We were going to go to the aquarium but the queue was out the door and down the road. So we went to Butterfly World instead... And wow... It was amazing. They don't have butterflies because of covid and import issues. But it was so worth the visit otherwise. We spoke to the one lady there and you could see the passion in her eyes. The interactions were so special and I fell in love. And they have a 2 day old baby lemur... Go visit... You won't regret it.

Good place to bring the family. Lots of interesting facts around too,so you could learn something. Certain Snake 🐍 pens looked quite bleak it did say they were busy with it but would take 5 mins just to put some rocks and bush in as it was just empty apart from the 🐍 as they did look a bit sad. Plenty to see for an afternoon or morning. Definitely worth a stop by. Wouldn't reccomd the restaurant service was pretty poor.

What an amazing experience! The staff here are amazing, you feel so welcome and free. There are so many things to see,we went to the show at 2 pm,James was so funny.he made learning fun not only for the kids but for us parents as well. All the animals are well looked after and healthy. After a lovely morning of exploring and learning, we stopped at the restaurant to get something to eat. The food is outstanding, full of flavor, and presentation is stunning. The little shop has so many interesting and cute things. The kids love them. We will definitely be back.what an honor to be able to visit such an amazing place.

Exotic animal world is a very fun day activity for the whole family. They have loads of animals to see and educate yourself and your loved ones on. There is a cute café on sight that serves food and drinks. There is also a gift shop to get a little souvenir on your way out. They keep rescue animals and you can also adopt some. The animals are well looked after and they have a good spacious environment filled with enrichment to play with. I was lucky to be there during the owls feeding time and snapped amazing photos. I highly encourage you to take your family. They are so appreciative for some customers during this tough time. Your money is being used to buy these animals some food and to keep the enclosures clean. I had an amazing time, thank you so much!

What a lovely experience! Even on a rainy day it was well lit and comfortable. All the animals are well cared for and appreciated in each of their enclosures. Definitely and exceptional spot for young kids and their birthday parties! Lots to see and do

Great experience and fun for all ages. Beautiful creatures. All the creatures and critters are rescues or donations. Visiting helps feed these creatures and maintain there enclosures. You won't regret the experience. There is a resturant and gift shop at the entrance where you buy tickets. Restrooms are clean and well maintained. Staff are friendly and helpful.

I recently visited Exotic Animal World in Stellenbosch and wanted to share my experience. Overall, it was a mixed bag, with some positive aspects and areas where improvement is needed. Exotic Animal World offers a wide variety of exotic animals, which is a definite highlight. 🐒🐠🦎🐇🐸🐢🐢🐹🦜🐦🐓🕷️🐌 Most of these animals have been surrendered. Getting to see them is a wondrous thing indeed. I'm positive that the owners have a love & passion for rescuing and showcasing these animals. However... There are a few areas where Exotic Animal World could improve. Firstly, I found the pricing to be quite high. While I understand that exotic animals require specialised care, it would be beneficial to review the pricing structure to make it more accessible to a wider range of customers. Secondly, the enclosures needs some serious attention! 1. Mice running through the birds food 😮 - surely you can think of some way to keep them out? I understand that having rodents in an establishment like this is a given, but then you must think of ways to keep them away from the food! It's also not hygienic for people? 2. The big Python 🐍 - give it clean water please! All the snakes can do with clean, fresh water. 3. The fish tanks all need cleaning. This includes the axolotl's tanks. 4. Some of the enclosures are too small for the animals you have in them. They all require a good scrub down & enrichment toys or activities for the animals. 5. Your displays are covered in cobwebs - clean them! This includes the shelving behind glass. Thirdly - this is just a suggestion. Have a staff member or volunteer on the floor to answer questions or to highlight some fun/interesting facts about the animals. Why don't you look at offering a volunteer program? This way you have people on the floor to interact with guests as well as helping hands to clean and maintain the enclosures. I've been to the previews butterfly 🦋 world many times and I always enjoyed the outing. This time however, I left with a sad heart. The animals don't look happy at all! 💔 I don't recommend this place as it is now, but I do have faith that changes will be implemented. This could truly be such an amazing outing for families, but improvements are needed!

A wonderful array of animals that you can explore. Kids love the experience and I recommend the love show at 11 which allowed kids to touch and hold some of the animals. We do miss the butterflies which took a knock after Covid but they have done well to remaking the venue. The food at the resturant was decent and service was quick but the front reception were not very welcoming.

This is the most amazing place. We simply loved this place. It is wonderful to see how this institution rehabilitate birds with passion. I have never seen so many african greys in one place. They are absolutely adorable, i wish i could all them home. This was a wonderful experience, and the restaurant had good food.

Wow. I felt like a kid. Around every corner something new. You won't find big animals but the birds, limas and other insects and reptiles are great. Afterwards you can sit down at the restaurant for a light lunch and or breakfast. Great service and staff who truly love the animals. I went just after lockdown and there were no butterflies, as they ship in pupas. So I would suggest calling ahead and checking when the next pupas hatch. I cant wait to go back.

Hands down the best place I've ever been.. There is not a space from floor to roof where you can look and not see something interesting. Food was exquisite.. Lovely vibe great service and on top of that the animals.. Needs 10 stars.. **********

Excellent animal care sanctuary with a large number of different exotic species. The animals are in good condition and seam to be as happy as a caged animal can be, and probably much happier than they were in previous caged conditions from where they were removed.

A variety of different exotic animals, including axolotls, iguanas, marmoset monkeys, snakes and spiders. I believe they do good work (they take care of exotic pets that people mistakenly obtained or could not take care of). I think they need funding and I hope they receive many visitors so they can upgrade and maintain.

A nice small zoo, where you can encounter animals very personally. Many different birds, in particular parrots. Most of them were rescued from the owners who did not want them anymore. Animals are well kept. Definitely worth a visit, in particular with kids.

What a little gem this turned out to be! We originally just wanted to kill some time, but we were so glad we stopped. Amazing park, doing so much for rescued and surrendered animals. You can walk between the lemurs and parrots, view and amazing array of animals including tortoises, piranhas, Melktert the snake, geckos, lizards, a croc, hundreds of birds, spiders, fish and many more. We truly enjoyed the experience. Parking is safe, there is a restaurant for a coffee and meal as well. All gift shop purchases go toward the care of the animals.

Was a bit better when I was younger. Went there a few days ago, its a great place for kids to see a few small animals and other creapy crawlies. If you go at 11AM there will be a small show on display where you can hold a snake and other animals. Great for kids, sufficient parking, lemurs jumping around you, fish, pond, greenhouse, etc. Nice restaurant also. They can just clean up a bit and have more tour guides.

The fact that there are no butterflies at the moment is misleading as they only notify you about it after driving tens to hundreds of kilometres. The place is not maintained well. Wooden structures need to be rebuilt. It is dirty! Many of the fish tanks and reptile and amphibian tanks are neglected. Many of the birds look unwell. There doesn't seem to be a dedicated maintenance person working at any point during my visit. Children are left to cause havoc with small animals (especially Guinea pigs) This place needs some work. The waterways have all dried up and no effort has been put in to preserving the amphibious outer regions. Many of a so called sanctuaries are too small and over crowded. One can clearly see that this place only cares for money. Not the animals.

A long established family pet shop with the owners all knowledgeable about their products. Seems like they know most of their clients who are repeat customers. They have a huge range of products catering for most animals and what they don't have they will get for you. A worthwhile place to visit for pet lovers seeking helpful advice on caring for your pet.

The weekend outing was a disappointment when we found that butterflies do not feature at this establishment any more. This center now focuses on the rehabilitation of exotic animals. The management shows an incredible dedication in a difficult financial environment. I salute them for a brave effort in spite of financial constraints. An interesting visit for young children.

Lovely place with beautiful animals that are looked after so well. They don't have butterflies at the moment, at no fault of their own (lockdown problems) and a couple of enclosures are being renovated/are closed but they are upfront about this before you buy your tickets. Enjoyed our time there :)

I was disappointed as there were no butterflies in sight - is that why the name changed?? Further the tortoise enclosure was a dismal prison with far too many animals in the small space and insufficient shade and a ground surface that looked like an unkempt building site. Ditto for the poor meerkat population with terrible earth covered in bits of brick stone and chunks of cement. Nowhere to burrow which is their natural wont. They were being fed on scraps of vegetation and that for animals whose diet consists of insects and other small vertebrates. The main enclosure had very little of interest and I feel that this place has deteriorated in the time since I was here last. Despite the many certificates etc on the entrance noticeboard I saw very little knowledge of habitat maintenance. The owl looked just as miserable. The toilet in the enclosure next to the owl needs some maintenance attention as no lights worked. The little restaurant provided fairly good chow and was the highlight of the visit.

I've always loved exploring this place. Pity about the butterflies I used to love watching them climb out of their cocoons and drift about the place. I hope you get butterflies again soon. The animals are so fascinating to see up close and I particularly enjoyed the lemurs. Great place for kids and lots of interesting information and displays.

Fun place for little kids 6. They have a number of interesting animals including lemurs, monkeys, birds and snakes. We were hoping to spot some meerkat, but there weren't any. A section was being renovated, so hopefully that was why they weren't there, although I am not sure they had any. The parrots are cool 😎 Fortunately it was quiet when we went, but I can imagine the place being a nightmare if one were to happen to be there on a busy day as the corridors and pathways are quite narrow. The restaurant seems reasonably priced, however, we didn't eat or drink anything so I cannot comment on what the food is like. Overall it was fun, and we seen everything in about an hour. I do think older kids may get bored pretty quickly, unless they have an interest in animals.

This little place apparently houses a lot of rescue animals and ex pets. The venue itself is pretty old. The enclosures are all rather small and there were several “under construction” and “new attraction coming soon” enclosures. Quite muddy and messy in the outdoor areas. The lemurs are cute to see running and jumping around. Worth it for small children.

Great Experience and value for money. The Gardens and cages need to be tended to. Lots of employees standing around doing nothing. Everything is filthy ... get a grip take a rag dust and wash displays. Sweep floors trim plants ... you wont have a job if you dont take care of the place you work at.

Aways enjoy coming here and spending time with the various breed of parrots and other animals they have here that have been surrendered to them and now have a beautiful enclosure to live out their life and are well looked after. My only concern is the tortoises that have no succulent plants, flowers or grass to feed on. The salads they are given don't have enough nutrition that they need. Otherwise always a lovely experience and the restuarant food is also good. R88pp , children R49pp entrance fee.

I love animals so my 4 star is because of them. However the venue seems very neglected and I can imagine that it costs tons to upkeep. Not too much to attract large crowds to be that profitable I assume. I would however go back once in a while for a dose of the animals. Lemurs, only 2 marmoset, very many African greys as well as a few Macau. Snakes, iguanas & a few cute hedgehogs. Tons of cute Guinea pigs too.

Although there are no butterflies in the sanctuary currently, it houses a number of animals from across the world that are rehabilitated to adjust to the SA climate. Sad to say that most of these animals were once exotic pets; animals taken away from their natural habitats by ignorant humans.

How odd that you would only sell your Hamsters on purchasing of a cage as well... so if my hamster dies of old age my already good condition hamster cage with all the trimmings I would need to give away? Just doesn't make sense to me that I am forced to buy another cage when I already have one? Please can someone explain why this is a rule? The gentlemen on the phone didn't leave much room for me to ask questions it was just a flat out "NO! we will not sell any hamsters if you do not buy a cage - regardless if you have your own cage".

However there are many other small animals such as exotic lizards, snakes, lemurs and other monkeys, rabbits, meerkats, etc. to be seen. Especially small children enjoy the visits. Restaurant is also clean and serves good meals. Worth a visit.

Always a winner for me and the family. It's sad that the lockdown has affected the butterflies there since the butterflies are imported so we can teach the next generation about the beauty that are in insects, instead of them being pests in our homes

I was disappointed by the fact that there were no butterflies, although I realize it was because of the covid pandemic (it impacted importing larvae and eggs)

Unfortunately no butterflies currently due to Covid (no imports of stock). Otherwise pleasant experience with lots of birds and educational talks on spiders and snakes. Good food

A beautiful effort at caring for those that the human race have abused... Well done!🏆 Keep up the great work. I do urge folks to support them with donations of any kind!!

This was Butterfly World before Covid, but due to lockdowns they haven't been able to import butterflies. It's now an animal sanctuary. It's great for kids to see the animals, but it's pretty standard as far as animal parks go. There is also the obligatory coffee shop and gift shop.

Some interesting animals, quite humid inside. Due to covid they no longer have the butterflies. Kids enjoyed.

Such a lovely atmosphere with well cared for animals. Many of the animals are ones that have been confiscated or dropped off due to the illegal exotic animal trade. The staff are passionate about caring for these animals to the best of their ability, as well as about the education around the illegal exotic animal trade. The restaurant food was very good and excellent value for money. Restaurant staff were friendly and efficient. We've been twice in the last month! Thank you for the work you do with these animals and for giving parents the opportunity for their children to experience and be educated about these wonderful creatures.

We could not have been more disappointed. More many years, Butterfly World was a wonderful place to visit. Now as Exotic Animal World (with no butterflies) it has become totally run down, with many of the walk through areas closed and a reaction of the experience it used to offer. Don't waste your money.

A really interactive and educational morning well spent. I'm so glad the iguanas have their own dedicated space now, they used to hang out in the walkway like proper bouncers! The parrots and the baby tortoises will always remain a firm favourite. Didn't see as many butterflies this time though, suppose a name was needed.

Good experience. Looks like Covid may have hit hard financially , as the enclosures looked a bit run down with one being fixed . The fish tanks did not look well mantained . Its worth a visit if you like nature . with time ,it may improve to what it may have been like pre covid. Hopefully some of the enclosures will improve too. Lots of birds , great for an outing with kids too

Had a wonderful experience with these exotic animals. Very surprised about the variety of creatures that are kept at this establishment. Great for kids and adults alike. Though it would be great to have some butterflies back. ☺️

Animals are well taken care of... area is clean and neat and you have the opportunity of close encounters with some of the animals. Lovely vibes, beautiful gardens and amazing creatures to see in a secure environment.

The saddest part of the visit was learning about the fire that resulted in the loss of some of the beloved creatures, but stories of the efforts to save others really warms the heart. The care expressed by the attendants is really endearing. The loss is only consolable by the efforts made to rebuild the area damaged by the fire. Visiting the exotic farm was a rare pleasant experience as the range is interesting and the explanatory notes provided by the establishment is really informative and entertaining. It is absolutely worth the visit!

Only stopped for a meal. The food was well prepared and the staff was friendly. The total cost for the meal was very reasonable, and the environment calming.

A wonderful place to visit. The animals are well cared for and the cages are clean. It is a wonderful educational experience for young children. Plenty of interesting animal facts are placed around the places. There are interesting insects and spiders. Plenty of fish tanks. Walk in bird aviaries are most enjoyable If you are in the area it is a worthwhile stop.

I visited exotic animal world with my 2 boys , and it's safe to say I enjoyed everything just as much as they did :) so many different animals to see , a sanctuary for them all indeed . we also had lunch at café Lemur , on the grounds , and the meals were good . Definitely recommend for a family outing or just if youre looking to explore and see some beautiful animals .
