We arrived at Hanoi House around 5pm, and were told we couldn't check in to our room because the guest in our room was not able to check out due to illness, which is fair enough. They said they booked us into another hotel next door which was much nicer, seems like a good deal. We were escorted to the neighbouring property and warned on check in that there may be some noise from the street as there are some bars outside, we have been travelling for a few months so we are used to this, we said it's not a problem. Fast forward to 11pm, we get back to our room after dinner to go to sleep and the room is vibrating to the beat of house music, quick search on Google to see what's next door. ITS A NIGHTCLUB OPEN UNTIL 5AM, literally on the other side of the wall. The property was Diamond Nostalgia Hotel, and the club next door was called The Circle. Not only was the incredibly loud noise and vibration a nuisance, but the room itself was filthy and falling apart. We packed up and walked back to Hanoi House to complain, and they magically had a free room which we could of stayed in the whole time. This was night 1. On night 2 we were "upgraded" to the suite on the top level, the quality of the room was better, but it had a balcony with a glass door looking out over the street. And there was a live band on the street until midnight (some local festival) and we could not sleep until after midnight again.. overall, horrendous experience here.

I arrived around 4AM, and the doors are locked, and the staff is sleeping in the receptipn area so I just waited outside for an hour. I tried to check-in, but it seems that all the rooms are full. He answered all my questions in a irritable manner, he could've handled it better. Only that specific staff was rude in my entire stay, the rest of them are really friendly. I booked my stay via Agoda, and it was in a dorm room. There are 6 beds in the room, and we share one bathroom. Each bed gets your own locker, and it easily fit my medium luggage (with extra space to spare). In the bed, you have a torch light, outlets, some toiletries, and a smaller lockable storage (for things you dont want to put in the bigger locker)

Genuinely shocked at the number of positive reviews at this hotel. We booked a block of rooms for a wedding and had checked into 4 rooms before giving up and checking out early. Every room had its own diverse issues, including mold on the walls and ceilings, unsealed and leaking showers flooding the bathroom, hot water lasting only 5 mins, bathroom door for a 3 bed shared room not closing let alone locking, AC dripping water on the floor, various lights not working, exposed wires hanging everywhere including in the bathroom where there is moisture, mattresses of wildly varying quality (tolerable to extremely bad, basically a box spring), the list goes on….. staff refused to fix or address any of the issues, saying they would have things fixed at the end of the stay after we checked out, (eg. suggesting laying a towel down to catch the AC water for the duration of the stay rather than fixing the unit). Outside of the rooms, the building had random stained mattresses just in every stairwell for some reason? And curfew at midnight where the front door would be padlocked with no staff around to open after that time so you just simply can’t access the building. This wasn’t communicated to us at any point during check in so we were lucky to find out around 12:30am. All of this would be forgivable if the price reflected the quality of the rooms; I would pay $10-15 USD per night with no complaints for what we got but they charged us $50USD per night which is wildly overpriced for the area. We ended up moving our entire group to a new hotel for literally half the price and triple the value. The location is good at least. Very conveniently situated, assuming you don’t want to be out past midnight. Breakfast is ok, but lots of bugs buzzing around the fruit trays. You’re better off finding good local pho for $1-3 in the neighbourhood Overall would never recommend this hotel and highly discourage any stays.

Super hotel, we loved it! Delightful receptionists who are welcoming, friendly and helpful - a real breath of fresh air! Amazing location in the heart of the old quarter. Really comfortable (soft) bed. Room cleaned daily. Great breakfast with more than 10 hot options to choose from as well as fruit. The only minor inconvenience was that the shower had really poor drainage so the bathroom flooded every time we used it, but this was a small price to pay for an otherwise great hotel.

Nice, clean place to stay on a budget. Very centric. They will help you if you want to book any tours. I was very happy with my stay. As with most Vietnam, check several sites and compare prices for this hotel (they can vary from site to site).

I stayed in the room with balcony, very spacious room with very favorable price including the breakfast; besides, the location just right in the ancient streets and near the lake hoankiem. and the receptionists all offered us warm and welcoming service. Great impression on this hotel!

Friendly service from staff who were so happy to help with advice on where to go, how to get there, and they even arranged bus and ferry transport for us to get to Cat Ba Island. The room was clean and comfortable.....it's easy to forget that Hanoi House is a backpackers. I highly recommend this place.

Even though it’s labeled as a guest house, Hanoi guesthouse provides facilities and services beyond what we imagined. I didn't think what they advertised on their website really matched with the reality. If you considering that not all websites provide information base on reality, usually with a polish that sometimes disappoints they customers. It's best to make a reservation before because this guesthouse has a pretty good reputation among travelers. Their rooms are always fully occupied unless a customer cancels their reservation.

If you want to stay here, do it at your own risk.. and if you like night life, I'll suggest to find another place... The hostel closes at 12am or even earlier, man on night shift locks the door, with an umbrella for extra security lol, so we can't even try to open the door We had to call the manager... ironic that we are 2 minutes away from beer street. Mind you, we were stuck outside knocking and shouting at him like mad people for at least 15 minutes and damnnn... his attitude was so bad because he unwillingly wake up, angry and half asleep... No previous information were told that they lock their doors at night... all we want is to peacefully get to our room haha... If they want to lock the doors for security by all means... but at least WAKE UP or tell us, so we don't disturb those who are already fast asleep... If anything, they should be providing us a key to the main door or please hire a more responsible person.

Rooms are dated. Mold on walls and lamp shades. Half the lights didn’t work, and some of them were dangling from the wall. However the worst part was that they ripped me off on a tour I booked with them. I went to Ha Giang, and everyone else on my trip paid $40-$60 less than me, and they also booked a private room on their tour. Also be careful, they will show you rates in USD and then do the currency conversion and charge you in Dong, the rate they will give you is much lower than the market value.

We couldn’t have asked for a better location. Walking distance from great restaurants and beer street. Right in the center of Hanoi! We were given the top floor room which had great wifi (we work remotely) and a balcony for morning coffee. We added on breakfast which was fabulous every morning. Our only suggestion is to give guests a large bottle of water (not the small). Recommend for anyone looking for an affordable stay in the center on Hanoi.

We chose this based on a really, really good experience 9 years earlier. This time just good. Staff are helpful, the street is pretty and it is close to lots of action. A small stage and pa was set up nearby for the local theater and musicians. Next door is a cool old house and the view from balconies is interesting. Nearby highlights were Hidden gem cafe, new day restaurant and the tiny coffee shop next to the pharmacy at the corner.

The hotel has a very good location where you can conveniently access a lot of things in the old quarter. The staff are amazing! They were very accommodating and assisted us throughout our 1 week stay. The breakfast is good, although they have the same choices daily (you can choose a different set for different days tho). The only downside is the internet connection that sometimes is very slow at night. I had to work on the last 2 days of our stay and decided to buy an e-sim because the internet connection is not stable enough for a zoom call. Other than that, our stay was good. They have an affordable laundry service which we really needed on our 2nd week in Hanoi. Overall, it was still a good stay.

Lovely place, definitely worth the money. Staff are all super lovely, polite and helpful. Plus 3 minute walk to pub street and an absolutely fantastic restaurant across the street. Would stay again :)

This hotel was nice. However, we had a complication with our check in and couldn’t stay for one out of 2 nights we booked. We were apologized to and told to contact Agoda for a refund. After we contacted agoda, they said the property didn’t approve a refund. Now the property has ghosted me and I can’t get my money back.

The staff make this place, they’re so kind and accommodating. I was sick for our whole 5 night stay and they told us we could remain in our upgraded room which we were only meant to have for the first night, so I could get better. The minibar is fantastic, very reasonable prices. Room super spacious and modern. Bathroom really beautifully designed. Lift access to each floor. We spent a lot of time in the room due to me being unwell and really appreciated how comfortable and pleasant it was to stay in.

Stayed in the dorms. Good lockers to fit a backpack and carry on suitcase. Stayed one night and it was adequate as a place to lock your stuff but I found a live spider under my comforter so let’s just say I didn’t sleep well

It's a decent hostel and a great value for money. Rooms are okayish. Service experience for us was not upto the mark. Our room was apparently allotted to someone else despite intimating them well in advance on the late check in time. The location though is just fantastic and right in middle of bustling part of the city. So you have lots of options to eat, Shop, drink nearby.

Perfect hostel to start our travels in Vietnam. Great location, clean, big rooms with comfortable beds and huge bathroom. Staff were great organised the 1st week of our travels in the north. Cheap laundry in house. Couldn’t of asked for any more.

It’s an okay hostel, for 1 maybe 2 nights. But no more. There was a weird smell in the room, we turned on the airco and left it on, so the smell kind of went away. (There was no window). There was a lot of mold in the bathroom, at first glance it doesn’t look too bad. But the bathtub doesn’t connect to the walls and the shower leaks in that gap, trust me you don’t want to take a look in there… We thought it would be fine since we’re not in the room during the day. After the second night my fiancé felt very miserable and sick. Luckily we only booked two nights. (We’ve travelled South East Asia for 3 months, but we’ve never encountered a room like this). Location is fine, near pubstreet and some other nice restaurants.

Clean, and I liked the late check-in However they tried to over charge me a little with ridiculous explanation on currency exchange. In the morning I realized that they actually charged me the full price of my reservation although I had already paid a percentage through hostelworld

Pretty nice place, the rooms are very clean and comfortable. They can do your laundry, and the breakfast is good and included in the price, there is a menu and you can order vietnamese as well as western dishes, and there are fresh fruits as well. The communication in English was kept simple, be careful there are no misunderstandings when you're asking for something, be very clear.

The most pathetic hotel we have stayed in. 1) there is no telephone to call room service. 2) basin gets clogged. 3) room doesnt lock. 4) receptionist is incredibly racist for no reason. She refused to take xerox or photo of our passports for identity and insisted on keeping it calling it a hotel policy but when another customer checked in she took a photo of his passport infront of us.

Me and my boyfriend spent 2 nights in a Hanoi house and hostel and travel for 2 nights. Only positive was the location, and 2 staff members Mrs Lisa and Linda. Negatives: £30 a night for an budget hotel room in Vietnam. We are both skinny mid 20s and we could only just both fit on the double bed. The photos shown is the honeymoon suite so it's makes the hotel seem way nicer than it is. I had to borrow a spare key of the night manager who refused to get out his chair and help or unlock the door. He then banged the door at 6am waking us up because of his laziness the night before. House keeping then work us up again at 10am even though they had seen we hadn't been down to have breakfast. Had issue with the door not looking and the lift was glitching out which on the 5th floor was a big problem. Location, Mrs Lisa and Linda 5 stat service. The rest was 1 star. Only rated 2 star for the location and the 2 actually good staff members. Would not recommend, cheaper nicer places in the old quarter. One to avoid

Great little place. Free toiletries, water, tea and coffee, chips etc. In reception and in room. Great breakfast options. Helpful staff and a clean room with a fairly comfortable bed. And at a good price. What more could you want? Nothing more as far as I am concerned.

This little hotel is just awesome! Comfortable, great service, clean, and awesome location to the best part of the old city. I booked all my tours with them as well they arrange everything for you. One of the best spas in old Town is just up the street, Serene Spa... Best massage I've had in SEA. I have a front room with a balcony, nice and spacious and love the balcony to just sit and watch the goings on on the street. Also their breakfasts are wonderful! Enjoy

First the staff, I can't say enough good things about them. There was a mix up with our room on check in. They spent over an hour fixing it. They also went above and beyond to make sure we had appropriate transportation and directions. The room was clean and comfortable. It is located in the heart of the Old Quarter. It is within walking distance of almost everything you'll want to see in Hanoi.

The hostel is very good value for the price BUT be aware of the “extras” - they overcharge quite a bit so be cautious with ordering from the menu (which doesn’t disclose prices) and paying for tours and buses - I ordered a basic (but delicious) rice dish and it ended up being $13 which is *a lot* of money for a single dish in Hanoi (just to compare: I went to an upscale restaurant around the corner and ordered wine, a starter, and a main/entree and the total was $19). Additionally, I was charged $20 for a bus ticket to Cat Ba and, although, they were very prompt and accommodating, I later found out that I could have bought it myself for less that $10. I don’t even want to mention how I had to haggle on the currency exchange rate and ended up taking an inferior rate simply bc the bank was too far away and I felt strapped for time. I understand the concept of a service charge but this was all a bit too much and left a bad taste in my mouth. I’m not saying don’t book here, I just think it’s important to disclose these instances and hold establishments accountable since situations like these are common and can dampen the overall experience while visiting Vietnam for a lot of people (which is a beautiful and worthwhile country to visit). This hostel gets enough business and has enough integrity that they don’t need to fleece tourists of money every chance they can get. This was my very first stop in Vietnam and a learning experience for sure - I was much more on my toes whenever money was exchanged after this.

I would leave 10 stars if possible !! Duc, who worked at the hotel showed so much hospitality for my entire stay. He was very nice and informative and made me feel very welcomed!! My hostel was SO CLEAN, comforting, the beds were extremely comfortable the comforter was cozy. The bathroom was sparkling clean. I review a tooth brush, soap, shampoo o, gel, there was a hair dryer. The breakfast is delicious. This was such a nice and relaxing stay and right in the middle of all the phone. I will stay here again and again. The cleanest hostel/hotel I have stayed in.

We originally booked two nights here but ended up staying for five. The hostel is perfectly located amidst old quarter and easy to get to from the airport via Grab. The staff here are great, Daisy was excellent in helping us plan our trip and arranging tours. The mixed dorm is well finished with good storage and comfortable beds. The place is very clean and the breakfast is good! WiFi can be poor at times but otherwise no complaints, great place to base yourself whilst in Hanoi, just don’t expect a backpacking atmosphere.

Got in late after emailing over the 15 hour journey to let them know we would be late and they never let us know there was a problem with the room. Apparently someone staying in our room was ill and took the key to the doctor and didn't come back so they couldn't access the room and were full. This is understandable, but they also added on deposits bringing the room cost to 10 USD more than it should have been, and THEN after payment let us know that there was "an issue with the room" and we would not be staying in that building, but next door. So, in short they charged us the room rate for the nice hotel plus deposits that they said would not actually be returned, so an additional fee, and brought us two doors down to a windowless room that was definitely not in the same quality range.

Great place to stay. Includes breakfast buffet with fresh local fruit. It's in the middle of old town and the service is friendly. Rooms are well equipped and even get complimentary snacks in the room every day and some refreshments in the lobby area. I would reccomend this little hotel to everyone

I booked a trip to Sa Pa great trip except the sleeper bus on thev way was too narrow and too small for 6 foot person so I came off the bus with a bad back. They were friendly offered to book my another bus back to Ganoi They offered to book my train.... disaster again I asked for a seat next to the window. They booked a top bunk which was again was not the best transport for me. I suggest you walk to the station and book your own tickets.
