We went to the Ocean Basket in Hermanus on 23 January 2021. Our waiter was Josh. Nice seating is available on the inside and the outside. Ocean Basket still surprises you with freshly baked rolls. We ordered the hake combo and some calamari bowls. The food didn't take long to arrive but the chips was cold. The waiter did reheat the chips. The calamari bowls were delicious. Close to the end of our session it felt like the waiter rushed us a bit because we were asked if we wanted dessert or the bill. We literally just finished our food five minutes ago. All in all a good lunch session for fish lovers, especially when you are in Hermanus.

This was an interresting experience. Lovely people and super friendly service. It was quiet though. There was a howling wind outside....but inside was very cosy. The food was really good. All round this was a very pleasent dinner with great service.

Stood by the entrance for 7 minutes , waiters just making eye contact with us , and walking past , a few tables were open . Eventually I asked a waiter , can we please be seated . He said yes he will get someone , no one came , decided to go stand by and dirty table , just to secure it . Eventually a waiter came to clean it , didn’t greet us , nothing. Asked her can we please sit here she said yes . We sat , again no waiter came to service us , yet again I had to ask someone can we please have a waiter, they again said again they will get someone , eventually someone came . From our waiter , the following mistakes were made. I asked for still water , got sparkling , the waiter only checked up when the she brought the food , only the I could ask the waiter to swap for a still. The waiter said sorry , she will swop it for a still . The waiter never brought any water , had to ask to remove it from bill. Great food and venue , service really needs a talk .

There are a few restaurants in this area, if you are looking for amazing seafood at a good price then this has to be your choice. Excellent selection of fresh seafood, amazing flavors. The service could be a little more accommodating. The sea view is worth being seated at. Highly recommend this little gem

I'm giving these guys 5 stars due to their excellent service and pitching them against the other many OB I've been to I found the food the freshest and very delicious. Their calamari strips done to perfection....no chewy rubbery bits like some I've come across. To add to my delectable seafood platter, we sat outside enjoying the summer breezes and views of Hermanus and surrounds! Thank You OBH...The wife and I will be back soon! *****

I have eaten at many Ocean Basket’s before and I can honestly say that this experience was the best. Firstly the view is amazing but that was not the deciding factor. When we arrived we chose to sit outside as the weather was just perfect. We ordered our food and in LESS than 10 minutes our meals arrived. Definitely the fastest at any restaurant that we have frequented for sure. I ordered Bite of the ocean and my husband ordered baby hake with chips and prawns in garlic sauce. As soon as I saw my spicy rice I could tell that it was going to be delicious. At other branches it is obvious that brown rice is used as it is a thicker, bigger grain but this rice was soft and fluffy which means that they either used white fragrant rice or basmati rice. And it was the best spice rice by far. My prawns were delicious as well, soft and succulent on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside. The prawns and hake were perfect. I enjoyed eating at all the other Ocean Basket’s but this one clearly is a notch above the rest and that is saying a lot! As the other branches are very good. It’s the attention to detail that I’m talking about. For instance, this branch has aprons hanging on the wall for children😳. I have never seen this anywhere else before. Another thing that I thought was very smart and thoughtful, is their toilets. It’s a small, basic and clean toilet but it’s the signage on the doors that I’m talking about. It is made clear from the signage that men and women uses the same toilets, so a woman would not be shocked to see a man coming out of the toilet and vice versa. If you don’t like it then you don’t need to use the toilets but no surprises here. I like the transparency 👏 The restaurant itself is immaculate, very spacious and bright with seating on a veranda and some seating outside on the side of the restaurant. Our waiter was attentive without being too intrusive. Perfect 👌 I do at times find waiters are a bit of a nuisance if they disturb you every five minutes to enquire if everything is okay. As we left the restaurant, the floor manager politely enquired whether everything was to our taste. What a lovely experience this was. 👌⭐️😇

Haven't been to the new location, but the food was amazing We were with 4 and had platter for 1's and 1 calamari & prawns combo. The food was brought to our table quite quickly and it was delicious. I couldn't finish my whole tray, so for those with a tiny appetite should maybe not order the platter for 1 (which includes 3 mussels, 6 prawns, chips or rice, hake, calamari, and heads)

OB now situated in the mall - it's a pity they lost the beautiful sea view. We ordered the platter for two and a fish platter. We enjoyed our dishes. Service was good- but we felt rushed as they wanted to close up just after 21:30.

We love the ocean basket. It's good value for money. Situated on the promenade of the beach front. Spectacular views of the bay and landscape. Here u can never go wrong with a value for money meal. Service was good and food great.

Great fresh food! The worst service ever! No attention from our waiter, we had to call her each time for attention, even when we entered the restaurant asking if we may sit at a table, while she was standing with her back to us chatting with the kitchen personel all the time, Then, when asked for a container for our takeaway, she brough us a broken polistirene box. When we asked why a broken box she just said sorry, but no attempt to bring us a proper box.

We visited over a long weekend for a late lunch. I guess they had been busy as despite the numerous empty tables we were allocated one that had not been cleared or relaid. We were relaxed and were happy to go with the flow. Once our starters arrived I realised there were squashed chips on the floor beneath our table. Service was good, our servers were attentive. There was one glitch when our table salad was forgotten. The food was delicious and fabulous value. That is one thing OB gets right, and this restaurant did a really good job of sending us excellently prepared dishes. The desserts were also very good and I was very happy with the quality of my coffee.

Loved our lunch! Food was beautifully plated and fresh and delicious! Our waiter was very kind and friendly aswell.

we ordered grilled hake and mussels, disgusting - both not fresh. We paid the bill, ate two bread rolls and left. DO NOT EAT HERE, it’s terrible!

Absolutely useless! Waited over an hour for food after calling in an order to simply COLLECT a takeaway and left with nothing. Diabolical service during and after the order. No help and eventually left with nothing. I will never order here again, ever. Absolutely useless!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS, 1 star is generous.

Was extremely disappointed in the service received today. Food was not great as well,tasteless with a little sauce. When we spoke to the manager regarding the poor service received from our waiter, she could not care less,very unprofessional. Definitely our first and last visit to this branch.

Sat down waited for a menu, but just got ignored so we left. None of the waitresses even noticed . Saw us walking out but didn't bother saying anything to us just acting oh so busy!

Second best calamari and very affordable..The best in Hermanus...you don't only get food there...they sell toys and fishing equipment as well...so there's no need to travel around with your tackle...just go get it there

Our waitress was really good. There was a large tour group that arrived just as we entered and she took care of us. Sorry, didn't get her name. The bathrooms were a bit dirty and wet due to the group and I asked someone to assist. They tried to clean up but unfortunately I still had to wipe pee off from the toilet seat myelf which was (as you can imagine) very gross. The food was okay. I've had better. If it wasn't for the waitress though the score would have been lower. Overall good experience.

The seafood is average and pricey. The mussles were rediculously small! Location is great, but I would rather eat seafood somewhere else next time.

They were quite busy but managed to get our food to us timelessly. Really enjoyed the hospitality and views!

We had a lovely meal and although prices have escalated we really enjoyed a well prepared meal. Great food and service

Popped in for a quick fish and chips which was delicious as always. Also had the salmon salad which was tasty and generous. Nice up market ambience

The food is lovely. Only dissatisfaction is the fact that whenever I go there (months apart), they never serve sushi and the excuse is, we will start next week. How can it be months and it's always "nextweek", It's like the third time I was told this

We waited for 15 mins at the table with no waitress attending us. When our food arrived it was too salty. They try to give us another potion of calamari to see the salt level was better but no we also could not eat it. It was too salty. Not happy with the service and the food.
