The best restaurant we were in Hanoi. We loved the food, the service, the place, everything. We tried the vietnamese set menu and everything was delicious. It was a nice lunch, probably a more expensive than the places around but it totally worth it. If you are in Hanoi you should tried this!

This is an expensive restaurant in the heart of Hanoi old quarter. The food and service of the staff was exceptional! I tried their chef recommended and restaurant favourite grilled catfish with rice noodles. It was served in a sizzling plate and the entire rice paper, sauce and rolling experience made my first Vietnamese food experience memorable. Food - 10/10 Service - 11/10 Ambience - 8/10 Location - 10/10 I would recommend this place if you don’t mind splurging for one nice meal. The staff was very courteous, they also offered a welcome dish which I thought was a nice touch!

It's not the best Vietnamese food in the country. Although some people say it is. Service and atmosphere are superb. The spring rolls are nice and pretty. Both fried and non fried spring rolls are provided. The Pho has hardly any beef. The soup has a light clean beef bone stock with a slightly enhanced flavor. The ground pork skewers did not have a superb pork taste. Most customers would not notice since they are dipped in sweet sauce. The desert was ice cream with mochi and red bean paste. That was Vietnamese set 1. It's a very nice combination. Foreign customers are impressed with the presentation and the sum of its parts. But individually, the dishes are not the best. I was there in June 2023.

The best restaurant we went to in all of Hanoi! They opened up a few days early for us ahead of their official reopening and hosted our rowdy group of 14. The food was SO delicious (seriously so so YUMMY), service was incredible, and the ambience was modern with Vietnamese charm. They even surprised us with a whole cake for our anniversary! As a Vietnamese-American, HIGHLY RECOMMEND especially if you’re from the U.S. and want a great sampler of authentic Vietnamese food but are a little nervous to try the street food.

Full Update: We were so excited for the promise of a delightful culinary exploration with Duong tonight but unfortunately we were beyond disappointed with the entire experience instead. Overall, poor service, stale quality of food, and lack of care left all of us with regret, loss of time and empty stomachs. Made reservations 3 weeks in advance and a received acknowledgement of our booking including dietary restrictions so it was shocking to realize that none of that mattered. Service 1/5 - Abysmal, there was no attention or care after we were seated by the hostess. Food was dropped off with as much charisma and light as the watered down margaritas that were served. Our table was not cleared before the next plates was shoved onto an already full table. When I suggested that the young male server remove the empty plates before setting down our mains, it was like he saw a 3 headed monster. No serving utensils were offered - I suppose we were to use a butter knife for the duck breast? It took a few rounds before we had cutlery to serve our food. Food 2/5 - We ordered 4 starters and 2 mains to start. The fried Hanoi rolls, the Mango Seafood salad, salmon carpaccio and shrimp tarter. Saving grace was the inventiveness and flavor profile of the shrimp tarter. Hanoi rolls had a great presentation but nothing to call home about and the fading star of the mango salad was the nicely cooked squid. The salmon carpaccio was inedible - it was neither flavorful nor fresh. Definitely tasted like defrosted frozen salmon sliced incorrectly. We all had a small bite and left the remaining order. Had the attention of the servers been more astute, they would have noticed it was barely touched and we could have had a conversation. Again, not a big deal - let's wait for the main show, hopefully that'll get better!? NOPE. For our mains we ordered the duck breast and salmon both cooked medium. As you can see from the pictures, medium perhaps translates to overcooked at Duong? The duck breast were mediocre at best. The salmon as you can see from the photos had zero flakiness or redeeming quality. Tasted like defrosted frozen salmon that was thrown onto a baking sheet. I'm glad we didn't waste our time or money on ordering more mains. Highly disappointed that the chef would allow some of these dishes to come out of the kitchen. Ambiance 2/5 - We sat upstairs and while the air was cool, the aura was devoid of character. There was hardly any energy or life in the restaurant, maybe that's why the staff appeared quite somber. Perhaps something happened tonight that we're not aware of but we were able to hear a pin drop. Drinks 1/5 - Margaritas were bland and watered down, was hoping they resembled more like a cocktail and less like lime flavored water with a salted rim. They had sold out of their house white by 7pm tonight. I was told that I can order a bottle of white wine if I wanted but there were no glass options. Poor planning on the bartender's part but also inexcusable to not have an easy remedy on hand. I really wanted to love this restaurant and regret this experience when Tung (another elevated epicurean experience in Hanoi) was just down the road. I wanted to share my feedback with the staff but I don't think they cared - though I tried at the end to explain to our server that the salmon was inedible. We had to find another dinner after tonight. For over 1.8MM VND across 3 people, I would have liked to have a more favorable memory but alas, sometimes we don't get what we want. Someone please tell me I went to the wrong restaurant as there is no way this could have been Michelin rated/admitted. PS. They accept credit cards which is a bonus. They also charge a 10% VAT on top of their pricing, not sure why they don't just fold it in as with standard practice outside of the USA.

Went here after reading about it in the Michelin guide and also recommended by hotel as a place to celebrate my birthday. Relaxed atmosphere, very pleasant staff and excellent food. Really good fusion. We ate from the a la carte. Traditional Vietnamese dishes with a little refinement. A complimentary birthday dessert at the end of our meal as well. Thoroughly recommend. You won't be disappointed and very good value.

Is a fixed menu but one can choose to omit any of the dishes. spring roll is normal, beef pho is delicious. the fish… the most expensive and I had only had one bite. Very disappointing meal, coming to an experienced chef restaurant. Service staff was only checking when the next dish can be served. When we left before 8pm, there were only 3 other new diners.

So glad we visited this restaurant. Great value for food and I love the attention to detail in their presentation like the cinnamon stick that the chopsticks rests on. Their BBQ pork in lemon grass (Bún Chà) was to die for, it was so good that we almost came back the following day.

The first lane stopped by on a business trip. The restaurant is located in a small street. The supper was rushed but extremely tasty. As soon as I entered the restaurant, the table was already full. I thought I had to wait a long time. However I am quite lucky. Received a very enthusiastic welcome by the friends in the restaurant from the beginning to the end of the meal. The first dish is spring rolls, seafood green mango salad, and finally fish cake. I have eaten these dishes elsewhere. Here Cha Ca is served with a special shrimp sauce. Not like the shrimp paste I used to eat. However here I have found to be one of the best I have ever eaten, very good service. You are very young and enthusiastic. Thanks for this wonderful experience. Definitely Will be back.

As a veteran and also a guide, I often take guests to visit the historical monuments around Hanoi, as well as introduce foreign tourists to dishes about Hanoi cuisine. , as well as Vietnam. My first impression of the restaurant is that the staff is very professional and well-trained. The hospitality as well as the service is very good. They greeted me with a hot cup of iced tea the day before the storm while waiting for my guests to finish their meals. I was received very kindly they gave me a very special bowl of beef pho, it was amazing beyond all expectations. It has the sweetness of the broth of bone broth cooked for hours, rather than the raw seasoning. Everything is very comfortable. My guests are also very satisfied. They always give special compliments. Will come back and recommend more to visitors.

After having spent two days in the historical quarter,- we found this hidden gem of Vietnamese food. The quality was outstanding! I tried many spring rolls before, but not in this quality. Fresh, crunchy and so delicious. Extra sauce and an amazing combination of herbs and spices. The chef is one of the finest. Our second course was the next culinary surprise. We wanted to be safe and ordered papaya salad,- but the chef put it on a new level. Absolutely great. Main dish was no less than that. I’ll definitely come back and will highly recommend Duongs restaurant to all people who are in love with Vietnamese food.

It was my favourite restaurant in Hanoi before Covid. Since then, the menu have less items. The Cha Ca (grilled cat fish) is still a must try. The staff is still great.

Set out for dinner at anther restaurant that apparently had closed down. Stopped at a nearby hotel and the receptionist suggested this place. I arrived about 15 minutes after they closed. I explained the situation to James,  the general manager,  who greeted me upon my entrance and he invited me to stay and eat.  After a quick glance at the menu I opted for a set Vietnamese menu with an appetizer, soup, entree and dessert. The spring roll appetizer included a fried spring roll and a traditional spring roll with shrimp & pork. Both were delicious. The BBQ pork was in a slightly sweet broth of fish sauce with a mild lemongrass flavor, and was amazing. The black sticky rice in yogurt with ice cream was the right amount of sweet to complete the meal. While I was apprehensive at first, it was quite good. This was the best meal I had while in Hanoi. The hospitality shown by James and his staff was exemplary. They made me feel very welcome even though I arrived late and was accrual "that guy". If you're in Hanoi, do yourself a favor and visit Duong restaurant, you won't be disappointed.

Had a great time at Duong’s Restaurant last night. It’s newly reopened so there was only a set menu available. They were quite accommodating in letting my friend who had stomach issues order one plate. The service was great and the food was as well. The standouts were the spring rolls, beef pho, grilled fish, and the Vietnamese meatballs (bun cha). Definitely check this place out.

Really awesome place: the best one I visited during my stay at Hanoi. The food was amazing and the service incredible. The waitress explained us all the dishes before eating them and was very nice. We shared 4 dishes among 4 people for 350K VND each and they were really tasty. Absolutely a MUST.

Loved the food! It was a bit pricey but worth it looking at the quality and food presentation! The waitress was really welcoming and friendly in explaining us the ingredients, etc.! Highly recommend it😊 P.S.: obviously I couldn't get proper photos of those beautiful dishes as my partner-in-crime ruined the scene (as always)!

Super highly recommended. Flavor was even better than presentation... which I didn’t think was possible. Servers are friendly and helpful, explaining how to eat each and every dish. Menu spans Vietnamese cuisine with lots of options, all of them excellent. Black sticky rice dessert was a fantastic way to end the meal.

Excellent food and ambience. We found this restaurant via Google for nearby to Silk Path hotel and were very pleasantly surprised. Our party had either BBQ pork skewers or tiger prawn mains. Our waiter Johnie Walker, even took the prawns from their shells for the ladies! The desserts were all absolutely fabulous too. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of food and service

The food was excellent but they have to improve on their service. Better communication about what is no longer available. It took them half a hour between serving the first and the last cocktail. In the meantime they served the starters which didn’t go with the cocktails. Luckily we took all the same menu. There is one toilet on the third floor so not very convenient for our mother. The prices are without 10% tax so the all ready spicy bill is spiced up more. I really don’t understand why it’s not included in the prices. They really did their best but when u have the ambition to operate in this segment you have to deliver.

One of the best feeds you will get in Hanoi hands down. This street has very authentic Vietnamese cuisines. Check it out as a must.

Returning to the restaurant after 4 years. There's a lot of variation here. Do not expect the menu to have many new dishes, but there are dishes that I still eat again such as beef noodle soup and grilled pork bun cha. It is very very delicious. I remembered the restaurant all the way before I set foot in Hanoi with my wife. Young people are active and fun. Very professional service.

Michelin guide listed the restaurant, but take it with a grain of salt. Just came back from dinner there tonight. The deep fried springrools were okay, few of them were even slightly burned. The mango sea food salad was the best dish of the meal. I was tempted for the Australian wagyu that was supposed to be 4/5 marbling but I think it was a reep off, Not my first wagyu and that was just mediocre steak at a price of dinner for 2. Hugh mistake! The duck breast had a big tendon right through the middle.

Exquisite food and friendly service. I ordered the beef Tartare for appetizer, followed by grilled fish Hanoi style as main course. The manager recommended wine pairings with the fish, which was perfect. Don’t worry if this is the first time you try Vietnamese dishes. Friendly staff are there to explain to you how to best eat each dish. You’re guaranteed to have an amazing experience. The fish was the best I’ve had in a long while, and I recently visited the South of Thailand. So that says a lot! I would definitely recommend as I would love to come back here again myself.

Another place we found a good selection of vegetarian food. Was recommended by our hotel bell desk. We had Pho rice noodles with vegetables and shrimp rolls. The food was very good. Would recommend this place. Go with a booking.

We ordered traditional menu 1 & 2 and western set 1. Very good food. Worthy to come back.

  • 5/5 Yanni T. 1 year ago on Google
We had the traditional set menu with the quintessential fresh and fried spring rolls and pho. All dishes were well executed and the staff spoke good English. Great for an experience of excellent Vietnamese cooking in a comfortable environment. However there is limited first floor seating so you may need to climb up and down some narrow flights of stairs.

  • 5/5 Vince V. 11 months ago on Google
This was a very enjoyable meal with subtle twist on Vietnamese classics. It's a small (Vietnamese) menu. There are also several Western options. If you are doing standard classic dishes then to stand out is a real challenge. We think Duongs succeeds. The staff are efficient but certainly not overwhelming or obsequious. The two of us shared set classic 1 and 2 and it was excellent. We did feel that the ice-cream didn't work with the more subtle dessert - and we like ice cream, but otherwise great. Recommended

We had some really outstanding food last night. Ingredients are very fresh. Meat especially and cooked very simply. I don’t usually eat fried stuff but their fried food is not oily. Had so many spring rolls since I first visited Vietnam in 2012 multiple times. Their spring rolls are fresh, prawns are sweet, dipping sauce is just delicious. Main courses were fresh, the stuffed chicken thighs are very delicious and the chicken is fresh. Oh the desert, I dunno where to start. It was just outstanding.

Quality strongly decreased. We ate at Doung’s on the re-opening night after covid. This is our second time here. I remember the first time at Duong’s, in 2018, as an amazing culinary experience. Yet, this time the food was mediocre. I have been told that the chef is still the same. So what happened?

  • 2/5 JS5o4 1 year ago on Google
Waitor was super friendly but food took forever to come out. There was electrical problem and no AC for some time. Food itself had really nice presentation but I wasn't impressed. Street food tastes better but it looks like alot of tourist likes eating here so it may be for them.

Fantastic!!!! Over the moon! Food was amazing! The dish presentation is very original! The staff was sooo friendly and explained all dishes when serving. I could practice some Vietnamese and learn. They speak very good English. Loved this experience. Lucky we found this place. Go to the back of the restaurant, is the most beautiful room

  • 5/5 Hilo 4 years ago on Google
Actually it is not expensive. Though it may cost double the price of normal restaurants in Hanoi, it is still considered cheap if comparing to food in Europe and Singapore. Without wine the total bill for four is just around 100$ which is very good value for $. A la Carte is better than set meal. Interesting place to eat. Staff all very friendly. Very interactive experience. Food displayed nicely and tastes good. Especially the dessert. Chicken banana leaf salad is salty. Rest of the food all nice. A good place to celebrate bday in Hanoi.

Amazing food and service. It’s a really expensive restaurant and prices are VAT excluded. I am sharing the pictures of the menu. However the food was exceptionally delicious and they offered starters for free. Also explaining the each food. Hence I believe it deserve 5 stars

My girlfriend and I came twice here. Always very good, one of the best Vietnamese restaurant where I ate. Excellent food and drinks, original and very tasty. In addition, the service is very good, thank you again to Pineapple!

Amazing dinner! We had the chef’s fixed menu with wine, which is pricier than many of the surrounding restaurants but still less expensive than anywhere in the States (five courses with paired wine for $50/person). It was delectable. We loved the unique aesthetic, the daring Vietnamese food, and the attention to service and detail. We arrived later, around 8pm, so did not have a wait, but we could tell that they were just coming off a heavy dinner service. Would recommend making a dinner reservation if you go during earlier dinner hours.

Had a wonderful time eating here with two friends. It was just across from our hotel and we managed to get in without a reservation without too much trouble. The service was impeccable and everyone really enjoyed their meal. They catered for two vegetarians with no problem.

I tried three things on the menu: fresh spring rolls, the cha ca (catfish), and grilled eggplant. Springs rolls were solid. Good flavour, but taste was bit overpowered by the basil leaves. The cha ca was fine? Rice paper was hard to roll cause it doesn’t get moist enough. The waiter/waitress needs to help monitor the fire because my veggies and some fish got burnt. (Can’t blame them, but would have helped). Catfish flavours .. not there, wish I got the pork. Grilled eggplant was delicious but it misses the “grilled” essence of it. The sauce was great. Overall experience 3.5/5. Staff was nice and tried to explain dishes but efforts fell short. Their attentiveness wavered as they just hung out at the bar, creating some gaps in service. Follow up was lacking after initial question whether I was done with my meal. In conclusion? Food was adequate but not wow, especially for the price they charge. Misses mark of being special.
