If you have not been here, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!? This place is the perfect blend of home cooking with an even better home feel. Their made from scratch daily bread and pizza is a trip to Italy. Not to mention their desserts! You will come hungry and empty but leave full and with new friends. This is the neighborhood’s hidden gem.

My wife and I had lunch here. We tried a sampling of all the small pastries, a cannoli and a blueberry Danish. I also tried a slice of their meat lovers pizza. Everything is made fresh daily and anything left over is donated locally. The pizza was incredible - as you'd expect from a bread/pastry place perhaps, the crust was so delicious and the sauce and toppings were a great compliment to the bread. It was amazing how each of the pastries had unique flavors and textures - some were sweet, some more savory, chocolate, coconut, various jellies and fillings. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The small indoor dining area is complemented by an outdoor area. It's not a busy section of town and we were able to find street parking easy enough, although after having been there, I'd walk a few blocks if needed next time!

Ate here for the first time today & will definitely be back. Ravioli & chicken parm was delish! We also got a spinach & feta pastry which was gone before we could take a picture. Authentic italian food, made us wish we were back in Italy!

It’s a very small but cute place. I like the outdoor seating area and interior design, but it’s hard to walk inside because it’s cluttered with tables and chairs. I ordered a ravioli dish and the serving size was really small, so I was not fully satisfied. I’ll have to go again if I want to get a better scope of their food.

Alvaro is an absolute gem. Delicious homey foods, reasonable prices, friendly folks. Best ricotta cannolis. Ditto chicken parm. Not to mention countless other pastries, pasta dishes and breakfast sandwiches. Ample outdoor seating in the nicer weather. Run don’t walk!

Found an Italian bakery in the heart of uptown Harrisburg! Only $2 for an Italian loaf. Has indoor and outdoor seating. Open until 6 pm for getting goodies after work. Only downside: Street parking only! Had to park several blocks away and walk up. Can order large quantities for parties or fundraisers.

Great food! Had the chicken parm and gnocchi which was fantastic. Pizza slice was good as well. But the cannolis were dynamite!

Very friendly service, wide selection of cookies. We got one of each. I liked the wedding cookie, I would have been happy with a box of just those. I didn’t love the food, but my husband did. I don’t think it was bad, just not my personal preference. It was a nice little date spot.

This place is our favorite! Family owned business with quality food and very friendly service. Pastries; the pastries are the best - literally get anything, you won’t be disappointed. Nutella croissants and cannolis are my jam though. Gelato; get some uniquely flavored gelato on a warm day. Pizza; very affordable pizza slices with big portions! Delish. Bread; take some fresh bread to-go and toast it in your oven for dinner. Atmosphere; Eat inside for an authentic Italian experience. Take your food outside and enjoy the sidewalk views of Green St.

I am a postal worker and just so happened to land this route for the day. I stopped in to deliver mail and was instantly caught up in the atmosphere. Beautiful pastries, wonderful smells, catchy music.... The guy working at the front was super friendly and offered me a donut. I tried one of their sugar donuts, it was soOo good. Very light and fluffy, freshly made and absolutely delicious! I thought about that donut for the rest of the day lol seriously, check them out! It'll be worth it!

Affordable and delicious Italian...a hidden gem in midtown. The sandwiches are made with fresh bread and there are daily specials. I've loved everything I've tried so far.

First time there... Excellent sandwiches, great meats, fresh bread, and nice customizations. Made to order... prosciutto, mozzarella, arugula, balsamic vinegar, and pesto😋 I also ordered vanilla florentines... delicious! And a shot of espresso. I believe it's a light roast. Nice staff, clean and cozy atmosphere. They have a wide selection of baked goods and a nice pre-selection menu for the day. I will definitely visit again.

The cookies were amazing and if you leave without buying a loaf of the fresh Italian bread you're truly missing out. Best bread I've ever had! The guy working the counter was helpful, kind, and worked the register at speeds that should defy all logical reason. Highly recommend!

We have been here twice. First time we got in the long line after 12:30 pm and ordered carry out. The line is long during lunch hour so it's not comfortable to eat indoors with so many people standing so close unless you can get seat near the window or outside. There is no wait service, they have bottled sodas to purchase, and plastic utensils. I didn't like the pizza, which tasted tough. Husband's penne with sausage was delicious, but it seemed like small portions. Didn't take photos because we were famished when we got home. Husband was disappointed to see small portions. Son's ravioli with chicken parm looked plentiful. We went today to get cookies for $11 lb. We ate 6 cookies before I took photo. They are to die for on a cold fall night with hot tea and coffee. We missed out on the rainbow cookies, which sold out in the morning. Those are the perfect Christmas cookies. We will be back. We live in Linglestown so we'll be eating at the Front St location when it opens.

I have been looking for authentic Italian food since I traveled to Rome last June, and this is the only place I have found that has it. I can not recommend this restaurant enough!! It is in a cute corner store, has indoor and outdoor seating, and a very large menu with breakfast, lunch, cookies, cannolis, and gelato! Employees were super friendly as well. I will be making trips to Harrisburg just to visit this place

Alvaros is a gem in Harrisburg. Excellent Italian food whether you eat inside, at a sidewalk table or do takeout. We took advantage of their New Year’s Eve takeout package and everything has been excellent.

I absolutely love this place. They only do dinner service on Saturday night I believe. If it's a cold weather month make your reservations a few weeks in advance. Outside seating is first come first serve. The menu changes once a year. Their pesto sauce makes any pasta it's paired with melt in your mouth. Love the antipasto. I never want to share it. Stuffed meatballs are to die for!!

The food was delicious! I got the stuffed shells and chicken parm. I love that they have daily menus.

Simply the best food anywhere. Their breakfast sandwich comes on their fresh homemade bread and every part of the sandwich is amazing! Fresh tomatoes and Genoa salami. Their rum cake has a texture like no other cake I've ever had. They are family owned and so welcoming and friendly, happy to explain the menu to you etc. Good outdoor seating as well. I went 45 minutes out of my way to eat here and did not regret it.

👍👍 Nice coffee shop. I love their selection of pastries. They make a really good Iced Matcha Latte. The pastries were really good. I really liked the cinnamon roll (especially when you heat it up.) and the Blueberry Danish. The Key lime pie and Tiramisu were good too.
