This is one of the best Museums for toddlers by far!!! Come on.. proper fire engines , proper ambulances etc all of which you can climb aboard and pretend to be a Paramedic or Fire Fighter or Traffic Cop!!! There's so much interactive stuff and my toddlers particularly enjoyed the virtual driving "game".. Older children will appreciate all there is on offer here too.. plus your first visit gets you in for a 12 month ticket.. so you can return as much as you like! Parking very close by , a great Museum!

The kids loved it! It doesn't look too big from the outside but the museum is spread over multiple floors so there's plenty to do & see. We went when there was a 1940s Christmas theme which made it that bit more special. The staff were all very friendly. I will definitely visit again.

Well kept, useful information, jam packed full of equipment and vehicles. An immersive experience for adults and kids to enjoy! Each ticket is also valid for one year, pay once - visit as much as you like for 12 months. Coffee shop on site and fire engine rides around the local area. Amazing!

Great visit at the national emergency services museum my little boy loved it. The ride in a real fire engine (£2 pp) made his day! Would love to return and look at exhibits again to fully appreciate it without little one pulling me around lol.

Very friendly staff and volunteers. Engine ride was entertaining for the little ones. Lots to do and see. Really informative and interesting. Sensory/quiet room for those who want to step away from the busier areas. Backpack for children with sensory toys in also includes ear defenders.

A great place to visit! Steeped in history and takes you back in time. All the vehicles from emergency services throughout the centuries, plus lots of information on how it all came about. There's a gift shop and a very small but nice coffee shop which serves beverages and various sandwiches and snacks. Very friendly staff.

A great day out for the whole family. There are 3 floors of emergency vehicles, information and facts. Obviously the largest - including an RNLI boat! - are on the ground floor with lots of vehicles to climb aboard and explore. As you move up the exhibits get smaller and often more hands-on. There's some excellent games for the children to help them learn and play. There is a cafe or you can use the picnic room to eat your own food.

We enjoyed a lovely couple of hours here. There was no queue on entry and we were given a map to find our way around the site. There was alot of information throughout and interactive parts for the children (and adults 😉). There was a lift for disabled and pram users which we found really useful. 100% authenticity with original vehicles, machines etc, we even got to see an old fire engine from our local area. This would make a great school trip as there is some really important historical facts plus the fun factor. There is a cafe and gift shop and parking just across the road.

Please give this great museum a visit as it more than worth the entry, for the vehicles alone. There have been some vast improvements since I was last there, including a great new interactive section in the Victorian cells. My two children loved it. You need to book in advance, but you get an annual fee pass once you've paid for your entry. My kids loved it. There is also an indoor picnic area so you can take your lunches and not have to worry about food, although we headed to Kelham Island after. Tip: if you go on Sunday the Workhouse lane car park across the road from the museum is £2 all day parking. Great day park for the museum and to walk into Kelham Island after for lunch.

We absolutely loved the museum. It was our first time there and it was such a surprise to get a free Year ticket as a gift. Our experience was fantastic from the start as the staff are very professional and welcoming. We received a map where it said what the museum has on each floor. There are lots of interactive things to do. A lot of interesting information to take in. We really liked the outside but with the fire engines from different years and makes. On the upper floor where different rescue services are described had a lovely song with a little cartoon about safety when in water. My daughter and I are still singing it. The only bit that we didn’t see was about the war. Which is, of course, a very important part of the exhibition and history. It’s because our family had to flee Ukraine when Russian invasion started in February 2022. We both found the sound of air alert distressing. But it’s our personal experience. We highly recommend that you visit the museum. It’s a great place to be on a day like yesterday especially as it was raining a lot. Very good for all the family! Thank you!

Right... so I've known about this place for years and finally went the beginning of this last year. It was a lot bigger than I anticipated and there were multiple displays from present to past. Very informative and the staff were lovely and very good for a family outing, kids enjoyed it and not going to lie, I did too!! Good fun for everyone and I would definitely go again!! @mantiumofficial @tektonik0 @t.a.g.0114

Truly a fab place to visit, with exhibitions of all eras, to do with the emergency service. Interactive exhibits for the younger ones, with narrated parts to complete the stories of our heroes.

Lots to do and see. Lots of interesting interactive activities for children. Very friendly staff. Its an old building with old stairs but a loft has been installed so exhibits are accessible. Exhibits range from early fire brigades, through the war years to more modern emergency services. Including a large selection of vehicles some of which you can enter. Oh just make sure you don't get locked in the prison cells! Lovely little cafe too! Lots of fun for all the family for hours. Also pay once and get in for a whole year, bargin!

Probably the most interesting museum I've ever seen. A lot of old equipment and vehicles to see from 300 years ago until today. Also very friendly staff.

I visited the National Emergency service Museum with a close friend a few weeks ago, we had a visit to see how throughout the decades the Emergency services across the UK developed and dealt with situations back then. It was lovely to see such vintage vehicles from throughout decades stored and cared for. It was a lovely visit and the staff was lovely and welcoming. Such an amazing time and took so many photos. Definitely worth a visit again in the future. Credit to the Staff. Kind regards Aaron.

We took our little one for a visit to the museum as he loves police carrier engines and ambulances! I'm not sure who enjoyed it more, him or his Dad! There was so much to see and the collections were really impressive and informative. Loved the little touches like dress up, interactive learning and the climbing wall! The team were lovely and helpful and you get to come back again free...amazing!

Came here years ago when it was free and it was an "ok" museum. Now there is a small fee but it's actually so much better for it. The presentation of the place and the interaction is so much better and there is a great amount of displays. I believe they are hoping to expand the place to so it should be even better. Parking wise, stick it in the car park over the roundabout. It's close by and not expensive.

I visited with explorer scouts and they all loved it. It’s got enough information without being overwhelming and the staff are friendly. It has a lot of fire engines of different ages. It also has interesting exhibits about the world wars.

What a brilliant place! Sheffield, at the turn of the last century built itself a state of the art combined emergency services centre. Now it's a museum but you can experience the feeling of a cell in an actual cell, examine horse drawn appliances in the coach house next to the stables, trace the development of fire appliances through the ages and more and more and more... With excellent immersive interpretation aimed at all levels it's an utterly absorbing couple of hours. Encompassing everything from blitz boyscout fire wardens to the development of the RNLI, I guarantee you'll run out of capacity for more emergency services knowledge long before the museum runs out of interesting things to tell you. Don't worry though, they'll commute your ticket into an annual pass if you like.

Suitable for all ages! Really interesting and my little boy loved the "nee-nahs"

  • 4/5 Alice S. 2 years ago on Google
There are all types of Ambulances through the years gone by. Lots of interesting written work to give answers to how the vehicles and the people were working hard to save lives. The Fire vehicles were on show from many years. There was also a boat which was used to save people at sea. Children were there and had fun getting inside the vehicles. All in all a good place to visit.

Such a lovely museum. It's nice you can climb in to the vehicles too. Enjoyed the quick chat in the lifeboat too. Freshly made sandwich on hand too. Will be back.

An interesting and fascinating history on Britain's emergency services. Each exhibit was organised well. A more hands on approach to a few exhibits such as sitting inside a 1979 NHS ambulance. Only minor criticism is not permitting visitors to sit inside an old police car and a few late 20th century fire engines. The gift shop was nice and the picnic room had adequate seating. Overall I recommend visiting this museum.

A great place to visit! The journey of emergency services is so interesting. The museum has lots of information about events which have required emergency vehicles and services and descriptions of how they have responded. It's great to see how services and vehicles have changed to respond to the needs of the growing population. Pay once go as many times as you like for a year is such a great offer too. Highly recommended 👌

What a great place. The ticket is valid for a year so even better!! So much for the kids to do, also get to ride in a fire engine just for 2 pounds. Will definitely return!!

Really good place to visit with the kids. I took my son as he loves fire engines and it didn't disappoint. The fire engine ride was amazing and the staff were super friendly. 100% recommend

Based in the old West Bar fire station in central Sheffield, this place is a hidden treasure. Lots to see and do for adults and children, with lots of information if you have the patience to stand and read it all. I only wish they had room to house an air ambulance to complete the collection. Our favourite exhibit was the Lifeboat. 999 workers can get in for a reduced price with a valid photo ID. There's a new WW1 exhibit coming soon. I would recommend this place for anyone. The only downside is that there is no car park attached to the museum but that's because of its location. Adjacent car parks get full and the multistorey is difficult to navigate and very expensive. But please don't let that put you off, I'm just making you aware.

  • 5/5 Peter T. 1 year ago on Google
Excellent, it has something for everyone. It has the great scheme that you pay once and can return for free as much as you want for a year after. Our little one has her favourite bits such as the mountain rescue section and the additional fire engine ride. It has some good exhibits around the war, old fire engines, and several vehicles to get inside and look at. Staff are friendly, it is informative. I would go as far as to say that it's currently the best museum in Sheffield, its our daughter's favourite.
