Symbol of the city hanoi. There is not too much in side you can see just walking away from the sidewalk. You can climb up and visit military museum if you like and if you have too much time. It's located in middle of the museums and tourist attractions spots.

The Flag Tower of Hanoi (Vietnamese: Cột cờ Hà Nội) is a tower in Hanoi, Vietnam, which is one of the symbols of the city and once a part of the Hanoi Citadel, a World Heritage Site. Its height is 33.4 m (41 m with the flag). The tower is considered to have been built in 1805 or 1812[1] during the Nguyen dynasty as an observation post to the Hanoi Citadel. Unlike many other structures in Hanoi, it was not destroyed during the French invasion (1896-1897), and was continuously used as a military post. It is now located in the Vietnam Military History Museum. Cột cờ is composed of three tiers and a pyramid-shaped tower with a spiral staircase leading to the top inside it. The first tier is 42.5 m wide and 3.1 m high; the second - 25 m wide and 3.7 m high and the third - 12.8 m wide and 5.1 m high. The second tier has four doors. The words "Nghênh Húc" (English: "To welcome dawn's sunlight") are inscribed on the eastern door; the words "Hồi Quang" ("To reflect light") - on the western door and "Hướng Minh" ("Directed to the sunlight") - on the southern door. The tower is lighted by 36 flower-shaped and 6 fan-shaped windows. The National Flag of Vietnam is on top of the tower.

The tower is part of the original citadel of Thang Long. It's worth visiting if you're inside the military museum. You can climb the stairs up to a certain area.

I don't know how to climb onto this tower as there was a stop banner at the gate. It's located within Vietnam Military History Museum, so there are a lot of military equipments around. You can also enjoy Highlands coffee next to the tower, though I don’t like it lol.

Cột cờ Hà Nội, also known as the Hanoi Flag Tower, is a tower-like structure built during the time of the Nguyen Dynasty (started in 1805, completed in 1812) alongside the construction of the city of Hanoi. The architectural design of the flag tower consists of three pedestal levels and a column, making it one of the iconic landmarks of the city.

You have a very good view from up there when the weather is good. Otherwise, a visit should be combined with the Military Museum, if you are interested in such things. Otherwise, you can also walk around, look at old military equipment and enjoy a coffee afterwards.

So many weapons were displayed around the tower. You can pass through the gate of highland coffee for free. Anyway, good place to photo the national flag.

I was not going to climb it but my curiosity got the best of me. Glad I did. Fantastic climb inside the tower. Only wish I could have gone higher. Great view of the museum next door. A must do if your in Hanoi. Liked to have seen it 100 years ago.

Visited in 2011. Interesting artefacts / military hardware / war remnants. Worth climbing the (19th century?) flag tower on a clear day for a decent view of Hanoi.

An interesting structure, with small arches and steep stairs. Three levels. No good view of the city, only of the vehicles in the war museum.

A place to feel the love of the country cum to express love for your special one? ... Located inside the Vietnam Military History Museum, the flag tower on the three-storey structure is one of the oldest structures in the country and as the name suggests, hoists a big flag of Vietnam. And the worst part. The purpose of this tower seems to have been misunderstood by the miscreants. It was a symbol of love for the country, a symbol of unity and patriotism in those times. However, some people having gone there thought to make it a symbol of love for their special ones, and have succeeded in doing so by stamping their respective names on the tower. So much that they didn't mind the base of the tower getting getting spoilt. Some others wanted to leave a proof that they have had a visit here, maybe they felt something like mission accomplished, have carved out their names too. Shameful to say the least. And disrespectful. The top of the three-story structure gives a view of the outside premises ( primarily of the Lenin Garden ) on one side, and of the museum on the other side. Some of the finishing has come off, and one can see the bricks inside. The same timings for the museum ( a separate review is available ) are applicable here as well, and the entry fee of VND 40,000 for the museum is inclusive of a visit to this tower.

Flag tower with historical museum are a nice place where to see war equipment that we would only see in films otherwise. I would advise if you happen to visit Hanoi. 4 srars cause I could climb to the top of the tower

Obverraited, entering from the museum. There is no option to go all the way to the top, therefore you don't get the view of 334m high.

Not a full scale museum but definitely a symbolic place. Its a bit warm outdoor and there's no air con throughout the whole place. Jets and weapons shown here are limited

Tickets for 40.000 VND, not much to see compared to Imperial Citadel of Thang Long which only cost 30.000 VND. You can even see the building from the Imperial Citadel so save your money!
