This museum gave me insight into the lives of Vietnamese women, their traditions and village life that I wouldn't have gotten anywhere else. There's a lot of very dense information and exhibits so thoroughly going through all four floors is really hard. There's an audio guide, free toilets before you enter and sporadically after you enter and an elevator that can assess all floors. I'd recommend the first exhibit floor (marriage and childbirth) and the second floor (women in work). The other floors are good too, but these were most eye opening and had unique insights. Also this museum isn't just for women, men can learn a lot too 😊

A really fantastic museum celebrating the more important half of humanity, in this case Vietnamese women, in terms of their roles during recent 20th century history, their role within extended family structures, as well as being a space to display traditional garments typically worn in rural areas until recently. The thoughtfully curated space over three or four floors is truly magnificent, and is arranged thematically. Historically traditional family structures one floor up, French and U.S imperialism on the second storey, with fashion occupying the third tier up. The displays are in Vietnamese, with flawless translations into two foreign languages, English and French. There is a lot of information to absorb, but an entrance ticket - purchasable on the ground floor, close to the main entrance - is inexpensive, so repeat visits are definitely worthwhile. For a small extra fee you may hire out an audio guide in Vietnamese and English. There are also lockers in the entrance lobby. A gift shop is located on the ground floor selling mainly traditional handicrafts. Reasonably priced of course. The entrance is not wheelchair accessible because of the broad flight of steps from the outer forecourt to the main entrance doors. However, if you can and are willing to risk negotiating this barrier, then there are lifts to the different floors. But overall the multiple flights of stairs are shallow and can be taken two at a time. I would suggest dedicating two and a half hours if you’re only intending to visit once, without the assistance of an audio guide.

One of the best museums I've seen lately! Definitely get the audio guide! I believe every country should have a Women Museum. If you want to really understand culture and history of a place, discover it through the historical and contemporary life of women. Highly recommended!!!

The museum is specialized in all about Vietnamese woman. I went there afternoon so the premise was pretty quiet. There are multi floors and each layer has a concept such as marriage, motherhood, wartime and fashion etc. It took 2hrs to look around all the stuff in the museum. Overall, it was great to learn many different aspects of Vietnamese women and background cultures. 40K for entrance, definitely worth it.

Great museum which you should not miss! Very interesting to learn more about the role of Vietnamese women in the present and past. A lot to see and a lot to read also. English translations are available everywhere so that’s fantastic. Do not miss!

It's a great exposition to the history of Vietnam. You also learn about the diversity of Vietnamese society and the many ethnic groups. The women's museum was a good entry to understand the history, family life, marriage, goddesses and so on. Pretty courageous to put women and their oppression in society in a museum. Many countries would hide this. Worth a visit.

This museum is extremely well done. It shows the history of women in Vietnam, including marriage practices, their role in the war(s), fashion, and home life. There is also an art exhibit on the top floor that I believe rotates. There are features throughout the museum highlighting Vietnam women who have achieved greatness. If you have time, this is a spot to see.

Incredibly interesting and eye opening museum, each section is dedicated to a subject and then within that section you can find the differences in the ethnic groups traditions. So much to read and you can easily spend 3 hours here if you want to see everything. The gift shop is good too

Such an educational and mind opening museum to attend for 80,000 VND per person. The museum is made up of several floors and has quite an extensive amount of artifacts, information, and very well informed and organized!

Such a novel experience to go to a museum that celebrates women. I really enjoyed it. Of course, it could have been more detailed, but I liked that it gave a fairly unbiased and neutral account of women’s lives. It wasn’t politicised or preachy. We enjoyed the documentary about street vendors and took home a copy of the DVD as a souvenir.

A must go on all fronts, I’ll spare the details and just encourage everyone to go immediately. Take the time to soak it all in, there is so much to see and experience that it weighs heavy on the heart and mind. An absolutely beautiful display in every sense of the word!

Really great museum. As a US citizen, I am grateful for the opportunity to learn about the many women that contributed to the war effort. I would recommend spending at least two hours here.

This is a must-do in Hanoi. Well thought out, highly educational, at a bargain for what you get. Three floors of women's history and influence on the country. Highly, highly recommend and get the audio tour as well (you'll need an entrance ticket and then an additional fee for the audio tour). Allot 2-3 hours.

Nice museum to avoid the cold outside! If you take the audio guide, you'll probably need more than 3 hours to listen to it all : I recommend choosing your subjects of interest and not trying to listen to absolutely everything. Save energy to spend time in the "women in war" section, which contains lots of stories

Really enjoyed this museum experience. My favorite areas were on the first floor - marriage, childbirth, and living life. The wartime floor was also enlightening with many women’s stories told through the audio guide. 40k entrance and 40k for the audioguide, which I found to be very useful to go in depth. Spent about 3 hours total.

I really had a great time exploring the museum! As someone who has a limited knowledge of Vietnam's history, I was able to get a glimpse of its story and culture through the lens of women of Vietnam. I really appreciate how they celebrate and give importance to women. Highly educational and a must-visit in Hanoi!

(Translated by Google) It turns out the Vietnam Women's Museum is a very good museum. Normally, I always refer to the Museum of Ethnology as one of the rare and interesting museums in Vietnam without the need for a thematic exhibition. But it turned out to be very wrong, BTPNVN is also extremely great. Women's Museum, obviously, talking about Women, is designed according to a woman's life story, starting with marriage, childbirth, childcare, daily life ... diverse ethnic groups and fighting history haha (I don't like this floor very much, even though I'm red and really like to use it). In the photo, there is a Chinese wedding dress. The problem is, when looking at this floor, I am amazed at the cultural diversity: matriarchal, paternal, there are wedding clothes blue, gray, red, even white, as red as the Chinese. and also the Vietnamese ao dai (Kinh) married in the 2000s. After watching, I like to be the Xing mun ethnic group. When I get married, the groom comes to stay for 8-9 years, it can be understood that when I come to report the love of my wife's family, when I get married the second time, I bring money to compensate for the cost of supporting her strawberry After that, I brought my wife and children to my husband's house Fair, reasonable vailon :) There is also a primitive pre-marital contract written by the village elder and the red sign of the Ede-hue people with a little law in their body but still a little bit of the pass, after fighting the mud, he signed the contract. Pre-marriage no, my civilization is truly civilized, not flattering huhu. There is a display about the Mother's worship. This booth is very good, enough from the mother altar, the maid uniforms, bustling music, there is a movie room but too late I can't go to see, a bit sorry 😥 (Original) Hóa ra Bảo tàng Phụ nữ Việt Nam lại là một bảo tàng rất hay.

A really nice museum ! The museum is divided into sections so you learn about the different aspects of Viet women's lives through history. Marriage, family, their role in the war, fashion... I'm sure I'm missing some others :) I really appreciated the audio tour. From the very beginning while talking about the gold statue at the entrance I felt drawn in and emotionally moved. The fashions on display are really beautiful and interesting. There are also quite a lot of videos you can sit down and watch. The one about street vendors really got to me. You should take the time to watch it and learn more about the women who inhabit and support this beautiful country :)

Not a must, but if you are in Hanoi for a while and have spare time it's a good place to visit. Interesting information about vietnamese women in history, although some parts of the exhibition are very depressing :( Vietnam has been (and still is) a sexist country, and sadly women don't have any power, sometimes they don't mean anything! They have to take care of everything, be available 24/7 for the family, they take care of the house, cook, clean, raise the children, AND work! While men just have to work, provide economically for the family. After living in Vietnam for a while I can firmly say that here men are much more respected than women. Sad to say, I am grateful I wasn't born in this close minded country. Freedom seems like a utopia.

Could be so much better particularly the poor hospitality. Everyone on their phones ignoring visitors. After nearly 3 years of seeing I don’t feel bad saying it’s tiresome! The whole place is dated with zero interactivity just lots of videos. The best part are the textiles shown here.

Traveled all over the world and finally have come to a museum about the importance of women! This museum is designed well and curated properly. The story telling is really good. I suggest getting the audio guide for a couple dollars more. It’s worth it. There is a lot to see and it really shows you the strength of women in general and specifically in Vietnam.

A very detailed history of the life and culture of the Vietnamese people which included their dating and marriage rituals; Life in different parts of the country; Occupations that women generally engage in and the role of women in the civil rights struggle of the 1970s. Also had a really large souvenir shop with beautiful postcards. (Everything else was available at any souvenir shop in Hanoi at a cheaper rate)

We spent 1.5-2 hours walking around the several floors and exhibits and enjoyed every moment of it. It was fascinating and added to the massive respect we already had for Vietnamese women. You don't have to spend much time in Vietnam before witnessing first hand how hard working and important they are to their families.

The museum is located in the city center, 15 minutes walking distance from the old quarter and near the Indian embassy. The Museum is dedicated to the struggles, life, marriage, love, and dedication of every Vietnamese woman for their nation, family, God, and themselves. It has four stories highlighting the different roles of women in Vietnam. The ticket price is approximately 40k vnd.

40k entry fee for those price conscious visitors. This place is generally quite an interesting visit. There’s a few floors with varying subjects on women in Vietnam and you’ll spend an hour reading the information. The building itself looks like it was built and then neglected. Lights off in many parts make it feel quite dull. The main atrium that the showcases wrap around has some nice lanterns that span 4 floors but the lights are all off. The fountain in front of the building is off. Not to mention the many open wires, inoperable AC units and damp walls. I’d suggest the people running this joint replace the lights with efficient LEDs so they don’t have to worry about the power bill so the place can feel like it’s open.

Museum was relatively small not much to see but for 40k. Museum souvenir shop got quite some fascinating items to consider, however. We went into the contemporary light exhibition right outside of the museum. It's located in a tiny tent, steamy hot and packed for 2 minute show. A coordinator will help out in case you have any questions. 5k for bikes to park.

The museum has multiple levels and covers everything from the role of women working, family roles, marriage traditions, women's health, beauty standards, and faith/religion. It was 40k per person. Our 8 year old got in free. There were lockers for our backpacks, which was great as we were headed to the airport right after. We didn't get the audio guide. I think to get more from your experience you would want to get audio guide.

Museum admission is 40K Dong and audio guide is an additional 40K, cash only. I do recommend getting the audio guide as it gives you additional context about the items in the exhibit, though there are English and French descriptions as well. The first and second floors highlight the lives of women in different ethnic groups and include topics like marriage, childbirth, and agricultural work. The upper floors are supposed to feature the history of revolutionary women during wartime and traditional women's clothing, but the stairways appeared to be roped off. There's a gift shop in the lobby that features handicrafts made from traditional fabrics and materials. A lot of the items didn't have prices displayed, but I think this would be a good place to souvenir shop and support the museum.

There is a souvenir shop on the ground floor, and there are also government propaganda posters, etc. If you pay the fee and go upstairs, you can see the culture and history of Vietnamese women's marriage, childbirth, funeral, etc. in an easy-to-understand manner. There are explanations in Vietnamese, English, etc., but there is no Japanese, but they appeal visually. The costumes of ethnic minorities and the exhibition of many Ao Dai are also interesting. Is it about 20 minutes in a hurry? Content that conveys the strength and kindness of Vietnamese women. I think it's a place you can visit and enjoy regardless of gender. There is also a cafe, which is great because you are tired. There are also delicious juice shops and cafes around here, so I recommend that as well. Really lovely museum tucked in a side square. Small cost for entry but so worth it. The museum follows all aspect of the women’s lives from birth, traditions, religion, work, and war time information etc. The information is in Vietnamese, french and English. I have huge respect for the Vietnamese women, they’re so awesome. The museum has fans but not so much air con. Walk at a slow pace. Benches available and your headsets. There are toilets as well. Small gift shop selling handmade goods.

Interesting museum. Provided really fascinating insights into life for everyday women in Vietnam. I found the sections on street vendors and ethnic minorities particularly interesting. More work could perhaps be done to structure/signpost the different elements of the museum but it is still worth having a look if you are interested in how Vietnamese families have lived throughout history. There's also great information concerning the role played by women in the revolutionary campaigns of North Vietnam.

Cost 30,000 per person. There are 3 floors to tour with English explanations, 0.5 - 2 hours long. Two hours is for really getting in to every detail and thinking about it. I would say it is worth stopping by to see and feel the enormous power of Vietnamese woman, who have an active role in the modern history of the country.

If you want to know how Vietnamese women play a role in Vietnamese culture go to this place. I used to think Vietnamese culture is mostly monolithic but this museum taught me how traditions like weddings and marriages vary from tribe to tribe. One surprising fact is, some tribes are matriarchal where children get mothers last name and after wedding the groom leaves to live with his wife’s family. There touching love stories during the war that will move you.

  • 5/5 Julia “Ozmanda” U. 1 year ago on Google
The women's museum was a wonderful cultural experience, we learned a lot about the traditions of various tribes and women through history while learning a lot about Vietnam itself. The audio guide is worth the extra cost, as it has lots of additional information and stories that are very interesting to hear. In total we paid 80K per person - amazing value for money. We spent about 2 hours in the mueseum on a rainy day, would definitely recommend going here.

We had a day in Hanoi before our flight and spent it walking around the old quarter and going to the museum. The museum itself was great! There is a lot of interesting information and taking the audio guide is highly recommend. There is air-conditioning and fans in the museum but it is still a little hot, and there aren't many benches to sit on so most of the time you need to stand and walk around. Tickets are 40,000 per person Audio guide is an additional 40,000. We spent there a couple of hours and didn't have time to listen to the whole audio and see everything.

  • 5/5 Eric K. 1 year ago on Google
Visited impulsively as we were walking past it and had some time to burn before checking into hotel. Super interesting and well worth a visit, very informative and covers a wide arrange of information: history of various regions within Vietnam, agriculture & market economies, military history and fashion - all through the perspective of women in Vietnam. Cheap tickets and well maintained, lots of English descriptions on signs and subtitles on video footage.

It is quite interesting to see a museum that dedicates specially for women. It covers social, religious, cultural, and even political aspects about how important women are and their contributions. Quite a big part of it talks about the minorities instead of the Kinh. The price of entrance ticket is affordable. But it is quite warm inside. I did not see any of the air-conditioner was switched on.

  • 5/5 Alix 1 year ago on Google
Worth the entrance fee 😊 we spent about an hour here. No need to buy tickets in advance as it was almost empty. Bit dusty and cold but was nice to see the displays and learn about the history and culture of Vietnam and women's role in society here.

Great source of information on the Culture, War History and Tradition of Vietnamese Women. Compact museum that you can either breeze through or spent hours absorbing the many informative exhibits, videos and photographs of women and their stories. 1st floor covers marriage and birthing customs of a select few ethnic communities. 2nd floor focuses on family life and Mother Goddess. Third floor offers sobering stories of women and their participation in the war effort. The final floor features the clothing and jewelry of a few ethnic communities - with tantalizing glimpse of differing ideas of "beauty". The audio guide enhances the experience. It offers more than the written information on the exhibits.

Sights @ Vietnamese Women's Museum. . The Vietnamese Women's Museum highlights and celebrates the many contributions of Vietnamese women, not just those of renown, but the love, sacrifice, and quiet everyday deeds as well. . There are 3 main galleries - Women in Family, Women in History, and Women's Fashion. The History gallery was informative, showcasing the stories and actions taken by Women in shaping Modern Vietnam. . The Fashion gallery has the most interesting exhibits, with traditional costumes and insights into their making. . Audio guides are a must for the optimal experience, as the displays are largely static. The place is also a little dusty, so a mask is recommended.

We checked this museum out during a recent trip and local public holiday, so it was a bit busy. It was still enjoyable and very interesting. I always enjoy the different perspectives each country provides to their history and story of how they got to today. The story they share about women and their influence, contributions and leadership throughout Vietnam was fascinating. There are a few floors to explore with a variety of displays, cultural background and history they highlight. I think the most interesting to learn about were the contributions women have made in Vietnam's politics and fight for independence. Definitely worth a visit.

Absolutely brilliant museum recognising the role of women in Vietnams history over time. Covers cultural and historical factors from marriage and birth customs to their roles and experiences in war as soldiers and spies. Additionally the photo exhibit showcasing the contemporary context and experiences of women in Hanoi was fascinating

While the focus is on women's contribution to Vietnamese society historically, this museum provides a rich insight into the diversity of culture and traditions in Vietnam, the human struggle for survival and freedom through successive wars, and the resilience of a great nation to rise above strife. This is done through the perspective of the great women who were essential to and at the core of the development of the nation.
