Finally got to visit this place. This place is always full. Took my wife for Valentines here. Excellent service and food. I was not disappointed! Very professional restaurant. Even the bathroom was clean! The only negative was the cold weather and bad parking. I guess it's normal for Royal oak. I had the land and sea and my wife had the lobster tail. Both excellent food. Perfectly seasoned. Highly recommended!

I wish I could review the food, but we never got a chance to eat here. Tom’s has an online reservation system through Open Table, which I used. I then called to confirm that we would be able to sit outside, which they said they would accommodate if possible. No problem. We arrived 10 minutes before our reservation time, only to see that one couple was just getting their drinks, and another couple was being seated. No more outdoor tables. No big deal, we will sit inside right? Then we talk to the server to find out that they actually don’t use their reservation system, and they are waiting list only. We were at the back of the line for that waiting list. What was the point of making a reservation, and calling, only to see that none of it mattered? We decided to go somewhere else. All of this would be somewhat understandable, if we had not walked by last night only to see a “Reserved” sign on a table outside! Definitely not too happy with the whole situation. I would hope in the future they remove their reservation system if they are not using it.

August 2022 - came here on a double date. They have a bar and outside seating. Great place and food was good. I ordered the Perch dinner and it was good. Wish I had more potatoes and coleslaw. We did the Salt Life Sampler. Shrimp was good. Wife ordered the Berried Treasure and she liked it. Comes with smoke from the dry ice. I highly recommend you come here and try it once.

I've heard a ton about this place so I was really excited to try it out! Really amazing food, I especially loved the soup I got. We were able to get outdoor seating despite being walk-ins on a Sunday afternoon which was amazing. Our waiter was super nice, as was everyone else. Definitely coming back in the future to try some of their cocktails out.

The food was great. The oysters were fresh and good, I loved the volcano roll. The only issue was that damn waitress was too touchy feely. She touched my man’s back twice, thank goodness I’ve matured, or I would have gotten arrested on my birthday.

4 of us reserved a tent for dining. We had oysters Rockefeller, surf and turf, filet medallions, Spanish coffee and everything was delicious. Service was great and friendly. The tent had overhead heating. It was a bit chilly but wasn't chilly enough to ruin our evening. We'd definitely be back even in a tent again but hopefully we'll be able to dine inside soon!

Downtown on Main Street in Royal Oak, Michigan. It's just a shame that you can't find help for a restaurant. This place was fine, except for lack of wait staff, but after a couple of Tito Bloody Mary's, who cares..😹🙃. We went for a brunch, a little overpriced (for us), but the food was good. We had oysters, then breakfast. Only 1 piece of toast per breakfast, odd but okay... We had Chicken fried steak, eggs, American fries, thick cut bacon. The "best" was the oysters on a half shell.

Come here for lunch. Oysters are fresh and tasty. Share plate is good too. But the waitress was not nice at all. May be she is not happy today. We felt ignored. Not good experience. Beef was over cooked. We asked medium. Comes like well done.

Due to covid the outside setting was not comfortable my waiter forgot items on my order. Then he forgot to take off my deposit for my bill. Only thing was good was tacos and hot cocoa. And they need better heaters for the tents outside 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶

Okay so this place is really amazing! The food was really good! Like great! And oh my goodness the Oysters!! Too tier! The staff was so friendly and cool I loved everything! Adding to my rotation! The crab cakes are phenomenal and meaty okay! They are not stingy at all! Probably the best I’ve had so far! I found the location convenient for me parking was easy and the whole experience overall was 10/10

The food tastes amazing! You have to try the crab cakes and alaskan king crab legs. Once we were seated, we were greeted by our waitress, who was quick and efficient. She offered us a Spanish coffee to start, which I thought was nice. The staff works hard here to make it a great experience for you, and for that, we will most definitely be back! Beautiful place as well.

Ask for John! He is the best server hands down. Now, I do think all the staff are amazing, kind and hospitable. I went twice this week and came back because of the great food, and John is just awesome. He is so amazingly patient, and attentive and has a great vibe! I got the New England lobster roll it was excellent. The food is fresh and there is no long wait. Just a great vibe all around.

Top Notch. Our server was Brandon and we kept him hopping. He was great...not a complaint...that we were in earshot of...Lol! anyways! We had the large tower which was fantastic and tried quite a few different items from the menu. All were great. I was surprised to learn that Royal Oak is the only location now. They have opened 2 other restaurants directly next door. One is casual Burger and beer joint...then a Mexican restaurant next to that. We look forward to trying them out.

Took longer than it should have for me to write this review. But now that I'm here, just want to say what a fantastic experience we had. On arrival, the place was packed but they quickly found good seating for us. THEY WERE SO FAST!! SCALLOPS WERE DELICIOUS!! And at the end of the meal, the finest wait person you could hope for, Kim, asked if we wanted dessert. We declined and she came back with a suggestion for an after dinner drink that knocked our socks off! It was Kim's professionalism that turned the whole meal into a great memory.

Spinach salad without protein was fresh and the dressing very good. The calamari was succulent, not fried too hard and not greasy. Good food. Great vibe sitting outside. Royal Oak traffic and parking SUCKS though...

We dined on the patio. The service was really good! My friends enjoyed their fish tacos. The portion sizes were very generous! No parking was available. You will need to park on the street. Nice, cute area for strolling around on Main Street after your meal. We enjoyed ourselves.

Browns someone here to celebrate her birthday. It was a great choice. Everything was cooked perfectly and flavorful. As long as the person you are treating is happy, you have done your job right. Thank you! One note, the lobster rolls are a little dry, as opposed to the buttery Lukas lobster rolls I’ve had in Tokyo and Massachusetts.

First Time Alert! The hostess seated us right away! Our server was Chris he was >>Great!<< He made our experience even better! Very knowledgeable about both drinks & food menu.. we started off with a appetizers that came out Fast! and Spanish Coffee & Hot Cider! AMAZING!! *Kudos to the Bartender!* The runner explained what everything was on the sampler. We Also ordered Po' Boy sandwich, Cod sliders, Fish tacos and the Burgers.. everything was Delish!!! A definite Must go if in Royal Oak or close by..

Very disappointing. To start, the atmosphere was somewhat dark and gloomy. I ordered the salmon spinach salad, the plating was rather sloppy, Salmon looked like it was stuck to the grill and was tasteless, there was only about ½ teaspoon of bacon bits, the candied pecans were basically non-existent, and the dressing taste like grease. My dinner companion ordered the po-boy sandwich meal, the shrimps were cocktail, two pieces of cod two inches long, and a few oysters - EVERYTHING was overcooked and hard as a rock, and the slaw portion was chintzy at best. The fries were the star of the show. Won't be back.

  • 4/5 Destiny S. 1 year ago on Google
Wonderful food, the drinks were outstanding! I didn't give 5 stars on the review because my friend didn't like his drink and the waitress/bartender fixed it for him but when I went to the bathroom I heard her talking stuff to her coworkers about him not liking his drink. There was also a very weird terrible smell in there like spoiled milk or something and a few of the items on the menu aren't available and the waitress neglected to tell us before we were ready to order.

We were looking for a top notch place for both oysters and a lobster roll, so we were excited to find this spot. My Husband gave the oysters 8/10. He also really liked the paella- the flavor in the lobster was serious! My Lobster roll was disappointing. You have the option of choosing 1 or 2 sandwiches. ($21/ $31) The bread was tasty, but without adding all the lemon provided the lobster itself was very bland. The amount of lobster in the roll is also really lacking. Our server was nice, but service itself was very slow. Expect to spend over $100. We would possibly try this place again, but for cocktails (their cocktail list looked so great!) and oysters/apps.

Cozy vibe, old school bar, excellent service, and cocktails are made the right way. Order and old fashioned, and you're getting the real deal. Also, if you're feeling up to it, try an Oyster Shooter; think bloody marry meets an oyster, all wrapped up in one little shot glass. We enjoyed our visit and the staff took great care of us.

This is one of my favorite restaurants. Service is always good and so is the food. I love their bourbon cheesecake(which I get for free every year for my birthday) lol. The whitefish was a little bland so I added salt and lemon and it was good after. Tried oysters for the first time and they were great! If you check in on here you’ll get a free oyster. The atmosphere is always fun and friendly! I visit about 3-4 times a year.

As someone who's not a seafood enthusiast, I reluctantly joined friends at this restaurant for drinks. Unfortunately, the service left much to be desired. However, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and tried the crab cake, and I must say, it was a delightful surprise. The flavors were on point, making it a standout dish even for a non-seafood person like me.

The food and service is always great! The lake perch dinner is delicious and their house salad is splendid. The customer service has always been outstanding but on 1/1/2021, Dan went over and beyond to ensure we had a outstanding dining experience. It was cold in the tent due to the extremely cold weather but he made sure we were comfortable,. Dan personality, promptness and exceptional customer service made this a fun wintery dining experience. Dan did his best to be intentional and deliberate when providing service to customers . But no matter what you do, live life to the fullest with love and enjoy each moment. Time is not promised to any of us.

I ordered Carryout for lunch. The food took 45 minutes, and the 'large' portions were relatively small. The food was quite tasty. I would not recommend though. Not worth the price tag.

This staff and management here is incredible. I just had the worst experience at pinkies around the corner and Kim the manager here at Tom’s is accommodating my party of five with ease and politeness, The hostess Kenzie made sure to relay the message and get us a table. Thank you guys so much, you found a customer for life 😊 Also Ryan The bartender is making a major impact in my experience as well with these delicious cocktails! Lastly, the food is WAY better here anyways!!

had a little mix up where a gift card I had wasn't being read by the new POS system so I had to pay out of pocket. Came back the next day and the GM immediately made it right without a moments hesitation. Very cool and professional guy and the food was 10/10 too, will happily keep coming in the future. Good spot.

Service by Nick laid back yet attentive. Oysters awesome. Perch tasty. Potatoes a little overdone and way too salty, but hey that’s what potatoes are for, right? This place is at the top of my list for my Detroit travels.

Having moved from Chicago and asking around for a better than average fish and chips, someone told me to try Tom's. I was disappointed. Extremely bland batter. I couldn't even season it enough at home to eat it. French fries were good though.

  • 5/5 Kyndal K. 3 years ago on Google
My 5 star review is not for the restaurant, it is for Dan. They were clearly swamped but he was giving excellent customer service and working like he had 6 arms lol. This was my first time here and my experience wasn't what I expected because they didn't have the ingredients for what I wanted to order, BUT I will definitely give it 2nd chance due to the staff working hard and making the best of our visit!

It was take out, a Groupon that I bought back in march. It was supposed to be dine in only but they ordered it at stakeout due to COVID. It was a surf and turf for two, which I shared with a friend who helped me out earlier in the day. The lobster was small. it was already pulled out of the tail which made it very easy to eat. The sirloin was a delicious, as was the lobster tail. The mashed potatoes were excellent. I also ordered clam chowder and enjoyed it as well. My only complaint is that the servings were a bit small but I guess this was a heavily discounted meal so we'll let that pass. The net is that I will go again.

  • 4/5 Chris G. 3 years ago on Google
I enjoyed my night at Tom Oyster Bar, the atmosphere was laid back and nice. We only ordered appetizers and relaxed at the bar. The bartender was SUPER FRIENDLY (Randy). He refilled are drinks with no delay and made us laugh. I would give this place 5 Stars, the only problem was the wait to get in. For main dining it was 2 to 3 hours wait if you didn't have a reservation. So that's why we ate at the bar which was about a half a hour wait. The appetizers were good! We will go back.
