What a great little shop! Unique one-off art pieces from local artists! They also have other oddities like taxidermy animals and collectibles/jewelry! I’ve already purchased four pieces from them! You must go if you’re downtown Winston Salem!

Every oddities collectors DREAM of a shop! Appears as a little hole in the wall on Trade when in reality they have the best selection of curiosities and vintage clothing, locally made art and taxidermy. It's a good day when I'm able to stop in at Major Tomms!

Im not sure who was working the register yesterday Apr. 8th around I believe 3 or 4 pm, but Ill just say this: The only place I have ever felt belonging and acceptance is in queer spaces/odd/strange spaces. So every city I visit I look for something of that nature and I get there as fast as I can. I meandered around the store for maybe oh, 15 or 30 minutes trying to pick out items, I was with my friend who appears very straight/cis and he let me know when we left he was recieving judgemental looks the entire time. Not cool, were supposed to be inclusive of everyone. I was in my happy place, trying to take my time and enjoy myself as I usually do in oddity shops, but my friend seemed anxious to leave. I said okay, go to the front and ask to see the pins. The person behind the counter got audibly irritated with me for not picking my own pins out of the holder, at that point I felt so uncomfortable that I just stopped picking things out, I was going to look at the stickers but I didnt. I spent the next two hours being sad and wondering what I did wrong to make them irritated with me. Please try harder to be kind to your patrons. Were not stupid, we can pick up on your tone when youre being mean or condescending, and it doesnt feel good to a neurodivergent who was just trying to be in one of their places of comfort, happily.

Major Tomms Oddities is a one of a kind store. I can honestly say I have never seen a store like Major Tomms, but I didn't want to leave out of this place. It's a funhouse that sells things you will not find anywhere else. I can't put it in words I can only suggest you experience Major Tomms. Wow!
