Finally made it to Yasuke in South Mcallen. I wanted to take my wife to a different place for dinner and since I’m not an avid fan of Zushi rolls or asian cuisine, we decided to give Yasuke a try. Upon entering I Immediately noticed the ambience was so nice, the restaurant was full of guests and there were more in waiting. We were immediately tended to by the staff and the young lady who took care of our table was so helpful and attentive. When they brought the food to our table it was simply amazing. It was fresh, tasted great and we decided that we plan to go back soon, but invite some friends. The owner, Alex was so nice that I made sure to take the time to write this review and I gave it a 5 ⭐️ rating. Keep up the great work Alex.

Although the service and atmosphere leave much to be desired, the food makes up for the lack of service and scenery. Every plate that was ordered between friends and I was tasty, however the pricing of each item is quite high and deserves a re-evaluation of the sort. I'd like to come here again in the future, but the pricing, atmosphere, and service will prevent me from doing so.

Service was ok. First time here and thought i wouldn't return because service took way too long during lunch hour. Didn't seem too busy either which was confusing. Food portions were very good and cheese appetizer was so good. $15 Philadelphia roll was also confusing because that roll is usually not the same price as say a Rainbow roll. Overall, food was good but our bus boy seemed way more attentive than our waiter.

Alex Nam hit the ball out of the park, as we had the best fried rice we have ever had. He asked what our taste preferences were, and he said he would do the rest. Like all fabulous food prepared with love by an excellent chef, it was cooked to perfection. Amazing! An excellent blend of flavors, partnered with a cold beer, couldn’t ask for anything more. Looking forward to our next visit and sharing the experience with others. Thanks Alex.

this is easily what I consider the best sushi in the valley. They also have some amazing Japanese dishes you can’t find anywhere else here like okonomiyaki and omurice. I’ve tried most everything on their menu and some stuff off the menu. The Chasu (pork belly) is amazing. Crispy on the meaty ends and the fat very soft, buttery, and full of flavor from the marinade. This time I got 12 different Nigiri to try some I haven’t in a while and some that my faves. I got Tuna, salmon, white tail, red snapper, mackerel, escolar, masago, ikura, tamago, uni, amaebi(shrimp), and eel. They have some season sushi and other things at times like the Uni (sea urchin), Otoro(fatty tuna) and fresh real wasabi, though no wasabi this time so had to stick with regular wasabi. The presentation is on point of course but what really impressed me was the deliberate order of how my sushi was plated. From tuna to the eel, they were plated by their flavor profile which the more subtle and clean flavors on one end and the stronger umami flavors on the other. Really showing why Yasuke are the best in the RGV. I would note that unlike American or Mexican sushi, some of these are very different in texture and can have a very strong umami flavor. The slimey buttery texture of Uni definitely isn’t for everyone but I love it and very few places here carry it. My wife got the Yasuke Futomaki roll and miso soup though I was too full to try the roll lol. I’ve had their miso plenty of times and it’s a good solid miso but nothing stand out about it to me. Would like more wakame in it but that’s my personal preference. I didn’t get some this time but I would recommend their hot teas and their desserts especially the Korean chocolate cake omg. The seasonal drinks most always hit too. It can be pricey but I think it’s always worth it. Hell my wife and I have spent over $300 on a multi course omakase for two before and did not regret one bit. If you want authentic Japanese and great quality sushi Yasuke is definitely the place to go in the valley. What we ordered: Chasu pork 12 different Nigiri 1 Yasuke futomaki roll Miso soup And soft drinks We spent ~$70

Vibe, organization, service and food were amazing. We were served by Alicia (who made a splendid job). Not only the ramen tasted authentic, but also the sushi, bento and desserts were great. There is a good reason why the place gets full pretty fast.

Positive vibes, fresh seafood, extensive menu, fast speed service and the friendliest employees. Drinks are strong and delicious and the food is always to die for. I dream about the soft shell crab ✨ if I lived in McAllen I would go more often but I do drive all the way from Brownsville every other week or so just to grab some sushi

The server was super nice, the atmosphere was nice but a lil hot, we were all sweating under the fan. The sushi was very stale bland, the rice for my friend katsu plate was undercook, it's like hard and undone rice. The California roll taste worst than HEB sushi.. the best thing that day was the squid and edamame. I expect a lot more since Im paying for high quality sushi prices. Won't be coming back...

My friends and I went for dinner in Yasuke and definitely enjoyed the atmosphere. The food was fresh and delicious, and the best part was that the server (Gretel). She was patient, kind and shared a few laughs along the way, ensuring we were taken care for. We were delighted by the service and the food. Would recommend to anyone who want authentic Japanese food in the valley.

Everything is delicious. You can’t go wrong with anything, really. I tried the spicy Ramen and it was amazing. Fried veggies, pork belly slices, friend rice – it was all great!

It was hot in there. Don't know if it was a temporary issue or always like that. It's a small area with a lot of seating. The food was good and so was the service. Just the heat sucked! I ordered a bunch of other stuff, but I forgot to take pics. Gyoza, ramen, yakisoba, and some sushi tray.

Been here multiple times and every time the food is delicious and the service is amazing. Their sushi rolls are amazing and their nigiri as well. I had the squid salad and it was good but needed a little more vinegrette. The food is pricey, but you will always get top quality. I recommend their ramen and mochi, my favorite is the mango mochi and miso ramen with chicken katsu.

I tried this place a couple years back and never got around to making a review, so here are my thoughts. Essentially it is a really good japanese restaruant that nails the vibe, service, and food quality, and pretty much can be a place to go to for the novelty for eating japanese or even korean food. Be sure to like sushi, rice, soups, noodles, and an assortment of mixed drinks and beer since there is a dish for any customer here. In the photos any version of the bento box, the chicken, shrimp, steak or even salmon versions give an taste for much of what yasuke has to offer, and is a good thing to recommend to newcomers if you're going to ask the server questions. Tempura is essentially japanese fried food and its an assortment of fried vegetables and meats depending on the dish. Id recommend tempura as a side dish that complements either a sushi roll or other dish, it shouldnt really be your main dish in my opinion if you're a new comer to japanese food since its quite heavy. lastly are both Ramen and sushi, lets start with Ramen. There are three types of ramen miso, shoyu and spicy Ramen, and id recommend both shoyu and spicy ramen for newcomers since miso can be a little off putting after eating it for a long period. Miso soup as a broth in my opinion is similar to how tempura is that it shouldnt be your main dish unless you like the taste and instead should be a side dish. As such shoyu and spicy Ramen are way more flavourful and probably are what newcomers would expect ramen to taste like. For sushi, my recommendations are the California rolls that are included in the bento box automatically, the tropical roll, and the rainbow roll. These three rolls are the sushi rolls you look for if you just want cucumber, avocado, crab and either salmon or tuna. If you're looking for cream cheese options, go for the moody blues or the philadelphia rolls. Overall, unlike either American or even Mexican cuisine Japanese food from Yasuke captures the strong flavors that you'd expect from something as a novelty. The food is pricey but the service and food is top notch, and i'd recommend anyone to try.

Must try! After craving sushi and ramen noodles we decided to give this place a try. The freshness of the food is unmeasured. The combination of flavors on the ramen noodles is one of the best i have ever tried. I highly recommend The Fortune roll, and the ramen noodles with tempura shrimp. Our waiter Fernando was very helpful and attentive after explaining to him it was our first time trying the place. Great atmosphere and staff; overall my husband and I had a great experience and we’ll definitely visit this place again.

Every week food is always top notch and always fresh. Get the King Mandu dumplings. Sit with Ivan for an amazing experience. Avoid the manager at all costs. Interactions with him always disappoint and he lacks competent communication skills to be leading such a great place. I hope Alex addresses this with him.

Hidden gem near Wichita and 10th Street near the mall and McAllen airport. Legit great sushi. Try it all and the come back again. Squid nigiri with their house-made lemon soy is terrific pairing. Scallop nigiri is amazing blend of flavors that highlight the scallop’s delicate flavor. Friendly team and bartenders. Hot sake on tap, lychee martini is popular and plenty of other Japanese and Korean food options beyond sushi. Try it out soon!
