The food was absolutely amazing. The springs rolls to begin were some of the best I have ever had as well as the bbq beef and desert. Lastly, the service was the best I have had in all of Vietnam. Tom, the manager, was wonderful and fun. This is a must for dinner in Hanoi Old Quarter

Simple, small restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating featuring traditional Vietnamese cuisine. Some English spoken. Cash and credit card payments accepted. Nice quiet space to escape the hustle and bustle of a busy tourist area on a hot (or occasionally cold!) Hanoi day. Host is very friendly and speaks English well. Menu is expansive and offers a variety of dishes, some that appear more authentically Vietnamese and others that are less so (pasta, breakfast, etc.) The standout dish of our outing was the Hanoi-style grilled fish. A generous helping of grilled fish over sauteed veggies. Served with a plate of fresh herbs and rice paper wrappers to make your own rolls. Wrappers weren't soaked and so were a bit stiff and crunchy but the flavors were very good. On the other hand, the frog/chicken/beef with lemongrass and chili was rather lackluster. Not bad, just not overly flavorful. The frog might be worth ordering out of curiosity and looked tender enough. But in all three there was as similar, non-descript sauce that didn't add anything in terms of flavor and was more of a distraction than anything. Each served with a side of rice. The Hanoi-style fresh spring rolls (not fried) had good flavor but again the rice paper wraps were a bit stiff. A nice little hideaway but the food is average. However the jasmine tea is very pleasant!

We visited this restaurant as it was just a short walk from our accommodation. It is off the tourist route but I am so glad we found it. We had fresh spring rolls which were generous in size, tuna with rice as a main and shrimp/squid with noodles plus a couple of local beers. Food is freshly made, and really good quality. Prices are reasonable considering it's a 5 min walk from the church. A very slight down - our waitress didn't give us much attention once the order was taken but in her defence she was on her own and had to be at the front of the restaurant whilst we're towards the back away from the smokers sitting just outside. I recommend this place and would eat here again if I had the time.

My boyfriend and I showed up here later in the evening (probably close to 9pm) just before closing, and we were a little hesitant because we weren't sure if there would be enough time to eat. However, the waitress was extremely welcoming, ushered us in and told us many times not to rush our meal. She was super friendly and attentive (almost too attentive some times but in cute way!). Everything was absolutely perfect and I would definitely come back here if I am ever back in Hanoi.

Went here as it was nearby our hotel and had good reviews. Had a lovely meal served by a lovely friendly waitress. After the meal she asked my husband his opinion of his meal as it was new on the menu. He had only just been telling me how delicious it was so it wasn’t difficult to give her the same positive feedback. Will go back again tomorrow night for more.

The staff was very kind. Food was also delicious. Above all the place was very clean and you can even communicate in English. I especially liked that the staff gave an English menu to everyone, not normal in Vietnam restaurant!

Very good food. Despite the location, it is not a tourist trap and they serve good quality dishes. Removing one star because the fish was a little undercooked.

Lovely people and great food! We had fresh springrolls, tofu in tomato sauce and shrimp in lemongrass. It was all very tasty and fresh. Not expansive, even though it is a bit touristic area/alley.

Great place for a quick lunch. Friendly service, good food, reasonable prices, relaxed atmosphere. Enjoyed a nice BBQ chicken sandwich on a baguette, with fries as a bit of a change from usual Vietnamese fare. Also tried the spring rolls which were fresh and tasty with a spicy warmed dipping sauce. Sip on the cold beer and watch the street activity, ... relax. Located off the hustle and bustle of the nearby main street. Recommended.

Food is very home cook style. Banana flower salad with chicken is peppery and tasty. Hanoi spring rolls crispy. Stir fried veggies with mushrrom is like a Chinese stir fried.Chicken cashew nuts with veggies is very yummy. Had the Hanoi Beer, quite a big bottle of around 450ml, taste is light and fresh. Service is good and fast food delivery.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND AVOID THIS PLACE. I had a terrible experience here. Ordered Bun Cha which comes with a pork in a bowl with rice noodles on the other plate. Once I tried rice noodles it had a very sour flavour (usually rice noodles are tasteless, so this one must have been very old/bad) so I asked the waiter if the taste has to be like this. I got the answer that it should not be sour, so I asked to change rice noodles while my pork was cooling on the table. After 10minutes I got a new plate of rice noodles... the waiter was waiting for me to try (that was weird as he was standing like half a meter from me) BUT.. It was even much more sour that the one in the last plate and it had a very strong terrible smell... I told to waiter that it is inedible, and I got the answer that it tastes good as he tried it himself. But I offered him to smell what I received and they imediately took the plate from me. So the waiter was lying to me that he tried. Anyway the pork was acceptable, hovever the portions are small, but they didn't charged me for the noncence they gave to me. But please avoid this place if you don't want end up vomiting.

Ordered a beef with lemongrass. A bit sweet. Feeling the food is more for tourists and foreigners. Service was good. The lady Honz was trying to help me with my order and fish sauce. It’s not easy to find authentic Vietnamese food in the old quarter.

We had the banana flower salad, stir fried noodles with vegetables and sweet and sour chicken and it was some of the best food we tried in Vietnam. One notable aspect of Au Lac restaurant is the ambiance that creates a traditional and cozy atmosphere. I tried the Pho Bo here, and it was truly delicious. The rich broth, tender beef, and smooth noodles made it an excellent choice for a traditional Hanoi meal.

Looks like a turist 'trap' as their menu has spaghetti and other western dishes but the vietnamese food was great. The meat was of high quality, which was a first time for me in Hanoi (ie not too fatty). Service was great as well.

👍👍 It's such a great and wonderful Pizza 🍕 😋 I ever have. I can't explain how wonderful it is. Also Spaghetti 🍝 😋 was so good. They cooked 80% for the spaghetti. For half chicken teriyaki and half 4 cheeses, is such a very good smell from the charcoal stove. It's very harmonized tasted in one full...
