I think it's important to come here with a tour guide if you are not familiar with the area or the customs. My guide was able to explain details I never would have known, and walked me through parts I wouldn't have probably tried to visit in my own (even though I am pretty sure they were accessible to the public). There is some signage in English, but hearing the stories from a local is much more valuable and interesting.

Co Loa is a special heritage site of national significance, which is located in Dong Anh Distris, 17 km North of Hanoi City. It is also a cultural and spiritual tourist site and a must-see destination for domestic and foreign visitors alike. Co Loa was the imperial city of Au Lac Kingdom (3rd century BC), and its largest political, economic, cultural and military center during the period of its founding. Co Loa resumed its role in 938 when Ngô Quyên defeated the Southern Han troops on the Bach Dang River, re-gained independence for the country and set up the capital here. The Co Loa citadel, serving as the capital of the Au Lac Kingdom during An Dong Vuong's reign, as well as the capital under Ngo Quyen's ruler, present evidence and has become a history - cali relic. Archeologists consider Co Loa Citadel the most citadel with the largest size, and largest scale, most unique architectural design of its kind in Vietnam's history of citadel construction" Co Loa Citadel is closely connected with the remarkable legends telling how King An Duong Vuong established his kingdom, constructed the Citadel, and received a magic crossbow from a golden turtle, which was capable of killing hundreds of invaders at a time; and the legend of the sorrowful love story between My Chou (Hung King's daughter) and Trong Thuy, etc. They mark a pathetic page in the ancient history of Viet Nam. Over the centuries, Co Loa has developed into a populous area, abundant in historical, cultural, architectural, artistic, archaeological and historical revolutionary relics. In addition, Co Loa also keeps many customs, traditions, religions, rituals and folk festivals imbued with tangible and intangible cultural values. They have turned the site into a historical and cultural treasure trove. Entrance of price ticket is 10k vnđ/one🔓

(Translated by Google) So beautiful. It's just walking at the wrong time..so can't go inside. Lunch break. Ask the people there at opening hours without anyone knowing. Regret. Should ride a motorbike to go all. Wide spread. The memory of meeting a very cute brother. (Original) Rất là đẹp. Chỉ là đi không đúng thời gian..nên không có vào trong được. Giờ nghỉ trưa. This temple is beautiful, you can see more of it within 15 minutes but has a largish lake outside and has a toilet out back. Tickets were 30.000 each and you can get there using the grab app, but asking the driver to stay is a wise idea because getting back can be difficult. Overall it's very peaceful and worth adding to your list when traveling too Hanoi.

Just a quiet old citadel. Not much to see except a good walk around the lake in the feeling of historical old place. Maybe it's crowdy only at festival time, rest of the year is quiet.

Visiting the citadel was so interesting and fun, but it definitely requires some preparation. Some helpful tips: 1. You want to start your journey at the museum! Everything else will make more sense this way! The museum was about one block east of where our gps took us. You'll want to search for "Bảo Tàng Trưng Bày Cổ Vật Thành Cổ Loa" in Google maps. (See photo of map) 2. We bought the guidebook with our tickets and it was informative and worth it, as far as history went, but it didn't have any sort of clear map in it, so you'll need to rely heavily on signage. There are numerous partial maps throughout the premises, the only full map is in front of the museum (and is photographed in this review). 3. I listened to an episode of the podcast The Ancients called "The Origins of Ancient Vietnam" before going and I'm SOOOO glad I did! It helped the story of the place all come together. 4. Since the ancient citadel was so large, you can't actually see it all at this one location. We traveled by Grab so we were only able to see the portions that are within walking distance. It might be worth researching other parts of the citadel wall and making multiple stops. 5. Be prepared to rely heavily on Google translate if you plan to communicate with anyone and you don't speak Vietnamese. All that being said, we loved coming here! Some highlights for me were: the intricate historical steel drum, all the artifacts in the museum, the lake, and getting to wander and discover all the different parts of this historical spot.

It was a reasonable hotel in Lạng Sơn city. But it is a bit far away from city center. The kitchen wasn't very good, it was dirty. It is near the mountain, the receptionist can speak English well. She was very helpful and friendly.

Cổ Loa fortified citadel with An Dương Vương Temple was built in the 3rd century and located about 20 km from Hanoi. It was a ancient capital of Âu Lạc Kingdom - a first political center of Vietnamese nation. A whole fortified system has a coverage of 600 hectares.

10000 vnd for ticket, one ticket for all venues within the monument. The monument is quite small, architecture is very typical for Northern village so not very impressive. The status of pricess Mị Châu is a bit scary but the story is very interesting. Should hire a local tour guide (ask at ticket booth)

Learnt a lot more from the complex after visiting this place having years of story read from primary school. This site area is typical North Vietnam traditional village with a Banyan tree, a temple and a pond in front of it.

Interesting historical site in Vietnam! Worth visiting if you have some extra time in Hanoi and you are interested in history and learning more about ancient vietnam. This is not a very touristy site and the signage is not great - but definitely a place you can explore by yourself! (Follow the map) There are two sections to explore - slightly down the road from each other. I was a little disappointed that there were not actual ruins to see but the museum is filled with fascinating artifacts! You should take a grab there (20 - 30 mins from old quarters) and if possible ask your driver to wait for you so that you have a ride back into the city! You can probably finish walking around in 1.5 hours.

About 30km away from Hanoi's center, my friend and I took a grab car for 350,000vnd, round trips. 10,000vnd for the entrance ticket to the Citadel. Nothing much to see in terms of historic marks, but I appreciated its peaceful environment. You can check out the museum there, it's quite quiet so it's like having the whole space just for yourself. If you love a dynamic atmosphere, then visit this place on the 5th and 6th of January (Luna Calendar), the village will hold some annual traditional ceremonies(I read this piece of info in the museum, make sure to call and confirm the info before planning your trip)

Hiền and her family too great care of us while staying at their house. We had a medical issue she helped us with. Her English is quite good. Her mother made several meals for us and their hospitality was superb. We ended up staying about 5 days and had a nice time. Would highly recommend for anyone in the area to stay here.

(Translated by Google) Tickets 10k / person, motorbike parking at 2 points (An Duong Vuong temple and My Chau temple), each point 5k, the distance 2 points is not too far so you can walk. The historic place is worth a visit. However, there are only 2 worship areas, there is no guide to the ancient city walls, so I'm sorry. It is about 30 minutes from Hanoi by car, so if you have time, you can visit, although the point to visit and the records, historical traces are not much.
