We took a Halong Bay Tour with an "English Speaking guide" but nothing could be farther from. The advert also says luxury but is far from it. The boat is basic, the food is cheap and not tasty, the staff shout constantly, and all in all it feels like they are carrying cattle not people. We paid 55usd per person for a day activity but it feels really overpriced. The staff give you drinks with lunch, don't tell you it's at an additional cost and then come and shout at you and tell you they will call the police if you don't pay. This is after you paid 55usd for a very very basic activity. I would recommend people to look for quality providers and shop around before committing to a boat tour that would be way below your expectations.

My wife and I traveled to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos and retained the services of Tonkin Travel. We were delighted with the trip and their services, all their guides and drivers were knowledgeable, friendly and eager to assist in any way they could . We were able to have a private car and guide for less than a group tour would have cost with a U.S. company.

We absolutely loved this tour, and can't recommend it enough . We went on a day excursion from Hanoi to Halong Bay. So we were picked up at our hotel in the old quarter, Phong was a great guide, and gave us lots of interesting facts along the way. Firstly went to the Pearl Centre , then onto the boat to cruise round Halong bay, we cruised round a bit and then docked , you could hike up to a view point and/ or swim in the bay depending on how quickly you could get up and down to the view point. Then we were back on board for lunch- which was prepared fresh with a buffer like style - lots of freshly cooked seafood, fish , chicken , rice - there were lots of plates with different offerings, even gave us a chance to sample things we haven't tried. Then we offered to either kayak or go on a rowed boat through a cave opening into a bay. We opted for the rowed version, so it gave us an opportunity to take in our surroundings and take photos. Then up to the surprising cave system which we walked through and there are some really good view points and stalagmites and stalactites inside. The cave is quite open and large, just in case anyone has any concerns. Then back on the boat for some snacks. It is a long day but it is so amazing and worth every penny . Thank you .

Selecting Tonkin Travel to handle a customized, private tour for our group of three (ages 70, 68 and 62) was the best decision we ever made! Tonkin Travel, especially travel consultant Hanh Pham, did everything – and I mean everything – to make our Vietnam experience pleasant, comforting and comfortable. From the initial planning to the implementation of our 10-day tour in early March, Hanh impressed us with her professionalism, reliability, friendliness and unfailing kindness. She responded to our questions and concerns promptly throughout our dealings with her (we wondered if she ever slept!) which did a lot to make us feel taken care of throughout our hectic tour from northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Ninh Binh), to central Vietnam (Da Nang, Hoi An), and finally, south Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh city). Hanh’s kindness really shone through when the three of us unfortunately caught Covid and experienced the peak of symptoms in the middle of our tour. Being in strange environs and uncertain about how to handle things, we reached out to Hanh who sprang quickly to assist us, referring us to professional health services while remaining accessible to our numerous requests for information. She also did not hesitate to shift gears at a moment’s notice a couple of times to accommodate requests to make adjustments to the tour schedule to allow those of us who had recovered sooner to salvage what we could of the tour. Hanh clearly went out of her way and was practically a lifeline for us during a difficult time. Our memories of beautiful Vietnam are capped by our lovely memories of Hanh and the tour company she represents.

Tonkin Travel organised us (4 people) a wonderful tour of Vietnam and Cambodia over a period of 3 fantastic weeks. They were professional in every way. Our safety was paramount and nothing was too much trouble for them. We travelled in luxury, had wonderful guides, accomodation was first class and their planning was superb. I recommend this Company to all who want to plan a trip to Vietnam through a Vietnamese Travel Company. What an amazing Holiday. Cannot speak highly enough of the organisation of our trip. We were in Vietnam and Cambodia for 20 days and all was organised with Tonkin Travel. Our Guides were all extremely knowledgeable, very courteous and polite. I am 76 and have some mobility problems. Their care and concern for me was wonderful. Tonkin Travel organized a trip to Bai Tu Long Bay, further north of Halong Bay with Renea Cruise. I received very good support by Mr. Quan Nguyen. We felt very happy with our choice, both with Tonkin and Renea Cruise. Nice and cosy boat with wooden style, comfortable cabin. The whole crew was very friendly, Duc took care of us two days, he was funny, very engaged and helpful. The meals were absolutely great !
