We
went
for
a
meal
to
evaluate
a
possible
weekend
getaway
for
a
birthday.
The
setting
is
beautiful,
the
hotel
elegant.
However
the
food
and
service
in
the
restaurant
was
underwhelming
to
say
the
least.
When
booking
by
phone,
the
experience
was
like
phoning
a
3-star
chain
hotel
in
a
busy
city,
which
was
unfortunately
carried
through
our
entire
experience.
The
staff
have
no
concept
of
service
in
a
5*
place.
For
example,
the
person
taking
us
to
our
table
had
a
walkie-talkie
on
her
belt
that
went
off
several
times
(in
the
quiet,
elegant
dining
room).
On
pointing
it
out
we
were
told
it
was
for
security
purposes!
If
she
is
responsible
for
security,
what
is
she
doing
taking
guests
to
their
table
and
disturbing
everyone
else's
experience?
And
what
does
that
say
about
the
security
of
the
place?
The
waitress
didn't
know
what
the
fish
of
the
day
was,
or
the
style
of
the
special
(presented
as
'beef
stir-fry'
with
no
elaboration
on
style
of
preparation).
The
menu
is
small
enough
that
this
should
not
be
an
issue.
She
interrupted
our
conversation
several
times,
with
no
concept
of
etiquette.
In
general,
it
just
feels
like
a
distinct
lack
of
training,
and
of
managerial
presence
or
influence.
The
music
was
'elevator'
(if
I'm
kind)
and
at
one
point
was
stuck
on
a
loop.
The
food
was
good
in
presentation,
but
below
average
in
taste
(I
had
the
veg
spring
roll
starter
and
Cape
Malay
curry,
my
partner
the
ribeye
steak).
I
would
expect
a
restaurant
in
a
place
like
this
to
have
a
decent
chef.
If
you're
looking
for
a
special
meal
out,
this
is
not
the
place.
I
did
notice
that
most
of
the
clientele
were
foreign.
Perhaps
they
are
more
forgiving
with
their
currency
that
makes
this
standard
cheap
and
therefore
perhaps
acceptable.
There
were
so
many
other
little
things
that
were
just
wrong
that
would
make
this
post
even
longer...
In
summary:
underwhelming
and
disappointing
π
We
will
NOT
be
booking
a
birthday
weekend
here!
