This is definitely one of my favorite Southern restaurants! My must have appetizers are the basket of fried green tomatoes and okra. I also love the the sweet potato cornbread and this time we tried the mac and cheese. It was so delicious! I ordered the shrimp and grits; the grits were some of the best I've ever had. The restaurant has a cool jazzy vibe that adds to a relaxing dining experience. There is always a wait and they do not take reservations so be prepared to wait, but the food and service will make it worth it!

We stopped in Winston Salem for one night, and when I asked the hotel desk employee for recommendations, he fortunately mentioned this place. They offer amazing southern food. However, they sell a food item that we never tried: sweet potato corn bread offered with an amazing restaurant created/flavored butter. It is served in a smaller sized skillet. This is a must order item. It was so good that we ordered one to go before we left. I ordered the fried chicken (which is fried in fatback). This is probably the most genuine southern fried chicken that I have ever eaten in a restaurant. The chicken was salted just enough to be flavorful but not overpowering; the crust was thinner and fried perfectly. (Too often, restaurants put too much breading on their chicken and/or fry it so that it is too hard). Also, the greens were amazing, and had the right texture aka they weren't mushy. My wife had the veggie burger which she liked. She also ordered sweet potato fries which I tried, which were great. They were cut large enough, and were fried enough so that they were hot and crispy, and had a bright orange color. They weren't oily or mushy like at other places.

Ate here for lunch on a weekday. Staff was friendly and helpful. Service was fast, accurate and professional. The food we got, ocra & fried green tomato basket and the DC Burger were very good. Definitely would eat here again to try other menu items.

I have tried to eat here MANY times, but there was always a long wait. It is absolutely worth it. We had the fried okra, green tomato, and mac and cheese appetizers. I had the Mambo chicken sandwich. Huge flavor nothing was greasy.

Definitely one of the top local restaurants in WS. Sweet potato fries are so crispy and BBQ chicken is tender and well-marinated. Staff are friendly.

We had a late lunch today, at about 2 pm. the appetizer of fried green tomatoes and fried okra. #delicious and plenty to take home for later. He ordered cheese burger and fries, It is very hard to find good chicken wings, and my order was #perfectly fried. I always heard rave reviews , I never had the opportunity to visit until today. Every time I tried, it was packed. And now i know why. Our waitress Zoey was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu We will definitely be returning Hopefully, one day, they will move to a larger area with their own parking lot BLESSINGSπŸ’«

The Cajun turkey burger was from a frozen patty. This would be my only complaint. Otherwise everything else was great. Amazing greens. And try anything with the Mamba sauce. It is a perfect mix between a sweet BBQ and Cajun wing style sauce.

This place is a small jewel in the heart of Winston Salem. We got the chicken and waffles and fried chicken, collard greens, and a sweet potato biscuit. Did you get it and waffles had hot honey that was just the right spice consistency. The chicken was so tender. You could cut it with a fork. The entire restaurant is spotless. The customer service is top notch. Our waitress was, Ines. She was very friendly and gave great descriptions of the food. We had sweet potato pie for dessert, and it was by far the best sweet potato pie I have ever eat in my life.

Outstanding service. Delicious food. The fish plate exceeded my expectations. The tartar sauce was outstanding. We ate outside on a late Saturday afternoon. Bloody Mary was solid and beer selection was local. We’ll be back!

Let’s start with the staff was amazing! Our waitress was the sweetest and she always had a smile on her face. Cornbread had a good flavor but was overcooked and dry. The catfish hoagie was good but the DC burger was not. The cheese was not melted and the bun was soggy I’m assuming from the pickled onions on the side. Now the greens were very good I wish I got that as my meal.

Sat at the Bar. I told Sam , the bartender it was my first time and she made great suggestions on helping me to select my meal. Fried fish, Cole slaw was excellent.

The ambiance and atmosphere are upscale casual and intimate. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable. I sat at the bar because I was in a hurry and it was full service. From the moment we sat down, Sam was fully ON! She conducted a wick assessment: is this your first time, she asked and from there, customized our experience by recommending starters, confirming our entree selection and even accepting the offer of bartenders choice for my drink. I am coming back!

Oh my! Absolutely Devine. Went on a Saturday for lunch, so very busy but worth the hour long wait. We went to local shops while waiting. I am 100% southern and never knew okra or greens could taste this good! Mambo chicken was perfect. Love the unique menu. Will be back!!

Such a great experience. The prices reflect the quality and I assure you it is well worth it. Super friendly staff in a cozy and warm atmosphere plus the food is off-the-chain amazing. I ordered a chicken sandwich with sweet potato waffle fries and I'm pretty sure they were the best thing I've ever had.

So glad we got off the bypass and ate at this restaurant. The service was excellent and the food was so delicious. I had the DC burger with SWEET POTATO fries. My wife had fried chicken with OKRA. The portions were very generous.....very generous. Loved the atmosphere and family history of the restaurant. Price was reasonable. Would definitely go again when in the WS area.

I highly, insistently recommend Sweet Potatoe Restaurant. Do yourself a favor and stop by to dine-in or take-out. Last night 8-2-22 we had the opportunity to visit this restaurant for the first time. I truly felt welcomed and appreciated. The staff was professional, understanding, and accommodating. We waited to be seated as the sign read. The host quickly came to seat us in under a minute. James, the maitre d', promptly assisted with all our needs in a pleasant manner. He was summoned to assist us since I preferred a different table than initially offered by the host. He promptly seated us in a location better suited for me with my concerns with COVID-19. Understandably I was asked not to drink from my personal water cup I carried in the restaurant and was quickly provided a carafe of ice water in its stead. We ordered an alcoholic beverage and entree's. My delectable dish was Salmon Florentine while my partner's delicious fare was Spaghetti with a Drawl. The food was prepared in a reasonable amount of time. Impeccable presentation and flavor! The food arrived and appeared so tantalizing I hesitated only to say grace before eating. After that first mouthful I paused to photograph the food to share my experience. Of course, after a few snapshots to capture the beautiful presentation, I savored my meal. I can only attempt to describe the pop of flavors from the Salmon, Spinach, Sweet Potato Bread and vinaigrette. Of course I had to sample my partner's dish which was equally savory as mines was flavorful. We left satiated. I ordered my dessert, Sweet Potatoe Pie, to go. I also ordered Miss Ora's Chicken Wings to go as well. I observed the Chef walking through the restaurant and called her over to express my gratitude for the extraordinary culinary artistry displayed. Chef Stephanie, we appreciate you and I sincerely thank you, James and the Sweet Potatoe Restaurant for my pleasingly memorable experience. I will certainly return whenever I visit Winston-Salem, NC. There is ample seating inside and outside the restaurant in a closed in gated area as well as a table in front of the restaurant. Again, I recommend the Sweet Potatoe Restaurant.

In town for Business and we decided on Soul Food for 1 dinner. This was a diamond of a spot to find in the Art District. Staff, atmosphere, music, food, all at a reasonable price. Best experience in the area for sure.

Another nice spot in downtown WS, the food is delicious and has a lot of soul. Love all the dishes with sweet potatoes, and food tasted amazing. Plus, the sweet tea is off the hook. If you are picky on your tea, then you know what I mean.

Yummy! We came in during peak times, but was able to snag a couple seats at the bar. Sadly I only got one picture, but that is because I was distracted by the delicious food. We got the okra and fried green tomatoes basket (the picture). I ordered the fried fish and my boyfriend got the chicken. We also had to have the cornbread in a pan! So good! Everything was delicious and the service was great as well! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience Sam! Great server/bartender.

The service was great atmosphere was good but the food was nasty!! The fried chicken was undercooked. It had little to no seasoning and we received four dishes. Vivian the owner has a really nasty attitude as well. If you don’t like your food she’ll still charge you and will blame YOU for it smh.

Second time visiting this restaurant and I must say it's hit or miss. This time was a miss. The fried chicken and fish was under cooked, the green tomatoes have no seasoning neither does the salmon. The bread was stale. The only items that were good was the greens and the mimosa. I will not be back my stomach hurts just from tasting the food. Spoke with the manager and she didn't offer any suggestions. She was rude and only took the stale bread off my check. I paid and left all of the disgusting food on the table. No stars. So sad. I wanted some Soulfood obviously this is not the place to go for it.

Really pretty and comfy inside. Our waiter was so nice and on point. Not sure why they weren't busy. It was new years eve. This was our first visit. The food was good except for the cornbread which was a bit dry; however, nothing a bit of butter and honey couldn't fix!!! We will be back!

Shrimp and grits are a must!!! Unfortunately, they do not take reservations over the phone. Our wait time was about 45 minutes but they are located in a great area where we walked around until they texted us when our table was ready. Overall the food is excellent!! 5 Stars!!!

I saw them on facebook and wanted to try, so today was our first time and DEFINITELY won't be the last. It was easy to find, we were seated immediately. I dined there with my kids. The food didn't take too long to come out. We all truly enjoyed EVERYTHING we ordered and I recommend to everyone. The vibe of the restaurant was lovely, and it was beautifully decorated. The staff we came in contact with were super nice and attentive. We even ordered more food to go after we ate! Thank you for the great experience, a lovely way to start off our New Year!

James and Edwin and the other service staff were excellent. We were well taken care of. We liked it so much, we went back for brunch the following day.
