Just had one of the worst meals of my life here, we got one of the share platters and barely anything on it was appealing. Ordered two pina coladas and what we got was a room temp plastic cup of coconut water with a shot in it. One of our friends left early because he was feeling ill. I mean just look at these sad looking chicken wings…

Hate to leave a bad review, but this bar has potential so I feel it needs to be said that this place really needs a thorough deep clean. It was SO dirty, i moved spots twice in the beer garden - which has a cool vibe really, if it weren’t for the months of sticky liquor and beer residue on all the couches and seats. The cushions I didn’t even want to touch and the tables were so gross I instantly regretted my decision to have lunch here. You would think cleanliness would be at an all time high, especially given the times we are living in and the state of the world. 🤦🏽‍♀️ I mean, just wipe things down. It ain’t that hard. PS food was okay. Used to be much better.

Popped in for a quick drink and ending up staying for the pizza break special, at that price it's insane not to. Service was great and pizza was so much better than expected. I can see now why it was so busy. Such a pleasant surprise and will be going back for more of the weekly specials definitely

Had very good meals for work lunch (pictured). We were lucky to get a table as the seniors packed the place out to get their lunch deal, so recommend booking. Very good wine list for a pub, good selection of beers. Pleasant atmosphere, good amenities.

It is very quiet in the afternoon but comes alive after 5.30. The atmosphere is great. It's really enjoyable, unlike many other pubs.

This Hotel at The Bay, has a very pleasant Nautical Theme, with spacious Indoor and Outdoor Dining areas and a Gaming area with new games. Plenty of great food and beverage to select from the Menus all at a fair price.

Entree of chicken wings was decent. Not the best ive had but good for pub food. The reason for my bad review though is the abhorrent main/special. The rib eye. To sum it up a 40 dollar steak that came out bone dry, slightly overcooked and worst of all with zero seasoning and no crust (Grill marks not a maillard reaction). The kind of cooking that thouroughly reminded me of my stepdads burnt unseasoned barbeques as a kid. 40 dollars is an okay price for a rib eye but this was just rubbish treatment of something that is supposed to be a special treat. As for the simpler meals like the calamari and the chicken burger it was just okay. Again seamingly under-seasoned and i could swear the calamari was just some freezer bag calamari, which for a pub? fine. But with the prices of a nicer bistro? Not really on. Overall if youre a heavy drinker or smoker or tradie who cant really taste much anymore anyway im sure this would be a great spot to have a beer, a schnitzel and a spin on the slots. The staff was okay. While ordering the young lady was friendly enough but during and after our meals and even the tables around us no one came to ensure or ask how the food and atmosphere was. which is worrying and possibly a sign that they dont really care much about the quality? At first glance it seems it could be good or okay, but was left feeling thoroughly let down and glad i got to at least have some chicken wings instead of leaving hungry. Feels a bit harsh typing this out so sorry for that but i feel as though i need to leave this feedback at least in the hopes that maybe some of my issues could be thought about for the future. Always feel sour leaving a place knowing that I in all likeliness wont be coming back to

Had a meal here for a friend’s birthday celebration and it was quite nice having a spacious room for the birthday guests. Really nice vibe throughout, doesn’t have the pub feel. Food was good, I had a Caesar salad and my husband had the vegan burger. The only thing we didn’t like was the way in which the meals came out- staff would yell out names of the meals and people would put up their hands if it was theirs. I have not ever experienced such service before. All other restaurants, cafes and pubs I’ve eaten at there has been a more professional system of serving food to the customer. Update few years later: Had lunch here and it was the best fish & chips meal I’ve had! The portion size was very generous.

Can't go wrong with the steak as well as the Fish & Chips. I had the George Whiting and it was delicious. Good ambience, lots of space between tables to give you privacy. And can have live music as well on some of the weekends. Ample parking available and it's a short walk to the Glenelg beach. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

What a fabulous venue! The restaurant section had a warm & inviting atmosphere. Exceptional service. Both myself and the two other people I dined with thought our meals were delicious, represented quality & good value. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever and I am happily recommending The Holdy as a place to go to for dinner.

Called in here on a very rainy day (the worst since 1977 apparently). They serve liquid sunshine. Didn't have food, but it looked good enough. I tried several of the local beers just to be sociable and found they had an unusual effect on my knees. So in the interests of fellow travellers I went back a couple of days later and I can say it worked wonders for my stiff knees. Almost miraculous.

Relaxed atmosphere with a nautical theme. Saturday night crowd was a mix of young and old, with several large friend and family groups. Chef’s special menu and the regular menu offered a wide range of classics like steaks and lamb shanks, pub favourites such as schnitzels, burgers & pizzas as seafood laksa, a Moroccan style pork fillet and lamb chops. Portions are generous and plated nicely. Service was prompt and cheerful. Oh, mustn’t forget the extensive wine list by the glass and bottle.

I went with a group of 30 for Xmas lunch. They had a specials menu so I chose the chicken schnitzel for $17.90 which seemed a great price until it arrived at the table. It was basically an oversized chicken nugget.Put that with a pint of hard solo at $12.60 it was a total rip off.

Flavours were rich and textures were amazing. Cocktails were really yummy too, I had the springtime splice. Staff were friendly, patient and helpful. Atmosphere was nice not too loud even with the crowds. The furniture was nicely spaced and the ship feel decor was really well done and not over the top..

The service when we went in for lunch on a Wednesday, was hit and miss. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed. It is always very busy, but the good amount of soft furnishings the noise levels are controlled. The very young lady who greeted and sat us was lovely and friendly, and then unfortunately another very young woman who served me at the bar when I was ordering coffee, was rude, bored and surly. She was very unfriendly. She may have been having a bad day. The meals we had were lovely. My arancini were delicious and hot, perfect, and the zucchini chips were a great dish to try, healthy style hot chips. The seniors meals were substantial and tasty and satisfying as well. The seniors deals are great value and well thought out. The food came out quickly as well. I would recommend coming here but, some of the young staff need further training in the art of service and hospitality.

Didn’t have a great experience. My husband and I both ordered the deconstructed beef Wellington. The beef was very tough and it only came with a small disc of puff pastry, some asparagus and a mushroom which I don’t consider good value for $34. I couldn’t eat my steak it was so tough and I was still hungry so I ordered an apple slice for dessert. This took ages to arrive and was absolutely tiny with that horrible aerated cream out of a can. Again not good value for money. Overall very disappointed. When I complained about the steak being tough, the waitress just said “oh sorry”. No offer of a replacement or a partial refund. Not good enough. Won’t be going back in a hurry.

Went for dinner on a Friday night, 6 of us, not many people there. Worst chicken wings ever. They put something on top, maybe garlic, but there was no seasoning what so ever in the coating. And they left the tip on, which is not attractive or edible. 2 had the coconut prawns which they said lacked flavour and the rice was gluggy. Only 2 small prawns on the seafood trio.

Great first dining experience here. Food was excellent and very generous serving size. Thanks to the staff who made our visit so enjoyable. We will definitely go back.

20 men meeting each month for lunch. After July lunch, one man in hospital for 5 days, another under medical supervision for 3 days, both with food poisoning from fish dinner. An email and a phone call to the manager were both ignored. Just an apology would have been nice. Staff, service and atmosphere has dropped since change of Bistro manager. We won’t be back. We now go around the corner where we are treated as valuable patrons - and no-one was crook after lunch.

Not as good as it used to be. Could always rely on good varied menu options and tasty meals but recently it isn't as good. Kids portions are very small and menu prices have gone up a lot for dishes that aren't that great

Overall it wasn't bad but not great. Staff service was excellent so earned a star for that and the atmosphere is also quite pleasant. The seating we had was not overly comfortable and contemplated changing chairs but "sat tight" Meals, although with a reasonable range missed the mark slightly for one reason or another. At least if you order a rare steak, you get it BUT steak on top of chips on an undersized plate just results in food spilling on the table. My pork dish, although sounding good, was dry and resulted in a repeated taste for several hours following. Tip: stick to the pub basics

Mixed bag tonight. Had a group of 16 for dinner tonight. 1/3 of the meals where taken back to the kitchen to be re made. And 2/3 had yummy meals. Mine was porter house steak which was yummy. The waitress did not have a smile and she slammed the plates down rudely. We waited quiet a long time getting our meals.

Food was lovely. Service good, but female staff member who was tilling my bill didn't listen when discussing what I was paying for, despite me telling her twice that we'd not had a particular dish!!! She overcharged me $28 which the lovely, but exasperated barman then had to refund!! It was refunded quickly, but I was also frustrated with the girl who originally did the bill, it was lucky that a print out was given. Next time I'll add it up before going to pay!!!!!!

Such a shame to experience the restaurant changes to a downward slide into the new image "Star" pub's obvious deliberate target mass market . The pricey menu doesn't match the image & disappointed to see new wine list, particularly by the glass, is now mundane & unappealing. That's OK, go for it, we more discriminating locals do have choices. Good luck.

Would not advise anyone to plan a function through this venue. Attended an engagement party here and everything that my friend was responsible for- top notch; everything the venue was responsible for - subpar. It's like they forgot there was an event on! Arrived at the start time and the bar hadn't been stocked and there was just one staff member so the lineup was ever-growing. Food didn't start coming out until well into the night and even then, it was not the full menu that had been requested as there were dietary needs not met and just overall, not enough food for the amount of people there. Staff hadn't even cleaned the event space and I saw confirmation through a previous review that no, staff had not stopped people from dining in the space during the allocated set-up time. Couldn't even arrange to do the bare minimum. In short, completely unprofessional.

Beef shnitzel with pepper sauce. Tasted great, chips were crispy with a nice flavour, salad was ok. A well rounded meal for $21. Off street parking.

A belated family dinner for father's Day, our son took us out for dinner. The meals were very generous in size and all of us really enjoyed our meals. We tried the southern fried chicken, the brisket special, the schnitzel and the garlic prawns . Everything was delicious. For dessert we tried the brownie special, sticky date pudding and the chocolate sundae. These were also yummy and we were so full we just about rolled out of there. Staff were courteous and friendly and service was quick.
