Could've missed the entrance if we don't know the address of this "traditional" cafe. We were very early and the place seemed like someone's house. We only found out that the cafe starts at 8am from a delivery girl. The place looks very unique. We took many photos from different location within that "house". This place is recommended for their Egg Coffee. Since we're in Hanoi, them must try their Egg Coffee. It looks very much like Cappuccino but with a more brownish foam. The foam also much thicker and it's sweet. Best to try to drink the foam with the coffee which is at the bottom cause the coffee itself is very bitter. They gave a small cup of very diluted tea; I guess to rinse off the bitterness of the coffee. This place is very popular with the locals.

Went to this place 8 years ago and revisited again, I can't believe the ambient is still similar! The location is hidden behind several shops, need to walk inside behind shops then you need to order first before go upstair. Very nice to drink coffee and mango drink to wind up after long walk at Old Quarter, the view was nice. Visited during weekday night and not many people. Recommended if you want to relax at night while observing the night view.

Nice cafe. You walk through an alley to get to it. There are many floors of seating area with alter in the middle. Top floor is open with partial view of Turtle Lake. But you can’t see it when sitting down. Egg coffee topping is delicious but the serving cup is too wide so it is very messy when drinking it. Coconut coffee highly recommended! So good! The shop does have an old smell and there are lots of mosquitos at the bottom level.

Unique cafe near Hoam Kiel lake. The entrance of the cafe is through a narrow ally passed a clothing shop. It has an antique decor, very beautiful. The cafe has many floors and seating areas and the roof top terrace has a direct view of the lake. The egg coffee was delicious and the coconuts are cold. Highly recommended for an unique experience

Is a hidden n beautiful cafe to visit in the morning for a nice cup of egg coffee... Believe that most of the people are there to take photos 📸 of the whole place... The cafe is full of old antiques.... Layout of the cafe is very nice.... Can just take order of your coffee downstairs n go straight up to the Top floor... Their staff will serve whatever u order at wherever u sit... Great to visit with friends n family ...

Creamy delicious egg coffee! Slightly more expensive than the other cafes… but I guess you pay for the atmosphere. Do climb all the way up to the top floor in the evening for some photos.

Discover a quaint yet spacious coffee haven tucked away discreetly. Accessible through a charming traditional clothing store, proceed to the rear, placing your order before ascending through four levels, culminating in a rooftop escape. The lake view enhances the ambiance. Savor a lusciously creamy egg coffee, its robust coffee essence delighting your palate. Unwind in this serene retreat, perfect for a leisurely coffee break.

Nice ambience. The restaurant has multiple levels, customers can choose to sit anywhere they prefer. The food is alright, although it would be better if the spring rolls were served with sauce instead.

Great spot for coffee lovers! The egg coffee was unique and tasted really good. The cafe is also very spacious and has multiple levels/ floors.

This is a very interesting cafe hidden behind some tailor shops on the street side. The family operating the cafe seems to still be living on site and the open kitchen is shared between the business and the household. The old pet dog even greets customers sometimes. There's a small cafe space at the ground level and the front counter, then there's more seating on the second, third and fourth floors. Watch your step as it's a bit hard to climb. The rooftop has good views of the lake. We ordered drinks and they were good. Nice place to chill and relax. The staff are nice and helpful.

Great view on the top. It is hidden inside a small alley with 2 shops in front. Drinks are variety and very good. Egg coffee was great. Staffs are ok. Nothing to worry about. Have to go all the way down or speak out loud or go through the steep stairs in order to get other drinks.

It’s like a secret cafe because you have to go into a silk shop first and go down a very narrow alley to get into the cafe. It’s so beautiful and reminds me of an old Chinese home. There are several floors to choose from and each one looks slightly different. There’s a rooftop as well where you can get a view of the lake. The only thing was there were quite a few tourists so if you go, expect it.

We came here for egg coffee and it’s worth the visit. Coffee is tasty, atmosphere is really nice. The shop is well located and traditional on the first floor with many antique items. You also can get to 4th floor for quite nice view. This is one of three cafes in Hanoi that i came for egg coffee!

The entrance is through some clothing shops so it's a bit hidden. You order and pay when you enter the shop, and then from there it is a steep 2-3 story journey up some old stairs to get to a nice rooftop view of the lake. It was nice and breezy when we went, a lot cooler than on the street. The decoration on the inside is very typical of Vietnamese Chinese families in the north, so you can get a taste of the furniture, architecture, and style if you are interested in that. The drinks were average and maybe a bit more expensive than what you would get in another local place but we came here for the atmosphere anyway.

Very relaxing ambient in the busy downtown. Hidden place inside of a goods shop, temple like monument and up light structure of the premise is iconic. I ordered hot egg coffee even in this hot summer and it’s not that sweet as people say.The waiters are helpful, the view from the top floor is very nice.

You have to make your way through a narrow alley to find the hidden gem behind. After ordering and paying, be prepared to make your way up to three flights of narrow stairs to the sitting area upstairs. You can choose to sit in the aircon indoor area or at the outdoor or rooftop area. It's a novel concept, but there's not much of a view unless you're on the roof. I tried the egg coffee and the yogurt with coffee - personally prefer the Cafe Giang ones more but this was still good.

Cute cafe, when you walk in you are led down a long hallway which will bring you to the register where you place your order and then find your self a seat. It was cool to walk up the different levels of the building, lots of green plants and trinkets. Egg coffee was delicious, nice and rich with a velvety finish.

It's a famous place for it's egg coffee, interior and rooftop view. But I also want to say they have really delicious drinks. I loved iced coconut cocoa, grapefruit juice, pomegranate juice. The food menu is also quite big. We tried fried nem, which were good

Great place to have some local Egg Coffee. Access to higher levels of the place is a bit hard due to height and layout. Do climb to the top most level for a wonderful view of Hoan Kiem Lake.

Great egg coffee and stunning view of the Hoan Kiem lake. The building used for this cafe is an old charming Vietnamese house with plenty of beautiful flowers. The entrance of the cafe is through a small alleyway behind unassuming shops.

Good drinks. I have no idea how the waiters found us across the 3 floors and many other people but that's part of the charm. Another part is finding the place. Which we did through a clothes shop and a short tunnel between multiple buildings. In short, a joy even if you do not drink coffee.

I've tried Dinh, Café Giang, and Old Town Café's egg coffee and I have to say this is the BEST of the three! The café is hidden in the old quarter and it was such a treat finding this gem. It has a great view of the lake as well.

  • 5/5 David W. 6 months ago on Google
Almost worth coming for the experience of entering via the clothes shop and going up the narrow stairs alone. The cà phê trứng/egg coffee was a nice treat - more of a dessert than a drink. The cups seemed bigger than what we got at Giang Café the day before.

Delicious egg coffee (45K) and nice hidden building! You'll have to go through a clothes shop to find the café. A pretty quiet place in the heart of the chaotic historic centre of Hanoi.

  • 5/5 Bret S. 7 months ago on Google
Slip around the clothes store at the front of the entrance, you'll see the plants and stairwell soon enough, indicating that you found Cafe Pho Co. Order at the counter to your left as you walk in, and they will bring up your drinks. We enjoyed our egg latte and Vietnamese iced coffee overlooking the lake. Highly recommended!

This is actually cafe pho co but shows up as old garden cafe on Google maps. We ordered coffee with milk and another one black - I would say it was ok. Ordered banana and chocolate cake and they were really moist and hit the spot. The view is great and with live music playing next door it was a good time to wind down. It was tricky to find this place - we went around 10pm so I've taken pics to guide you.

Interesting place to visit. Looks like an old Chinese vibe building with different view and decorations each floor. Food sad average. Service could be better.

The view is amazing! The place itself feels like a hidden spot. The coffee was great, i had the egg coffee cold. It’s good to experience a cafe in that area and that kind of vibe.

Really nice to experience traditional cafes off laneways. This one you enter through a silk shop, down a lane and a lovely cafe appears. In a traditional building with nice architecture, traditional furniture and many plants it is a very nice experience. Air conditioned section and open air area with a few tables with views over the lake. Small steps to get to upper levels so note that. Staff were friendly and customers were 80% Vietnamese when i went there.

I think this is a must visit in Hanoi, you get to see the lake on their rooftop. It hid inside a alley and in an old building. Drinks are decent, but you come here for the view and the experience.

oh. egg thing is not for me. I could not drink at all, lol. the floor is slippery, and i fell down ;( staff is nice, the house is a bit creepy but this is an old type of vietnam house!

This place was so nice! We ordered the hot egg coffee, Coca Cola and avocado and soursop smoothie. It was my first time to try soursop in a smoothie and it's now one of my favorite things! It's sweet and a little sour but a perfect and delicious balance. The egg coffee was thick and sweet and creamy. The place is also really lovely. There are so many fun places to sit and it's entertaining to wander around.

Hidden behind a clothes shop you will find this small, charming café. The somewhat unusual path first leads through the shop to then reach the restaurant in the back area. Orders are placed directly in the lower area, where the toilets are also located. A short climb up several stairs then leads to the roof, where you can take a seat. There you have a beautiful view of the nearby small lake. The architecture of the building - long and narrow - provides a natural, cool draught, which is especially pleasant in the warm months. It was a real treat to have a coffee up here and enjoy the view. I can highly recommend this hidden gem - it's worth finding this somewhat hidden place. Here, every coffee becomes a special experience.

It was an adventure to get here (but enough signage if you're looking for it), which made us feel like we discovered a hidden treasure. Through a clothing store, down a hallway, order in the lobby before you go up the stairs. There are two levels of seating areas, all upstairs. The smaller seating area is up one flight of stairs, the larger seating area is up three more sets of stairs (two standard, one spiral, passes by a family home/shrine and another business on the way). Come for the mini adventure and sense of discovery in this beautiful place, stay for the smoothies.

  • 5/5 Summer C. 1 year ago on Google
fantastic hidden find, it’s literally hidden behind a clothing shop. there is no mention of “old town”, instead look for “pho co”. the interiors are very traditional chinese. i had both the coconut coffee and the egg coffee. both are fabulous. the egg coffee is the best one so far, thick and bitter at the same time. love the decor and furnishings. plenty of seating, if you can access via swirling staircase

One of the best egg coffee I have tasted. This version is less eggy and more coffee flavour. And it comes with a rooftop view of Hoan Kiem lake. The entrance is a bit tricky. You will to walk through a clothing shop and proceed to the rear of the shop to see the entrance. It's very retro.

  • 4/5 Yee Ling L. 1 year ago on Google
Entrance thru a narrow alleyway. Walked past the night before and didn't realise it was there. Have to order before you go to the dining areas. The cafe is split across 4 different levels with a rooftop level. We went to level 2 that has air-conditioning. Nice place to chill out the afternoon with drinks. Limited food options. Egg coffee was nice, not too sweet. Tasted like a caramel dessert.

Tucked inside a Street past a garment shop, there is seating on 2 levels up a fight of stairs. Most people have egg coffee or Vietnamese milk coffee. Very nice and prompt service and atmospheric place to have coffee.
