I made it to visit just in time before them closing for renovations. Coming here was such an invaluable experience. I learned so much about important milestones in music and black history. I was in town for work but made a point to come visit and it was super worthwhile. Your admission cost includes a tour and although it’s only an hour, you learn so much. The guides and staff are all really knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. I highly encourage experiencing this. It’s a cool and unique experience. The tours are really well done. It was easily the highlight of my trip.

My bf and I have been waiting to come to the Motown Museum since he moved to Detroit in Jan 2021. Finally after a year and a half later, Motown Museum undergone some remodeling and we were able to go inside. It was $15 to go on and it was a 30 minute tour. Our tour guide was amazing. She gave us a lot of information and was enthusiastic during the whole tour. She gave us enough time to take pictures at different areas of the museum. We saw Berry Gordy’s actual apartment and saw Studio A which was a lot smaller than I thought it would be. I can’t believe that small room created such amazing music. A lot of priceless history and a must see if you are in the area.

Well, well, well! I don't even know where to begin! But what I could say is A TIME WAS HAD!!!! If you haven't been GO! I've been wanting to go for many, many years. And I finally hopped on a plane from Chicago to Detroit. And I have absolutely no regrets I'm glad I finally did. I plan on coming back many, many times again. I learned so much from Stevie Wonder on down to Boys to men. The music and vibe make you wanna cry happy tears that's how much you feel it. The staff are really warm and welcoming. You can take all the photos you want....as you can see I did! But they do ask that you do no video recording. It was amazing that this place look exactly as it does on the movies. If you go be sure to pick up something from they gift shop as well. Until we meet again Motown 😘.

Absolutely phenomenal! The amount of culture and history in this place was mind blowing. The guide did an excellent job telling us about all the history of Motown and my entire family enjoyed the experience. You are literally stepping back in time when you visit this museum. My husband was born and raised in Detroit and had never been here. He thanked me for wanting to go because he loved every second of it. If you’re locals or from out of town and want to learn and see some iconic history, I highly recommend going.

Lifelong goal fulfilled and surpassed! The museum took me back to when I was growing up, the state of the world, goals, dreams, and the music that formed me. ❤, loved, 😍 it. People were visiting from other countries and here I was a local who had never been. It's worth the time and money; the tour guides are worth a million. The only improvement that could be made would be secure parking, but maybe that will be added with the improvements that are planned. Well done! 🎶💞🎶❤ 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The history of this place is incredible! If you've never been here before, you MUST visit this place. There is so much history about the sound of Motown and all of the artists that was signed to the label. You get to see how recording was done back then and they inform you about how certain artists were signed and the process the record company used to choose which songs to release. We also got the chance to sing at the end of the tour. The price is very reasonable and you won't regret this wonderful tour.

The tour was awesome. We saw the famous Studio A where most of the iconic recordings took place. A lot of stuff in there are actual things from the 60s and 70s when Motown was at it's peak. The tour guides are very knowledgeable. It's very easy to find a parking spot. And they have plenty of photos of the label's legendary artists recording

Motown has had a profound influence upon modern music both domestically and internationally. Visiting where Barry Gordy, Jr started it all is a must visit for any music enthusiast. The Motown Museum has knowledgeable and helpful tour guides who give an excellent overview of the history of Motown. This is a definite worthwhile museum to visit.

What a great experience here, so much talent and legends in this studio. It was amazing to be in here and see all of this. They give you a full tour of the museum and explain everything to you. They also have a gift shop for you to purchase some stuff. Everything is original I was told by the staff, in the movie it look the same. They even have his original apartment furniture and baby crib with toys. It’s loaded with pictures and videos of everything, the video is about 15 mins long and full of facts. If you like music or even some music, this place is worth it. Come and check it out, I will return in the future.

I highly recommend visiting Motown Museum aka. Hitsville U.S.A. and seeing Motown music’s headquarters and recording studio. This house was purchased by Motown’s founder, Berry Gordy in 1959 and Gordy converted it into a recording studio and into the record label’s administrative offices. His doors were always open to artists. The tour takes about 1 hour to go through. You can park on the street which in my opinion seems a bit unsafe in this neighbourhood. You cannot take pictures inside the museum. My favourite part was the recording studio area.

I’m rating just on the feels I got arriving here. It was closed on Monday, July 3rd. I loved that Motown music was playing, the history/description, and the signs of the artists on the posts. Also loved seeing others’ reactions to arriving here. Someone told us the Barry Gordy’s old mansion was just minutes away, so we drove by! What took place here was Magnificent, Legendary music that will forever live in the hear and soul of America!!!

For me and my wife, this was high on our list of things to do in Detroit. We are both in our early 70s, and we grew up listening to the Motown Sound nearly from its earliest inception. To realize what Berry Gordy accomplished in the same residence that he and his family lived is nothing short of incredible. Anyone who grew up with Morown music would love this experience. There were all nationalities and ages there to soak up the stories behind the music. There were multiple houses purchased that they and each house served a different purpose. They knew what they were doing and implemented a plan that rose Motown to international fame!

Would highly recommend visiting the Motown Museum if you get the chance. There is so much history and music to absorb! A lot of the museum has been left how it was when it was a recording studio. We had a great tour guide, Tyra, who made the tour fun and informational. You can't freely walk around the museum, you need to be a part of a tour so it is recommended that you book a ticket in advance online if you can so they don't run out of spots. Make sure you give yourself extra time for parking, there is mostly street parking available.

Incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience. We were lucky enough to score the last four tickets on a Saturday. If you can, purchase your tickets ahead of time to ensure you secure a spot. The only way to experience the museum is through a guided tour so if you don’t have tickets, you’ll only be able to check out the gift shop. Our tour guide, Monet, was perfect. Friendly, knowledgeable, kind, and even able to crack a smile after a long day of saying the same thing over and over again. The sites and sounds alone are worth any wait you endure or any distance you travel!

I 100% recommend this place and to buy tickets in advance. It is $20 per adult for entry. They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so be sure to plan accordingly. The guided tour(lasts just over an hour) was awesome, and normally, we are not fans of guided tours. It was very informative and there are definitely one-of-a-kind items here that you won't see anywhere else. You can take all the photos your heart desires, but absolutely no videos. If you're able to, come see this museum!!!

The staff is so nice. I was born & raised in the area but this was my 1st time touring. It's quite impressive what Mr. Gordy accomplished dating back to the 60's. I learned about his parents, entrepreneurship, the artists, motown process, land acquisition & what music has/can do for the soul. I loved getting to dance a little & sing in studio A. So many people from different backgrounds worked to make the Motown sound a success. There are stairs but quite a few elevators. Love the sanitizing stations throughout. The tour is about 1 hour. Tickets are limited so purchase online early.

We did the Motown Museum tour today ( 4 Jan 24) and it was incredible. The tour guide was knowledgeable and courteous and the artifacts from such an important and iconic location are presented in a perfect manner. From the introductory video to the time you get to spend in the iconic recording studio, you can't help but feel like you're part of history. If you're a fan of Motown music, this is a must visit, top of the bucket list thing to do. I can't wait until the expansion is completed.

I took my parents for my moms birthday. We were concerned with the spike in covid cases if it was a good idea, but they really took it seriously. They took temps at the door, kept groups small, and had markers on the floor so you could distance from non-family members in your group. Our tour guide was amazing and was passionate about the museum. Highly recommend going if you haven't already.

The Motown museum is always a great time. There is much history in such a small space, but they really know how to make it come alive! I would highly recommend taking a tour if you have never been there before. It's a must see for any suburban tourist that wants to learn more about the Detroit city! The building has been maintained very well you can tell how much care has been put into that old brick house.

I didn't get to go in the museum, but just being there where major iconic influences of a life time got to make life changing music, was beyond amazing. Listening to stories my husband would tell me about growing up in Detroit, sitting outside the studio and hearing groups/singers making music, was perfect experience.

Step back in time to the sounds of Motown! Small museum but huge in history. Tour guide Anton was amazing! You can now take photos inside the museum! Allow approximately 1hr for the guided tour and another 20min in the gift shop. It's best to pay in advance online due to the alloted times and minimum guests allowed per time slot.

Did not get to go in (because of my own timing) but stopped to take pictures and loved hearing the music playing. I would say parking would probably be the only issue. They are next door to a funeral home and and the only parking I saw was on a busy street. Can't wait to get to actually visit.

If this review is helpful; please give a thumbs up. Thanks. I highly recommend this museum! We had a great time touring. We got to sing and dance (My girl) in the same studio that all the Motown greats sang and recorded in. We got to stand in the lobby and walk through the exact hallway leading to the recording studio as the Jackson 5, Smoky Robinson, Temptations, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Steve Wonder and many many more. Even seen the candy Steve Wonder used to get himself a milky way candy bar. This museum is small yet it packs a powerful punch of information and entertainment. I was humbled by this historic tour. I again if you’re ever near the Motor city this is one you will be glad you took. “Amit nobody here to see you Ottis! I’m the one making the records.” Hitsville, USA home to the immortal Motown Record. The museum is expanding and updating. Should be complete by 2025. I included a picture of what it will look like upon completion.

A gem in Detroit. My first time visiting. They share lots of great motown history. Very enthusiastic tour guide. You must purchase tickets in advance, and the only allow guided tours. Very reasonably priced. We spent about 1.5 hours including time in the gift shop and for outside pictures in nice weather. Could have done it in an hour if we cut out browsing time at the end.

This wasn't a planned stop on our trip, but so glad we did it! This small museum is filled with so much history from some of the greatest artists. There are plans to expand the museum in a couple of years, however, I'm so glad we got to experience this one. Our tour guide was fantastic, knowledgeable and fun! We learned about the birth of "Motown," and stood where so many well-renowned artists created some of their biggest hits. We lucked out with getting tickets upon our arrival, but I would recommend buying in advance, since the place was full.

$50 Million dollar renovation. Not nearly enough people of color working on the site. How is this possible? Mitown Museum- Detroit- almost nothing but caucasians working on the site? A travesty! Repaired buildings on the left, but ridge still sagging under new shingles. Shoddy workmanship.

This is a review from 2018. Jordan, the tour guide ROCKS! The museum is tiny but worth the drive and price of admission. Great tour!!! You've got to stop by when visiting Detroit. Staff is exceptional and our tour guide was THE BEST. I forgot her name but my tour was at 4pm on Wednesday, October 5, 2022. She told the BEST stories and fun facts and was fully engaged.

The family and I decided to come to Detroit for a NFL game and stayed for the holiday and weekend. Friday the 25th we decided to do some touring. The first place we went to was MOTOWN. Grabbed tickets for the 1:30 tour. We were so happy we did. Tour started with a wonderful video and moved onward to upstairs. The tour guide was beyond wonderful. She ensured to keep group entertained and was very knowledgeable. She even shared her beautiful voice with us! I wish I would’ve grabbed her name. The tour ended in the recording studio . What a hair raising experience. Just to know we were standing in the same room as so many legends had in the past was an unbelievable feeling. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience, the staff are all amazing. One thing I’d suggest is a little more time in upstairs museum to be able to view everything and read as well. The tour is very fast paced and doesn’t give you enough time to soak it all in. Photography is allowed.

👍👍 The Riverwalk was a great experience for our entire group. There’s free parking and the area is well-kept. We also noticed security/police presence and felt safe the entire time. The water is beautiful! We were able to get a great view of Canada and we saw several ducks up close and personal. It was...
