Bababudangiri is an amazing trek in the mountains of Chikmagalur, located at a distance of 250 km from Bangalore. It's a very good trek point on the weekends. From here you can see the peaks of Budangiri and Mullayanagiri looming at a distance. Together, the two mountains appear like a crescent moon, therefore known as the Chandra Drona Range. The Budangiri mountain is also an important pilgrimage for Hindus and Muslims for the legacy of the Sufi saint Baba Budan and the Hindu deity Dattatreya. Some of the highlights of this trek are- walking on the Blade Ridge on the way to Mullayanagiri, camping and campfire in the forest clearings, ancient cave explorations, and stunning hellscape photography from several viewpoints along the way. The Blooming of the kurinji flowers on the low-lying slopes of the Nilgiris is a rare seasonal attraction in these parts of the hills. The flowers blossom at an interval of every 12 years, cloaking the entire vicinity in shades of blue, giving the Nilgiri hills its name!

Timings : 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM Time Required : 5 - 6 hours If caves and trekking are what you desire, Bababudangiri is the perfect place for you to visit. The trek to Baba Budangiri is a moderate level trek that spans a distance of 9 to 10 kilometers and can be completed in approximately 5 – 6 hours and can be completed in 2 phases. The best time for the trek is anytime between September to March as the weather remains mostly pleasant during the day. Do not park your vehicle on the road or side of the road as the road is narrow and doing so will cause a traffic jam. Restrooms are available near the entry point, not well-mailnained advisable to avoid it.

Breathtaking views πŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚ We visited here on 7th after exploring Jhari Falls, but it was heavy fog, we could not even see who is standing next to us. We were late as well, it was 630 when we hit the parking spot. Could not see much we went back. The next day, we some how felt we were missing this place. We drove again from Z point to Budengiri, but bit early around 5 pm. And the Sky was allmost clear and it was amazing. There were Neelakurinji blossom, Even if it were not there, still this is a splendid place... Don't waste time in stopping on the way.... Get to top and have a great time.... Traffic jams enroute are pathetic... But you will feel blessed when you are at top.....

Beautiful hilltop. This place looks the best during mid monsoon when the lush green flora returns. You'll be amidst clouds so it's always foggy and there's plenty of precipitation. You've got to take a small 500m trek from the parking lot to get to this beautiful peak. There's plenty of places to take the most beautiful pictures and have the best views that your eyes will never forget!

Eye catching view at the top of the peak. There are many peaks in continuation of the paths but could climb only 3-4 peaks as it was not so steep and easy to climb. It's not very crowded after 3PM.

Excellent place to visit for the scenic views for other mountain side view. But place is not clean and badly maintained by users there. Road to the top is under construction and hence half the strech is not motorable too.

It’s a beautiful drive from chikamangalur town and there are beautiful hikes around, best visited soon after monsoon to enjoy the lush green beauty. The shrine is revered by 2 religions so it’s always crowded so best avoided during weekends or holidays. There are shops selling snacks and toys. The parking area is messed up and traffic is terrible that can take hours on a busy day to clear. You can rent a jeep to go to manikyadhara falls and viewpoint beyond

The view ! Oh my god ! Stunning 10 on 10 place. You must not miss this trail when in this small town of Karnataka. It's literally possible to take your vehicle to the top and trail from there to 2 different viewpoints. So pleasent, cloudy windy mixture and away from chaotic city makes you fly. Roads are scenic, there's also a small waterfall nearby for which you have to go by jeep, but it's worth it.

This has to be one of the best places i've visited. I've been to here couple of times. Once in summer and the other during monsoon. Early Summer offers you clear and cool weather with drizzles sometimes which makes it a great time to visit this place. The meadows will be green around this time. And also you don't have to worry about occasional road blocks that can happen during monsoon. There's a natural pond on the way to manikyadhara falls which is very picturesque. You can take your vehicle near this lake. The place is at an elevation around 1900m so the surrounding views are surreal. Monsoon is also a great time to visit this place if you are a fan of fog and lush green meadows

Baba Budangiri is a sacred pilgrimage spot in Chikmagalur for both the Hindu and Muslim communities. It is famous for its shrine of Hazrat Dada Hayath Mir Khalander who was a 17th century Sufi saint. The place is also notable for the caves which are believed to be once the residence of Sri Dattatreya Swamy. Baba Budangiri is one of the most picturesque places to visit in Chikmagalur and also famous among the thrill seekers for its trekking and hiking opportunities. Bababudangiri is an amazing trek in the mountains of Chikmagalur, located at a distance of 250 km from Bangalore, making it ideal for a weekend getaway. Starting on the hiking trail from Sarpadhari (alternatively from Attinagundi), you can see the peaks of Budangiri (1895 m) and Mullayanagiri (1930 m) looming at a distance. Together, the two mountains appear like a crescent moon, therefore known as the Chandra Drona Range. Baba Budangiri Temple The Baba Budangiri shrine is important to both Hindus and Muslims. You will find the grave of Baba Budan- the Sufi saint, after trekking to the flat top of hill. From the Dargah of the islamic saint, a stairwell rises up to the Dattatreya Caves- believed to be inhabited by the hindu deity Dattatreya Swami. Fascinating stories associated with these mythical figures circulate among pilgrims here. The Islamic saint is known to have been sent by the Prophet Muhamamd to India and the deity Dattatreya is believed to be the embodiment of Brahma-Vishnu-Maheshwar. You will be thrilled to hear about a peculiar connection between coffee plantations in the Nilgiri Hills and the Sufi saint coming from faraway Middle-east. Legend has it, the saint had returned from his Hajj to Mecca with seven raw cocoa beans which he planted in the soils of these mountainsides! A sweeping view of the Chikmagalur valley from the shrine can be found down below. 3 km ahead of the religious site, the Manikyadhara Falls is another brilliantly scenic place that you can check out. Baba Budangiri Trek The Baba Budangiri trek has two viable flag-off points, the trailhead at Sarpadhari and the one at Attigundi. Going by any of the routes, trekkers will first reach the Mullayanagiri mountain-- the highest peak in Karnataka and furthering from here to Baba Budangiri. The trail will demand you to carefully negotiate steep uphill stretches and walking on a moraine-filled ravine. The block cliffs of Mullayanagiri soon comes into sight after crossing Sarpadhari, surrounded by thickets of shola trees. The enthusiastic shutterbug in you has to jump to life on finding the striking contrast of resplendent green forests, and grasslands against the black rocked cliffs on this trail. Upon reaching the mountain-top, you will be greeted with a spellbinding birds-eye view of the valley lying below.
