We stumbled on Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi while exploring the city and were curious to see what it was like inside. The hotel is one of the most famous and prestigious in Hanoi and it has a rich history. As we walked into the hotel, it felt like we were transported back to another era. The hotel has a classic French colonial style, with white walls, green shutters and red tiled roof. The lobby was spacious and elegant with marble floors, chandeliers and antique furniture. Even through we were not hotel guests, the staff were very polite and welcoming. We continued to wander around the hotel to see what it had to offer and were amazed by the variety and quality of the facilities and services. The hotel has a beautiful garden, an outdoor pool, a spa and fitness center and a boutique. One of the highlights of the hotel has to be its gastronomy. The hotel has several restaurants and bars, each with its own theme and cuisine. We had a great time wandering through Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi. The hotel is more than just a place to stay, it is a destination itself, one that we may one day stay at as hotel guests ourselves. It combines the charm and elegance of the past with the comfort and convenience of the present. It is a perfect example of Hanoi's culture, history, and luxury.

I can honestly say this was one of the best experiences in a hotel I have ever had. And I've had a lot. The level of customer service/approachability of the team was magnificent. I would say one of the best I've experienced. The room was clean, good size, quiet (mostly). The housekeeping staff were great also. Location right in the heart of town yet far enough to not be positioned right in the chaotic hustle and bustle of Hanoi. If I could have one criticism, I would say the breakfast wasn't as comprehensive as it could have been. However, it wasn't terrible (still 4/5) If I visit Hanoi again, I will stay here!

Excellent. I would definitely get a room with club lounge access. You get to have breakfast there or on your room. It's the same as the main breakfast place but more attentive, and you get to have the real ca phe with condensed . Breakfast in the room is mostly for novelty value. Very good room, we availed ourselves of the bubble bath butler several times. Also there is a free tour of the bomb shelter.

This hotel is an oasis in the chaos. Had lovely stay in Hanoi at the Metropole. It was our escape from the busy and dirty (air pollution) streets of the city. The breakfast was fantastic. The rooms were very elegant but quite tight. We stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms and the closet door would not even open all the way because it hit into the bed. Our kids stayed across the hall in a twin room which was also tight and had a view of the roof. So pay attention to which category of room you book. We ate in Spice and Angelina restaurants for dinner and both were good. This is an expensive hotel but feels very exclusive and safe. We loved our stay here. The only thing it is missing is a hot tub by the pool, because it was not very hot in Dec and the pool was not heated enough for us. Overall it is a top notch hotel.

This is one of my favorite hotel in the world. Everything about this location has its old school charm mixed with new world. The staff here is incredibly kind, knowledgeable and friendly. The rooms we got a great deal by going with an agency for a better price then Agoda, etc. Food is on point, you won’t be disappointed! The customer service level here goes just as far if not further than European countries and the USA. If you are not staying here, at lease come look at the history of this hotel and check out the restaurant and bar. Last but not least, this location is CENTRAL and close to everything.

We had our mandatory quarantine here for 8 days. Service and food were outstanding! Never felt better taken care of in other 5 star hotels. Although our rooms have seen better days, they were clean, comfortable and still luxurious. Water pressure is EXCELLENT! Looking forward to non-quarantine stays at this hotel. Highly recommended for both pleasure and quarantine.

This hotel truly raises the bar for customer service. The personnel was simply superb. It's a short walk to the Old Quarter, where there are many places to eat, see, and do, which is at a very accessible location. The lodgings were tidy, peaceful, and welcoming. It was great at the breakfast buffet. A more enjoyable experience is difficult to envision.

Had the pleasure to stay here one week of quarantine. Located in the heritage wing, room is simple, cozy and quiet. Enjoyed both street view as well as the quietness of courtyard. Food is good and service is fine. Definitely recommend this place.

Old world feel, and absolutely amazing hotel. You can feel the French influence here but also the Vietnamese. Simply beautiful grounds with a nice pool and restaurant. Had some great food, the Pho was delicious. I was here one business trip but would also make for a very nice getaway destination. Staff was helpful and friendly. If I come back to Hanoi, I would stay here again.

Room is a bit small but the rest is perfect. I love dining at the swimming pool. The bar is also in very good condition. Walking distance to many attraction in hanoi. The best hotel in Hanoi in my opinion.

Probably the best service and hotel environment I have ever seen comparing hotels in this range. Interior was beautifully decorated and rooms well stocked. Wonderful experience. Massage was great and massagist really attentive. Especially loved the traditional breakfast offering and an afternoon macaroon left by housekeeping in the room. Could be helpful to include prices of the Spa in the room catalogue. Also a bit disappointing that the concierge didn’t have a list of recommended partner boutique beauty salons as I requested some advice.. surprising for a 5 star hotel.

What could have been a 2* review has turned into a 5* review. What is normally one of the best hot chocolate beverages in Hanoi (see picture) and something I would recommend any guest try was, on the occasion of our most recent visit, sub par. We found out this was because the hot chocolate machine was broken and this was not pointed out to us when we ordered. We made a polite complaint. The hotel acknowledged the error and went above and beyond in making it right. Thank you, Mr Bach. 5* service. Well done.

Stayed 2 nights and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The location is perfect for visiting the old town and the lake. We Used the gym, the Sauna as well as SPA for beauty treatments, enjoyed a lunch and a drink poolside. The staff is incredibly attentive and they will help you to ensure your stay will be memorable. Definitely recommend

Very poor soundproofing in some of the rooms and slow customer service. Short night where the reason of stay was a business trip. Would stay somewhere else next time as sleep is most important. Never expected to consider earplugs in a 5 star hotel

What a wonderful Heritage Hotel in the centre of Hanoi. So glad to have been able to return to this gem of a place. All perfect: room, club lounge, staff and restaurants. Highly recommandable.

Everything about our stay was perfect: the personalized service, the lovely recognition of a special occasion (a birthday), the delicious food, the location, the beauty of the hotel itself, the beautifully gowned hostesses in the lobby, the graciousness of all the employees. It was delightful from end to end! I hated to leave.

Along with melia it's one of the best hotels in Hanoi. Good location for the city, bar and food are better than most of the places outside the hotel. Vintage-era type interior, seems cleaner and more comfortable than most of the places in the city.

Very relaxing atmosphere and great service. We sat in front of table and I ordered egg coffee. Their egg coffee comes with a small light which warms the cup before you drink. But I think the air conditioner kept cooling my cup and my egg coffee ended up not really good taste 🤣 so for this, I give 4 stars for service. My accompanies ordered other drinks and they look happy 😊

Best hotel in Hanoi. You pay big premium, but this hotel is unique by it's legacy from Indochina. All amenities are here, and more. Ideal to celebrate special event with you significant other

Loved the old style beauty of this hotel. A visit to the old section of the hotel and the underground bunker and history tour was very fascinating and interesting. Hotel within walking distance of a number of attractions in the area. Staff were excellent. Loved the food in the restaurant and sumptuous. Room was beautiful with nice firm bed. Will definitely go back again.

All the staff of the Hotel were rendering very good service and made sure that your stay in the hotel is unforgettable. The gesture of just giving sweets at night and asking the guests if we would be needing anything before the night ends was extra special. The ladies assisting us with our needs and going the extra mile to show us the way truly proves that your Hotel is first class and 5 star indeed.

Like others mentioned, this historic hotel has good location. Breakfast is amazing but paying over $600 a night for 3 persons for club level room is not worth it. Service was not consistent and while staff was polite, they did not seem to be warm or sincere. We had a minor issue which needed to be clarified. It was addressed early in the morning but we didn’t get the answer until late afternoon after 3 stops at the front desk since “the manager is not here”. Pillows, comforter and sheets are high end and comfortable. They attached all the bath products to the wall which is okay but for the lotion is a bit inconvenient since you have to go the bathroom when you need it. It's also annoying that it's so hard to press the pump and you have to press it several times to get enough amount of shampoo or bath gel for each shower. I understand it's Balmain products but it's kinda cheesy for a 5 star hotel. Overall I think this hotel is a bit overrated

  • 4/5 Phil N. 8 months ago on Google
Historic, charming, and centrally located in Hanoi. Most staff can speak English well and experienced in hospitality. The hotel seems more for business clients. Our family is here for vacation and have been working our way from southern Vietnam to the north and have been staying at well recognized resorts. As mentioned, the staff is experienced and proper but not necessarily warming and overly hospitable.

  • 5/5 Matthew H. 8 months ago on Google
Well deserved rating. The staff are all great, very helpful. Food was a great representation of what Vietnamese cuisine has to offer especially the breakfast with the doughnut like buns. 5 stars for your security also, some countries such as Dubai and most of Middle East have intentionally intimidating security but here they just radiate quite competence and class

Wow, what an amazing time we had at the Sofitel Legend Metropole in Hanoi! They were doing some touch-ups on the historical side of the hotel, but it didn't dampen our experience one bit. The historical vibe of the place is really charming and adds a special feel to the whole stay. But what really took our experience from good to great were the people who work there. Whether we were dining in the restaurant, relaxing by the pool, using the gym, or just asking the concierge for recommendations, the staff was always super professional and friendly. The housekeeping was also top-notch. If you're thinking of visiting Hanoi, we'd totally recommend the Sofitel Legend Metropole. We had a stellar stay and wouldn't think twice about giving it a solid five stars. Thumbs up to the team there for their hard work and making us feel so welcome!

Very luxurious, every detail looked after. Location in old city near to lake / park, and numerous restaurants. Breakfast has everything - Vietnamese or western-style. Staff speak English (and French from what I can tell) very well, and are very helpful. Very interesting hotel tour including underground bunker - lots of history to be learned.

A wonderful hotel in the heart of Hanoi with incredible service, and an amazing Buffay breakfast included each morning. The rooms were beautifully appointed with very comfortable beds. The pool area was a welcome retreat after a day of touring. The staff were incredibly attentive and warm and friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi captivated my travel spirit, not merely as a hotel, but as a timeless emblem of more than a century of affluent history. From the moment we entered, the amiable staff, who seemed to seamlessly blend professional courtesy with genuine warmth, graciously welcomed us. Despite my relatively modest Silver elite status, they bestowed upon me a generous upgrade, an unexpected and delightful surprise. Wandering through the hotel, I became entranced by the tangible heritage pervading its halls and rooms, creating a palpable connection to a bygone era that significantly elevates the allure of the establishment. The omnipresent, well-preserved historical ambiance is unequivocally one of the Metropole's cardinal appeals. Nevertheless, it is without a veil of nostalgia that I observed the somewhat weary demeanor of the buildings, an inevitable testament to their advanced age. The gentle whisper of wear slightly tarnishes the otherwise impeccable experience. Eagerly, I anticipate the completion of the renovations on the main building, trusting it will symbiotically blend the old-world charm with contemporary finesse, ensuring the Metropole sustains its competitive edge in a vibrant hotel scene. (A point of reference: I also experienced a stay at the newly-opened Capella Hotel just across the street.)

Our family of four was in heaven in our adjacent rooms, which were comfortable, spacious, and pristine. The storied property is impeccable and ideally situated in the heart of Hanoi. We looked forward to the delicious breakfast spread every morning, and relished the poolside cocktails in the afternoons. The concierge service was valuable, and the warm greetings from the staff at every turn made us feel special and welcomed. The spa treatment was soothing, and the macarons left at turn down were the perfect way to finish off our night. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer. Hopefully, we'll be back.

I had a great experience at Sofitel Hanoi. The hotel is beautiful, the breakfast is superlative, and the staff were all so friendly. They were very accommodating, allowing me to extend my stay despite a busy week. I love to stay here.

The Sofitel Legend is a beautiful and comfortable hotel. The room is well appointed with an extremely comfortable bed. The pool is small but elegant. There are good onsite dining options. Breakfast is delightful offering a wide variety of Asian and Western options. The Sunday brunch at Le Beaulieu should be experienced and not missed.

I could not find fault with anything about this hotel. A great example of how a hotel should be run. Exceptional staff who could not do enough for you. Would have no hesitation in recommending this establishment and stay again should I get the opportunity again.

Elegant historic hotel in the heart of Hanoi shopping center. It’s the only hotel in the old quarter with a courtyard and swimming pool. The restaurant is very charming the food may not be the best but the cocktails and wine makes up for it. If you’re a serious shopper this is the best location. High end brands are at the lobby with direct access from inside the hotel.

We enjoyed our stay so much I would recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff were all friendly and eager to help. As soon as we turned up at the pool we had immediate service with a smile. Several times we went to Angelina’s for a drink and had wonderful service and loved the atmosphere. Breakfast was always plentiful and delicious. We stayed in several hotels during our 3 week holiday and this was definitely the best.

Everything from the moment we got out of our arranged transportation to our departure was excellent! We enjoyed an early check in with wonderful communication and a late check out. The concierge team was so helpful in arranging a city tour for us and we got everything we wanted out of the experience. The front desk, restaurant servers and all other staff were delightful and helpful. Will absolutely be recommending this hotel to anyone who visits Hanoi.

This hotel is a beautiful oasis in a bustling city. Even though this hotel is located right in the heart of the French quarter we found it so nice & quiet to return to the Sofitel after exploring Hanoi. The breakfast was extensive and delicious - there is nothing else we could have wanted. The pool was large and the couches around the pool extremely comfortable. The cocktail bar was gorgeous with an extensive range of different but delicious cocktails (and we are fussy with our cocktails) - happy hour was great (2 for 1 offer). All the staff at the hotel were extremely helpful and attentive - especially Do Thu Ha the guest relations supervisor who went above and beyond suggesting places for us to go, booking restaurants, mapping out where we needed to go and organising transport when we needed it- thank you! Would definitely stay here again!

The Metropole mostly lived up to the high bar that I had expected from a "Legends"-class 5-star hotel. The ample staff were well-trained and attentive; the suite was comfortable and well-appointed. The location is perfect for an early-morning stroll around the lake. The only area where it fell short for me was in the lack of a dress code in the business lounge (far too many open-toed shoes, t-shirts and shorts for a 5-star hotel) as well as a highly-disappointing meal in the Le Club restaurant.

Six friends from Texas spent three days at the beginning of our three week journey to SE Asia in the Sofitel. It was the perfect place to start our trip. The staff is welcoming and extremely helpful. The hotel, grounds, rooms, spa and restaurants were beyond our expectation. A first class setting. I wouldn't consider staying anyplace else if I make it back to Hanoi. A+++ experience.

I had a very nice stay at the Sofitel Legend Metropole in Hanoi. The staff is extremely professional, polite and helpful, the room was absolutely lovely and the food experience was very authentic and high quality. During the course of my travels I revisited Hanoi and stayed again, since my experience before had been great - the second experience was just as nice as the first one. I can only recommend this nice and well located hotel with an amazing team.

I love the hotel, we stay in the Metropole every time we go to Hanoi and that’s around once a month. It’s already like a second home for me! It’s more than clean, the staff is super friendly and helps wherever they can! The food is a bit expensive, but really nice! Breakfast is great and drinks in their hotel bar Angelina are great. It’s really one of the best hotels in Vietnam, you should try it 😉

I was so lucky to have a chance to stay at Sofitel Legend for 14 days during my quarantine + another one week in the Opera Wing which is open to all visitors. The room I was staying in during isolation was overlooking a park, comes with high ceiling, large window and a huge bathtub. You get to choose your preferred breakfast/lunch/dinner 1 day in advance from their menu and everything tastes amazing ! Thanks to Ms.Ngoc & her team who made sure all rules are followed strictly but still managed to be very friendly and kind to me. As odd as it may sound, I was quite sad to leave quarantine. I have 1 more day of stay remaining in Sofitel and wish I could extend it ! The staffs are very professional, kind and friendly. Everyone from the doorman to the house keeping team has made my stay awesome. I wish all hotels could just be like this

Ohhhhh what can I say. Some great detailed reviews here so do read them, however…. Fab location in the affluent French Quarter, stunning Art Deco style facility, gorgeous food (do take breakfast poolside, a must) a whiskey 🥃 bar that I didn’t get to (foolish!) and, this the reason why I will return… the management and staff are superb. From front of house to house maids to restaurant and bar staff there are splendid. Working 22JAN Duy, Ha and Ly, hope I got that right we super helpful, knowledgeable and caring at reception. Well done to all of you.

Here is the place where U.S.A. leader and N.Korea leader had a meeting in the past. This place keeps their history in a good condition and they welcomes you warmly. Of course this is 5star hotel, so you know what you can expect to them. Nice interior, good service, comfortable location for city tour. wow... what an incredible oasis in this busy city! we spent four nights in this iconic hotel. what makes a hotel so special? the rooms? the history? no... the people! we loved the room and the hotel. the location is perfect.. but the people and their service is the best of all. I think not many hotels in the world are on this level. If coming to Hanoi... the only possible choice for us.

From the moment I entered Metropole, I was greeted by kind and helpful staff. My room was great, the breakfast was even better, but the staff were the best part. They were very responsive to my needs and flexible to my many reservation changes, and attentive to my needs. At metropole, they pay attention to the details that make a guest's stay better, and I appreciated that. Thank you for your service.

Excellent!! Second time here since 2014 very well maintained spotless and great service. Breakfast in the garden was excellent love it! Love the bed sheet high quality cotton and to take home I purchased from the hotel. Avoid busy lunch time at the garden as service became very slow and we had to wait for 40 mins to get our bun cha and banh mi...

When you stay at the Metropole Legend you are staying in a true slice of history. The very best in Hanoi and quite possibly in all of Vietnam. One of the very best hotels we have had the pleasure of staying in. My wife and I had a few days to celebrate our 5th anniversary after a work conference in Saigon. The hotel is outstanding in every w the heart of Hanoi and market streets in the Old Quarter, to the high calibre staff who made our stay so memorable. They are very well trained and anticipated our every need. The facilities are fabulous and spotless with people cleaning around the clock in our room as well as the venue in general. The restaurants are located on the ground floor and offer some of the very best local and European fair. Breakfast around the pool, jazz at night in Le Club and cocktails and cigars at Angelina late at night. This place is hard to top. Leisurely stroll the the lake, night markets and get right into the busy crowds, but always feel the serenity of coming back to this quiet precinct on the back of a cycling rickshaw when it gets too much. We loved our stay in Hanoi and will be back to stay here as often as we can. It’s become an instant new favourite for us both.

Amazing amazing amazing. The staff are engaging and kind always seeking to help, the food is delicious (breakfast was fantastic), rooms are great, grounds are beautiful, and the history of the hotel is very cool (take the hotel history tour). We spent an incredible week here and they went out of their way to make us feel special during each and every interaction- it is a verrrry well run hotel 10/10. They decorated our room for my birthday and sent me a cake with a beautiful card- completely made my day. The service is impeccable. At one point I needed superglue, at another point I needed a large box and tape, at another point I asked for cards and envelopes and they arranged for everything that I requested very quickly and with no hesitation. We had some visa issues and the concierge called immigration on our behalf and resolved our issues. We also left our hiking boots outside of the room door one night to not track rainwater and dust into the room, and housekeeping cleaned and dried our shoes without us even asking. They really went out of their way! The gym and sauna steam set up are nice. Thank you for such an unforgettable stay! PS they leave fresh macaroons on your pillow every night - amazing 😍

Beautiful hotel in the best location for a visit to Hanoi. Our stay was excellent from start to finish - more than anything the staff were just fantastic. We had some last minute changes in our trip and everyone was so helpful with any and all requests we had. The rooms are beautifully designed, comfortable, and quiet. The breakfast had a wide choice and was great, the airport limo transfer was great, and the benefits from Amex made our stay even better. Will be back!

It was a very pleasant & comfortable stay. Hotel is very well maintained & exquisite. Slight similarity to Raffles Singapore. Had drinks & food at the Angelina, recommended. Staff were very friendly too. Had dinner at Le Club Bar, with in-house live jazz. (Food at the hotel are all delicious). The location is walking distance to the Hanoi Opera House, Temple of Literature, Hanoi Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake, etc. Convenient to most location.

Honestly exceeded my expectations. Was hesitant when booking from the photos since the decor looked aged, but the room was of high quality and breakfast was fantastic. This place knows how to surprise and delight. Shoutout to the bellhop that was extremely accommodating in retrieving and attentively handling my bags so I could grab a change of clothes after I got caught in Hanoi’s unpredictable weather after checkout.

Love the architecture of this place. Rooms are clean and lay-out is good. Service is great. Breakfast is good too. For welcome drinks though, you need to go to the bar. Can't have it via room service.

The moment we arrived, we were welcomed and treated so well. The place is perfectly located to access Hanoi and then return to perfect tranquility. We dined at the Angelina and Le Beaulieu restaurants and thoroughly enjoyed both. Most of all, we enjoyed the professionalism of the staff. They always brought their A game to their work. Our room was always neat and tidy. This hotel is a masterpiece and I will stay here again when we come back to Hanoi.

Nothing but the best at this legendary hotel. The reception staff was courteous and efficient, everything you’d expect at this kind of property. The staff kindly helped us with loading and unloading of all the luggage. They even stored it for us and took care of it when we checked out to visit halong bay. Lots in here for history buffs. Highly recommend.

A historical landmark and hospitality flagship in Hanoi. The hotel is everything a 5 star property should be like. We stayed twice during a family vacation in December in two separate rooms. Highlights: - Amazing breakfast (tip: go to the covered greenhouse). Not only is there a great variety of items, but they are all of great quality, which is not always the case in hotels. Great mix between local flair and western products, with attentive service and quality which can be perceived even in the tablecloths and napkins used. Only suggestion to elevate it even more would be to have a live fruit juice station available To highlight the amazing local fruit varieties - Turndown service: replenishing of glass water bottles (plus in sustainability there), laying of slippers and hands down some of the best macarons! - Attentive and discreet service For next time: - Front office had run out of local currency when we asked to exchange money - The building is a historical landmark in Hanoi and the decor highlights it, as it should. However, I believe there is an opportunity to make the reception/ front office area more impressive and generate a greater “wow” factor that enhances the property’s uniqueness Would definitely return!

Amazing hotel in a fantastic location. Sofitel Metropole is located in the French quarter of Hanoi only a few minutes walk to beautiful Hoàn Kiếm Lake and the bustling old quarter. Going on leisurely walks nearby the hotel is lovely and relaxing. The rooms were phenomenal, very comfortable and constant room service to keep things clean. They also keep a fresh rose in the room everyday and a macaron every night! The breakfast, lunch and dinner options at the restaurant by the pool was very good too and they offered us complimentary welcome drinks twice. All the hotel staff were incredibly friendly and the service was excellent. It was in fact the most satisfying hotel experience I have had. I hope to stay again at Sofitel Hanoi and could not recommend it more.

Great hotel with all the facilities and good and friendly staff with good hospitality. It is a good place to stay with all and roam around the Hanoi city. Near to all major attractive places and lake too. Best stay.

Avoid room 379. Only stay of you have courage and nerve. I woke up 3 times at the same time in the middle of the night. Moved to room 390 on my last night but still unrestful sleep Remember the hotel was there since 1901. Location is super fantastic. Angelina bar is awesome. Tunnel tour at 6pm everyday with prior reservation (but I did not join).
