God help you if you find fault in this restaurant. If the rice is bland its because they want to enhance the rest of the meal. If you have to wait 45 minutes after your starter it's your fault for asking for it not to be served straight away. The burnt lemon butter sauce is a secret recipe which cannot be disclosed. Ridiculous excuse after ridiculous excuse. The joint owner, female is an ill mannered nasty piece of work. If you don't like it get out of my restaurant is her mantra. Nice and friendly. Go to this restaurant at your peril!

Where to start, an absolute GEM of a place in the cultural heritage Centre of Hermanus. Owners Endria and Johan cook up an absolute storm with a small kitchen, small menu and quaint little cozy restaurant. Quality produce, made to order, delicious flavours. I ate Springbok carpaccio for starters which came in round slices, absolutely delicious with Chef Johan putting his own twist on the dish. For main I had the seafood masalla curry, which I cannot recommend enough. Full of fish, calamari, mussels and packed with masala & curry flavour with a hint of coconut at the end. I tasted the ribeye, 400g, beautifully cooked and basted and soft as butter. The seafood platter for one is more than enough to feed any 1 person. Now the ambiance, absolutely brilliant. The chef and owners explain the menu and walk around the restaurant. The waiters are brilliantly trained knows the menu by heart. It's a small restaurant and we interacted with tables around us which was an awesome experience. Of you are in Hermanus, looking for good food, take my word. Café 1904 is competing for the top restaurant in Hermanus.

I dined at the “Café 1904” with my family last night and had a great time. As i was not so hungry i only ordered a small plate of calamari and yet i finished it all, the wine was delicious and the atmosphere was heartwarming, dessert was of equal quality : I had the tiramisu and loved it. We were kindly welcomed and had a chat with the chef at the end who personnaly recommended places and gave us good advice as we were new to this country. We would all go again if we could, i highly recommended this restaurant

Our first visit to 1904. Amazing food. I ordered the oxtail and my husband the lamb curry. Both dishes were excellent! The service was outstanding. There was a friendly and very welcoming atmosphere. A delightful evening thank you.

Taste sensation. Tender yummy oxtail, and exquisite flavourful veg dish. Choc fondant and apple pie perfect finish.Super quirky decor and lovely interaction with dynamic hosts. Highly recommend.

Simply delicious dishes in this restaurant. Walked in on first evening in Hermanus without knowing much of the places around and this meal turned out to be one of very best ones in our SA trip. Super tasty grilled line fish and tuna - paired with perfectly matching sauces and spiced rice and some veggies. The very warm lady owning the restaurant came to greet us, personnel was very friendly and all in all a great restaurant experience!

Delicious! We had kingclip (Thai style) and local kaboujoul. Both cooked perfectly and lovely quiet setting with friendly staff.

Welcome to the most enchanting restaurant in Hermananus with a world-class menu and outstanding service. The menu is carefully designed with high end dining in mind, mixed with international chique cafe classics. Lamb shanks, seafood tagliatelle, lemon and garlic buttered mussels/calamari, halloumi cheese and vegan platters too. These are just a glimpse of what you can expect. The venue and decor are eclectic and the menu is classic chalk board menu and wine list. The maitre 'd welcomes each table with excitement and kindness and the staff are gems, pearls and diamonds. They are familiar with the drink and food menus and work fast and eloquently to provide the best service in a timely manner. Wonderful dining experience, great for romantic celebrations and also super for tour groups too.

What a pleasant discovery! A little bit hidden by bigger restaurants there is CAFè 1904, a mixture of South African traditions and modern interpretations. The fish is very fresh and tasty, the platings is intriguing, the atmosphere is cosy. Service is just great!

The food was delicious! The restaurant is really cosy and the staff and owners are so nice! It really feels like coming home to family you haven't seen in a long time and so does the food taste! It is clearly made with love! If you are in hermanus I definitely recommend you going there!

We have been here twice, about 4 months apart. The service was still great, food was still excellent, and the cozy atmosphere was perfect on a cold night. I would definitely recommend this if you feel like a cozy, hearty, missing-my-moms-food meal. 12/10 will go again!

So much to say about this lovely restaurant. Warm and romantic atmosphere, lovely staff, and the food was exceptional with generous portions. I had the tasty, white bait (rather large) tuna, and the malva for dessert. It was exactly what we wanted following the whale watching and hikes in the area. Would highly recommend.

The food here was absolutely delicious! What a hidden gem! The owners were around and super friendly. The service was great. We were glad we stumbled upon this restaurant when another place turned us down. The decor might be off-putting to some (eccentric/colourful/busy), but don't let it deter you.

I've always reserved 5 stars for an excellent culinary experiece, and have never 5 stars given before, Endrea and Johan the owners however provided that tonight. The ambience, selection of wine was exellent, but the food went way beyond that. For starters my partner had the muscles in a creamy sauce which I tasted, I don't eat muscles, but the sauce tasted incredible! I had the crispy squid heads with a selection of 2 sauces, I only tried the one, the dish was fresh and tasty. For main course I had the prawns with chips, the chips alone were manificent, the sauce even more amazing and that's just the side. The prawns were large, meaty, succulent complimented with an exquisite sauce. My partner had the seafood curry which she described as sublime. Both hosts spent time sharing their experiences with us how they started and built up the restaurant to be a top 10% world wide rated, I can easily vouch for that. I will definitely plan my next holiday around returning to this restaurant. Congratulations to the owners on a prized South African culinary experiece!

Everything was great. We got at Starter the mushells and the calamari and at Main the whole fillet Steak and the fillet medaillons. We can recommend all of these. We decided to eat there for a second time :)

The moment you step in your feel welcome immediately, really friendly staff :) Food is good and tasty as well, would recommend to go there. The mussels were really good, especially the sauce where it was made in.

It is a small cozy place, ideal for 2-4 people for a well cooked meal. Portions are average to small and price is a bit high but the food tastes good and I was satisfied. I will go again as there are a few other meals I would like to try.

Could go as far as saying that this has been the best dining experience throughout our family road trip from Johannesburg. Professional waitresses (thank you Mona Lisa) and hostess and Chef. Great atmosphere, lovely people and awesome food as well as a great wine selection. Definitely coming back.

One of the best meals I had. A lovely restaurant with delicious food. I can highly recommend their fish platter or curried fish - absolutely amazing. The forced candle lit dinner only adds to the atmosphere. You must visit if you're in the area

Owners Chef Johan and Endria were welcoming and friendly! Like old friends! Tasty food, fresh fish and the calamari was just melt in you mouth deliciousness! One of the best restaurants ever visited in South Africa!

If you want heartfelt service, personal and eclectic interior and wonderful flavorsome and freshly prepared food with amazing service by Mona Lisa (yes thats her name) book at this restaurant! Had a fantastic evening out. Intimate and charming husband and wife owned restaurant. Tourists next to us couldnt have enough of the malva pudding! The thai kingklip mains and halloumi starter was amazing!

We went there on a recommendation by friends and weren't disappointed. The food was just amazing, from the starters (the mussels are a must have) to the mains and desserts. Mona Lisa, our waitress, did such a great job in guiding us through the evening - but the whole staff was just super fun to chat with.

What a beautiful must for anyone visiting Hermanus. Our host Andrea was so accommodating, the food was phenomenal with such a variety of flavours ( my taste buds are spoilt) and the general ambiance and eclectic style of this restaurant will be remembered as one of my favourites of all time. The meal we had there was delicious. The fish was very fresh and the staff were so friendly. This is the second time we’ve been there and we have now made it our spot when we go to hermanus.

We had the kabeljou and a seafood curry. The seafood curry was amazing but the fish was slightly underdone. Service was friendly and efficient. Very enjoyable and it would have gotten 5 stars if the fish had been properly cooked and our complaint had been taken more seriously.
