Visited the Museum on holidays, unsure of parking, it's on the main hwy so very busy area. We walked from trams Cavill Ave, 15mins. bus service nearby, prices are up there but ok with a guide for the torture tour Downstairs, allow an hour+ for the whole 2 floors. may not be for little ones. The downstairs exibition shows forms of torture and in custody punishment through the last 500yrs or more, with a commentary by guide, was interesting, sadly no photo's permitted. Upstairs at your leisure with various displays of people of history, icons etc and present day. Interesting as all models are of same size and weight of the person. photo's permitted.

The Wax Museum, located in the heart of Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast. It is home to the largest collection of authentic wax figures in the Southern Hemisphere. From the Famous Faces we know and the others to discover, to the gruesome and gory Torture Chamber, there is something for everyone here at The Wax Museum. Catch the light rail (The G), bus, drive or walk to The Wax Museum. Situated on the corner of the Gold Coast Highway (56 Ferny Ave.) and Elkhorn Ave., Surfers Paradise.

Not worth the money, the wax figures are avarage in craftsmanship as they are in quantity and the ones that are there are packed too close together so if you're planning to take a picture with a celeb you'll have to be prepared to have other wax figures photo bomb. The downstairs tour is very informative if you can make out the information.

It was terrible about 6 looked like the real people waste of money I didn't enjoy it at all there wasn't a lot of statues either was quiet boring old and the place hasn't changed in years When looking for a car park Don't go to the back of the museum it's not an entrance nor a good place to park as the museums windows are very dirty filty and messy It's yuk.. you can see broken dirty wax figures

Cheap tourist attraction. I wouldn't recommend it though. The wax images are pretty poor. The lovely man at the door is very passionate about the place 😊

this museum was one of the worst museums I’ve been too. It was not the worth the high price. There was very little wax figures and on top of that the figures were behind glass case where we weren’t able to take proper pictures with them. The content of the horror tour was rubbish, it showed how the people back in the days struggled instead of how they succeeded. 100% would not recommend going to this museum, it was a complete rip off.

Not the rating I was hoping to give but I have to be honest… after visiting here today for the first time I’m very disappointed to say the least as we were so excited reading everything about it on the website. I will start off on a positive note and say all staff are very lovely so thanks for being amazing. The underground tour was very informative and the guide was lovely only thing was his accent was a bit difficult to understand. What let it down was the actual museum. One it’s very dated there was mould growing on some items, I understand that they need to remain mostly untouched due it being fragile but you would assume it will be cleaned or maintained. Second it’s very short and all are behind glass. Third some of the wax figures look nothing like the actual person. Fourth the price is quite over the top, for what you get to see. So for these four reasons is why I have deducted four stars :(

Didn’t find it worthy at all. Don’t waste your time. You can do better things in GC. You may find it interesting if you interested in knowing ancient punishing /killing techniques.

Way to expensive 💵💸💵💸 for $30 per person I would expect to be able to touch the wax figure and/or see more of them. There like 20 wax figures and they were old white men. Ps the tour guy was way to enthusiastic about torture methods and death. If I could give zero stars, I would. I’m going to The Magnificent Wax Museum. 😾😡👎❌🙅‍♀️🧍

Went to the Wax Museum during day and didn’t have a great time. In my opinion I would recommend this place to people who like a lot of history. The wax figures are behind the glass and you can’t take good photos with them. Most of the figures are unknown to me with only a few being well known. There is a guide with a host who brings you around the basement showing you different torture methods used in the past with wax figures. He explains them very well but definitely boring if you are not interested. Book tickets in advance if going.

Went past, so really wanted to see the wax museum. Popped in quickly and zooted around to see the characters. Was amazed to see Shakespeare, and always had a different image in my head of him.

Great time and LOVE LOVE LOVED the downstairs tour about historic torture devices. Educational and morbid for those who like things that are macarbe in life. The upstairs section, whilst interesting and entertaining, did not have a very accurate representation of the people on display. If you can separate the fact that they didn't look like like who they were supposed to, from the fact that someone actually spent time making a human wax statue with intricate details, then it's a great time. If not, then you're sure to have a laugh at least.

I went here with my 15 year old son after going past this place for approx 15 years without visiting. If you are looking for an amazing wax museum then stay away it’s terrible (1 star) but If you are looking for a hilarious example of absolute abomination of wax figures and laughter at the most non politically “torture tour” then it’s 5 star!!! Laughed a lot !!!! Absolutely terrible but absolutely hilarious….

I visited the Gold Coast Wax Museum with my family and had a blast! The museum has over 110 life sized wax figures of celebrities, politicians, royals and historical figures. The museum also has a chamber of horrors that showcases torture devices from history. It was quite scary and fascinating. The staff were friendly and helpful and the museum was clean and well maintained. I highly recommend this museum to anyone. It is definitely worth the admission fee and time spent

Were there lots of wax figures? Yes. Were there many current/recent celebrities? Not really. Were they recognisable? Most were, Johnny Depp was a stand out. Were the staff friendly & knowledgeable? Absolutely. Would I recommend visiting? I’ve ticked it off the list now, but probably won’t visit again for a while…

not many modern day famous people. don’t expect to be able to touch or take photos with the figures, they are behind glass. way to expensive for us!! $33 per person. the tour of the horrors wasn’t the best. the tour guild was lovely but the figures just didn’t look real.

The downstairs horror area was great and the guide was very informative and funny. Upstairs was cool too. Very cool place as the statues are real wax and not resin like they use in modern museums.

Was an ok tour downstairs seeing how they tortured people back in the old days through the sculptures and props yrs and yrs and yrs ago . Once your upstairs it's famous celebrities, kings ,queens, princesses and more. Some of the figures didn't quite look the actually person but was still nice to see.

This is an interesting place indeed, my wife found a long lost friend within this business, and no, they are not made of wax!! The friendly lady behind the counter of this marvelous Gold Coast institution, happened to be an old school classmate of my wife, who she hasn't seen for a many years?? With reacquaintance's established, myself and the wife were given an in-depth tour of this facility. Downstairs is where your worst nightmares begin, this area is un-available to cameras, digital or otherwise. It consists of mankind's cruelest methods of torture and maiming that could possibly be carried out on another human being? Stretch torture racks, entrails removal whilst still awake, simple starvation practices etc.. Upstairs however is a total pleasure, here is wax figurines of famous, and sometimes not too famous people and characters from history's past. Example, "Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow", Paul Hogan Crocodile Dundee", "Winston Churchill", "The current Royals, Will & Kate", "Buzz Aldrin", just to name a few. This place will appeal to all ages and themes.

Was quite expensive to get in, part of the price is a guided tour through the torture chamber etc area and the gentleman giving the tour (nice bloke) had a very strong English accent and half of the people with us could not clearly understand what he was saying, the wax figures were all quite old and tired with only a handful having a really good likeness, I think more effort could have been put in to make the "settings" the characters were displayed in more fitting. They could have potentially had more written information on display, points of interest / notable accomplishments etc, made it a more educational experience. The staff were nice and friendly, however I would advise against spending your money here unless there are some substantial improvements * Edited to remove my assumption he was Welsh and add some photos of our visit

Hmmm, we were a bit disappointed, wax models look nothing like the characters they are meant to represent, well mostly.....lol Some did if you used your imagination. Highlight to the visit though was the horror section downstairs. They had a tour guide go around and tell the history of torture. It was quite entertaining. No toilets or facilities available. No photos allowed Lucky it wasn't super expensive. But $70 for 2 adults was up there for the quality. We were the only two people there for the tour, not busy at all.

Very friendly staff. I didn't expect that there's a tour guide on the second part, I was amazed and he explained everything well. I travelled solo so they volunteer to take a picture of me with the wax statue which is a big help. Much appreciated, big thanks! Pls visit them🤩

It's good without being great. The Waxwork figures aren't the best renditions of the actual people. If they weren't labelled you would struggle to know who some even were. But overall with the tour downstairs it was a good way to spend an hour

I was looking forward to seeing these waxworks after seeing the fabulous Madame Toussades in Sydney. However I was disappointed that the wax works were all behind glass and some of them were almost unrecognisable as the people they were meant to be. If they were not wearing the particular outfit they could have been anyone. The chamber of horrors tour was very interesting however the waxworks themselves were not great and it was disappointing we could not take photos.

An enjoyable way to spend an hour or so. The tour guide is engaging and informative. The wax models varied and with just enough information. They also like to add and update so if you haven't been for awhile, then it may not be how you remember it.

The guided tour was fantastic, lots of information provided regarding the exhibits. It was quite warm in the downstairs area and found some of the wax figures up stairs did not look like the actual person. Overall, it's was enjoyable, however would be much better if it was cooler in there and some of the wax figures were more accurate and perhaps a recommend direction pattern as to which way to go as it was a little confusing. It was also a little disappointing that you could not take photos downstairs, however you could upstairs.

  • 3/5 kirsty w. 1 year ago on Google
The actual tour part was good, the lady hosting the tour was great. The rest was pretty boring. Whilst a few of the wax figures were really spot on and looked like the person, majority didn't. Although they are meant to be sculpted by the best artists, I find this particularly hard to believe. The man at the front desk was very nice though. Not somewhere I'd go again.

  • 3/5 Gazielle 1 year ago on Google
It was a pretty average experience. Having looked the place up on socials, I was expecting a lot more. Some of the wax figures didn't even really look like the people it was meant to, which was a bit embarrassing on their behalf. Having gone on school holidays, it seemed pretty quiet, which is a bit of a testament to this place. The guided tour was interesting, and I learned some good history which was nice. But nothing really struck me as amazing in this museum. I found it a bit odd also that this place didn't have bathrooms, in which I thought most public places like museums had to. Overall, it was okay, but nothing amazing.

Great local set up. Downstairs is super cool and my 12 year old wasn't scared so most kids wouldn't have an issue with the graphic nature. Would definitely recommend if you have an hour or so to spare. The guys who run it are really friendly and helpful.

  • 5/5 Bux B. 1 year ago on Google
The wax museum sculptures were hit or miss, but it is one of the few places that actually uses wax instead of resin, so I appreciate that for what it is. The torture chamber downstairs was super interesting and dark, teens and older children love it. Great guides too! Note - recommend not to take young kids there, a few from another group were with us and were traumatised…

  • 5/5 Danny H. 11 months ago on Google
What an awesome place to explore. Both us and the kid really enjoyed the exhibits including the downstairs tour. The elderly operators that run the museum are a wealth of knowledge. Highly recommend for people of all ages and back grounds. 👍

The gentleman that did the historical horrors tour was excellent! He did a fantastic job of walking us through the horrors of the mediaeval days whilst maintaining an air of lightness. And the wax figures are so incredibly lifelike. I would not have been surprised if one of them had stepped forward and shook my hand 😆

  • 4/5 Nancy B. 1 year ago on Google
Definitely not Madam Tussaud's however worth a visit. Mark the guide in the horror section, was knowledgeable and detailed in his descriptions of events.

  • 5/5 Kimmy J. 8 months ago on Google
Loved it. My grandma took me here when I was 10 years old and went again as a 28 year old. Some displays were the same which I absolutely loved. Instead of changing everything every 5 mins like other museums I enjoyed the nostalgia. I think the price is quite reasonable given you get a full tour and it wouldn't be easy to teach every new staff member all the displays and history behind each one. Very informative and well done. Would def go again when I'm over next

  • 5/5 Thomas H. 8 months ago on Google

Very entertaining for a place where things don't move. First section is wax figures of famous people, with a bit of info on each. Second section is a guided tour of "wax horrors", showing torture techniques from the past and different cultures. Allow an hour for the two sections. The tour guide explained who some of the historical people were for kids, which was helpful. Something different you can see in any weather.

Really good tour guide with heaps of interesting facts and anecdotes. Whether you're into history or not you will love going through here. Kylie Minogue is really short as it turns out. The wax models are of people at a certain age so in some cases much younger than they are now. Considering you get a guided tour this is definitely one of the more affordable and quality attractions in the area.

The wax museum seemed like a touristy place we needed to check out when in Surfers Paradise. Elizabeth from the front desk was absolutely amazing! She was helpful, friendly and was so sweet to help take photos my partner and i around the entrance. There was 2 parts to this place that approximately takes an hour-ish to go through. 1st part consisted of a small amount of celebrities, politicians/famous people and the 2nd part was demonstrations of historical torture chamber (which you can't take photo's due to copyright and is guided by a tour). 1st part was cool, although some of the celebrities did not look like their counter parts e.g. miley cyrus and whitney houston. But the rest were very close. The 2nd part was very interesting as it was guided by Alfred who was very knowledgable and entertaining. I would definitely recommend this! Perfect activity to fill up an hour of your day. Pro tips: - Keep in mind 90% of the wax figures were kept behind a glass wall so you can't actually touch them - RACQ members get a discounted entry ticket

The person at front counter was very friendly and helpful about other places to visit. The tour of the torture chamber was extraordinary with genuine shrunken heads. Of course exhibits are behind glass as they are easily damaged by curious fingers. They are wax, not rubber, but still photos are possible, but restricted in the torture chamber.
