A must visit if you're in the area of the lake. Accessed via an attractive red wooden bridge, the island temple is home to a number of historic relics. You can't take photos inside the main temple building but fine to do elsewhere. There is an exhibition of photos in front of the temple entrance describing some of it's history. There is also a room featuring two preserved specimens of the rare and almost extinct Sword Lake turtle.

Someone recommended me to visit this place during night & I totally love it. The amount of beautiful lights & scenic beauty at night is amazing. The red aura at bridge will make your photos attractive. There is a small ticket & they does not accept card or any digital payments method. Also, there is no ♿️ accessible parking or ♿️ accessible entrance here.

It cost 15,000 if you’re a student and I think 30,000 as an adult. A really beautiful spot in the middle of the lake, it has a peaceful atmosphere. There’s lots of flowers and a pond to look at with some fish in it. Overall, I would recommend! It’s a quick visit but could also be a nice spot to stop and read or relax. I would also recommend touring around the entire lake itself :)

Ngoc Son Temple is located on a small island on Hoan Kiem Lake in the very center of Hanoi. It's reachable via a small picturesque bridge paying a small fee. Temple is quite ordinary, like many others we saw all over Vietnam, however its position on the lake is so beautiful and that's the reason it's so popular. Come at night as well, when it's beautifully illuminated

Temple is located in the middle of the lake. You need to purchase a ticket to enter for around 30,000d at the time of this post. The view of the lake with the island is great. Its mainly a place for temple with tortoise statues. Not much to it other than the temple and beautiful scenery

That was good to see historical temple. Before you enter, you have to buy tickets. (You can find ticket office easily.) And also, there are some places that you can’t take photos. Anyway, building was beautiful and good place to kill time for 15-30 mins.

An interesting temple and legend from the early times of Vietnam. It is worth a visit and doesn’t take long. This is a great area to visit early in the morning or evening as sitting by the lake side or having a coffee at a nearby cafe is quite nice. I really recommend concentrating your hotel search to this area. The re is much to see and do within an easy walk from here.

Lovely little temple with a cute bridge. It is very small and there's not a great deal to see there however for 30,000 VND per person, it's worth a visit. You'll obviously need to wear shoulder coverings and trousers to (out of respect). Go check it out 😊

Small temple in a small lake, that attracts large crowds. It is a calm and peaceful place - both during the day and at night - but you probably won't need to spend more than 25 minutes here. The small exhibit on the turtles is interesting, but also makes you sad that you can no longer see them here or elsewhere in/around the lake. There is a small fee to actually get to the island, but if you are not wanting to pay even the gates on the mainland and view from the old quarter are good photo spots.

It’s located in the middle of the lake and there is a nice walk bridge to get here. Come in the evening to take some stunning pics. Small ornate temple. Quick 10 minutr visit. Club it with the puppet show and the bus tours that start for nearby. Entry is quite cheap.

This is a historical temple built in the 19th century and honors Taoism, Confucianism and Tahn Tran worship. It looks small but the islet houses 3 temple altars inside, a mini museum of 2 giant turtles that lived in the lake before, a small koi pond and several giant banyan trees. You can learn so much about the Vietnamese religions here. There is s fee of 50k ($2) to get inside.

Admission 30,000 VND I went around 9am and it was very quiet. I recommend going earlier in the day for a peaceful atmosphere. It is not big, but has some interesting signs (for example, about the turtles living in the lake).

Very small and therefore doesn’t take long to walk around. Interesting and beautiful decor, although you can see some of the original elements have long since been replaced. A cute place to visit if you’re in the area, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go again.

If you are strolling around Hoàn Kiếm Lake, I would recommend to visit this temple if you’re a foreigner. Entry ticket was 30,000 VND in 2023. The only temple or museum that you can visit around the lake. Might as well see it. I would recommend visiting this temple around 5 PM as it is closed at 6 PM. The weather is good around that hour. There was a fruit / drink stall inside if you need to recharge your fluid. You could take a photo in the red bridge with a good view of the lake inside here.

(Translated by Google) Ngoc Son Temple Ngoc Son Temple is a temple located on the Ngoc Island of Hoan Kiem Lake, Hanoi, and Ngoc Son Temple is a prominent sight of Hoan Kiem Lake. This temple was built on the foundation of the Thuy Giang palace (seventeenth century) built in the old strip of land called Ngoc Island, where the lord's house goes out to cool in summer. Introducing Ngoc Son Temple History The present temple was built in the 19th century. At first it was called Ngoc Son pagoda (Nho: 玉山), later it was renamed as Ngoc Son temple because the temple only worshiped the god Van Xuong De Quan, the star of literature. elected and worshiped Tran Hung Dao, a hero who was able to destroy the Nguyen army in the 13th century. Originally, when King Ly Thai To moved the capital to Thang Long, the temple was named Ngoc Tuong, and in the Tran dynasty it was renamed Ngoc Son. In the Tran dynasty, the temple was dedicated to the heroic martyrs who died during the war against Nguyen-Mong. After a long time that temple collapsed. By the Le Dynasty (1735-1739), Trinh Giang, Trinh Giang built the Thuy Khanh palace and built two earthy mountains on the east bank opposite Ngoc Son called Dao Tai and Ngoc Boi. At the end of Le dynasty, Thuy Khanh palace was destroyed by Le Chieu Thong. A philanthropist named Tin Trai, on the basis of the old palace, established a pagoda called Ngoc Son Pagoda. The article "Ngoc Son Emperor Temple" was compiled in 1843 at the time of repairing Quan De temple to Ngoc Son pagoda, it said: "... Ho Ta Vong, the old name, called Hoan Kiem lake is an ancient land beauty spot. In the north of the lake, a mound of earth rose about three or four sao, which is said to be the fishing station in the late Le dynasty. is Ngoc Son pagoda ... ". A few years later, the pagoda gave up to a charity and changed it to Tam Thanh temple. This association removed the bell tower, rebuilt the main pavilions, the two side suites, placed the statue of Van Xuong De Quan to worship and renamed it Ngoc Son Temple. According to the article "Reworking Van Xuong Temple", then "... At present, the new temple has been completed, the front side is next to the water, making Tran Ba communal house, implying a standing pillar standing in the cultural wave. on the east side of The Huc bridge, building Dai Nghien. Back to the east on Doc Ton mountain, building Thap But, representing the culture ... In the eighteenth year of Tu Duc (1865), the scholar Nguyen Van Sieu stepped out to repair the temple. The new temple has repaired and added land and built stone embankments around it, built Tran Ba communal house, built a bridge from the East bank into it called The Huc bridge.

An incredible place with the atmosphere of Vietnam. I was at that time when it rained in the morning there was fog and it was unique. I was also when the place was illuminated with night lights and it also caused delight. I don’t know about the people of Vietnam, but for me this place was stuck in my memory) Mandarin trees, pomelo offerings, trees hanging by the water, splashing fish near them, incense in the temple. Cảm ơn việt nam!

Easy to visit. The tickets were 30,000 VND which is about £1.20 and this allow you to go on the red bridge and into the temple. It's quite small so only takes roughly 10-15 minutes to walk around depending on how long you take photos for. We visited around 16:30 on Sunday, 1 January 2023. It was pretty busy and tough to get a photo without someone behind you but as it was so small people moved on quickly and if you waited it out you could get one. Directly before the bridge there were some nice painted sculptures which were free to walk around and offered a good photo opportunity. You could also get a better photo of the bridge from the side of the lake so I don't think it's a must visit but it's so cheap we thought we'd take a look.

This place is not for free! It costs 30.000 per adult and 15.000 per child. But generally it is a nice place at the lake, I can recommend if you want to step out of Old Town for a moment and catch a breath. It can be quite crowded so you should check from the lake shore. Also they have two large preserved turtles that were living in the sea.

An interesting temple. There’s some beautiful views of the lake from this temple area. I saw a lot of people taking pictures of the lake inside the temple complex. There are some interesting exhibits and fish as well. The price is vnd 30,000. And for the view alone, it's not a bad place to go for 15 minutes.

If you're around the lake, this spot is a must-visit. Accessible through a charming red wooden bridge, the island temple houses numerous historical relics. Inside the main temple building, photography isn't permitted, but it's allowed elsewhere on the premises. An exhibit in front of the temple entrance showcases its history through photos. Additionally, a room displays two preserved specimens of the rare and nearly extinct Sword Lake turtle.

This is a really neat historic temple. You can expect to spend about 20-30 minutes here as the temple is rather small and intimate. The temple is also very well known for the two large turtles that have been taxidermy and are on display in two large cases.

I had been to Hanoi several times before finally visiting this temple. The temple itself is small, but nice, and there is a lovely gentleman inside who will do a calligraphy scroll for you for 200,000 dong. He has a book full of things for you to choose from. A nice break from the hustle and bustle of the Old Quarter.

Lakes very green and there is a red bridge. There are like giant turtles on display like something out of Jurassic park they are huge. There are some shots here if the weathers right. On the platform out to the whole lake. Which is rather nice if the weathers nice. Could go there and pray. Such places always have a sense of peace and calm for me.

Floating on Hoan Kiem Lake, it doesn’t take too much time at all but is relaxing. Crossing the red bridge was a highlight itself. Even though tourists flock the area, I find it peaceful and you can be one in nature. I really liked the fact that the stories about the temple, the tortoise and the sword was also written in English. This story also show at Runningman, a Korean reality show.

I visited the temple on a foggy early morning in December few years back. Crossing the red bridge was a highlight itself. A Relaxing spiritual temple in the middle of Hoàn Kiếm Lake. Even at night, this place is magical. The fragrance of the incense stick is very peaceful. This place set the mood for me for my entire day and it strongly stuck in my memories.

This is a wonderful look into Vietnamese history of folklore and legend. We I love is this legend was supported with a real turtle and sword. People were actively making offerings so the site has religious significance. To a tourist this was wonderful.

Picturesque but nothing really special for someone not in the same belief.

I loved this temple although it is very busy over the weekend. It is a nice part of hiking around the lake. The turtles and their story are very interesting and you learn a lot about the Vietnamese culture and values.

It's a small temple but beautiful and well maintained. Lots of tourist. Currently, there is a renovation at the main entrance of the temple. Take note to enter the temple from the side door next to the restrooms. Entrance fee is VND30,000 for adults. Kids under x age is free entry. I can't remember the age.

They have a ticket counter right at the entrance. If you do not go deep inside the temple, there is no need to buy a ticket. You can go to the bridge and enjoy the view. But if you want to visit the temple, you need to buy a ticket.

Beautiful temple! Must visit! Also take a walk around the lake. And if possible, stay till after sundown when the little temple gets lit up. Nice place for an evening stroll or just to sit by the lake on the benches. Went there during August, so was a bit rainy, but still a great experience!

Nice little temple with admission tickets of 30k for adults and 15k for students. Make sure not to miss the 2 turtles on the side building and their interesting story.

Beautiful and peaceful little temple in the middle of the lake, cross the red bridge to get there. This is also very beautiful at night to see, the red bridge is all lit up. Also, there are some beautiful bonsai plants at the temple. You need to purchase a ticket to visit the temple, it’s well worth it.

Small temple in the middle of the sword lake, only 30.000d to get in, pretty good spot in the centre of town. Only bad points are the rats on the island, and the usual instagram bores treating the bridge like their own private photo studio.

Standard Temple, not allowed to take photos inside which is absolutely fair as it is a place of worship! Nice view, only took less than 5 minutes to see it all, 30,000 Dong entrance per person. The bridge over is nice.

An ideal park right in the middle of town, it serves as a cultural and religious centre for the area around the French Quarter. It has a nice bridge connecting the centre of the lake to the bank. There is a small entrance fee at the gate. You can walk to the island across the bridge and spend some time around the temple complex there.

Children will enjoy visiting this palace. My youngster really enjoys this location, which helps them learn more about our past. Weekends are fairly busy, but it's fine. Because they were under 14, my youngster didn't need to purchase a railway ticket!

It is located near the old quarter of Hanoi. It is situated on the lake which has a small temple in the center and a bridge connecting to the main point. There is a price tag for the entering bridge and temple, which is 30k for normal and 15k for students. Photography is not allowed to take place in the temple and usually takes 15 minutes to explore the temple and bridge. It is better to visit here in the evening or at night to see the whole area in the view of the light. It is one of the best places to relax near the lake.

Temple is located in the middle of the lake. You need to purchase a ticket to enter for around 30,000d at the time of this post. The view of the lake with the island is great. Its mainly a place for temple with tortoise statues. Not much to it other than the temple and beautiful scenery

  • 3/5 Steven M. 9 months ago on Google
The temple itself is beautiful, great views from here and the turtles are cool. Would be higher rated if not for below. Warning: The woman at the ticket booth will short change you if you're not careful. She tried to give me 10k dong change instead of 100k dong. When I realised, I went back to challenge her and she said she was sorry she "miscounted". From reading other reviews, this seems to be a regular occurrence!

i went there both daytime and nighttime. the temple is beautiful enclosed by water and there’s a bridge to get there. a single ticket costs 30K dong but there’s not really a lot of things to see.

Nice temple in the middle of the Hanoi tourist area. It is really beautiful with different colors so better to view it during the day! There is a small entrance fee of 30K dong. Come early morning cause it can get really crowded later during the evening so that you can take photos!

Beautiful temple in the middle of Hanoi busy old quarter area. You can walk around the lake and end the walk with a visit to the temple. Inside you can learn about the legend of the Hanoi sacred giant turtle. There a life-size replica of the turtle inside.

Beautiful temple on Hoan Kiem lake. Tickets can be purchased at the office just in front of the bridge to the temple. The has some nice murals and gates, plus a nice indoor temple area. You can also get great views of the lake here, especially from the beautiful bridge that leads to the temple. There is a small gift shop and cafe around the back side of the temple

  • 4/5 Wesley W. 6 months ago on Google
Situated at the heart of Hoan Kiem Lake, this modest historical temple catches the eye. While the temple itself is petite, its uniqueness lies in the well-preserved remains of two massive turtles. It's truly remarkable to encounter such an extraordinary sight within this historical setting. The temple's walls also feature narratives about the turtles, adding to the intrigue. The picturesque bridge outside offers a beautiful and Instagram-worthy backdrop. Keep in mind that there's a nominal entrance fee for this compact yet captivating site, which is reasonably priced.

Small and active Temple in the middle of the Lake. Before accessing you need to buy a Ticket for a small fee. You Access the temple with the Red Bridge and we spent around 35 mins exploring the Island. Dont Wear Short skirts or shoulderless Tops, because this Could prevent you from getting Access to the place.

Ngoc Son Temple in Hanoi, Vietnam is a cultural treasure that beautifully encapsulates the rich history and spiritual significance of this vibrant city. During our visit, we were particularly enchanted by the fascinating story of the sacred tortoise residing within the temple grounds. The temple is perched on a small island in the picturesque Hoan Kiem Lake, creating a serene and tranquil oasis within the bustling heart of Hanoi. It's connected to the mainland by the iconic red Huc Bridge, which adds to the temple's charm. Ngoc Son Temple, also known as the "Temple of the Jade Mountain," has a history dating back several centuries, and it's dedicated to several important figures in Vietnamese history, including the scholar Van Xuong and the national hero, General Tran Hung Dao. The most intriguing aspect of the temple visit is the legendary tale of the sacred tortoise. According to local lore, a massive tortoise inhabited the lake, and it was believed to be the guardian of a magical sword that Emperor Le Loi received from the Dragon King. This sword played a pivotal role in Vietnam's fight for independence against the Chinese. The story adds a layer of mystique and reverence to the temple, and it's heartwarming to see the preserved tortoise specimen displayed within the temple complex. Visiting Ngoc Son Temple is a captivating experience. The temple opens its doors to visitors from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, allowing ample time to explore its ornate architecture, intricate carvings, and the serene garden that provides a lovely escape from the city's hustle and bustle. The entrance fee is reasonable at 30,000 VND per person, making it accessible to all visitors. In conclusion, a visit to Ngoc Son Temple is a journey through Vietnamese history and spirituality, with the added enchantment of the sacred tortoise's legend. It offers a peaceful retreat and a glimpse into the traditions and culture of Hanoi. The modest entrance fee is well worth the experience, and I highly recommend including Ngoc Son Temple on your itinerary when exploring the vibrant city of Hanoi.
