AMAZING TASTING FOOD! You have to try the Jewish or Pastrami Cheesesteak. Of course, you can never go wrong with a hot Corned Beef sandwich. The service is cool, could be better and one dude basically forces you to pick a side despite you declining. (What's wrong with declining a free side?) . They have servers that will bring your food to your table.. That's right, they have seating. And, it's just a whole vibe for a lunch date. I recommend!!!

First time here and we are hooked. Everything is made in house. The entire staff is top notch. We felt like we were part of the family. This place is extremely busy and once you eat here you will know why. The portions are huge and nothing is held back. You get your moneys worth and then some. Bring your appetite. The hardest part of going here is deciding what to get! Don't leave without getting dessert or take one home. You can taste the love in everything you get. Thank you for the delicious lunch. We can't wait to come back! 3/6/2022 - Thank goodness for the Essen Room! They never disappoint. The sandwiches here are delicious as the first time we ever came here. The place was packed today!! I finally ordered the smooth whitefish salad and I'm so mad that I waited so long to try it. It is delicious!! Can't wait to return.

The food is just delicious ,the best corn beef sandwich I've had in years. The pickle bag is a pure delight for a lover of pickles. My mouth is still salivating from the coconut cake and they have a wide array of baked goods all done on site. Service is a little off , particularly check out. Cleanliness is excellent. Love the place!!

This was the absolute worst place I ate in my life. The prices were out of this world. A chicken pot pie was 16.99. the service was awful, there was a gentleman in all black that I didn't know work there and asked me if we were eating here and I asked him why and he said because I was going to see you and then proceeded to get an attitude with me and said I was being rude to him which I wasn't. All the food you could tell was previously cooked and Frozen it was not fresh. The chicken pot pie was cold inside. . Marie callender's has them beat. The service was horrible the people didn't know who got what and they were rude. Then the guy at the register said we had to pay a 2.99 surcharge for using a credit card when the prices are already sky high. He asked me if there was any problems with the food I said no comment then I told him that the pot pie was cold he said oh that could have been fixed we could have heated it up. Well first of all it wasn't even fresh and we shouldn't have to ask them to heat it up that's on sanitary. I would never ever go here again they're cheap and money hungry and the food is absolutely disgusting.

I wanted to use the remaining balance on my gift card. The owner/manager (the guy with beard) said any overage that I put on my credit card would have an almost 3% surcharge (ridiculous -- is that even legal?) -- and that he "didn't have any choice, it was set up that way" (even more ridiculous). So I said obviously I'm not doing that -- & the total of my to-go order was literally less than a dollar OVER the amount I had left on my gift card -- but instead of being gracious, he went and removed like 4 pieces of fruit! So my total came out to where I have literally 43 cents left on my gift card. & mind you, the food is WAY OVERPRICED to begin with. So the owner saved about 85 cents by not giving me the overage to begin with. BUT -- he lost a customer (and potentially many more when I tell all my Pikesville friends this story), for life. Truly the definition of "Penny wise, Pound Foolish". Astonishingly cheap and ungracious -- not to mention, shortsighted.

I’m always looking for a good Jewish Deli. Visiting in Baltimore and found Essen Room on Google. What a find! Delicious food and great service. This will definitely be a weekly (or more) stop for as long as I’m in town. Don’t pig (non-kosher) out on the all you can eat pickle bar. You will want to save room for your meal.

ESSEN! ✡️ My Yiddish speaking Bubby Ida would always say. God how I miss her voice, her cooking, her beautiful soul. She would have LOVED @theessenroomdeli, located in the heart of Baltimore’s Jewish community of Pikesville, just minutes from her old house on Reisterstown Rd. We grew up on food like this! Hot pastrami sandwiches, Matzo Ball Soup, overstuffed potato knishes, latkes w/ apple sauce, sweet raisin noodle kugel… I can go on and on. This joint was packed when I payed a visit this past Friday, and for good reason. Fantastic old world deli style hospitality baby. The kind I can only wish for but hardly see anymore in Baltimore Maryland. IM CERTAINLY COMING BACK WITH MY TRIBE TO TRY MORE OF THE MENU, can’t wait! Did I mention they have self serve pickle bar? OY VEY!

Turkey Reuben was piled high. The turkey quality was off the charts, tasty and plentiful. The hot corned beef sandwich was just as good. The potato latka that came with the meal was done to perfection. The homemade soups served in a "swimming pool" was better than grandma's. And you can't forget about the unlimited pickle bar. If you live or are traveling through Baltimore this is a must.

I ran into a hick-up with one of the clerks taking orders, and I'm intentionally not going into details because I do not believe the interaction I had with that employee was commonplace for this business, and I'm willing to also say it *may* not have been common for that employee, as well. a Because of the wonderful reviews and my craving for a corned beef sandwich with lingering memmories of the best salted beef sandwich I had in London 6.5 years ago (!!), I elected to let the customers behind me get served until I could get assistance from another employee. The next person who worked on my order was friendly, explained the potential reason for the hick-up with the other and apologized. Wow! Off to a fabulous fresh start! Turns out, the gentleman who assisted me the second time was the owner Lou! He was friendly, knowledgeable, professional, patient, and had an extremely positive attitude. The food is amazing! I had the corned beef special with the perfectly cooked crispy wedged fries and flavorfull pickles from the pickle bar! Oh and the raisin kugel! Yummy. I also had some small rolled cookies that Lou said were homemade, and they were delicious. The atmosphere is what you would expect for a deli. It was clean, organized in its layout, and welcoming, with no frills. Highly recommend this business - it worked out well in the end!

Food has gone downhill since Covid. Pastrami was undercooked, corned beef was almost rubbery. Still nice portions, I hope they rectify. One of the last decent deli’s in Baltimore

Everybody knows by now that I love good food. What few people know is that I grew up on Jewish soul food. My mom was a cook at a Jewish catering company where she bought home some of the most delicious fare. So, here’s the skinny. If you want some real good deli and some wonderful motzah ball soup and great pastries (they sell cake by the SLAB), you want the Essen Room. Lots of folks chatting and eating. Great pickle bar too!

Essen Room has huge sandwiches with tons of meat. I recommend getting all the toppings on the sandwiches (lto) and mayo/mustard/etc otherwise they can be a bit dry. The kugel is DIVINE! Easily the best I've ever had. Haven't tried the cakes, but they look amazing, as do all the other pastries. You can't go wrong ordering from/eating here. Prices are cheap for the portions you're getting.

Wow! This place is legit! If you're a NYC transplant and you're missing that authentic deli taste (on par with Katz's!) Go here! I took a group of friends here for the first time and we all thoroughly enjoyed and stuffed ourselves. My husband and I are originally from Brooklyn and had this great deli across from our apartment (and an amazing pickle shop). Essen Room tastes just as good as that, if not better. I love the self service pickle bar too! The tomatoes are crunchy, not those soulless mushy things some places try to pass off as pickles lol. The whole pastrami reuben was a bargain when shared between two people, and we STILL had to bring the leftovers home! The balls are big (motzah balls y'all), like Death Star big! They're dense but fluffy! The soup itself tasted like my mother-in-law's soup and almost made my husband tear up lol. I haven't had a knish in years, and the potato knishes here do not disappoint! Super flavorful potatoes inside a flaky pastry, what's not to love?! The dessert pastry selection should not be slept on. If you need a cookie platter or desserts for a party, hit them up. The rugelach was flaky and stuffed well and fresh! I can't wait to go back and try more things!

This is an awesome delicatessen. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Great customer service! The best place to get corned beef, pastrami, turkey, shrimp salad. The desserts are delicious and pickle bar has tasty selections. The catering is excellent as well. The sandwich trays I recently ordered were perfect and came with sides, pickle tray, coke desserts, paper products. The guests loved the food!

Long long wait and it could be due to not enough staff. The food was okay.. I have had sandwiches from subways that I thought was better.. I wanted a better experience than subway. The server needed help and you could tell because he was overwhelmed and a bit annoyed when people asked for something. They could use extra help and perhaps they would do better. Oh and the food was okay.

We recently needed a catered order following a funeral for over a hundred people. We were originally planning to use a restaurant much closer to where we live near Columbia, but they couldn't accommodate the quick turn around. However, Richard at Essen Room was able to make it happen! Not only was Richard very pleasant and understanding of the urgency, but he made sure the order was delivered to us on time the next day! The food was very good and the portions were very large. I would highly recommend the Essen Room!!!

I get so homesick for NY sometimes...so many places near me just don't understand good food it seems. I was so overjoyed to find this place! Everything was exactly what I yearned for! The staff was busy, but they really hustled. The sandwiches huge, the soup simply perfect. And omg the cheesecake - there are no words, you just eat it

Super friendly staff and all the classic Jewish deli choices and combos. Not Kosher, ie: cheese on the meat sandwiches etc., but absolutely fantastic food none-the-less. Pastrami, corned beef, lox, etc. Turkey Pastrami... to die for! Matzo Balls the size of a softball (literally! no exaggeration) in some of the best chicken noodle soup I've ever had! We took our 95 year old Jewish, family patriarch there for Father's Day, and he was like a kid in a candy store. I haven't seen him eat like that in months. Keep up the great work!

Been here several times and this is hands down one of the best spots to get corn beef sandwiches, shrimp salad on a roll, turkey, pastrami, and corn beef sandwiches were great. The deserts are good and the pickle bar was always fresh and tasteful. I haven't been to another Jewish deli since I started going here.

Always good food here! The sandwiches are stacked, and you may not be able to eat it all in one sitting. I tried the chicken noodle soup for the first time today and was impressed! They have a lot of desserts, but unfortunately, I have not had an opportunity to try any of the baked goods just yet.

Amazing Jewish Deli. The sandwiches are bigger than a football. The pickles are abundant, varietal, and free. The service was perfectly friendly and efficient. I only had sit-down lunch but the deli counter and baked items looked amazing. Will be returning for sure.

Everything is fantastic here. Portions are huge, and quality is just as impressive. The pastrami is delightfully moist. Love the selection and the pickle bar! Space is a bit tight, but a great deli usually has minimal seating! The staff are super sweet and helpful.

I love this place. I rated 4 1/2 stars because the parking lot is a little tricky to navigate. I love that they have gluten-free bread! They are a bit pricy, but you get your monies worth.

Love going to Hudson Coastal! The food is always yummy and the service terrific (sorry, I forgot the name of our server). We met up with a friend we hadn't seen in a couple decades and prob chatted for nearly an hour before ordering. She stopped by periodically to see if we were ready (but never pushy), refreshed our drinks if needed, but was patient, nonetheless. Highly recommend their seafood (that's all I've gotten the few times I've eaten there) if you're looking for fresh and tasty in a casual, comfortable atmosphere.

Pros: Pickle bar is a nice touch, sandwiches are huge, bread is fresh. Cons: NYC pricing ($20 for a sandwich and side, $4 extra to substitute fries), food is decent but not great. The brisket was very tender and lean but not very flavorful. The corned beef was tasty and also fairly lean. Potato salad is mediocre, potato pancake was too thick, making it pasty in the center. The pickles were all good except the half sour, which just tasted like a mildly salted cucumber.

I'm so glad I tried this Jewish Deli. I grew in Baltimore eating at some of the premier deli's in Pikesville and Baltimore, Suburban House the original one not the one it became after the fire and Lombard Deli in Baltimore. This place needs to work on bringing great service with the great food to Baltimore. We had a corned beef sandwich (whole), a pastrami sandwich (whole), and spit pea soup. It was fantastic as were the pickles from the pickle bar, nice touch. Would recommend to every one......Thanks

I had a strong taste for a good corn beef sandwich. Well this sandwich hit the spot. Plus I bought a slice, big slice of coconut cake. So much love was made with this cake. I will visit again. Thank you for your awesome hospitality.
