Fantastic tour through the city! Truly free, our amazing tour guide didn't want to accept tips. Book in advance and don't show up without booking. Bring water, sunscreen, an umbrella if you can, and something to cover your shoulders and knees.

We booked two tours with Hanoi free tours. On the first one - the street food of Hanoi, spent a brilliant evening with our student guide Yen.She not only showed us how and where and what food to eat in the old quarter but we also learnt about her family and her culture. All for about 500000d. On the second morning we met up with Mai, and had and equally fascinating historical tour of the old quarter including the White horse temple, the oldest temple in Hanoi. We really loved meeting both of these lovely ladies and getting to know a bit more about Hanoi but even more about their lives. Thank you Mai and Yen.

A Vietnamese friend told me about Hanoi Free Walking Tours before we went to Vietnam, most tour guides are College students who are trained by the group and these students also want to practice speaking in English thru the tours. We booked for 2 tours, the War sites Walking Tour and the Street Food Walking Tour. Mr. Chien and Alex ( his english name) a College student for the 1st tour, and Robin ( his english name) also a College student for the 2nd tour, but for the 2nd tour we invited Alex to also join us because both students were of the same age level as my son, it was a pleasant experience to tour around Hanoi with them. They are both knowledgeable, very friendly and polite. They speak good english too. We did not only learned many things from them but we gained new friends in Vietnam and we hope to be back and will surely book other tours with this group again. After the tour I was looking for a hand sanitizer but we were not able to find one on our way back to the hotel with the student guides, after few hours the hotel staff came to our room with 2 bottles of hand sanitizer and told me it was given by the student guide Robin and he even gave my son a pack of Vietnamese Coffee. Alex gave my son a wooden beads bracelet, they were so thoughtful. 😊 By the way, the tour guides are for free, but you can give gifts or tip, we packed a gift for each student and gave them tips because they deserved it. You need to pay the entrance fee of Museums or other sites that requires entrance fee payment and for every food that you ordered. We really don't mind paying for these things because the students gave their time to accomodate us.

It's my great opportunity to be a member of Hanoi Free Walking Tours which is a non-profit organization run by students in Hanoi. So far, I have developed my English skills, met friends from different countries and had great time with them. The tours are completely FREE, we do not charge tourists anything, and for sure we enjoy the time with international friends. If you want to have great experiences in Hanoi, Hanoi Free Walking Tours, we'd love to walk with you.

It is the most wonderful experience with Hanoi Free Walking Tours. Students guides will be very nice and enthusiastic to foreign friends. They are eager to share with you about history, culture and daily life in Vietnam. Students also have chances to practices English and communicate with foreigners. Try!

Highly recommend. We did the Old Quarter/French tour with Dino and on another day we did the War Sites with Lena. Both girls had a wide range of knowledge and were super energetic. The tour is for free but we we tipped each time for the great service

I had the most lovely free walking tour of the Old Quarter with Tam. I couldn’t believe this tour was free! We spent three hours touring the Old Quarter, visiting historical landmarks and spending some quiet time by the lake. I learned so much about Vietnamese culture. Tam was so sweet, warm and hospitable. She taught me so much. I highly recommend Hanoi Free Walking Tour!

I took the Old Quarter tour by Hanoi Free Walking Tours, guided by the lovely uni students Thu Huyen and Hai Minh, they explained the nuances of their culture and always up for a conversation regarding anything I asked. It was a great experience and later ended up signing up for the War Site and Mausoleum tour If you're in Hanoi and love walking and strolling this incredible city, this should be somewhere top in your list!

I used hanoi's free walking tour 4 times on my recent trip. They were all so very friendly. we had 2 group trips and 2 solo trips. The one on one trips was good as i felt i had my own personal friend in Hanoi to show me their city. Special shout out to Lynn, Khai, Phoebe May and not forgetting Minh. Even if it states its a FREE walking tour, i practice to give at least US$5 to help them cover their time and transport. Its a small price to pay, so lets not get cheap on them, they really do an amazing job at making us feel at home! Strongly recommended to anyone that goes to Hanoi.

I joined them twice for the food tour at night and for the day tour the next day. Both were great experiences. Linh and Đức are experienced guides, that have loads of info about the local culture, foods and places to share. Their English was very good and is was also great to get some insights on the upcoming Tet holiday. Plus they were able to engage the guests in their authentic own ways. HFWT was also very flexible when I booked the day tour as they were willing to give a private tour. So I can definitely recommend them.

Had a great informative walking tour of the Old Town with Phoebe in English. She was very helpful, friendly and recommended places to eat and go for coffee. Would highly recommend if you enjoy walking tours. It's just a shame I didn't get chance to do any of the other tours they offer

Definitely recommend this company. Really responsive when I tried to book myself two fairly last minute tours! Evening food tour with Thuy around the Old Quarter and got to try lots of different things. The tour is free but you buy your food and your guide's food. Great to try the spots a local would eat at as there is so much choice it's hard to know which ones are the best. Morning walking tour around old and French quarters. Son was my guide and he was so polite and very enthusiastic. Taught me lots and it's nice to reciprocate by helping him practice his English and teaching him things back! Again, it's free but I did give him a tip because he was lovely, it was informative and he was a student so it's nice to give them some income. Both guides were students, practicing English and very proud of their country. Also willing to talk about their background and shed some light on the Vietnamese culture too which is interesting.

We took a walking tour from Khai for the Old Quarter and French Quarter of Hanoi. He was AMAZING. So knowledgeable and passionate about the city he loves. He was happy to answer any questions. We were taught so much history and information about the beautiful city of Hanoi. Even after the tour we reached out to him again with questions and some recommendations and he was wonderful. Quickly responding and sending not just 1-2 but 5 recommendations with google maps to make sure we could find the places. We were so grateful. 100% recommend!

We absolutely loved both our Old Quarter walking tour with Stella and our delicious food tour with Minh. We instantly felt like we were simply hanging out with friends while learning about not only the local dishes but the extraordinary history this area has to offer! We highly recommend them and will definitely by doing more tours with them next time we are back in Hanoi.

We took a free walking tour on an afternoon with our guide Stella. It was a great couple of hours.. though we stayed in old quarters and Vietnam for some time, we learned a lot on this trip. I would recommend for everyone visiting Hanoi

Helen expertly guided us around the Old Quarter showcasing delicious food that we otherwise wouldn't have tried. Brilliant tour with a brilliant guide!

The tours are poorly organized. They are not formal at confirming anything and they re-directed you with so many people making things confusing. The tour itself was terrible, poor English and boring details that were not useful or informative.

Our tour guides were really nice, gave us good tips. One spoke really good English. The other one was just learning but told us something about history of the places we went to.

I went on a Food Tour with Rosie. We went out for a vegetarian lunch buffet at a place called the Veggie Castle. The best vegetarian food I have had in Hanoi. After lunch we walked around the Old Quarter and then went for a cup of coffee and dessert at the Highlander. We had a discussion about food and life in Vietnam and about our families. She set up my Grab account, which I could not do as Grab would not accept my US email account, so she used her email account. I had a great time with Rosie, she spoke English well, and she was fun to be with. I would highly recommend her as a tour guide.

This is a must do as soon as you arrive in Hanoi to become acquainted with the city!! We had Stella, and she was amazing. It was like walking around with a friend that was knowledgeable about the area. I highly recommend this. Tip your guides well at the end because they are usually university students. 🥰

Had a great experience with our guide Stella. She led us through historic war museum and Hoa Lo prison. She's very knowledgeable about vietnamese history and speaks very good english!
