The first Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 is said to have bugled from this place on. From the Indian Rebellion against the Britishers till date this holy Temple has witnessed it all. This shrine attracts millions of visitors every year, especially on ShivaRatri. The Kanwariyas pour Ganga Jal on Shiva Linga situated inside the Garbh Graha. There are three main temples in the premises - One of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, other of Shree Krishna and Radha ji and the third of Durga Mata. The walls have been beautifully sculptured with authentic Indian tradition showcasing the rich history of Hindu Mythology. Inside the Krishna Temple the four main Teerthas ( Shrines) can be seen. Locals rever to this place as the most authentic and ancient holy Temple of Lord Shiva in the region. Supposedly this place also has links to Ramayana, Meerut being the birthplace of Mandodri, the queen wife of Ravana, who himself was also a great Shiva Bhakt. This place is a must visit, when in Meerut.

This is one of the most famous tourist spots in Meerut. One of the biggest temple in the city. This is the origin of 1857 revolt also. You will find shivling, Lord Krishna and Durga idols here. The architecture of the the the temple is finest and done on the marble. At the entry gate you will get the free shoes stand. At the main gate there are many lotas there which you can use to give jal to God.

Situated in the cantt area.Neat and clean well maintained temple dedicated to Bhagwan Shiv and others. The temple is proudly associated with our first freedom movement of 1857. The freedom fighters of that era used to meet here secretly and fought with Britishers for independence of India

Most popular and famous temple of meerut... History of the temple Shri Baba Augharnath Shiv Mandir is an ancient faith in Meerut city. Self-made Shivaling in the temple is fruitful and fulfills the desires. For this reason, its name was named Oghadnath Shiva Temple. During the colonial period, the Indian army had a black palltan. It is located in the inner space area. The database of this establishment was the AS of Janshruti, this temple was the initial spot of fame before 1857. Many chiefs of the Marathas used to enter Mentorya before the Peshwa. In the role of India's first freedom struggle (1857), this temple has a prominent place. Due to the peaceful environment suitable for security and secrecy, the British established the army’s training center here. Due to the proximity of the Indian platoons, many freedom fighters used to come, stay and do secret consultations with the officers of the Indian platoons in this temple. In these, the elephant Baba used to have a special place. It is said that he was Dhudhapant Nana Saheb. The soldiers of the army were used to drinking water at the well located in the courtyard of the temple. The arrival of new cartridges of guns in 1856 also became the main reason for the first independence movement. Before using these cartridges, the mouth was opened, in which the fat of the cow was kept, due to which the then priest of the temple refused to give water to the army soldiers. Therefore, before the scheduled 31 May, the soldiers of the agitated army sounded the trumpet of revolution against the British on 10 May 1857.

It's a temple specialy dedicated to Lord shiva parvati, but also has temples of Lord krishna and other Lords inside premises. It is a mesmerising view to see . A perfect spot for meditation and for positive energy out of the chaos of daily life. This temple is also known as kali paltan due to its historic significance as the first war of independence of 1857 started from this very place, now a monument stands over that well where the Britishers throw the dead body of martyr indian soldiers.

One of the most famous tourist attractions of the city, the temple's existence can be traced back to the time of revolt of 1857 making an important historical mark for the land where it all started from, most people say it is the point where for the very first time soldiers started a rebellion against the whites. Do visit this place inside the Meerut cantonment area.

We went to seek blessings of lord shiva. An interesting place which not only has religious significance but historical importance as well, Augarnath Temple is an important place to see in Meerut. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this Hindu temple is located in the Cantonment area of the city and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Meerut. It is the place where the great revolt of India’s independence in 1857 started. The history of this temple in Meerut is little known. However, it is said that at this temple, the Maratha rulers used to perform the pilgrimage on auspicious occasions making it a significant place of worship in the city. The temple complex also includes a memorial which is built to commemorate the martyrs of the Independence War of 1857.

A very old and renowned Shiv and Parvati temple of meerut famous for its historic value. The revolt of 1857 was started from here and a memorial of the same has been made here also. A very clean and beautiful temple, an environment where you may feel inner peace. A very spacious temple in which kathas and bhandaras are being organised from time to time. Very crowded during kavad Mela due to Shivratri jal arpan.

Good place to visit, but the responsible people over there are very rude. The place was not open at the time we visited but they did not even let us inside the temple. I don't think they should have the right to do so.

A very well organised temple. Darshan is soothing. However, trust should work on premises outside the temple. The barren land on the right of temple can be utilised to make organised parking and May be organised to collect revenues. Vendors can be organised as well in the area of parking to facilitate traffic in the MH road.
