Booked for 2 nights for our group of 3. The location is perfect, and in a quiet neighborhood, there are many interesting restaurants and cafes near the hotel. However, the price is really affordable plus it comes with a simple breakfast that was included in room price. The stuff was very nice and helpful and i love the concept of this place! All of us enjoyed our stay in the hotel and I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a basic, clean, and breakfast inclusive room for your Harar trip!

This was the worst hotel experience I had in my life unfortunately. There is no shampoo in the rooms and really bad smell coming from the closet. Wifi signal is pretty low in the most of the hotel, we had two rooms and both didn't have a good signal. They claim that it's a new hotel but from sheets to towels, everything is old and ugly. They charge a hotel price but the place doesn't deserve even to be a motel The owner is such a rude guy and as soon as he got the money, he changed his words and put us in a big trouble. If you are looking to ruin your trip to Harar, this is a great place for you, otherwise stay away from these liars.

Sumeya is in the new part of the Harar City and is a decent place to stay. As being told by the owner, it is the best place to stay albeit a 3-star hotel. You won’t find amenities inside the room except soap, a pair of slippers and towel. You could get a double bed for 800-1200 ETB. I was disappointed by lack of staff (probably due to COVID), unsatisfactory breakfast and mosquitoes. But the manager (Ahmed) was a nice person and would arrange things for you if asked.

There is no Elevator. The break fast is not what you would expect form such a place. The employees of the hotel are very helpful. The rooms are impressively perfect and clean with all the options working fine. Personally, i love how they treat people specially reception area. So, i say it can compensate all it's lacks.

We stayed here one night before we headed to a guest house in the old town. The location is absolute perfection. It’s close to the bus, restaurants and near the old city. The rooms have comfortable beds and good bathrooms, it’s clearly a new hotel. Everyone loves to give Ahmed a good review. He does speak great English, is from Harar and was very eager to give us a tour. We enjoyed our time with him but I will say that I don’t think he offers an affordable tour. The $50/person or $30/person tour seems a little high, and when we asked about hyenas we were told it was 150 birr when it is 100. Obviously it’s not a huge difference, but for someone who positions himself as not in it for the money and giving you the best price it felt a bit sketchy. However, if you have the budget you will probably enjoy having a local guide reducing some hassle and like I said his English is excellent.

Nice clean and quiet hotel. Room was spacious and comfortable. Very conveniently located. One of the supervisors Ahmed made our stay memorable. He not only recommended places to go and eat but accompanied us. What a treat!

Harar has a dearth of affordably priced accommodation. Unlike the rest of Ethiopia, Harar is more aggressive in its touts and hustling, which makes finding honest accommodation a challenge. Sumeya Hotel may be a bit more expensive than the typical budget option in Ethiopia, but comes with some wonderful perks. First, the complementary breakfast is wonderful; and although we did not eat here for any other meals, I would have the utmost confidence in the quality of meals for lunch and dinner. For breakfast, you have the choice of an omelette, fatira, or chechebsa. I'm sure the kitchen would accommodate any other breakfast suggestions as well, especially local breakfast dishes. Second, the WiFi is quite good, considering that decent internet across Ethiopia is difficult to come by. If you want strong internet in your room, be sure to ask for a room closer to the stairwell (each floor's router is located near the stairs). Finally and definitely the highlight, is the hospitality of the staff. Ahmed Eid, the nephew of the owner, will likely be the staff member who engages with any foreign guest. During our three days in Harar, he guided us everyday, free of charge, including organizing the evening Hyena-feeding excursion that everyone partakes in. He will make sure that you don't get ripped-off. My partner and I felt very well cared for in Harar, solely due to the hospitality of Ahmed.

We had a great stay at Sumeya : best location to be (2 min walk to the old city gate), comfortable rooms (and beds), good breakfast and most of it, several options for customised tours in the city and around. The manager, Ahmed, personally took care of us for 2 days, making up an individual tour for us, following our personal needs and requests (we are a couple of photographer/videographer). He knows his city, people and history and he has a deep humanity. We came as customers and we left as friends (with a couple of good jokes in hand ; ) thanks Ahmed!!

The hotel is an absolute disappointment and not worth the money. We moved out after one night. At the reception only unfriendly people, the room was dirty and full of cockroaches, the bed linen used and dirty, in the bathroom also nothing worked and the breakfast was ... creative.

👍👍 Amazing hotel. This is the only one, out of several I have been to during my visit of City of Harar in January of 2017, that I found to be a top class, yet budget hotel. I believe it is a new building. While City of Harar is classic, the hotel is contemporary, similar to the ones you find in devel...

😠 I just checked out of Winta Hotel and they’re running a black market currency exchange scam for tourists. If you don’t bring USD cash, they will charge you in Ethiopian Birr at an exchange rate of 100 Birr to 1 USD. This effectively doubles your cost. Very unethical and the only time I encountered t...
