The atmosphere is good, but it is too expensive. If you only enjoy the atmosphere, the hotel restaurant is much better. Food is not local food, and it seems to have been transformed into fusion. It is tasteless than any Vietnamese dish I've eaten in Australia. Also, the worker is not friendly and they explained menu arrogantly. I do not want to go again. The next day my nephew and I also had diarrhea.

We had the most fantastic night with our cooking class! Chris is an inspiration and I can say after tonight, a friend. We chose the Street Food class and ended up having a private lesson! We visited the markets with Chris and got an amazing taste and experience then back to cooking a full delicious meal. So worth it!!!! Sign up now you won’t regret it.

This is a review on the cooking class. While both Chef Hung and Chef Chris were great, the class was poorly organized. In a nutshell, the restaurant isn’t really equipped to run a cooking class. No handwashing station, not enough chopping boards, and definitely not prepared to cater to different dietary preferences. Our class, for some reason, was overbooked and had 15 people, so we ran out of space, chopping boards and aprons. They split the group into two and we did all the cooking and chopping on regular dining tables (makeshift station they set up). They offered a vegetarian menu but class was heavily focused on meat dishes and cooking - chopping and grilling meat for pho. That said, the market tour was great and both chefs were very good people and it was very hands-on. All the cooking and prepping were done by ourselves with little handholding which I liked. They also don’t have any spatulas so you better be a chopstick master! All in all, had this been a private class or cooking for a potluck dinner, it would’ve been a great experience. There are other restaurants who charge the same amount for a private class so Blue Butterfly isn’t cheap at all; still paid full price for the makeshift experience.

BEST COOKING CLASS IN HANOI. Have you ever wondered what that secret ingredient in beef Pho noodles is? Or thought to yourself, how did they pack all of that into one spring roll? Or maybe you're looking for a new salad for home to surprise guests? If you answered yes to one or all three, then read on, this cooking extravaganza is waiting for you. Nestled in the heart of Hanoi province sits a beautiful restaurant, called the Blue Butterfly, here a young man by the name of Chris holds the best cooking class I've ever experienced. Not only do you get amazing food dishes, culinary secrets, and beverages, you walk the market streets of Hanoi with him and he takes you to the spots where the locals shop, barter and buy the essential items needed to create their meals. From market to kitchen to plate: Taking this newly purchashed produce, you dive back into the kitchen with Chris, where he professionally gives all his knowledge, expertise, and support that begins your egg-flipping egg-perience. Dish after dish you will whip up things that you never knew you could, learning, eating and laughing your afternoon away. Once its all over, you then sit down to enjoy all your hardwork, over a couple cold ones. This is a 10/10 cooking experience that has so many highlights I can't right em all, trust you'll enjoy every second. Tips: Bring walking shoes, bottle of water and allow a good afternoon of time so you can get fully immersed. Thank me later.

I recently had the pleasure of taking a cooking course in Hanoi, and let me tell you, it was absolutely incredible! The chef, Hung, or as everyone affectionately calls him, Chef Pickles, was seriously one of a kind. From the moment the class started, you could just feel Chef Pickles's passion for cooking. His knowledge and expertise in Vietnamese cuisine were seriously impressive, and he shared it all with such excitement and enthusiasm that it made the whole experience so enjoyable and engaging. Throughout the well-structured and informative cooking course, Chef Pickles guided us through each and every step of the cooking process. His instructions were super clear, and he even gave us some awesome tips along the way. We got to learn how to prepare some classic Vietnamese dishes like Bun Cha, Pho, Banana Leaf Salad, and Spring Rolls. It was such a cool way to dive deeper into the local ingredients and flavors. The cooking course also included a trip to a traditional market in Hanoi! Chef Pickles took us on a guided tour, showing us all the different local ingredients and telling us about their importance in Vietnamese cuisine. Let me tell you, that market was something else. The colors, the energy, and all the amazing food items... it was like a whole new world. It really helped us understand and appreciate the culinary culture in Hanoi even more. Chef Pickles, thank you so much for an absolutely amazing cooking course! Seriously, it was such an incredible experience that we'll never forget.

May 21st, 2023 Ordered two Tiger beers, appetizer, Morning glory, two mains and a third mixed fried rice. Got beer and appetizer, flagged down waitress after 40 minutes for second beer(small bottle tiger).1 hour later one main showed up with apologies from staff for delay who said other dishes would be right out. 1 hour 15 still nothing but many dishes going upstairs to patrons that had arrived after us.. we paid for what we had and left!! A lot of other great restaurants in the area you don’t need to deal with this.

We really enjoyed the cooking experience. Lead by Chef "Pickle", we started with a cyclo tour through Old Town's markets picking out the ingredients for lunch. Along the way, we got to sample various fruits and got tips on picking out the best ingredients. We then returned to the restaurant and spent the next few cooking up a storm. You spend more time listening and watching then chopping but that wasn't something that bothered us. Again, Chef Pickle was constantly offering tips and guiding us through the process. When it was finally done, we sat in the restaurant to enjoy our work. Overall a fun experience and highly recommended!

We did the Vietnamese Street Food Cooking Class at Blue Butterfly Restaurant. It was fantastic! Our chef/teacher, Hing Pickle, was very friendly funny and extremely knowledgeable. It was great for us to do this cooking class at the beginning of our time in Vietnam as we have a much better understanding of some Vietnamese dishes and ingredients now! After about 1 hour in the kitchen preparing Beef Pho, we went to Dong Xuan Market by tuc tuc - there is a huge variety of food there!!! Hing Pickle gave us in-depth explanations of the various foods and what they are used for. He also encouraged us to try some of the foods that are in season at the moment. We returned to the kitchen and prepared Hanoi spring rolls (delicious), banana flower salad with chicken (delicious) and bùn chã (also delicious). We were absolutely full to the brim after eating our 4 dishes!!!! We highly recommend this cooking class!! Excellent experience!

Fabulous food, we had the pumpkin soup, grilled fish and black sticky rice pudding. All the dishes were superb. The staff are very efficient, in particular our waitress,Pepper, was very good. My wife has a peanut allergy and Pepper ensured everything was nut free - the chef adapted one dish especially to accommodate us. I would definitely recommend eating at BB, we did twice.

Me and my partner had the best time at this cooking class! Chris was an amazing chef & teacher. We really enjoyed the trip to the local market to learn about the foods we would be using and to taste some fresh fruits. The class was fantastic, as was the food. We could definitely recommend if you’re in the area!

This experience was a highlight of our time in Vietnam. The class was run by Chef Hung for our family group of 9 people and we all loved it. We started with a cyclo tour to the food market where Chef Hung introduced us to many different foods and he organised tastings along the way. Back to Blue Butterfly Restaurant where Chef had all family members involved in the preparation of the food. It was fun and informative. We all enjoyed the banquet at the end to eat the food we had prepared. The spring rolls were the best we have ever tasted!! Everything was delicious, pho, bun cha, banana flower salad and fresh noodles. This is a fantastic activity on Hanoi.

I had the privilege of taking a private cooking class with Chef Hung and it was an amazing experience for me. My love of Vietnamese cuisine was only enhanced by learning the recipes and techniques from Chef. His personality was fun and relatable. Taking aTuk Tuk to the open air market to see everything from produce, dry goods, meats, fish and cooking equipment was the bonus. Everyone at Blue Butterfly was friendly and accomodating. And the 4 dishes that we prepared were the best meals of my time in Hanoi. Check it out.

This is a wonderful resturant that really works hard for their customers! Our server River was amazing! The food is so yummy and the staff is wonderful! They are so knowledgeable about their food and show great care in their preparation! They also modify their recipes in case you have an allergy or specific food you cant eat.

More expensive than the local street restaurants, but you can sit inside and enjoy the food in silence. Service is good and fast, the food is just perfect.

By chance near the cultural centre, Google search showed me this place as one of the great restaurant. It also has cooking classes here. As with all restaurant holding with cooking classes you cannot go wrong. Thoroughly enjoyed my meals here. The Bun cha with bbq pork was too sweet you liking but that is how they cooked it. Good service with the waitress, Tea( not fir drinking,eh). Nice craft beer too. Liked the blonde craft beer betttjam the snowhite though. So, there is nothing like adventuring! Overall, would recommend this place. Pictue of the rice pancake is missing and i thpught had taken a picture of it? Too much craft ale? One of the finest restaurant in Hanoi

Our family (2adults and 2 teenagers) went here for the cooking class which was amazing. We started off in the restaurant and were then taken for a tour of the local food market which was an amazing assault of your senses. It was then back to the restaurant to cook up several courses for you to eat. Hung was a cheery and pleasant chef and made the whole experience very enjoyable and also adapted the food as we needed gluten free. I would highly recommend this an an experience to try in Hanoi

It was very interesting and Chris shows a real happy passion for teaching about Vietnamese food. I can highly recommend this cooking class.

A well-priced, taste bud experience from the first Hanoi Beer & Vietnamese Rice Pancakes to the Phở Bò Hà Nội, Baileys Coffee Mousse with Ice Cream & Egg Coffee - not to mention the sneaky complimentary drink & bite-size surprise. Complimented by great service practically at arms length away; knowledgeable waitresses explaining how you should go about your meal the right way...in English. Add an atmospheric 2-level, environment filled with electric lantern lights, dark wood, some bricked walls, some green leaves and authentic music to match and you've got an experience to remember.

This is my first time in Vietnam but my wife and I love Vietnamese food. So we found Chef Max and his cooking class. It was a 5 hour culinary experience that is just remarkable. Chef max walked us through how to make an amazing broth for Pho. Then we went to the market and shopped for local fresh ingredients. We came back to the restaurant and prepared all the ingredients, rolled up our spring rolls and had a delicious, well deserved meal at the end. Highly recommend this as a day activity in Hanoi, you will not regret it! Thank you 🙏

After almost 1 month traveling around Vietnam, this is one of the restaurants we liked the most. It's gorgeous, from the decoration to the food to the friendly and charming staff. They even prepared a delicious ginger tea for me because they noticed I was a little bit cold

One of the bigger restaurants in the Hanoi old quarter. Also happened to offer cooking classes. Nice decor and has more space upstairs for dining in. The pho and bun cha were good with nice presentation. Upstairs bar makes cocktails, serves local beers, and even the snake liquor (snake in the jar). Friendly staffs and speaks great English. They smoke their own meat upfront.

We had a brilliant time being taught how to cook Vietnamese popular dishes by Dung (Chris). He was so friendly, passionate and inspirational. We have done many cooking classes in the past and this was our favourite ever one! The market tour was interesting and we we was learnt so much. Usually market tours are just pointing at new stuff for tourists but Dung went in to great detail and interesting facts and history about all sorts. We left the experience with our bellies full and our minds opened. Thank you so much for such a brilliant time! If you are reading this and have not yet booked - you simply must!

Had an amazing time at a Blue Butterfly cooking class! Our chef and guide Chris was incredibly informative, energetic and communicated very well. He walked us through the markets to help pick fresh ingredients, explained the food and culture of Hanoi, and then guided us through preparing a delicious three-course lunch. The food was amazing, some of the best we had in Vietnam. Wonderful experience all around!

Amazing place, with delicious food, authentic design and great atmosphere. The waitresses speak English, and the menu is easy to understand (the menu is in English, plus pictures are there in case you're confused) Great place, highly recommend it.

After days of street food meals, I wanted to treat myself to a sit down Vietnamese restaurant and Blue Butterfly was perfect. I tried the banana flower salad (similar to the papaya and mango salads you find in the country), fresh spring rolls, and a fried tofu dish paired with a passion fruit juice and all were excellent and delicious. I think what also makes this spot stand out is in the friendliness of the staff - they were so sweet and helpful (I was on the verge of over ordering but the waiter stepped in to save the day - the portions are quite generous.) It was Halloween when I ate in and one of the waitresses "trick or treated" me and honestly that was such a funny and fun highlight of my night - loved the playful atmosphere. Would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Hanoi.

For half chicken teriyaki and half 4 cheeses, is such a very good smell from the charcoal stove. It's very harmonized tasted in one full...
