What an amazing little gem, ambient, and peaceful! The food was incredibly good and the kind of place that slows down time.. We'll be back!

We went here as it sounded interesting and we wanted to do something different for a Wedding Anniversary. It was great; the food was good and the interior was quirky and as it was a cool and very wet day the fire was a bonus. We had hoped to sit outside but the weather wasn't kind to us The dirt road up to the restaurant was rather rutted but not a problem for most vehicles. We would/ will go back.

Attempting to visit Moggs was sadly a very unpleasant start to our honeymoon in Hermanus. We had found Moggs during our internet search of the area and happened to drive past on the first day of our getaway. We were very excited to find the restaurant that was on our bucket list for the duration of our stay. This was our experience: 1. The gravel road was horrible. We were also unable to see any recent attempt at maintenance - problematic if you are driving a lower car! 2. The hostess was extremely unaccommodating. The restaurant was full and the hostess made no attempt to assist us otherwise by offering to put us on a waiting list or allowing us (a small group of merely 2 people) to order a take-away meal, following the horrible trip. Based on our experience, we are under the impression that Moggs is too popular - given the hype that it tends to receive - to care about the unique experience of only 2 customers. Disappointing. I will most certainly not attempt to revisit the restaurant and would definitely not recommend it.

Delicious lunch! We stopped in between a couple of stops on the wine route. Unfortunately there was a power outage so a few dishes were off the menu but they still managed to create some amazing dishes. We had the fish cakes and chicken ballantine, both lovely. The service was warm and the view beautiful. Prices are reasonable. The wine on offer is local.

Amazing views and setting. The food was superb, even for us vegetarians who had limited options to choose from. If you are in the Hemel and Aarde Valley, this is the spot for lunch.

Excellent home / farm style food. The menu offers a limited variety although they cater for a range of food preferences. Great local wine options. Attentive and friendly staff! I had lunch from their specials menu as well as a dessert and enjoyed every bite! The lamb and barley soup was especially delicious! A very cosy spot in winter with the lovely fireplace. A nice place to enjoy lunch with children as there is an outdoor play area jungle gym and open lawn area. This place has been on my list of restaurants to try for years and had almost always been booked - so we recommend phoning ahead and making a booking beforehand especially on popular weekends in the whale season or in summer.

Such a cute quirky find. Food and service was excellent. Roasted beetroot salad was πŸ‘Œand the pork belly was soooo yummy. Dog friendly which is a big bonus.

Absolute gem of a restaurant in the Hemel en Aarde valley outside Hermanus. One only has to look at the photos to appreciate the gorgeous setting. To me dining at Moggs feels like going out to your Aunt's house in the countryside of a Sunday afternoon....and boy can she cook! Delicious starters, mains, desserts to be washed down with the finest wines the region produces. Friendly and efficient service from the staff plus a lovely atmosphere beside fellow diners who appreciate excellent food.

Lovely celebration of an 80th birthday! My food was good but some of the steak and pork belly others had was okay. Smallish portion sizes. Delicious deserts!

A hidden gem! Apparantely in business for decades but i never knew about them. Unbelievable food. Fresh herbs from their own garden. A must to visit!

What a pleasant surprise. Perfect for families, kids well catered for while the big kids enjoy good food and wine. This is good old fashioned cooking that satisfies. Real plates of food, no small plates or fancy swirls etc we left with a happy heart, smiles on our faces and full bellies.

Some of the best food we had all holiday. The pot stickers and lamb shank were particularly great. Staff were super friendly, really well priced and wine was exceptional.

Fantastic food and great service! We were glad that we made reservations for Moggs during our first visit to the wineries and beach resorts in Western Cape. My wife (a vegetarian) and I agreed this was one of the best meals we've had in South Africa during a year exploring different parts of the country. Fresh, flavorful ingredients, well prepared, with a beautiful setting and attentive service. Moggs' menu is not extensive but everything we had was delightful and tasted "home cooked." We look forward to visiting again.

We were a bit late. They completely made us feel at ease. The service was great in terms of authenticity and experience with the institution. The wine list is simple but perfect to showcase the surrounding wine lands. The food itself. Beyond incredible. I couldn't hope to replicate it. Absolutely fantastic. Great menu. Super edited and yet showcases such a wide range of styles and techniques. Amazing.

Friends often ask which restaurant is the best I have ever eaten at in South Africa, and my answer is always Moggs. It is a rare pilgrimage I make to reach it. It requires flights, car hire, Hermanus accommodation bookings and a drive on a bad sand road to reach this mecca. The restaurant is small, the decor and setting is countrified, it is a cookhouse. Oh my, but what a cook. Rarely is food infused with such passion. A simple sign hangs in the kitchen, it reads ' Never trust a skinny cook'. Every time I sit down to eat in this cookhouse I think of the movie 'Like hot water for chocolate". This cook is inspired by fresh produce and her passion, every dish is layered with flavour, every mouthful is sublime. Years ago I took my mother and my two sisters with me, each one of them passionate and accomplished cooks themselves. For the first time on our trip they ate in silence, doing justice to the food laid out before them. If you have a culinary bucket list, Moggs should be on it.

Loved my birthday lunch there on Saturday! Surina and Michael who were our waiters made it super special. I even got πŸ’. The ambience was great, with a big fire in the middle it was cozy for winter. Food = big hearty dishes and super yummy. Would highly recommend. Want to try them in summer too!

Superb surroundings, friendly atmosphere and really good food. Perfect for children with plenty space to run outdoors, play gym and activities. Food fresh and scrumptious, ingredients straight from the Cook’s Garden. Lovely big fireplace inside to keep everyone cosy. Highly recommend!

We visited on a busy Sunday without a booking. So we were pleased we were able to get a table. The food was excellent. It was busy so there was a 30 minute wait between courses. But well worth the delay. Give it a try you will not be disappointed. Plus the staff are excellent.

A relaxed and rustic country venue. The staff are courteous and friendly. The food portions generous and well plated. In my opinion though there are just way too many flavours and textures on one plate. The lamb shank itself was unfortunately tasteless and certainly not roasted (perhaps boiled or prepared in a pressure cooker). At nearly R300 for a main course - definitely over priced. The fish and chicken dishes looked great!
