Harar
has
a
dearth
of
affordably
priced
accommodation.
Unlike
the
rest
of
Ethiopia,
Harar
is
more
aggressive
in
its
touts
and
hustling,
which
makes
finding
honest
accommodation
a
challenge.
Sumeya
Hotel
may
be
a
bit
more
expensive
than
the
typical
budget
option
in
Ethiopia,
but
comes
with
some
wonderful
perks.
First,
the
complementary
breakfast
is
wonderful;
and
although
we
did
not
eat
here
for
any
other
meals,
I
would
have
the
utmost
confidence
in
the
quality
of
meals
for
lunch
and
dinner.
For
breakfast,
you
have
the
choice
of
an
omelette,
fatira,
or
chechebsa.
I'm
sure
the
kitchen
would
accommodate
any
other
breakfast
suggestions
as
well,
especially
local
breakfast
dishes.
Second,
the
WiFi
is
quite
good,
considering
that
decent
internet
across
Ethiopia
is
difficult
to
come
by.
If
you
want
strong
internet
in
your
room,
be
sure
to
ask
for
a
room
closer
to
the
stairwell
(each
floor's
router
is
located
near
the
stairs).
Finally
and
definitely
the
highlight,
is
the
hospitality
of
the
staff.
Ahmed
Eid,
the
nephew
of
the
owner,
will
likely
be
the
staff
member
who
engages
with
any
foreign
guest.
During
our
three
days
in
Harar,
he
guided
us
everyday,
free
of
charge,
including
organizing
the
evening
Hyena-feeding
excursion
that
everyone
partakes
in.
He
will
make
sure
that
you
don't
get
ripped-off.
My
partner
and
I
felt
very
well
cared
for
in
Harar,
solely
due
to
the
hospitality
of
Ahmed.
