Amazing treasure on the N2. Tremendous variety of goods. From special yummy treats to clothing and shoes, they have it all. The pies are especially nice, a bit pricey at first look but delicious and packed with meaty goodness. Something for everyone, from antiques and cutlery to jams and spreads.

Dassiesfontein is not as it once was. Most of the items for sale are from China, India, and elsewhere in Asia. If you want quality South African-made items at good prices, go to your local hospice stores and second hand stores. I had a ginger beer, but I did not believe that it was homemade.

A family favourite we have been here multiple times over the years and we keep going back. The food is incredibly delicious and made in traditional afrikaans South African fashion. It is filling and hearty and brings back childhood memories of Sunday lunches with family. The kitchen is not shy with the portion sizes either. Bread is baked daily in a coal stove (out of this world scrumptious with farm fresh butter). The coffee is "kan koffie", usually made by boiling coffee grinds in a tin kettle over a fire, coffee like this has it's own unique aroma and flavour. There are a HUGE variety of items available to buy ranging from preserves and food, to wine and port and even cast iron pots and pans. It is a one of a kind farm stall experience. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. Dont miss the giant table and chairs outside. One of the best times to visit is when the Canola fields are blooming. It looks like a blanket of yellow as far as the eye can see. In winter there is an open wood fire in the restaurant keeping things toasty. It is well worth a visit nestled between Botrivier and Caledon on the N2 out of Gordon's Bay. The venue is family friendly but this is not a "kids play area, slurpy restaurant". Time slows down here and you spend time having a 'lekker kuier'. Dont forget that back in the day farm stalls supplied everything from light fittings to drawer handles. You will find some gorgeous gems hidden here to include in your home decor. Every corner holds a new discovery. I hope this little treasure never changes because in our fast paced world we need to escape to places like Dassiesfontein for a break. Well done to the team who run it!!

Whenever we go on holiday to the coast, a stop at Dassiesfontein is a must. It feels like the sixties when you enter this warehouse type of shop. The food is really good and their pies are definitely the best! The shop sells everything, from clothing , antiques, leather products and much more. There is ample parking available. They also have a few friendly donkeys outside as well as a few felines. Well worth a visit.

I’ve given this place 5 stars because it’s a “must visit” when traveling the up or down the coast. I usually skip this place because we always stop at Peregrines but on our way back to Cape Town we decided to pull over and grab a bite to eat. There is a lot more on offer than what you expect. Upon entering the warehouse type barn building you take a tour through the various rooms, each retailing various types of items from high quality leather products, bags and shoes etc, to charismatic fittings and fixtures, to baby clothes, food, wine and more. We ended up spending quite a bit of time here because there was so much to see indoors. Outside they even have a small petting zoo and an odd giant table and chairs for some photo opportunities. Once you have worked your way through all the rooms you can take a seat at the most South African farm style restaurant I’ve ever been in. Loved it. I ordered a filter coffee because you just know it’s going to be good. I did try out an open sandwich with pork fat and jam, it wasn’t what I expected so stick to the other items on the menu! I will definitely be stopping here again. There is plenty of parking, toilets on site. It may be difficult for someone in a wheelchair to navigate the various shop rooms however don’t let that stop you.

Lovely quirky stop off spot on our way to Caledon, hard to miss with the giant table and chair and the overall beautiful vistas. Such cute antique options. A bit of a maze, but it definitely adds to the charm. The donkeys you find there are so friendly and you can grab carrots from the store to feed them too.

Great to get good service for a change, my electronic questions were answered quickly after I posted them which really impressed me. The venue is wheelchair accessible but unfortunately does not have a designated loo for people with disabilities. We decided to go anyway and make the best of it as one of the loos in the female bathrooms was quite spacious. The venue is pet friendly which is great as many people bring their furry fellow pax along. Lots of water available for the animals. If you're a bokkom fan you can find really good quality bokkoms sold here. The food is all freshly prepared, is delicious and well priced. A limited range of cold beer is available but they have a good range of quality South African wines available. The service from all the staff is really good and if you're sitty close to the fire on a cold day you might just not want to leave. Lots of safe parking too.

We love Dassiesfontein on a cold rainy day. The old wheelbarrow fireplace is a warm respite from the cold. Soup and farm bread are a staple that is consistently wholesome. The coffee served in ancient enamelware is good. A little wine tasting with some lovely port never hurts and stocking up on some enamel ware makes for a good visit.

Visiting Dassiesfontein is always a memorable experience. Great for a family weekend breakfast or just a stop for coffee. Breathtaking views outside while inside a cozy farm style dining area awaits - with pottery, artwork, wine and more on offer. Maybe give their classic pies a try as you head for the road. A stop well worth it when in the Caledon area or maybe plan an early morning drive to Dassiesfontein.

Dassiesfontein a must to see. A place with so many things to look at. Takes time going through everything. People say they give delicious breakfasts. I just bought a home made bread that just came out of the oven. Recommend people to stop there and walk through all the places in there.

Just stopped here to check out the farm stall, which is fascinating. Love the giant table and chairs. Farm stall has a quirky, fun range of goods from antiques and vintage items to shoes and gifts. The restaurant looked busy but I just grabbed some homemade crunchies and Dassiesfontein coffee, which was well-priced and smells divine. Also beautiful outside with the rolling hills, seasonal canola and donkeys.

Always a nice place for a break away from the city. Home baked bread is superb and they have a lot of nice goodies to buy. Food at restaurant is delicious and the portions are generous. We enjoyed walking through the little shops with all the interesting stuff. They have a huge selection of tin plates, mugs etc

The diner is delightful & the food is good, but the drawing card here must be the store. If you need to decorate a country cottage or love the coastal village look. This place has it all. I simply loved everything in this place. Really glad we decided to stop. I grabbed me some green fig confyt & freshly baked plaasbrood because who can resist these tastes & aromas? My teen accurately summed it up when saying: "This place has Fiela se Kind vibes". If you haven't read the book - please do and then watch the movie 😊#CulturalCapital

Great spot for a break if you’re on a road trip. The place has a restaurant with breakfast and sandwiches, also pies and homemade bread. And a massive store where you can buy everything you need. They accept card and cash.

A mind blowing selection of some of the quirkiest, most creative decorative goodies as well as an enormous range of home made edibles AND a restaurant! Whatever you do, make sure you have lots of space in your car... You'll need it 😁

What a gem of a place to visit. Inside is an open fireplace where you can sit and have great coffee and a meal. Then take a stroll looking at all the items for sale. What's unique about this stall is all the items to buy such as hand made unique home decor items, fireplaces and accessories etc. Just, go take a look and take some cash.. You might buy something!

Dassiesfontein is one of the most eccentric and quirky of any stops on the South African trail. It's a paradise for those shopping for rustic decorative elements for their shop, house or home. It's also a good restaurant serving excellent local fare, including abalone, fricadelle and others.

Dassiesfontein is a must stop in the overberg, there is so much to see. Variety, from leather shoes, clothing to kitchen utensils. You can get a farm breakfast or light brunch. Cheese and wine. The food is average. But so well worth a visit.

Old world general store filled with all sorts of treasure. Afrikaans inspired restaurant or eating house located inside the store. Food is farm style with extra large portion of food dishes like sweet pumpkin, pot bread with apricot jam or beef, pork and lamb meats. Sugar coffee and chuckney stews drenched in thick sauce. Once in a lifetime experience

The restaurant is small, as it capulates a barn that was converted into a arts and craft shop. The prices on the items are a tad bit pricey, but it's quite understandable that most of it are exclusive. The menu could be looked at and updated, to cover and satisfy a variety of pallets. The salad I've ordered was scrumptiously filling and portionally, sizeable and fair. The owner (s) might consider directing their approach and focus on to attracting a younger generation passer-bys, eg. young children as a method of profit. Most kids convince parents to pull over to just 'check' something out that captured their curiosity. So, maybe putting up a small play park area for little ones, perhaps? Or even hiring a jumping castle on weekends, to attract the young ones. The kids menu can be expanded and dishes can be presented in a more fun-filled way for them. A complimentary toy can be added as well. Bear in mind, that, by word of mouth a business can succeed or fail. Spend some to gain much

Love this little place along the N2. Stop here for a delicious bite to eat and some farm fresh produce. The breakfast is well worth the price. Staff is always welcoming and friendly.

Lovely place full of bits and bobs. Everything from braai meat to home decor to baskets. This place has a bit of everything. It also has a little restaurant. We only had drinks but the food looked decent from what we saw. Was a bit understaffed and got super busy around lunch. Love the donkeys and the large table and chairs. Interesting attraction and the donkeys are super friendly and loving.
