😠 Had the most awful experience with the owner/franchisee of Mugg & Bean, Whale Coast Mall, Hermanus. I visited this Mugg & Bean today along with my partner who brought along his laptop to do some work.     Had the most awful experience with the owner/franchisee of Mugg & Bean, Whale Coast Mall, Hermanus. I visited this Mugg & Bean today along with my partner who brought along his laptop to do some work. Some time had passed after finishing a slice of lemon meringue and a bottomless coffee and my partner decided to go and use the bathroom. While I sat there, the owner approached me in the most impolite manner and asked me how long I planned on staying. I then told him we’ll most likely stay a while as my partner is doing some work. He then told me that he cannot allow laptop usage now and needs us to move tables so that he can allow other patrons to use our table. After he walked away, I looked around the restaurant and realised that there were at least four tables that were empty, as well as the booth behind me. Whilst looking around, I also realised I was the only person of colour in the restaurant and thus probably the reason why the old, white owner very rudely asked me to move. After my partner returned to our table, the owner approached us again and asked us to move. My partner stood up and showed the owner all the other tables available and told him we will not move, to which the owner replied “I will not allow you back here again” in Afrikaans. It is important to note that there is no sign stating that laptop usage is not allowed or limited to an amount of time. Also, there is no sign indicating a time limit of table occupancy. The owner conducted himself in the most rude and unprofessional manner from the moment the interaction started until the moment he demanded we leave.

    Very poor experience at M&B. My first time visiting and I got asked to move my table twice. When I arrived a took a table in the middle of the restaurant waiting my turn to take one of the tables against the wall for the socket (working on my laptop). Two people at the back of the wall made two tables one after the people next to them left (which made a 2 seater a 4 seater). I then proceeded to a booth (4/6 seater - after the party of 3 oocupying the booth left) and got asked to move tables after 30min and sit at a table/booth behind me with another older single white gentleman. I informed them that I am not comfortable and if they have asked the gentleman if it was okay, to which they proceeded to say ''I'm sure he wouldn't mind'' after 30 more min I got approached by the manager (to which at this point my laptop was packed away and I enjoyed my coffee) got asked again to move my seat for a bigger party to be seated in the booth as I was a single person and would be offered a free coffee, (to which I presume the white single gentleman behind me was not asked to move seats yet again). I rushed my coffee and advised I will rather leave after being asked to move twice, which I perceive as borderline racial profiling with only a handful of people of color being seated at the time. This made the experience very poor for me... I waited my turn for a table with a socket to be free, so should any other party who walked into the restaurant after me nor should anyone be asked to join tables with another customer, since this question wouldn't have been asked if I possibly was an older white single gentleman. Not happy with the service.

    The service is somewhat shocking. My wife and I were ignored from the time of entering and sat down waiting for someone to attend to us. We eventually decided to get up and go somewhere else where we found a friendly greeting at the door with menu's handed to us upon arrival.

    Pleasant experience, although as much as I wanted to be seated inside, it appeared very warm there so settled for an external table instead. Service was prompt and enjoyed the bottomless iced tea.

    We were served cold food . Never sent it back but told them at the end of the meal. The waitress called the manager, who failed to appear. She then offered us a cappacino or muffin on the house, which we never took. Dissapointing!!

    I absolutely love this Mugg and Bean. The staff is incredible! When I walk in my coffee order is placed without me even having to ask. The food is always on point and the owner is always there to make sure everything runs smoothly. Outstanding!!

    Fairly empty at 15h30 on Saturday pm (22/7/23), were told to sit anywhere by 1 of the staff (assuming she's a waiter). Another waiter (male) was attending to another table and was having quite a long conversation, which is not the issue here, as he was being attentive to the table he was serving. However, after sitting for about 3-5mins without being attended to while the first waiter was standing behind us chatting to staff behind the counter without so much as a greeting or welcoming us to M&B or coming to take an order. If the male waiter was only one on duty at the time, that is a bit short-sighted as there were at least 4-5 other occupied tables. We got up and left to come to Spur where a vast difference in service was experienced from the time we entered. M&B, please review your service training of staff as you potentially lost customers (permanently) now due mainly to not exhibiting good basic customer service 👎😞

    So I asked for almond milk because I am super lactose intolerant. Received the cappuccino and confirmed that it is almond milk by pointing out the saucer being white! I noticed that it tastes a lot like normal milk, but with faith in Mugg and Bean I continued drinking it. After I drank a few sips I noticed I was starting to become bloated.... really guys I am paying for almond milk and yet I get normal milk. Now I am sick because Mugg and Bean think it is a trend. There are people in this world that are actually allergic to milk and it is not a trend!!!!

    Upon ordering a bacon and egg sandwich with sweet potato chips, I requested the eggs to be medium to hard. The sandwich came and the white was rolling off the bread and wobbling down. The yolk was cold. I sent it back and the egg was cooked again, yet the wobbly raw egg whites wasn't replaced on the sandwich. By this time I have completely lost my appetite. I would definitely advise anyone, to not order this dish.

    Thought we would give them another chance. This is the second time we went to Mug and Bean Hermanus but the food is just really disappointing.... The service is great though, the waiters are friendly, but unfortunately we won't be back.

    Had a delicious healthy salad with roasted chicken peas. Others had the burgers which looked divine and tasted just as good they said. The service was ok. Friendly staff

    22 minutes for a avocado toast order with a half empty restaurant. Wouldn’t recommend if you are in a rush to do your shopping.

    Misleading and poor service. We called and asked what time they close. We were told 5 pm and drove specially to the venue to meet someone. At 3:30 they told us they are closing. Very sad service indeed. Manager made as hoc impulsive decision to close.

    Placed an order via Mr D, order was accepted by the restaurant. Just short of an hour later I get a phone call stating the item is not in stock. Not what I would call good customer service

    Went there at 13:30 for a slice of carrot cake and was told that there was none left... the freshly baked cake on the counter was "for tomorrow". If it was 17:30 one could understand it, but 13:30? Sorry, not going back if that's how I'm treated😠

    Below average. Slow service (below 30% capacity). A very simple breakfast was ordered and requests were completely ignored. I didn't bother asking for my toast, it just never arrived. No offer for condiments

    I love eggs benedict, but i prefer well done eggs - cannot stomach runny eggs. But just like steak, most chefs prefer to send it them out under medium, no matter how the customer wants it. I've always had to send back runny eggs for a few seconds in the microwave, no matter where i eat. But today, at Mugg & Bean, Whale Coast Mall, my eggs benedict arrived exactly how i asked for it. Well done, but still fluffy. Thank you! 🤗

    The food and service are excellent. Owners Japie and Mariaan are amasing hosts. Manager Chris is a darling and weove Shaheeda and Jo Mari two of the best waiters in Hermanus
