Excellent place to spend a wonderful afternoon. Gallery was splendid and the view from the roof top bar was amazing too…

HOTA will be one of our top five favourite spots to visit in Queensland! We came here for the Lego Brick-ionary exhibition and we only planned to stay for 30 to 60 minutes but ended up spending the whole afternoon in this tranquil gallery. The staff were super friendly and introduced many places for us to visit, such as the lawn, the stage, the lake etc. all the staff wore pink shirts and they all looked very smart! Really enjoyed visiting this place as it is very spacious and the floor to ceiling glass windows made this building look so unique. Parking is free for the first four hours so it was not a worry at all. We would highly recommend this place for any families who like to explore arts and the nature :)

Seems like an interesting place but we weren't let in the building due to some technical problem in the gallery. Instead we spent our time walking around the sculptures and the greenery surrounding the place. If you have a free day at Surfer's paradise, you can visit the place. It's a 30 minute walk from the Surfer's Paradise Beach.

Hota is an amazing gallery space with fabulous architecture and vibrant colors. The exhibits are great and easily accessible. It's a must-visit for art lovers of all ages, offering diverse collections on every floor. Enjoy a lovely restaurant/cafe with a view and a free admission option with donation possibilities. The fifth level provides a stunning view of the Gold Coast, accompanied by a cafe and bar. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The gallery and exhibition are beautiful. Don't miss the rooftop bar for a fantastic experience. A great spot to visit on the coast!

We went just yo show off this great gallery to our house guest There are 5 floors of art here. We'll be back to explore the other displays. The giftshop is GREAT. Try the rooftop cafe. Wow. Great views! Nice coffee Oh, and free parking for 4 hours, too.

We went to HOTA for a dance show. It's a very chilled venue and I'd be happy to go back. It was nice to sit outside at the cafe while we waited to go in for the show, and the food was typical cafe-style but very tasty and satisfying. (No pics, sorry). The outdoor bar is a bonus for those wanting a drink. There was a host that came to make sure we had our tickets organised and see if we had any queries, which was a nice touch. As we had arrived early, we took the kids for a play at the park behind it first, by the canal, which they enjoyed. We went back after the show too and enjoyed the ambience and the lights of Surfers in the background by night. Inside, we sat at the back (seats were comfortable) and still had a good view of the stage, although the balcony seats above us would have had a better view. Next time we'd still choose to sit downstairs, but closer - around row M to O.

Love this local gem!! From the farmers market each Sunday morning with local musicians busking, to the beautiful swimming area at the lake, the amazing top class outdoor auditorium… huge lawn and events , and HOTA centre itself, stunning architecture and art, the views from the top- wow!!! We love going there as locals to escape the touristy areas on the coast. The gardens are beautiful. Would love to see Carols By Candlelight here!!! The cafe is also lovely with a nice selection for vegetarian as well as non, and the desserts are great…. The theatre is awesome, the Basement is my favourite, some good gigs there! Cannot fault it, except for one thing- payed parking and not enough spots for us locals when there’s big events , although the new pedestrian bridge connecting from Chevron Island to the lake, is handy. Can easily spend the day here chilling.

Beautiful view from level 5, then 3 levels of free exhibits before lower level 'paid exhibits/activities. Coffee shops in the new building as well as near the cinema and box office. Beautiful gardens and walk around the lake. Not quite the same photos you'd get on a sunny day but worth the visit.

Dropped in to watch a movie for the first time. The newest, cleanest and most practical cinema (perfect visibility of the screen). The ticket price was affordable and the people working there helpful and friendly. My new favourite cinema.

The grounds are lovely with a nice outlook to the water. Perfect place for a picnic or walk. We were there on Sunday and they had market stalls, pop up eateries and live music. The art centre was disappointing. We saw the Pop Masters exhibition which was pretty basic. This centre is desperately trying to be another MONA but is missing the mark.

HOTA's gallery space is a true marvel, boasting eye-catching architecture and vibrant colors. It stands out as one of my favorite buildings in the Goldy due to its unique and captivating design. The exhibitions cater to a wide range of artistic tastes, ensuring there's something for everyone. The option for free admission with donation opportunities is a nice touch, making it accessible to all. On the fifth level, you'll be treated to a breathtaking panorama of the Gold Coast, with a cozy cafe and bar to enhance your experience. The gift shop is a cool spot to explore, offering unique finds for art enthusiasts. What sets HOTA apart is its warm and accommodating staff, who make your visit even more enjoyable.

Superb venue: great spaces, fantastic ever-changing range of activities. Must make time to go on the trail behind the outdoor amphitheatre: good view from the top!

If you came here on Sunday, you could also visit the market next to it; I love the vibe there. Try the mini Dutch pancake! Speaking of the HOTA, it’s small but unique. The staff was friendly, one of them said taking picture with that postcard was lovely.

Really love the architecture of this building. It's one of my faves on the Goldy, I think. For a free gallery, I thought this was pretty good. It's quite small. Although, I did not pay to see the third exhibit. The views offered from the top observation points are really nice. There is a cafe/bar on site that looked nice but overpriced. The gift shop was cool.

Live performance put on by Fever with Halloween themed music was brilliant. Bravo to the trio on the flute, harp & cello. Stunning atmosphere lit but 100's of candles.

What an incredible venue. Easy to access and exit. The bathrooms are easy accessed and the venue is designed to have food trucks and bars at either ends. The sneaky sound system and ministry of sound event was absolutely incredible.

HOTA boasts a stunning gallery space adorned with captivating architecture and lively colors. Its exhibitions are both exceptional and conveniently accessible, making it a must-see for art enthusiasts of all generations. With diverse collections gracing each floor, it caters to a wide range of artistic tastes. Additionally, visitors can relish a delightful restaurant or cafe that offers scenic views, and there's even an option for free admission with donation opportunities. The fifth level treats you to a breathtaking panorama of the Gold Coast, complete with a cozy cafe and bar. The staff here is notably warm and accommodating.

Beautiful gallery and surrounding grounds, we went to see the pop art exhibition and my only wish was it was a bit bigger. Gallery staff were exceptional, their knowledge and friendly ness was wonderful and great people to chat to! Even if you’re not a gallery person the cafe on level 5 and the view up the top is worth a visit

Pleasantly surprised by HOTA during my recent visit to the GC! Loved the view from the top floor, the interactive artwork, and walking around the parklands! I visited on a Sunday morning to check out the markets too ☺️

Modern art gallery, was free but you can make donations. Very nice view of Gold Coast, a cafe and a bar at the fifth level. Highly recommended

Hota is a must visit art gallery for art lovers of all ages. Fabulously colourful outside, and awesome diverse collections of art on every floor. Lovely restaurant/cafe with a view. Check what else is on at the site and go early to get an easy car park. If there is an added exhibition showing, it is worth buying tickets in advance - (most of it is free) Enjoy :-)))

Visited this gallery a few times now, actually try to fit it in whenever we visit the Gold Coast. Striking architectural presence, which to my eyes is very GC. Friendly staff, a combination of full time and volunteers who really seem keen to help you enjoy their gallery. The exhibition areas are small but easily accessed and understood. Ofcourse, the roof top bar and terrace is a great place to visit on its own, with views towards the coast highrises and the hinterland. A real addition to the coast, and good place to take QLD visitors.

The HOTA is an amazing gallery space and the style and colour of the building, I thought it was fabulous! The exhibits were great and very easy to view. The only sad part of my visit was the man with the hat greeting people on ground floor was unfriendly and made me feel unwelcome, I had a pram and he immediately came towards me as I entered and studied what was in my babies pram and wasn’t kind to me. It was very off putting for visiting such an amazing new public gallery where everyone should feel welcome.

My daughter had her wedding there recently..The wedding planner and staff did a excellent job of setting up for the ceremony..The beautiful flower arrangements that sat at end of each row were picked up and taken to put on tables in the panorama room. The room was set up beautiful..All staff were amazing and went above and beyond..My only problem was that it was difficult to find way up there as disabled. The views at night are spectacular..

The grounds are well maintained and there is plenty of free parking. Remember to register your vehicle at the pay stations. There are some adequate activities to keep the kids busy. As for the actual exhibits themselves, I found them rather lacklustre in both creativity and visual appeal. Not a bad stopover, but wouldn’t recommend going out of your way for.

Visited HOTA for the Pop Masters exhibition. Staff were super helpful and friendly upon arrival. The gallery was beautiful and the exhibition was great. Also had some food and drinks at the bar on the rooftop and that was also awesome. A great spot to visit if you're on the coast!

Awesome family space. There was a fresh food market and a lot of food vans. Nice to sit by the water and listen to live music.

  • 5/5 Travis L. 1 year ago on Google
What the gallery lacks in breadth of content it more than makes up with its lovely, helpful staff and amazing gallery space. They have invested heavily in photography of which Australia is excellent in and still under appreciated but still have a cute fine art section with their very own Zavros. Highly recommend a visit even if it’s only to meet the most kind and enthusiastic gallery staff in the world.

Lego exhibition was good but didn’t seem very family friendly despite being for kids. When we arrived the greeter was telling us all the things we needed to improve like how to carry our bags ... felt like criminals.

Highly recommended if you love art. The staff are so polite and helpful, shoutout to Peter. It was a very relaxing experience. The observation deck and cafe area are a treat for your eyes on a nice sunny day. Also plenty of park area for kids to play and relax.

One of the best lookout spots on the Gold Coast. HOTA is a highly recommended place for anyone near Surfers Paradise plus the art gallery is beautiful too.

We visited HOTA for Lego brick exhibition. We bought tickets online which was easy but charged me to print the ticket at home which is strange. For lego experience, it was great. We have been to Lego land in Melbourne as well as in Japan but this is different. Here we have three stations where kids can create their own Legos. There are plenty of Lego displays ( Large and small) to inspire kids to become next generation Lego designers. Recommend to visit if you like Lego.
