Lovely outside seating! The food was great and the waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Reasonable prices and there was sanitizer on the table. There was also a kiddies menu available.

Tourist trap! Good location but the food is not good. The pasta with seafood was almost like a soup because they‘ve easily put a whole pack of cream in it. The service is ok but we got the wrong food and the waitress couldn’t take the food back. (Or she would have to pay for it) The seafood basket was under average for a price of 180ZAR. Can definitely not recommend.

After a busy week, we decided to go back to The Wooden Barrel for their Jack Black jug of beer special, lunch and to enjoy the live music. We were advised that that all the beer taps were not working and were encouraged to order the pale ale instead. We watched a poor gentleman begging, I mean praying hands and all... for service! After looking around at the state of this one restaurant, we became extremely irritated that a restaurant would bring down the standards of this wonderful waterfront esplanade. We decided NOT to order the food. If the tables and restaurant outside are so dirty, can you imagine the state if the kitchen!!! It was disappointing to say the least. We then received the bill only to see that the 4 beers ordered were R50 each, when we weren't even advised of the price when ordering. The choices of restaurants on the waterfront are amazing and we only visit the Wooden Barrel because of their amazing specials. Shame on the owners. Givemore... you were doing your best to be a good waiter and have always given us great service... the fault is not yours!

The vegan burger was delicious and the toppings only complimented the taste. At first glance, it looked a bit small, but it ended up being the perfect serving size. The texture of the chips, however, was a bit ‘rubber-y’ and could have been cooked for longer. The atmosphere and view of the ocean and mountain also added to the overall enjoyable experience. Before I begin sharing my review, I noticed that while going through all your responses to reviews, there were numerous excuses from the management and owner. So, I'm quite eager to hear your explanation this time. Today, a few friends joined me at Wooden Barrel. We sat down and after about 15 minutes, we decided to order drinks, which arrived promptly. Following that, we proceeded to order breakfast, and unfortunately, it turned into a complete disaster. We placed our orders and then waited and waited. An hour and 15 minutes passed, and still, no food was served. Suddenly, the food started arriving, but with several issues. Three breakfast orders were missing, two breakfasts had eggs that were barely cooked, and we received raw pork sausages. We promptly sent back the breakfasts with the raw eggs and sausages. However, when the breakfasts were brought back after a 25-minute wait, the eggs were still raw. We sent it back again, and this time, they simply flipped the eggs over (who flips sunny-side-up eggs?). To make matters worse, we were still waiting for two more orders, and nearly two hours had passed. Upon paying, the manager offered a discount for three of the breakfasts. However, that does not address the fundamental issue your restaurant has. This was one of the worst experiences I've had in terms of both service and food quality. To add insult to injury, when bringing up these problems to the manager, their response was that they would personally fix it, and it was only their second day on the job. I apologize for being blunt, but as the manager, one should be capable of performing their job to the best of their ability, which clearly was not the case here. In conclusion, I will never return to this establishment. It provided the worst service, almost on par with the quality of service from Eskom. The waiters exhibited horrible attitudes and offered a multitude of excuses, and the food was barely 10% of what it should be. Save your time and avoid visiting a place like this. I struggle to comprehend how you can still operate and keep your doors open with such low quality and service. This doesn't appear to be an isolated incident based on other reviews I've read. My advice: Stay away from this restaurant!

If you want some good quality food at a reasonable price with a stunning ocean view this is the place to go. I had the calamari wrap and it was delicious. We had an amazing view with a good atmosphere. The menu was full of different types of seafoods and some interesting desserts including Swiss cheese cake. The menu was a bit difficult to read because of its font and it was trying a bit to hard with a pirate theme. The waiter Givemore was excellent and helped us with everything and told us that the food was gonna take a while because they make everything fresh.

Enjoyed our visit to the restaurant. Waiters were vigilant and sanitised our table in front of us before we sat. Friendly helpful staff. Food was great from my latte to my 🍰

We were there for lunch today and sorry to say that the service was extremely poor, food took forever to come out and was really not great, the Risoles were cold and the Seafood Baskets were not great at all. 2 out of the 4 people were ill afterwards.

It was raining during our visit and I brought my dog with, they offered seats inside and outside. So I assume it’s pet friendly. The waiter was kind enough to bring a water bowl for the pets. Eisbein was perfect. They serve generous amounts of side dish foods. Oysters was sub par and wouldn’t recommend as they were quite small. I’d visit again to try other dishes.

Had some lovely breakfast options at this pitstop while out and about at Hermanus Market. There was something for the vegan (with avos), something for the sweet-tooth (with pancakes) and something for the carnivores (with beef/pork sausage). Lovely smoothies & good coffee was our preferred choice of beverage and the stunning views made this a top breakfast spot.

An enjoyable experience. The food was great and the service was fantastic.

Had the Eisbein and Lasagna, both delicious with the Eisbein taking the win. Recieved good service with a smile.

Food not as advertised - carrot and Thai Curried carrot soup was neither carrot(was butternut) and there was nothing Thai about it. Supervisor said that is how they make their soup and images on menu were wrong. Tortillas on chicken wrap were quite undercooked. Waitress came back to ask if we wanted chicken patty in our vegetarian burger. Potjie was nice.

Worst restaurant ever… waited for too long for warm mocktails. Food orders took another hour with awful chips, burger buns broken on the burger. Hair imbedded in the crumbed chicken burger patty, totally disgusting…with no appearance of manager. No apology from waiter except a 10% charged without warning for a party of 7. Totally gross out🤢

I was at the wooden barrel back in February and I still think about the bad food we had here. I was down with one of my good friends who is a chef and honestly taking her there was embarrassing. Our waitress was so nice, but the restaurant was completely empty. Our pasta was definitely not fresh, my Alfredo sauce was like water and the tomato pasta was probably tinned. Our meals were not fresh and completely tasteless. The meal wasn’t cheap either about R130 for our pasta. We asked our waitress twice to call the manager who never came after we waited a good half hour. We left a tip for our waitress and left after waiting long for the manager. After reading some of the reviews, I realised their management is in denial about their situation. I’m not trying to be “vindictive” but I don’t want other travellers to have an experience like this.

Good service but the rest was a bummer! So we ordered the calamari starter which would say was average, then for mains the Jolepeno burger which was dreadful, I don't believe these patties are house made but more bulk ordered from somewhere. Bland with a soya bean taste. We also had the steak and wings, the steak was perfectly done and tasty but the wings were overcooked and dry! With this being one of our main tourist locations I truly hope Wooden barrel ups it's game, would be a shame for tourists to think this is a reflection of our foods!

We had a wonderful time at Wooden Barrel and would recommend it to anyone. Our waiter, Givemore, went out of his way to assist us and I would like to commend him for his friendly service. The manager also checked in regularly to ensure we had everything we needed. We had pasta that was delicious. The view is incredible from the outside. They gave us blankets because it became chilly which was a wonderful personal touch. We will definitely visit them again when we are in Hermanus.

Had lunch today at this lovely restaurant. We sat outside with great views of the ocean. Your seafood basket was really delicious. The fish was so fresh and the garlic sauce you had over the fish absolutely stunning. Service was excellent. Will definitely be back again.

A good place for lunch or dinner with outside seating, we did not check the side area though. Though a touristic spot, it is not bad in taste. Burger was alright, chips were good and the Namibian steak bits were amazing!

Myself and my fiancé were very new to Hermanus and wished to find a great place for dinner. Preferably something with a view of the ocean After parking and walking to the mall, we were met by a friendly smile and welcoming attitude outside The Wooden Barrel. Obviously, he invited us in for dinner, but more so than this, he understood us and what we wanted... Dinner with a view. Unfortunately, The Wooden Barrel may be lacking in the view department when you sit inside, and for this reason, we were helpfully recommended to the surrounding restaurants with higher vantage points to see the ocean However, after checking out the other restaurants the area, it became evidently clear that they were all lacking something extremely important... None of them made us feel as welcome as the Wooden Barrel The decision was a no-brainier and we swiftly returned for the most amazing food and impeccable service we've had in SA to date Keith was incredibly warm and welcoming, knowledgeable of both his menu and the surrounding area and very attentive to our needs I would highly recommend trying the muscle marrinier and the seafood basket, followed by their coffee and death by chocolate cake. Delectably delicious! We will definitely be back again the next time we're in Hermanus Thank you
