Great steak, cooked and seasoned to perfection. We ordered 1 medium rare & one rare to test the cooking out & we were delighted that the chef knows how to cook steak properly!! 👍🏼👍🏼 Salad dressed well & chips crispy and velvety in Centre. Just thought $42 a bit pricey for a Pub meal considering your order at the bar and get ur drinks yourself. Will come back to try other food.

Very expensive overpriced meals that aren't meal size and trying to be a 5star pub on a 2 star budget and ideas. Great food taste and friendly staff aswell as great parking for both normal and disability park. Also staff need better understanding of drink costs as got over charged and nearly got away with it if didn't get person to double check prices.

Fairly decent pub. Been coming here for years... gone are the days of the all you can eat salad / veggie bar. Quiet, easy to get a table at lunch time. Went for my usual... beef schnitzel with Pepper sauce. Schnitzel that came out was a good size, tasty and tender. The salad that was included had the right amount of tasty crumbed fetta that tied everything together. Great place for an after work drink or night cap. Their selection of whiskies and rums is suffient to find something that works for you. Some great indoor and outdoor areas for the sunnier months

My partner and I went in Sussex Hotel this weekend for unplanned lunch. The place didn't disappoint. The staff are friendly and the food....the food love it!! Love it!! Compliments to the Chef. I had the fried Salmon with mash and wasabi puree. I love the fish crispy skin. My partner had the pork and it's huge serving. We both truly enjoyed our delicious food. Will recommend for good service and excellent food 🥩 🥗🍗

I have only been once, unfortunately I probably won't go again. They only had one vegan option, which sounded promising but was disappointing. When I see mushroom burger, I generally expect a burger bun with mushroom as the "patty" and generally love seeing how different eateries dress it up. Unfortunately this mushroom burger used 2 mushrooms as the bun, with tofu and sauce/caramlised onion? and a salad on the side. The staff were super friendly and service was great, which is why I gave it a 3 star. We also waited about an hour for mains to come out.

Really nice place ..i hvnt been here in decades ..but i did enjoy the food and the service was really good too ..quite relaxed atmosphere and warm ...we had chicken parmi and must admit massive servings ..all tasty fresh and quality food ..i had the chicken hawaii five -0 ..no complaints from me or anyone ..

We have not been to the Sussex for a long time and decided to try it again recently and we were very happy we did. We have now been back twice in 2 weeks and will go back again. Food is really good.. cocktails pretty good.. varied a bit from one visit to the next .. venal waitress knows how to make a mean Cosmo & Violet Sour.. the next week they were not as good wen she was not working..

It was a little confusing as to whether we needed to order at the counter of if staff would be waiting on us. The set up of the eating area is quite pleasant with indoor and outdoor seating. Another disappointment was the availability of only one out of three specials. If you’re going to have them be sure you have adequate supply. Meals were served on time and were quite tasty.

Wait/bar staff were fantastic - apologies for not getting your name to specify your service excellence, dark haired staff legend - we had a big table of mixed ages & were quite rowdy out in the alfresco area. Staff were very accommodating, tolerant and particular about allergies, and were super attentive to our table needs. Food was pretty good, but we will definitely return for the excellent service. Six of us went here for dinner, the surrounds were quite pleasant, parking was easy and the service was fine. The chef/cook however can't have been happy working on a public holiday as two steaks were overcooked and a chicken schnitzel dry. Not a good average.

Update July 2021: Downgraded from 5 stars to 3 stars due to inconsistencies in food quality. We were here for lunch on a weekday last week. Seeing how well patronised the restaurant was, we knew it was a good sign and we were right. We each ordered the Scotch fillet steak with mushroom sauce, and it was arguably the best steak in Adelaide. Smokey chargrilled and caramelized outside, and melt in the mouth tender and flavourful on the inside, we could cut it with our butter knives. I asked for medium rare just in case, but next time I will ask for medium. The fries and mashed potatoes were also really, really good, very crispy and moist fries and really tasty buttery golden mash.

Third time still unlucky. First time inedible steak returned uneaten no apology. Mouse in the dinning room. Second time burnt schnitzel , wrong sauce, wine list inaccurate, tonight tops it all. Completely different meal delivered asked for it to be takeaway as I’ll never eat so will give to someone who will. Sarcastic message on container 😒

Great lunch, staff really friendly and attentive but not over the top. Wine a little pricey but good selection. Veggie filo was yummy and light but $34 a bit steep for what was on the plate. Sunday $30 roast was really good.

Great little pub that was in walking distance of the Adelaide Caravan park along the bike path. Excellent food and had several gluten free options. Highly recommend.

Can’t recommend enough, definitely not your standard pub meal. Main meals were of a high standard, such beautifully created meals. Pork Belly Main was to die for! Kids lasagna was amazing, just like top quality home made. Cute kid’s desserts too. Overall impressed and well priced. 5 stars

Only 5 of us for dinner but food brought out 3 different times. First meal almost finished before last one got their meal. Also charged $50 for a bottle of Geisen sauce blanc. Disgusting.

Great steaks, have been a few times for dinner, and its never been ridiculously over crowded. Good for a nice meal and conversation you can actually hear as its not too loud.

a generally good experience. meal was a little disappointing - had the $43 scotch fillet steak, which was cooked & tasted ok, but unfortunately a bit on the tough side. perhaps source the meat from a different supplier?

Nice pub and seemed to be popular with the locals which is reassuring. Staff here very friendly and is also dog friendly outside in the cosy courtyard. Would definitely recommend.

Atmosphere very nice. Wait staff brilliant! Ann-Maree was 5 stars! Aranchini Balls 5/5 Flathead 5/5 Eye Fillet 0/5 Big ZERO Customer Service 5/5 Medium Rare eye fillet was over cooked to well-done. Then I dipped a fry into the peppercorn sauce and it was stone cold. Ann-Maree rescued this review from a 1 star to 4 stars. I would employ her in my company in the way she handled it all.

Venue and the allocated table (#34) was great for our party of ten adults. It was lovely and quiet for us to enjoy birthday celebrations for my lovely wife. The service from the staff on the night in general was great, however, the server looking after us for the evening should be applauded. He was laid back yet attentive and made for good company for our evening. The meals were all terrific, with a special mention to chef and the kitchen for the slow, cooked lamb dish and the barramundi. However, the eggplant schnitzel (vegetarian) arrived at the table with a sigh of disappointment - there just wasn't much on display (e.g. the three thin slices of eggplant on top of chips looked more like something akin to tempura!) Fortunately, our trusty server swung into action and sorted out the mild disappointment with more eggplant... Wonderful & thoughtful. We'll definitely be back

We enjoyed an interstate family get together at this hotel. The food was great, as was the wine. Prices good and staff very friendly. It’s quite a worn out looking hotel, however everything was clean and tidy. Lots of places to sit and enjoy each others company.

We had dinner at Sussex Hotel Adelaide. It was not what we were expecting for pub food but hey it was amazing. Service was great and both our meals were truly delicious. The chef deserves credit as it was delicious i had the roasted chicken breast and my husband had the risotto yum. Thoroughly recommended.

Had a fabulous chicken schnitzel cooked to perfection and of gigantic proportion, very tasty and delicious! Great food,excellent staff and wonderful environment, especially the karaoke! Mains was tasty. It has a good children's menu. A few places I went to recently didn't or a very poor childrens menu. Dessert for the place could be cheaper. A good night 😊

The Sussex saved the day after another venue changed our table ( without notice ) to a bench next to the entrance, adjacent to a party of 13 to accomodate a larger booking. We couldn't hear ourselves think. The Sussex might not be glamorous but it was quiet and spacious. We stuck to the classics menu for simple meals, done well with large servings. Lovely atmosphere and ample off street parking made for a perfect afternoon. Expect things to gradually get even better after recent takeover by new management.

Lovely venue. My crumbed whiting was perfect and enjoyed the salad. The Dining Room was not air-conditioned, but had fans on, needs to be air-conditioned. The staff were friendly and efficient,creating a relaxed ambience.

Meals were excellent, food was very good with a good variety of options. Disappointing staff in the pokies area could have been better. Service by one make member could have been a lot better. No enthusiasm and seemed like a chore to provide service to patrons. Otherwise very good 👍

The meal I had for my birthday lunch was fantastic. Also able to have our dog with us in the beer garden was a plus. So glad the Sussex is dog friendly

Went here on Sunday with a big group. Meals were great. Place looks nice inside and also has a big beer garden outside which was good to help keep the kids occupied in. I loved my meal which was the Kataifi Atlantic Salmon. Very impressed 👏 👌

All 3 of us had a different meal and all were great. Very tasty with fresh ingredients. Staff were friendly and attentive. The beef stir fry was outstanding. As 1 of our party was gluten free she was impressed with the range of gluten free food offered. Easy to park. Will certainly go back

Honestly, the best chicken parmi I have had in South Australia, that’s not to mention the best service I’ve experienced. The chef and bar staff were amazing, would 100% recommend, if you want a drink and a nice meal after a long day i recommend.
