When you stay at a place like the Stamford Grand I think you go in expecting great service, exceptional breakfast. A wonderful stay where you can relax and enjoy stress and worry free. Because you have paid that extra to stay somewhere great with great service. I have to say maybe it’s us but this place is not up to 4 star rating. I will never stay again unfortunately because it’s not worth the money. No check in service. No smiling accomodating staff. No trolley to help our family of four to our room we were staying for 5 days. Nor was there any one to assist with luggage. Charged us for parking but we couldn’t park our car so had to find off street parking. Pool was out of order so could not swim. No in house movies. No complimentary water bottles. They didn’t even make up our room even though we had the sign on the door. I mean 4 stars you shouldn’t need to ask for your bed to be made. That’s not carbon footprint that’s just plain money saving and ripping off your guests. Should I keep going… breakfast is pathetic they seriously need to take a look at what is being served at other hotels because there is no variety and poor presentation. And. Very light on. Really disappointed with the breakfast. Yeah the rooms are a little dated but your willing to overlook this when service is good and facilities are up to scratch. So sad as this is our first holiday In 3 years since Covid. Very disappointed.

Always enjoy our stay at this hotel. It's right on the waterfront at Glenelg overlooking the famous jetty. The rooms are clean with a classic retro appeal, this time we had one without a balcony & we were disappointed we couldn't open the windows to hear the surf. We did enjoy our evening dinner at the onsite restaurant. Classic dishes never fail to please

What an awful place to stay. The rooms are extremely over priced for the facilities. Staff are rude, upon arrival and checking in the bag porter came up to us and asked what room we we're going to. Then said he couldn't take our bags as he was busy. Which was fine we were happy to take them. Then we got to our room, there's a knock he's burst into the door to take the cart and rudely said " I was happy to take your bags but you were in to much of a rush ". Then chucked our bags on the floors and left. Second of all the heating didn't work all night was freezing, Luke warm showers. At 10am we had house keeping knocking on our door asking us what time we were checking out. Not to mention we had late check out at 1pm. Overall extremely disappointing.

Room service Menu a bit limited. Only 1 fish dish smothered on tomatoe which did not appeal. If staying more than 2 night I would have battled to get something to eat I like. But room lovely bed comfy

We splurged on this accommodation for my birthday last weekend, expecting to get a really ‘fancy’ room to reflect the price we paid. The room was small and dirty with extremely outdated decor- cheap nasty furniture and finishes. The cost of parking was additional- a rude shock considering the price we paid to stay there! Would definitely not stay there again. Beautiful location, but certainly not 5 star value.

I had the most wonderful stay! The staff were absolutely amazing and made me feel at home the minute I arrived! Cooper and Martin at the front desk and concierge where an absolute pleasure to talk to. The room was clean and well equipped! The view simply jaw-dropping. I was also offered alternatives for the temporarily closed pool and spa. The location is superb! Do note that it can get a bit noisy on weekends but this is due to the prime location right in the middle of the main street. I did not mind it at all. The gentleman in the newsagency across the road was super helpful, though this might not be part of the hotel. Thank you team and I am looking forward to my next stay!

We had an ocean view king room. The room was a little bit dated but otherwise fine and it had excellent views of the foreshore and the ocean. A great location at the end of the tram line in the heart of Glenelg.

This hotel is in a great location and the view from our room was fantastic. Unfortunately the hotel is very tired and in need of a huge overhaul. The cocktail bar is nice but unfortunately on the night we stayed as we entered at 8 o clock it was closing as it was quiet. Sorry this is a hotel bar and should stay open for guests no matter how quiet. The other bar is not the nicest to sit and have a drink in the evening. The pool is great but again in dire need of an upgrade. Staff very pleasant. Oh and the display cabinets near the shop are a disgrace. Have you not heard of a duster. This hotel I think trades on its past reputation but really needs to up.uts game to keep that.

Location was great and staff friendly, but that was about it! Rooms were dated, air conditioning did not work, made several calls about it and still not fixed for the entire stay which made it an uncomfortable stay as it was extremely hot in Adelaide over the weekend. Pool area was dated, and had to call for towels to be replenished twice (both times ended up having to go to grab room towels).

Celebrating our 1 year anniversary we got complimentary bubbles and the most beautiful room! The staff were excellent and the breakfast downstairs was delicious! We’ve stayed here a few times and will definitely be coming back! Highly suggest😊

Here for 1 night - business. Pleasantly surprised with the standard of service and cleanliness. Is an old building so you need to forgive the age where it shows. Breakfast was a good ol fashioned buffet - perfect with a good selection of the everything hot / cold that you would expect. Location, location, location - perfect. I plan to return with family.

My husband and I did the romance package for our 29th Wedding Anniversary. It was a truly amazing experience. The staff were all lovely, especially the Martin who helped me take our bags out to the car when we left. The room was set up beautifully. A rose and rose petals on the bed. Strawberries, canapes, and champagne on arrival just beautiful. The room was perhaps a little dated, but it is an older building, so you expect older style furnishings. If you would like to do something special for someone special then I highly recommend it.

I guess you’re basically paying for the name of the hotel. No valet service, pool and gym were both under renovation and only have 1 working lift during my stay. Not the mention that you have to pay $25 every night for the parking which isn’t really convenient because of the tight parking spaces where you can’t open your car door to get out. Half of the hotel staff aren’t even as welcoming. Rooms are mediocre so I’m a tad disappointed with my whole stay there.

Went to a function upstairs where certain drinks were supposed to be available, one important drink wasn't. Staff seem to be trying to solve the issue but something was holding them back and we had a very short supply. Downstairs the drink was readily available.

Made a booking at the restaurant, the guy at the reception didn't even acknowledge us when we walked in and waited by the counter , one of the guests came down with his friends, he entertained them and ushered them in straight away, no apology after calling him out. Never again, found a much better restaurant with great staff just around the corner, very dissapointing being on holidays and looking forward to a lovely meal by the sea.

So glad we changed accommodation. A great experience, sparkling and canapes included with your dinner, served in the lounge overlooking the ocean. Breakfast pastries were very fresh and a very good selection. Thanks to the lovely staff for everything.

Our lunch here was lovely. A set price for lunch with a few different dishes to choose from. We chose the homemade lamb and black pepper sausage and the creamy seafood chowder. For $22.00 per head, the food was great value and both meals were delicious and presented beautifully. I would come back and eat the same food again tomorrow. You could also add a glass of house wine to your meal for an additional $3.00. Well done Stamford! We had a wonderful lunch overlooking the water and the staff were great.

Price for the room is a bit much considering facilities. Extra cost for room bond that isn’t returned for 5/7 days. No cancellation with booking or at least with the reservation we had but wanted to charge immediately for booking. Parking is a bit of a joke having to walk up and down actual vehicle ramps for access most of time. Views are pretty wonderful right on the beachfront and rooms are of decent quality. But you’d expect a bit more for the price tag. Fix the parking issues and all the hidden costs that aren’t listed to the customer. 😢

Room was cold, despite alleged "air conditioning", and TV didn't work, which apparently the front desk was aware of, but still gave us the room. They offered to change us over to another room, but we had already unpacked. Good breakfast buffet offering.

The best thing about the hotel is it’s location. Water view at the back and city life on the other side. Last stop of tram is just next to it. Staff was mixed. Some of them were really good and some of them were Ok. Breakfast was also good but not amazing. You have to buy barista coffee, it is not included in breakfast.

Our overall experience of this hotel was ok. We enjoyed the music and horizons bar with Kyan and Jazz they gave it a great vibe. Our room was 'tired'. The window was so dirty that you couldn't see any view. A $4 upgrade to have a coffee with breakfast that we already paid $70 for was a bit of a stretch especially for punters from Melbourne where 'nescafe ' instant just won't cut the mustard! Come on Stamford you are a massive prestigious hotel group. The coffee is a no brainer. Having said that the location was amazing and we would stay again.

Stayed on 12th floor . Ocean view was lovely . The room itself was nothing special and i was Charged $50 for a cold breakfast . All bars and gaming room closed by 10 so if your not ready for bed you need to go else where .

The location was great so was the breakfast. However, the hotel requested a nonrefundable previous booking and on arrival, they charged you 300 dollars for a deposit. After one day I'm still waiting for my deposit back. No one answered my phone calls. Pool was out of service and the room was a bit dusty what give us a hi fever.

Would not recommend, in fact do not book here. I stayed here for a conference. The concierge at receptions was rude, very disrespectful on arrival. It’s not the Ritz, so I’m not sure why they’re charging so much or expecting payment plus a $300 bond on arrival. Rooms are incredibly overpriced and run down. The only comforting part of the room was the bed (thank goodness). The room service was sub-optimal, one night my fries arrived and they looked and tasted like McCains chips left in the oven too long. The room service food was also over-priced for the standard of the hotel. The reception staff made an error with my booking, on the first day I arrived I cancelled my final night, they instead cancelled my two final nights. They then preceded to ring me multiple times and contacted the conference organiser to find me urgently to sort out the issue. I had also attempted to call over the weekend prior and the prior to sort out my booking but was told they would it when I arrived, and they sounded like they didn’t have time to speak to me about my booking. When we went down to reception the gentleman who had served me on the day did say ‘oh yeh’ when I said to him I only said to cancel the Friday night. No apology from him, only from the manager. I missed 45mins of a conference I was attending for an error they made. This also made me feel unwelcome in the hotel. The hotel does not capitalise on the fact it is a heritage hotel, everything is run down. Everyone is rude and not welcoming at all. We were never notified the pool and sauna were being renovated either, so for a hotel to charge what it did and the poor service, with a tacky bar and gaming area- definitely not worth it. Do yourself a favour and air BnB or try another Hotel, the only grand thing about it is it’s size.

I booked a king ocean balcony room. It was clean and bright. The bed was comfortable, although I prefer a different style pillow. The bathroom was good (although no bath). I ordered the miso eggplant dinner with room service. It was delicious. I had the hotel breakfast on the first morning ($24 I think). It was pretty standard. The coffee was only average. The pastries were amazing. There are plenty of other breakfast options so close by though, so lots of choice. It was easy to catch the bus to the airport nearby. The location of the hotel is perfect.

Nice hotel. One of those you know what you will get. The location is what really sells this place. The place is long overdue for a reservation, hence the loss of 1 star. However, given it is at the beach, you kind of expect it to be a little run down. Food good, service always good.

First ever trip to Adelaide, Glenelg. Dinner first night was a package two course meal. Very basic, we had the red snapper and egg plant meals. Additionally we ordered a fisherman's basket for $35. Not happy with that meal as the prawns looked like they were brought from Coles, were overcooked, and rock hard. Showed the Maitred'e, who aplogised and did nothing about it. Maitred'e that was on that night was not very helpful. The waiter Bishi was very nice, professional and ensured we were attended to. The second night a different maitred'e very nice made us feel welcomed. We ordered the same meals and they were cooked to perfection.

We were going to have dinner at this hotel in Glenelg as Stamford has always had a good reputation. The minute we entered we were appalled at the state of the hotel, it was so dirty and in need of a complete update. We decided to just have a drink and when finally securing seating the people who vacated told us the glasses etc on the table were not only theirs but the previous peoples as well. We had a lovely week in beautiful SA but would never return to this hotel

Wow, this is considered a luxury hotel? It is so outdated and damaged. Everywhere you nook there are scrapes on walls, missing skirting, chips out of doors. The front desk staff are very rude. There are no ATM facilities within this “luxury” hotel i was advised to walk down the road and then come back. The parking is ridiculous and the prices!!! It’s not Paris or London, it’s Glenelg settle down. If you want to charge these prices HAVE the facilities available like your famous pool, spa and gym facilities! Lifts wet damaged and not working. And also didn’t Telecom change to Telstra in the 1990’s? As far as room facilities, no plates, or cutlery, just a kettle and a couple of mugs. The bed was horrific after four nights I am completely ruined, I will need a chiropractic adjustment. Bed too soft and the pillows too hard. If I was staying in Glenelg again for personal reasons I wouldn’t stay here. This was for work.

  • 1/5 Mimes P. 6 months ago on Google
Pool and spa not available. Lifts have long wait times. Guests play second fiddle to functions. Tables in a bar are sticky, so is the laminated menu. Confusing directions from staff. If one is after a 4 or 5 star experience, one really needs to look somewhere else.

Stayed overnight due to work commitments, I won't be recommending this place to anyone. On top of the cost for the room was a $100 deposit per night for incidentals. I came down for breakfast at 6:45am and was told to leave because they don't open until 7:00am. Overall I found the staff appeared to be bored, rude and not really caring for the guests.

  • 1/5 Brendan S. 6 months ago on Google
The only thing this hotel has going for it is it's location. The decor is horrendously outdated and the place looks as though it's falling apart with multiple problems standing out. Firstly the lifts don't work, we had to wait 5 minutes in the lobby for one to come only to cram in with other guests, whilst many others had to wait several minutes further. The next day the lifts couldn't be called at all from the lobby and we had to wait for someone to come down to collect us. There was a T-shirt left behind in the bathroom from a previous guest which caused concern over the cleanliness of the room, with stained couches, carpets and damaged kitchenette. The AC was broken and we couldn't cool the room below 25 degrees, making the room uncomfortably hot - I would hate to experience this at the peak of the South Australian summer. The mattress on the bed was broken and both sides felt as if myself and my wife would roll out in our sleep. Staff were inatentive and unsure of the details of the package we had booked, some going as far as telling us that the meals detailed in our booking were not included. Overall save yourself the $$ and angst and book elsewhere if you can.

Male bar staff on my visit did not have a clue on how to pour a beer, totally flat and no head. Looking towards the ceiling area, it is apparent that the that the cleaners never look up ,note the fans. Mens toilet was simply a smelly mess. Overall, it needs attention to details and staff training.

Took advantage of winter package deals and had multiple family stay for the weekend. Jarrod was an excellent concierge. We went to the Mad Hatter's Tea Party during the July school holidays and adored it. We were greeted with drinks as we arrived - cute pink milk with sprinkles on the edges for the kids and sparkling wine for the adults. The room was beautifully decorated and so colourful. The High Tea was lovely and the kids enjoyed trying everything offered. It was a great opportunity to teach kids about dressing up nicely for an event and a lovely kid friendly safe space to try to teach table manners while out of the house. We had someone who is vegan in our group and that was well managed and catered just by noting it when we made our booking. Many thanks to Jade and the team.

Breakfast was sub-standard and took forever. We waited a half an hour for fruit salad and granola and a tub of youghurt. The granola must have been pre-hisoric. The so-called fruit salad was mainly cantaloupe. The worse thing was that people who came in after us were served well before us. For all this we had to pay $40.00. Was not what we expected.

Want to have this platform to thank the whole staff for saving my THE-DAY. Specially the manager. My Birthday could not have been better. The best service and kind gesture of help made my day. The grand bar of Hotel serves the best cocktails. So smooth and blended at best. Good food generous quantity too. Thankyou for all the things

Breakfast was a 5 star it was beautiful, excellent service and breakfast was actually served hot at a hotel. Great variety and staff went above and beyond. The room was a little dated but very clean and comfortable. I had cut myself quite late and front desk was so lovely they came up quickly with a band aid. The service from staff was exceptional and such a pleasure. I have stayed in a lot of hotels in Adelaide since Covid and I would say the best service and breakfast I have received, also the cleanest room I've been in which is why I gave a 5. The only thing that let it down was the lock was broken on the sliding door and the mattress was really firm and springy.

  • 3/5 Nicki P. 2 years ago on Google
We thought the hotel is in a wonderful location and very good amenities. We had a terrace room that had a part view of the sea. The slatted fence that divided the rooms had gaps therefore we could see the other guests when they were on the terrace and smelled the smoke when a person was smoking. All staff from the reception to the housekeepers were all polite, pleasant and helpful. There were only two coat hangers in the wardrobe and I phoned to request more and they arrived in next to no time. The room was clean and generously well stocked with tea and coffee each of the six nights we stayed. Our big disappointment was the king size bed. From our perspective it was poor quality, soft and a bit springy and not the usual firm and comfortable king bed we usually find in the hotels we stay at when we travel. Also there seemed to be a waterproof protector that made the bed hot and the sheet slid around. We enjoyed our stay although it would have felt more luxurious with the usual standard of bed we are used to sleeping in at hotels.

Great staycation! Best to get a room on the top floors with ocean views. Nice big standard rooms & very comfy king size beds. Highly recommended. Fantastic location with a great number of surrounding cafes & restaurants. Even the hotel's restaurant, The Promenade dished out delicious food. Will book there again.

Great location and excellent Ocean Views. Make sure you request a room where the windows open. Rooms and lifts a bit dated, but overall pretty good. We received outstanding service from Richelle. Glenelg beach 🏖 is clean and superb, and you must check out the North Indian Curry House in Jetty Rd!

The view is amazing but otherwise the hotel needs a serious freshen up and revamp. The rooms and everything about them are so outdated, old school and dirty. Next time would stay at a nicer, modern, updated, fresh hotel even if it meant not having the beautiful view. Over priced for what you get. Stayed for our honeymoon but definitely wasn’t honeymoon worthy.

As you walk up to the entrance you are greeted by staff who happily help with luggage. Then check in to room which staff are more than accommodating in make sure you know where to go and what's available. The room it self was cosy and welcoming(although slightly outdated) it certainly didn't take away from the view that we were met with on the eleventh floor. The only thing I could really fault on which is more of a each to their own kind of thing, was the room service menu. There wasn't a great selection at but it definitely did not hinder our stay in any way. All in all a great place with amazing staff.

We paid for a grand retreat package which included the king suite, x2 cocktails, seafood tower and buffet breakfast. Overall it was a enjoyable stay. The room itself was comfortable, clean. Loved the cocktails we picked out, Japanese slipper yum. The seafood tower was purely an entrees for myself and my husband. If you expect it to fill you up you will be disappointed. The biggest disappointment was the crab was clearly not fresh but was frozen before hand. The meat was mushy and watery, so much so we gave up trying to eat it. It was also freezing in the restaurant at this time of year. Make sure you dress warmly. The menu itself doesn't have much variety and the steak was $62 a pop. We ended up going to a pizza joint which was so good. Overall the entire hotel I feel really needs some love such as a fresh coat of paint. For what we paid it was good but would only pay for room and buffet breakfast

  • 3/5 Chris Y. 1 year ago on Google
Had lunch there today. We arrived about 1.30pm. Got directed to a table facing the beach, nice. Had their lunch special at $22.00 plus a glass of wine at $3.00. The mussels seafood pasta was plain and I didn't like the defrosted calamari, no taste and chewey. My partner had their pan fried sardines, three pieces of sardines. It is OK for the price. Service is poor. We were left waiting for the water when assigned to the table, but the waiter disappeared with no body in the dinning room at all. Took him a long time to reappear. The same thing happened when we left, no body in the dinning room to accept payment. I could have left without paying.

Location and view were amazing. Sadly though the room service menu was rather disappointing. The breakfast buffet was rather expensive and the hot foods were only just warm. The bed wasn’t as comfortable as the last time we stayed at the Grand. Also a couple of chairs on the balcony would’ve been an idea. Noticed that the room next to ours had seating on the balcony. Would I stay here again, sadly I think not. The quality of service has dropped from the last time I was a guest at the Grand.

The hotel is in a great location but it is tired. Lumpy sofas in reception. Dirty toilets, filthy carpark lobby. There was even someone sleeping there. The pillows are sad, the room chairs stained, window latch broken and cardboard used to jamb it in place. Peeling wall paper, just old and not maintained. They put a $1200 hold on our credit card and took the best part of a week to release it without telling us. The steak at dinner was $42 and was over cooked and the side didn't arrive. Not worth the price for the accommodation or the food. Breakfast was good.

Amazing sunset view. Old school and outdated but their room is good sized, bathroom is well renovated. However the parking lot is so sketchy, I don’t recommend using the staircases - just use a car path. Saw a couple of poor homeless were sleeping, if you are alone/female at night this won’t be feeling safe. Also the staircase lights weren’t working which makes extra scary. Except for the parking lot, we enjoyed our stay.

Not so "Grand" but nice place .but tired inside .tried three times to get a seat by pool only a few out and none in the cupboard. Would have been good to pool side balcony but locked😕. Bar was full so couldn't get a seat and cocktails bar ( which would have been great spot )did not open till evening. Location is great and staff are good just not the rating I expected as friends had said it was the place to stay in Glenelg

Had a great stay here. Enjoyed visiting the Horizons Cocktail Lounge for drinks before dinner. Huge selection of foods at the buffet breakfast including hot breakfast, cold cuts, pastries, pancakes, fruit, pancakes etc. Room was clean and the view was great even on the city side. Pool and spa with poolside drinks available

A quiet expensive place to stay, and the hotel itself is starting to look a little on the tired side, but the location is unmatched. Restaurants and shopping is plentiful and diverse. Most of the access doors to the hotel from the beach side seem to be locked, so the only access appears to be from the main entrance or back of the hotel. Staff seem nice and efficient and roo.s are clean and well presented.

  • 3/5 Crystal s. 1 year ago on Google
Venue and accommodation was well presented. Canapes, chocolate dipped strawberries and breakfast in the morning was dreadful and disgusting. My partners omelette had chunks of uncooked red onion in it, and it wasn't written on the omelette ingredients, i had full breakfast eggs were runny as requested but whites barely cooked and egg still cold, bacon like jerky, mushrooms looked like saggy balloons, tomato was very dry and beans were cold like the rest of the meal and the cold 'sourdough' toast wasn't even pleasant to eat. For the amount of stars and money you pay for this room package was pretty pathetic. Staff were professional but not pleasant to talk to. Won't be back.

I love being able to stay at this Hotel. Apart from needing an 'in room microwave', it has everything I need. Staff are friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is just lovely. Due to the cost difference through weeks, it is unachievable to stay when in Adelaide, which is a lot at the moment

Realised after check out that I had left almost $50 worth of chocolate in the fridge in my room. Phoned reception the same day and was told that housekeeping did not report finding anything and there is nothing they can do. Not the level of dishonesty I would expect from this hotel. Someone is clearly enjoying those chocolates tonight.

We love staying here, it’s traditional and so is the service which we appreciate. The Family Staycation deals they have are great when travelling with kids and the pool is so suitable for them too. Stay on the Ocean Side for the more updated rooms - it’s worth it, and the views are beautiful. I often stay for convenience to and from the airport as a frequent flyer, and it’s a far more convenient option than staying city-side. Most of all I love the ambience of the Horizons Bar. Lovely cocktails, warm subdued surrounds, and generally peaceful. Will continue to stay again.

Good hotel in beautiful old building. Rooms are a little dated but are very spacious and clean. Buffet breakfast was really yummy with lots of things to choose from and good value for $25. Glenelg is a great area to stay in, lots going on, but the hotel is close to tram for a quick 40 ride into the city.

Check in was delayed some what. Despite parking in the drop off area there wasn't a concierge service to assist with bags. The hotel retains some of the beautiful features of the old building, including the cocktail bar. However, the front bar could easily be a fish monger, and appears tacky by comparison. In the room the amenities are good, with walk in shower. It would be appreciated if there were more clothes hangers. With many attractions close by, this is an ideal spot to stay. Suprisingly, many rooms are available here, even during Tour Down Under

Can I start by saying that the staff were faultless. Very very accommodating and friendly. The food too was amazing. The breakfast buffet is so good. We had some issues with bookings going wrong and did not get the ocean views we had requested and were promised, and some other minor issues like being locked out of our rooms before check out time but these were very fairly compensated and dealt with. Massive thanks and kudos to the duty manager Josh. Such a fair and nice man. We paid good money for one of the top suites on the top floor in a supposed 5 star hotel. The sauna was not working and had not been for some time, cigarette butts in alcoves, corroded and dilapidated bathrooms, filthy windows and missing linen on check in, lamps not working e.t.c e.t.c The poor staff are obviously overworked and understaffed and the rooms were very very far from how they are advertised online. It's quite deceptive actually. We were shocked after seeing the pictures online compared to the reality we found once we got our room. I just want to reiterate the staff were all so brilliant and could have not been asked for more than they gave. But THIS IS NO 5 star hotel. That is deceptive and so are the pictures they advertise. Wish I could leave the pictures I have to share. Pretty horrible. We would never go back if it were not for the staff and the concessions they made for us, including future discounts and free meals e.t.c, e.t.c and even then we are unsure
