5abubeker E. 10 months agoVusited in Dec Jan 2018. Amazing owner and staff. Room was great. Food was great. Yes you have to go down early to sleep cause harar ppl are early risers. Noise from the street will almost wake a dead person up let alone a heavy sleeper. But thats not the hotel's fault. Owener - you-sir are a wonderful person. And ill definitely be staying here when I come back.
5Ryan S. 3 years agoGreat friendly and helpful staff! A very simple place but clean and well kept. It's a little far from the old City but it's incredibly easy to get a bus or taxi out front. It's also right off the main road from Dire Dawa if you are coming from a shared bus like I was. Easy walk (about 20-25 min) to old City Gate downhill. Be aware power does seem to go out at least once a day here (this neighborhood) not sure if it's unique to only this part of town.
5Ricardo R. 4 years agoTwo things are truly outstanding here: the staff and the food. The team in Winta is friendly and nice, which doesn't come as a surprise if you had meet the owner, Daniel. This is a honest man, full of positive energy who will make sure the guests feel welcomed at his place. And this is the key for the whole experience: staying in Winta for 3 nights was always positive and I was happy there. I will keep sweet memories of these days. The food is great! I can't say it was the best I had in Ethiopia, but it comes second after the great Fours Sisters in Gondar. Tasty and yummy dishes, good cold beer from Harar and simple but excellent breakfasts. Really, the kitchen of Winta is a must. You won't need to look further for food, eating at Winta is the best thing! I asked a room to the back because of the road noise and it was a great idea: I had quite nights and relaxing moments during the day, no noise. The location isn't the best, really far from the old city, but this was never a problem: there are always tuk-tuks passing by and the service costs 20 Birr - 0,60 Euros, so in the end it wasn't an issue.
5Francesc L. 4 years agoTo be honest, I only booked this place because other places in town were full. And I am so glad I finally got to stay at Daniel’s family-run Winta Hotel. First of all, getting to the old town was a breeze. Just hop on a tuk tuk, ask to be dropped at “Feres”, 20 birr and a 5-10 minute ride will do the job. I stayed at room 301 in December 2018, which is on the third floor with a balcony. It was perfect: clean, airy, light, WiFi working just fine and noise was not too bad at all. However, if you’re sensitive about noise you may want to stay at one of the rooms at the back. Daniel can arrange smooth transfers to/from Dire Dawa airport (40 USD/each way) and hyena evenings (100 birr for hyena guy + 200 birr for transport).
5Lotus W. 4 years agoIf you are in Harer it is the best place to stay because the place is clean, the rooms are wide enough, the bathroom's too, the owner serve you like a humble Waiter and cooker. We where friendly with the owner Daniel and he served us our dinner and lunch free. Thank you Dani
5Bernard J. 3 years agoVery nice hotel with kind personnel. Daniel the director bought us some tablets when we were sick and offerd us the first diner. The guide attached at the hotel is very helpful and available with a lot of knowledge about Harar. We recommand this hotel of Harar.
4Jessica E. 3 years agoWe stayed here four nights. Rooms were comfortable and we slept well. WiFi worked well, laundry was a reasonable charge. The water heater provided hot showers without issue. Breakfast was things like eggs, pancakes - you choose one option - with fresh juice as well as coffee. Daniel (the owner) was brilliant - very kind and helpful. Solomon (tour guide) also went out of his way to make sure everything was ok. We took a city tour with him the day after we explored on our own, and he put everything into context. It was also great that he could translate, as the locals were really friendly! We also took a driver and guide to the camel market in Babille, which was brilliant. This time we had Nahom, who was patient with our many questions, and explained everything really clearly. Location is pretty good. At the moment, there isn't a tourist price for transport to the old city, so it was nice to be away from the main road and noise without being charged a ridiculous price to get there and back. Airport pick up/departure is extra, but a reasonable price for the distance. The only niggle, and the reason I've given 4 stars, was that the floors were not always so clean.Otherwise, it was perfect.
