A peaceful and beautiful structure with many stained glass windows and large and tall inside. Take note that the location is different to where Google Maps is pointing this. It is near the City Museum up the hill. A good place to take a break whilst exploring and free entry too!

(Translated by Google) The resting place of King John of the Czech Republic can be seen in the crypt. The Latin text on the tomb tells him that he was VII. Son of Emperor Henry, IV. Father of Emperor Charles and grandfather of Emperor Sigismund (and King of Hungary). (Original) János cseh király nyughelye látható a kriptában. A síremléken szerepelő latin szöveg elmondja, hogy ő volt VII. Henrik császár fia, IV. Károly császár apja és Zsigmond császár (és magyar király) nagyapja.

The cathedral is big but not decorated as much as similar ones in other cities. The altar is simple and the glazed painted windows attracts your eye. You cannot tour yourself when worship takes place and even when it doesn't, you should be extra careful not to disturb prayers. Do not forget to check the crypt.

(Translated by Google) Luxembourg Cathedral, or Luxembourg Cathedral of the Virgin Mary (Luxembourgish: Katédrale Notre-Dame, French: Kathedrale unserer lieben Frau) is a cathedral of the Roman Catholic Church in southern Luxembourg. Originally it was a Jesuit church, built in 1613-1621 by the architect J. du Block. The cathedral is a striking example of late Gothic architecture, but it contains many elements and decorations of Renaissance architecture. The cathedral is decorated with rich choirs, which contain many Moorish style elements. At the end of the XVIII century, the cathedral received a miraculous image of the Virgin Mary - the comforter of the mourners, who is the patroness of the city and the people. Now this image is located in the southern part of the temple, and is the object of pilgrimage. Every year, on the fifth Sunday after Easter, a day is celebrated here in honor of the Blessed Virgin of Luxembourg. About 50 years later, the cathedral was consecrated as the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary, and in 1870 by Pope Pius IX as the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary - Our Lady, at which time the cathedral became the residence of the Bishop of Luxembourg. The cathedral houses many sculptures, the crypt-tomb of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, the entrance to which is guarded by two bronze lions, as well as the tomb of the King of Bohemia and Count of Luxembourg John the Blind. In the period from 1935 to 1939 the cathedral was reconstructed.

Lovely and beautifully gorgeous gothic style cathedral. The entrance is carefully crafted with an exterior that glows in the soft morning sun. The crypts holds beautifully constructed resting places and bright stained glasses that filter the sun into rays of colours. Impressive architecture

This beautiful Jesuit's Cathedral was built in 1613 with mixed gothic and Renaissance architecture. It contains the graves of the Grand Dukes and Grand Duchesses of Luxembourg. What the most eye-catching feature of the building is the glass stained windows with the story of Jesus Christ.

A free place to visit, a nice quite church with no queues and a nice gothic interior, very similar to the ones you can find around paris. I liked the art inside and the organ. It is a bit dark inside though.

To begin with, the current Google map location is *wrong*.. The cathedral is really beautiful. We visited Luxembourg during New Year's and we were able to visit the mass as well. The gothic architecture and pretty indoors are just something to look at over and over. They also decorated the church for the occasion.

A very beautiful and peaceful place. The tainted glass windows are wonderful, and the overall architecture is well worth the visit. A small detail: they have chairs instead of benches. The organ looks amazing, it must be awesome to hear it play.

I cannot remember this church ever closing. Well, maybe when someone important gets married, baptized, or dies. I make it a point to stop by to light a candle for loved ones when I’m in the city. It’s certainly a place to visit if you want to cool down from the heat and don’t want to sit at a cafe feeling more warm and several euros poorer. The cathedral is clean, quiet, free, and beautiful IMO even though I do not know a lot about architecture medieval, modern, or what have you.

The oldest part of the present Cathedral of Our Lady o/ Luxem. bourg has its origins in the church of the former Jesuit college, Up to the present day they have formed a unity in terms of cir planning. In 1594 Jesuits from the Belgian province of their order settled in Luxembourg, which was then part of the Spanish Netherlands. In 1603 they opened a college in the fortified town of Luxembourg. It was enlarged several times and held an almost unique position in the education of the young until 1773. As the founders of this college and because of their intense missionary presence in all the social classes, the Jesuits were the true promoters of the reforma- tion within the church in Luxembourg in the 17th century. During the rectorate of Father Franziskus Aldenardus, the fast expansion of the Jesuits' activities in the town of Luxembourg led to the foundation of a large monastic and college church on 7'* Nay 1613. From an architectural point of view it belongs to the group of Belgian Jesuit churches significant to the history of art in tie seventeenth century. ¡The plan of the church was drawn up by Brother Jean du Blas TIE92-IcEd fram the Monactar irai The lacuit churches

Luxembourg: a Beautiful Destination Positive review about Luxembourg Luxembourg is a beautiful country with a lot to offer. It is a small country located in the heart of Europe, bordered by France, Germany, and Belgium. Despite its size, Luxembourg is a country with a rich history and culture, and it has become a popular destination for tourists from around the world. One of the things that make Luxembourg such a great place to visit is its stunning natural beauty. The country is home to many beautiful forests, valleys, and mountains, and the scenery is truly breathtaking. The Mullerthal region, also known as the "Little Switzerland" of Luxembourg, is a must-see destination for nature lovers. Luxembourg is also a great place for those interested in history and culture. The country has a rich history, and there are many historic sites and museums to explore. The city of Luxembourg, which is the capital of the country, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is home to many historic landmarks, including the Old Town, the Grand Ducal Palace, and the Notre Dame Cathedral. Another great thing about Luxembourg is its food and drink. The country is famous for its wine, and there are many great vineyards and wineries to visit. Luxembourgish cuisine is also something that visitors should try, with dishes such as Judd mat Gaardebounen (smoked pork with broad beans) and Kachkéis (cheese spread) being local favorites. Overall, Luxembourg is a wonderful country to visit, with its beautiful natural scenery, rich history and culture, and delicious food and drink. Whether you're interested in exploring the outdoors, learning about history and culture, or simply relaxing and enjoying the local cuisine, Luxembourg is a great place to do it all.

Impressive large Cathederal Notre-Dame in Luxembourg. The inside is filled with mixed colors of light as the sun shines through the stained glass windows, just so beautiful. The altar is quite different from other cathederals I have seen in Europe with multiple red candle holders hanging on each side of the altar. The pipe organ is impressive as well, there are separate sets of pipes on multiple walls if the structure. Would love to experience that sound. There is a crypt downstairs with multiple burial sites and an altar, quite plain compared to the upstairs altar. Beautiful structure to visit and spend time quietly as you take in all of this Cathederal.

Good preservation (and renovation) of the Gothic era. It also makes you aware of how much influence that Christendom had in medieval Europe.

  • 5/5 Dicky S. 3 years ago on Google
So classical but seems to be recently restored or continuously maintained. There are 2 access doors to this cathedrale: front door is in the main road but you can just go out through the back door and continue walking towards the city centre. The altar area is so fancy with those gold-colored ornaments and statues. A pipe organ stands in the aft. I saw nobody taking a picture when I was there but I thought someone should do this, so I did 1 shot. Lord have mercy if I did wrong for the sake of the future tourists' interest.

It was closed on the 1st day but managed to get in the next day. Leaving a review for Luxemborg as a whole. It is clean and pristine that its unreal, looks like just out of a fairy tale book. Highly recommend to visit this place. Very close notre dame is Mcdonalds and over there it's a square where you will find all sorts of cuisine and yes try the shrimps from Mcdonalds, yes you read it write shrimps from McDonalds it's to die for. Also if you are carrying a bottle there is a free refill fountain outside mcdonalds erected by the local council!! Also, if you are driving then stay in hilton by doubletree they always have offers and I will let you in a secret, I was told by staff member to park outside Hilton hotel where it says Taxi, the space is owned by Hilton. Avoid parking on the street, you will get a ticket it's only for residents. If you use Hilton's car park it's about 13 euros a day!!
