The food was great, the service exquisite. Better for you to have a reservation even on Mondays, this place has a great menu to choose from, hostess was amazing and made sure we got everything we needed. We got the Tesla roll and also the Kings. Both of them were just amazing and super tasty. The presentation was good, but my party were to hungry and forgot to take pics before we started eating. Definitely coming back. The oysters omg they were just a great choice. Give BIG STARS. Thank you.

We had the most amazing and memorable experience here, this is truly the best sushi in Sacramento. We tried a variety of items from the menu and everything was fantastic and presented beautifully. So first off, make reservations atleast a week in advance. After you've done that and you are in fact seated at your table, know you are in good hands, everything on the menu is amazing. There is a set menu to order from, as well as a specials menu that changes daily. We ordered from both and were not disappointed! I cannot wait to return to Kru, they absolutely know what they're doing!

Omakase is where it is at. The sushi is incredible, the service top notch, but sitting at that counter with the chef catering your evening, priceless experience. Every thing Billy gave us was incredibly delicious, the sake he recommended was paired perfectly with every single piece served. Presentations of our food was so pleasing and tasted just like it appeared. We’ve came twice for this experience and can’t wait or come again, I highly recommend.

Best Japanese restaurant in Downtown Sac. I loved their service. The waiters and waitresses were really nice and the food came out really quickly too (we visited them as soon as they were open). Also when you order sake, they let you pick a shot glass that you like from variety selection of shot glasses. It was the best service that I got from any restaurant in a while. I highly recommend this place if you planning date night or fancy dinner.

Now that’s my favorite sushi place! Every sushi roll that we ordered was delicious. I recommend King roll, Tesla roll, Sunshine roll and Poke Trio. Beautiful, modern and very clean place. It’s important for me in America :D

Loved this sushi spot! There is a bit of a wait, but I’d say it was well worth it. The servers and sushi chefs were lovely. Every dish was delicious, so unique and beautifully presented. I especially loved the Kings Sushi Roll (the citrus made it unique and refreshing) and the Hamachi Kama (melted in my mouth, so delicious). Highly recommend this spot! Perfect date spot.

Fantastic experience! The food, service and ambience was impeccable. Several veg/vegan options - had the vegetable tempura and Midtown roll which were delicious. Plenty of sake options and various desserts - the carrot ginger cake was sublime. Still or sparkling water is offered complimentary, and walk-ins typically have a wait time of 30-90 minutes. Highly recommend a visit if you’re in downtown Sacramento, and book in advance!

Everything was delicious- from drinks to dessert. The rolls needed no soy sauce or wasabi. Everything was amazing. The service was above and beyond; John behind the bar and our server Taylor CSF extensive menu knowledge, a great attitude, and the ability to describe everything that came out

This place is special! Everything from the service, libations and most importantly the food. We tried a little of everything but wish we could have had more. If you’re a purveyor of fine Japanese then this is the place. I want to say more, but you just have to experience it yourself. Definitely worth checking out! One of my new favorites.

Came here on a spontaneous sushi night dinner and food was amazing. Ive been here before but felt as if my experience on this particular visit allowed me to enjoy everything better. We sat at the sushi bar & our waiter made great suggestions! The duck dumpling was really good but I’d say it’s a bit pricey at $9-$10 considering it’s just a small bite/ single serving. Overall I’d say its one of my best sushi experiences in nor cal area (and I’ve had sushi at many places) but it is on the pricey side. Our tab was for two was about $260 (ordered enough food for 3-4) and maybe $100 of that was for drinks. I’d definitely recommend it!

Went here for an early birthday dinner and loved it! I would give this place more than five stars if I could. Their seasonal specials and sushi were nothing short of exceptional. They have a great wine list and even better hospitality. Reservations are highly recommended!

Beautifully modern and organic ambiance. Very open and clean, we sat at the bar and it was perfect to see all of the action of the waiters and waitresses busy at work on cuisine and beverages. Chairs weren’t comfy, that is my only complaint. The veggie roll was good, too much lettuce IMO, but still nice. Tamagoyaki was delicious and sweet, tastes like German pancakes. Not too many options for vegetarians unfortunately. Yes, soup, the midtown roll, and tamagoyaki, but that’s it. I’m sure they would accommodate, but it’s structured for carnivores. My guy loves anything from the ocean so he naturally ordered the sashimi while the ppl behind the counter gasped at how much raw fish he could eat LOL. Never gets old when I go out with him. 🍣 They do have a tv going for sports at the bar if you enjoy watching sports while eating at the bar.

Best Japanese restaurant in Sacramento (and arguably alot of other Northern California cities)! Excellent / unique cocktail menu (go for the open sesame if you like a palate cleanser). High quality fish and you cannot go wrong with anything you order. I’d recommend sticking to sashimi/nigiri as their specialty (the goldeneye snapper and sea bream are my fav!) For a special occasion- splurge on their omakaze for an unforgettable time!

Very impressed with this place. Sat at the bar, which is spacious and with nice and comfortable chairs. The service team took really good care of us there. They have a nice selection of cocktails, wine, sake and other items. We went for the cocktails which were very creative and delicious. Since it was our first time here, we asked for recommendations, which were on point and a great selection to do the first taste. The food was fresh, with unique flavors and plentiful. The originality of the different entrees was superb and certainly much appreciated. A point of note, this is an expensive place. Dinner for 2 was ~$200. Also anyone wanting to dine there is recommended to make reservations at least 2 weeks in advance unless you want to seat at the bar when spaces are available. Overall, awesome spot, will be going back.

My wife and I go here twice a year. It is our "Go To" for special occasions. Amazing food as always and Wonderful drinks. We went for my birthday this past weekend and the menu never fails to impress. I do think the menu needs some new items though as we've just about tried everything and we are definitely looking forward to something new to keep it fresh. Nevertheless, it was great and I can't wait to get back again soon!

Definitely worth the money. What a find in Sacramento! Personal touch with sushi chat dedicated to just a few tables. Should sit at the sushi bar of no more than 3 people to get a more personable experience. Bone marrow was outstanding. Order the nigiri menu to get the freshest of the day. Can skip the lobster tempura. Uni was super fresh. Sashimi tapas was also awesome. Will make sure to revisit next time I go to Sacramento.

Nice upscale Japanese restaurant in the heart of Sacramento. They have an awesome selection of fresh fish, including the three fatty parts of tuna (chutoro, toro) and fresh king salmon from New Zealand. Large selection of sake and Japanese whiskey. The server took his time explaining the menu and was very knowledgeable about both food and drink menus. We were able to choose our sake cup which was a fun little option they provide for customers. He also made sure to relay my food allergies to the kitchen and every dish that came out, the food runner mentioned that the chefs avoided cross contamination and wiped surfaces down before preparing the dish for me. Definitely make a reservation because they are super busy, especially on weekends. The only downside for us was having to wait to be seated, despite having a reservation. We still had to wait 15 min before getting to our table.

I know everywhere is struggling with the new normal of covid and the process and procedures. Tried to go support this local business as I've always enjoyed their food. Tried to call ahead for a reservation but there was no answer. Showed up and the hostess was unaccommodating and asked if we had a reservation... I asked if I should have left a message and she said "no, you have to just keep calling". It was 6:00 and they had about five empty tables and she mentioned they had to keep them empty because reservations were coming at 7 and it takes 2 hours for dinner. Just bizarre, I would've been ok selecting our dinner quickly and getting in and out in an hour, they could've turned another table before the other reservations come in; out of five 7:00 reservations I'm sure one is likely to show up late or not come.

Due to covid we sat outside which was nice but even with reservations we still waited 20 minutes... The food and drinks were delicious, the presentation was outstanding and the service was on point. Great place for sushimi, nigiri, or cocktails... rolls eh....

Best sushi I've had hands down. The sushi bar seating was a great experience as we got to see the different types of sushi made and got an explanation of what it is we are looking at. Very creative and, most importantly, delicious. I will be back as often as possible. 10/10 for me

Kru is incredible. The food is absolutely amazing but what I love is that you get the full sensory experience. The restaurant design is beautiful and spacious, the serving plates and chopsticks are unique and stunning, the service is A+, the sushi bar is an experience of its own… I could go on. Do yourself a favor and experience this place for yourself, you won’t be disappointed.

Many thanks to warm hospitality from host 'Diana' and creative chef's amazing cooking, we had a pleasant experience yesterday. Loved variety of drinks on the menu and the ones served during dinner. 'Fruit tart' is a must try in Desserts.

One of the best upscale Japanese restaurant I have tasted. I recommend it. The wait is long, so make a reservation to avoid it. The food is tasty. The tuna is very fresh. The sauce is a little too salty for me. Overall, this restaurant is 4.8 stars for me. I would return to it when I go to Sacramento again.

New, fresh and delicious. Great atmosphere, friendly staff a good place to have a nice dinner. Not too many sushi rolls options but they have plenty of other types of options. It is a bit of a pricey place but it is worth it.. My boyfriend and I tried the grilled oysters and they were so flavorful and fresh! I also had the duck dumpling soup, I highly recommend it! The fusion cocktail drinks are different but fresh and good. I also mentioned to our waitress that it was my boyfriend's birthday and at the end of the meal, a dessert with a candle was brought out to him. Overall everything was great and I would definitely go back.

5.0 | amazing / highly recommended and didn’t dissapoint. the flavors in the hand roll [philly] were so incredibly fresh. best I’ve had. the soup was brilliant, everything I had was yum. I think I would come back here and order a feast with full confidence I will enjoy everything.

I was lucky enough to squeeze in on a busy day. The hostesses treat you really kind here, it reminded us of the 2 Michelin star restaurant I ate at. It’s fancy inside and they describe the food in detail before it’s handed to you. The amount of sushi was generous and you can taste the quality. My only reservation is the price…which of course comes with the service. Also parking can be pain. I ended up parking long the street because both parking lots were full.

I wish we have a restaurant like this in San Francisco soon. This is a business casual spot for foodies that I really enjoyed, good sushi check, good specialty cocktails that changes with the seasons, and great fusion dishes and tapas. My favorite dishes were the uni beignets, the mushroom gnocchi, and all the nigiri we had especially the fish from Japan. Service was great and attentive and the food just kept coming. The restaurant is huge and has an atmosphere for everyone, for example if you want a more intimidate vibe you can sit at the chefs counter where you can watch them make the sushi, or if you want a fun casual vibe you can sit at the bar, if you came with a group you can sit at a bigger table in the main dining area. The biggest takeaway from dining here is that the menu and atmosphere is diverse and there’s something for everyone that you’ll enjoy.

I was a regular at Kru when they were in their original location... however I had only been to the new one once just after they moved. Very innovative dishes and as aways the freshest of fish. I returned today and was blown away... We sat at the bar and I have to say the bartenders all 3 were very attentive, there was no jockeying for position or attention. Our bartender had deep knowledge of the various sashimi etc. Innovative, contemporary yet still very classic...

My bf and I were told by a friend that Kru was his favorite and luckily, Kru was open for us to check it out. We didn't have a reservation but we were seated right away. The staff and our waiter were kind and attentive! She recommended the Tesla to us and my bf and I really enjoyed it. The Spicy B was my favorite because of the amount of flavor it had! I do have to say the sushi was a bit too salty for my palette but still liked my meal. I would visit Kru again but more so on a special occasion!

Absolutely one of the best sushi places that I have ever had. So fresh, really unique, upscale and just super tasty. They have an excellent selection of sake, The duck dumplings soup was so nourishing and warm and delightfully tasty. Every single thing I had down to each rice was so well crafted and incredibly worth the experience. Also definitely get the mochi brownie or miso ice cream. Just divine.

AMAZING!! My girlfriend and I went for our one year anniversary and the whole experience was as incredible as the food was. Bill is incredible and had us both leaving on cloud nine. We will definitely be returning and bringing new friends with us!

Came here for my anniversary dinner with my boyfriend and had a grand time. We split a bottle of sake, some asahi, sashimi, and a nigri platter together. The total was somewhere in the low 200s, and well worth it! Our philosophy is go big, or go home. We'll definitely be back!

  • 5/5 Jessica T. 5 years ago on Google
The oysters are my favorite, but everything is amazing. They use only the highest quality fish so everything tastes fresh, and I love the unique dishes they offer. Everything served is a work of art, and the restaurant is elegantly decorated. I absolutely love this place. It's a great option if you're looking for an incredible dining experience.

Omakase is the way to go if you want to splurge on a great meal. No decision making on your part except for drinks and even then you can get the pairings they suggest! Everything was perfection and I enjoyed the mix of sushi made right in front of us and the warm plates offered from the kitchen. Loved our chef (sorry I forgot his name). Amazing experience and can't wait to go back!

The Australian wagyu and bone marrow with bread are a must for appetizers. Not always in the menu but delicious when they serve it. So juicy and tender. I do love that they have their own creations of sushi rolls. The seating area was good but I can see some flies in the area which kinda ruin my appetite hope they can fix it anytime soon so their outdoor seating would be great.

We traveled through this area and thought a 4.5 rating would go no wrong. But we were wrong. The food has such a msg after taste. Whatever they put in the food does not go well with us. We love to eat out. But my son said his fried chicken dish is worse than KFC which we stopped having KFC for snacks years ago when its quality went way down. That is how bad to push us to write this review. This place is mostly for looks, not contents. Customer service was good but not 5 star. The best we had was lobster tempura.
