You will find the Huguenot Memorial Museum at the edge of town, on a beautiful tract of land, in an elegant, classically styled white building. Given the fact that so much of the history of Franschhoek is tied to the settlement of the Huguenots in the region, this is a must-see to those interested of finding out more about the creation and development of the town. Go in the afternoon, but arrive before 4:15 to be able to buy a ticket.

It was extremely interesting, especially for me as a history teacher. I learnt so much more, and it obviously filled gaps, I found out more than what the textbook taught me. Franschhoek carries much of our history and the fact that it is so good at preserving it for the future, what interests me more.

The video introduction in several languages is very helpful. The museum is spread over several buildings and the exhibits provide a very good overview of the past. Clean facility, very friendly staff. I particularly liked the art exhibition in the garden of the perfumery factory. Recommendation

Small but informative museum documenting the history and influence of about 300 Huguenots who settled in the Western Cape in the 17th century.

Well laid out and informative small museum that you can visit in 10 minutes. They’ve done an interesting job linking the journey of the Huguenots to other migrations and forced displacements in a way I haven’t seen before.

A wonderful experience as it was the first time that I have visited the museums as well. They are well maintained and are very neat. It is a pity that the fountain in front of the memorial did not have water and the lawn was in a poor state. Visitors should also look out for electric cables on the ground. Will encourage people to visit this site.

If you are a descendant of the Huguenot's this is the part of your family history that you want to know and a place you want to visit. It gives a full time line how things progressed and how Huguenot's ended up in SA. It details the struggles they had to endure. If you cannot visit the museum visit the website get to know the history.

A very thoroughly detailed and well put together museum given it’s size, lots of interesting information for those interested in the history of the region and/or Huguenot migration.

The main museum is very well curated and has an excellent balance in the telling of the story of the Hugenot refugees at the Cape, including the lives of enslaved persons here, and the impact of colonisation on the indigenous Khoi and San populations. The memorial is impressive and, situated at the top of the main road through Franschhoek, foreboding. It was undergoing some minor repairs when we visited. The annex building houses a more mixed collection of artifacts from various waves of settlement in this valley, and captures in more detail the religious schism which led to the protestant persecution in Europe. The displays are a little dated and full, but is, on the whole, cohesive and clean.

Immaculate. Serves its purpose brilliantly. Really brings one in touch with a part of the South African history that isn't mentioned enough, but changed the country for the better in so many permanent ways. Also really made me appreciate my roots more, and made me feel proud of my South Africanness for the first time in a very long while.

We arrived at the museum at 16:20pm and we were met by a staff member who told us we couldn't enter the museum, without tickets that could be purchased from a cross the road. She went on to explain that the museum closed at 17:00pm and that it was pointless buying tickets, because the ticket office in contrast to the museum closed at 4:15pm. We explained we travelled a long way to see the museum and asked if we could at least take a photo in front of the memorial, to which she promptly refused saying that we could not enter the garden without tickets! She was blunt, unfriendly and abrubt. An utterly disappointing experience!

What a fantastic museum, and such helpful and informative staff who are truly passionate about telling the story of the arrival of 300 refugee immigrants and their legacy to South Africa. The museum is in 2 halves. One is old fashioned and traditional, full of objects and artifacts. Things in glass cases and pots pans and carts. The other is ultra modern, bright and airy, minimal displays but a superb timeline with bullet points. Rooms with stories and soundscapes to draw you in. Today I have learnt so much, thank you.

We visit as often as possible and every time there is something new to discover. Rich Hugenot history and their contribution in building SA are illustrated in numerous displays. The Saint Bartholomew's tragedy and the Roman Catholic massacres forced the Hugenot's to leave France. Proud to be a Hugenot descendant that landed here in 1688. Viva Gabriel le Roux!

Really nice museum (especially if you are keen on Protestant/Reformation history) but could be a little more interactive. Removing one star as the staff are completely disinterested in their jobs and just lounge about on their phones.

What a find! A vibrant real-life museum. Clear explanations, logical layout. Three museums plus the monument itself to visit. The fourth museum is a perfume creation station ~ at a price ~ but well worth just a visit too! You need a lot of time to do this venue properly. Beautifully curated and cared for.

Very interesting museum in a nice setting. R100 to walk the grounds is a bit much

Hugenot Monument used to be one of my favorite places to visit with friends and family HOWEVER the prices they now expect would mean R250 for parents and a kid to go. Absolutely out priced themselves. Seeing what much older historical sites around world charge, its really disappointing to see this and means most South Africans won't visit.

A bit of a let down taking into consideration the price i paid and the size also the things to do. I'd say R80 per person was a bit tight. Otherwise a good learning expedition and some nice artifacts. The museum is taken very well care of and is very neat.
