Such a great place. Found it randomly and had the best pub cheese I’ve ever had in my life.

When you walk in it will take your eyes a few minutes to adjust to to the dim lighting. Kind of felt like a speakeasy. Lots of fun touches in the decor like suitcases as bar shelves and old alcohol bottles as candle holders. Pool table, shuffleboard and a big table for card games. Live music on certain nights.

Great customer service, great food selection. Great drink selection. Price was par for quality. Only con was that it smelled like it used to be a smoking establishment when I walked in and I got a whiff of that every few minutes which wasn’t satisfying to me. I give them 4.5 stars.

Update 2021: Even with all of the pandemic chaos, Ox continues to be excellent! Consistent wonderful food choices! Great bar and friendly staff. So happy that they continue to be open in these trying times! * Gorgeous interior. The food is amazing and always consistent. The drinks are yummy! Great owners and staff. A must try!

Yikes! this is not the place that was advertised all over the web with pictures of gorgeous cuisine and upscale hospitality. I was a little shocked when I walked in to find what looked like a strip club with fabric covering all the windows. Luckily the lovely lady covering the bar explained to me that this place just RECENTLY changed from a chef-driven restaurant to a bar with very few food selections. We were starving and other restaurants around the area were closed. We should have listened to our gut and ate elsewhere.... The food was horrible....sorry to say..I mean really horrible. .probably a good place to grab a beer and play pool.

This is a fun place to stop. I was searching for a good steak in Brookings to try out. This place offers a good flat iron steak for $28. They have a good selection of different foods to try including hamburgers, salads, friends, beers etc. I like that they try to support local farmers with buying food from them. It’s a fun environment. I wasn’t overly impressed with the steak, but I would try something else on the menu next time.

The first time I went to Oxenfrē it was great! This time it was well. It wasn’t bad but it didn’t live up to the memories. I could tell they were short staffed. The dishwasher called in sick and it was only 3 of them working. So I can tell they were stretched thin-Skeleton crew. But next time, just let customers know, hey we’re short staffed so please be patient with us. We will understand but when you don’t explain the situation or let us know; we become crabby. Overall still love the place. Just a bit cold inside for the winter and the price hike made sense but you definitely pay for the quality. Remember that people. They source locally which kudos to them. But yes, just those couple of things. That’s why I couldn’t give 5 stars. The tacos weren’t my favorite but I’d come back for the bbq sliders and BLAT during happy hour. Although the tortillas were great, I’ll give them that.

Opens at 5pm, locals come in around 8pm. Menu is much smaller than old posts. Ironically, many items on menu are not available. Cheese curds are delicious. Employees are attentive.

Large, dim space that is funky in a cool way. The beer selection was small and didn't really have anything that was great. Full bar. Friendly staff.

Been here over a dozen times...were from out of town. It was a true shame to find out they no longer welcome families and are NO LONGER a restaurant, ONLY a bar (21 & older). This place use to be the BEST restaurant, had a unique drinks/menu & had AMAZING customer service. Wish they'd open up as a restaurant again until 9pm at least.

The bartender couldn’t have been more rude. It was like we were bothering him by just walking in. Asked for a menu and he pointed at a stack across the room for us to get up and get ourselves. So we walked out. Hate leaving this review because this place (when it was a restaurant) was my favorite place on the coast!

I loved this place.. love thier happy hour menu and drinks! There Margarita's are fresh squeezed and so yummy!!! Wish I was there now!.. the bartender was awesome ..I just wish I could remember her name. Food is fresh and tasty.. I think we went there 3 times on my short visit.

Cozy modern atmosphere with a variety of local inspired cocktails and drinks. Small triangle shaped patio almost boasts a view of the ocean. Menu had wholesome hearty food varietals for a price. Vegetarian option was delicious although a bit on the oily side.

The food is excellent, but you have to walk up to the bar and order, and once your food arrives your pretty much on your own. It's more like a bar with food compared to a typical restaurant.

This is our new favorite place when we visit Brookings. The selection of food was inventive and very well prepared. The drink selection was abundant without being overwhelming. We desperately wanted to try the poutine, but it was just the two of us and we didn't think we could finish them. We did see a couple of other tables order the poutine, and we will definitely try it next time around. The burger, fries, and tots, and and chicken & waffles were all excellent. We can't wait to come back here for more.

The food was top notch. There was four of us. We had the Ox burger, street tacos and salad respectively. For appetizers we had the fried pickles, chili poppers and something else I forgot because I didn't try it. Everything was absolutely delicious. We all loved the food. The atmosphere was good, the place was clean. Two of us had margaritas, one a bud light and the other just a water. The margaritas were very good. The only complaint we could say was that the service was a little slow. We got there right at 4 when they opened, the food wasn't served until a little after 5. All in all about 2 hours there from order to check. Generally not a big deal but one of us had a zoom meeting at 6 so she had to go the car before we could pay. Would definitely recommend. Highly recommend the wagyu beef burger. Tender, juicy and full of flavor. You need to check this place out if you are in the area. You will not be disappointed.

Just a gem on the coast! Staff were amazing. Food and beer were great. Tons of atmosphere. Just can't say enough good things about this place. Just go, you'll see.
