh fish(mounds of it) on fresh raisin bread with spicy sauce make this delicious. Now, this is a $14 sandwich...but worth it. Food in Bermuda is expensive so it's not as shocking as it seems. The sandwich is so big that it is HEAVY as you carry it out. This place is for the more adventurous. It's in a store front, basically in a neighborhood, on top of a mountain. You won't just wander by it. Very friendly service, awesome sandwich an a fun experience.

My husband and I spent time walking around Hamilton on our recent visit to Bermuda. We tend to go off the beaten path to find the best of what each city or town offers. In this case, it was this local place and it’s fried fish sandwich on cinnamon raisin bread. We met a lovely woman on our way in and my husband struck up a conversation with her. She introduced us to the other lovely women who create this wondrous thing behind the scenes. Hubby then realized he had no cash to pay for our sandwich, and lovely woman #1, whose name escapes me, paid for us to have an incredible experience. We could not thank her enough. She even refused to allow us to send her money. She was a good soul. But, I digress. We walked hurriedly to a nearby bus stop to get back to town, and found a park bench where we ate one of the most delicious sandwiches of our lives. The number of birds who suddenly surrounded us were apparently all too familiar with this sandwich. We at first didn’t want to share; however, the beauty of the park, the birds, and the incredibly kind “island way” made us want to share in the sheer delight of it all Go. Soon. PS: The home made raisin bread will knock your socks off. @guyfieri

Ate there after a day out at sea, sandwich was a giant but was so good I ate it all! Delicious fried fish with slaw, spicy sauce in soft brown doorstop sultana bread :) it was worth the 30min walk from Hamilton seafront

Incredible fish sandwich. So massive that two people who biked from Southampton and back with some cliff jumping in between were able to split one! The cinnamon raisin bread with the sauce and beautifully fried fish were perfect complements to each other. So glad we picked up a second sandwich to share another day. The staff was super friendly, as are most folks we meet in Bermuda! Warning regarding getting to Art Mel's: Coming from North to South, we encountered a number of extremely steep streets that would be almost impossible to navigate by pedal bike. Heed the Google directions and know that there is in fact a way to navigate to the best sandwich you can find in Bermuda!

The place is small and a little hard to find. But once you find it Oh my you will have hit the motherload when it comes to a fish sandwich. The is BIG enough for two adults to share it. I will say if they have the Wahoo get it but if not you will still not be disappointed by a very very long shot. The raisin bread does not seem typical for a fish sandwich but completes this one. The slaw and tartar sauce was just a perfect complement to very simple but we'll prepared fried fish. The only DOWNSIDE to this place is that you have to take it to go. No place to sit down inside or or out unless you want to sit on the curb or sidewalk. This sandwich is well worth the drive or walk to purchase this sandwich. I give this sandwich a 9 out of 10. I am just begin conservative it really should be a 10 out of 10 for this sandwich.

We love Bermuda and decided this trip we would eat a little more like the locals do and try several places for fish sandwiches. This was our first stop and we ordered to go and take it to Spanish point park for a little picnic. Wow!!! This may have raised the bar a little to high for others that we haven’t tried yet. We got it exactly how they like to make it- we paid an extra $1 and got the wahoo on raisin bread with spicy coleslaw. I can’t believe how much fish they crammed into a sandwich!! The taste was amazing with a little sweet raisin here and there that offset the perfectly battered and cooked fish and the spicy coleslaw was one of the best parts! Highly recommend going off the beaten path if you have a way around the island to grab one of these to go!

Go here for the DELICIOUS fish sandwich on raisin bread and succulent fried chicken.

  • 5/5 Joe D. 4 years ago on Google
Art Mels came highly recommended and obviously it has great reviews... but I wanted to add ours. First the raisin bread is a perfect compliment to the crispy and perfectly fried fresh fish piled high. The sandwich is nearly 6 inches tall. With sweet slaw and hot sauce to complete the spicy, sweet synergy of flavors. The melted cheddar cheese was a welcome texture and flavor. The tartar sauce on it was also in point. I'm sure your average couple could split one, but we didnt and I dont recommend doing so. Eat the whole darn thing and live a little! You are in Bermuda after all. Best fish sandwich in the world!

I had their regular sized fish dinner with fries. I loved the fish which was nicely seasoned. The portion size was generous enough to share with another person. If you like ketchup with your fries make sure you ask for it or you may not get any

Excellent Bermuda Fish Sandwich. It’s sizable. Excellent thick raisin bread. Classic Bermuda. Thanks, Art Mel’s.

Got their wahoo dinner. The portion was generous and if you dip the fish into the sauce it tasted good! However it wasn’t fantastic or extremely unique as a lot of reviews mentioned. The Mac and cheese wasn’t yummy but I heard from the local that they got the best fries. Would recommend trying their fish sandwich with fries!

Hole in the wall, out of the way restaurant with the best (really, the best) fried fish sandwich. Get it on raisin bread with coleslaw and go eat it at the nearby Robinson Bay Park for a perfect Bermuda lunch experience.

Went to get the “best fish sandwich” on the island…. It was not. No one greeted us as we entered. Shop was empty. One person in back finally came out and asked what we wanted after we greeted her with a good afternoon. We ordered the fish sandwich and fries. The drink fridge in front area was empty. After about 20 minute wait we received our sandwiches. Fish was fishy (not fresh), was not abundant like other reviews and pictures, fries were limp and not crispy. Overall not worth the wait!!!

If you are within 200 miles of this joint, you need to do yourself a favor and dock for an opportunity for the worlds greatest fish sandwhich. I don’t know who Art Mel is, and I’m not exactly sure what it means to be spicy AND dicy, but whatever this joint has going on, you need this in your life!! This experience was a memory I will forever remember.

This place makes the best fish sandwich I have ever had. Raisin bread with coleslaw and battered fish... who knew that was a winning combo. Warning...it’s huge. If you’re not starving you might want to split one.

Heard about the Fish sandwich from the bus driver when asked about best food on the island. Google maps stated its 27 min walk from Hamilton terminal but it's not as easy to navigate since there are a few hills. Hopped in a cab instead to get there, ($13 metered) Ordered the fish sandwich to go as there's no seating or space to eat inside. A couple locals were raving about the fried chicken but it was sold out and was in the process of making another batch. The sandwich can feed 2 people, ordered it traditional on raisin bread. Simply Delicious!!

Walked all the way from Hamilton ferry stop to get this fish sandwich... Worth every bite! Homemade cinnamon raisin bread with fresh fried fish, tartar and lemon. Can also add tomato, cheese, coleslaw... But it's big enough as is! No seating so we went back down to a nice park in the city center to enjoy our eats.

Heard the fish sandwich was good but didn’t even want to go in as the place looks horrible. Looks like a dump. Not appetizing for me. Improve the building, entrance, parking and also provide seating ...then I’ll give it a go.

  • 5/5 Thomas B. 3 years ago on Google
Great fish sandwiches, delicious and easily large enough to share. Too bad there’s no indoor or outdoor dining services

  • 4/5 M D. 3 years ago on Google
Order a fish sandwich and you'll see why everyone likes it. But you better be really hungry or splitting it. Large order of fries is HUGE, so split that too. But remember to remind them to give you hot sauce. Only reason I give them a four is there is no place to eat it fresh and hot. You must take it to go.

It was a big sandwich, sure. But it sure wasn't spicy? And no raisin bread? $20 with fries? They were super nice to bring the sandwich to my car but when I got to my hotel I was really disappointed. Certainly can't be the world's best when I got zero heat....maybe they forgot? Maybe there was too much coleslaw? Seems like nice people who didn't make the sandwich right this time? I certainly would go back if there was any hint of spice.

Went to Art Mel's for the fish sandwich as everyone said you gotta try Art Mel's, as it is supposed to be one of the best. I really enjoyed it. It was massive, enough for two people. Wish a big piece of fish mounted on raisin bread with a nice sauce, delectable.

Have the iconic Bermuda Fish Sandwitch. Friendly counter staff. Fantastic French fries. House brewed H*O*T sauce. Have chicken if the fish doesn't appeal. It is overshadowed by the fish sandwich, but even better. All take out. Sit off in the park along North Shore and enjoy your lunch!
