Joseph Raviv is an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DOCTOR that performs UNNECESSARY SURGERIES on patients for additional insurance money. I visited him in 2014, and all I needed was endoscopic sinus surgery (where the surgeon widens the sinus passages to promote better drainage). However, when I was sedated, he threw in an UNNECESSARY septoplasty that severely narrowed the right side of my nasal airway. For people reading this, I have included x-ray images of my sinuses, BEFORE and AFTER my surgery with him (THESE IMAGES CAN BE SEEN ON HIS YELP PROFILE. I can't post them here because Northshore keeps removing them). As you can see from these images, my nasal airway was equally open on both sides, before surgery, and the septoplasty didn't need to be done. By performing it, he severely narrowed the right side of my nasal airway. Raviv performed this unnecessary surgery just to collect that additional insurance money. There is no other explanation for this. Furthermore, when I later contacted him, and told him that my breathing was worse, and I suspected it was a problem with my septum, he told me that he wouldn't be able to perform the revision septoplasty (make it the way it was before). Therefore, not only is he GREEDY, by performing unnecessary surgeries, but he is INCOMPETENT, for not being able to fix his mistakes. This unnecessary surgery has caused me to suffer greatly over the past 7 years. Since I can't really breathe out of my nose, I don't sleep well at night. I am then exhausted all day, not able to function well, and there is nothing that can be done to fix it. I have lost friends, and jobs over the years, and I am not able to pursue some of the career goals that I wanted to when I was younger. The only reason I can't sue him because my statute of limitations for medical malpractice has expired. In addition, he is also a GIANT COWARD. As soon as I started talking about my negative experience online, instead of apologizing or trying to remedy the situation, he hired a corrupt, unethical lawyer named LUISA TRUJILLO (who now, ironically, works as the head of Northshore Legal affairs). This lawyer sent me a cookie cutter "Cease and Desist", informing me that I would be "sued" if I didn't stop talking about my experience. What a joke. That was 3 years ago, and I haven't stopped anything. When that didn't work, he went "in tears" to the Northbrook Police Department, hoping they would scare me into not sharing my story. The detective told me he was literally "sobbing" in his office when he came in. That was now 7 months ago. Well guess what, I am not going to stop talking. I am going to keep spreading the word until everyone connected to Northshore knows about this. This doctor absolutely devastated my life, and the hospital did nothing about it. Please share this information with other people in the Chicagoland area.

If I could give 0 stars I would. This hospital should be shut down permanently. My cousin I hold very closely to my heart was suffering from a severe sinus infection. He was dehydrated with a fever of 103, bed ridden, and unable to swallow foods without vomiting. A hospital with sensible care for their patients should have immediately taken him in to get an IV and medicine to help him with his pain. But all they did was keep him in the waiting room for 3 hours with no communication or help. He later died in his bed from a simple sinus infection. What kind of hospital would disregard one of their patients whom they should have taken great care of without hesitation? I understand they may have other patients who might have been in worse conditions but this is absolutely unacceptable. Please, do better. Rest In Peace my sweet cousin, DP.❤️

This is going to be long winded but since this was by far the worst experience I have ever had at a healthcare institution, I truly feel I should share. I want to start by saying I am a mom of 3. I have spent many evenings at urgent care and I very rarely think it is necessary to bring my child to the ER. Tonight, after having a fever for the better part of two days, my sons fever spiked to 106.7. Obviously, I immediately gave him fever reducing medication before rushing to the ER. As a practice, I always take the temp on their forehead and if high, I double check under the armpit. Upon arrival, they take us to get checked out in triage. She continues to try to take my 4 year olds temp in his mouth after I repeatedly told her that doesn't work. I know my kid, he won't keep his mouth closed. She didn't event try to take his temp another way, she just gave him more Tylenol and proceeded to have us wait in the waiting room for 3 hours. In this time, the fever broke. Of course, he took and entire dose of ibuprofen followed by a dose of Tylenol 30 minutes later. Once we are called back, we wait an hour before I just decided to leave and make an appointment with his PCP in the morning. As we get home, his fever is spiking again. I'm beyond frustrated by the lack of care given to my 4 year old son, and the fact that I felt they did not believe this was an urgent matter. We never even saw a doctor. I will absolutely never come back to this emergency room, and if my children's PCP wasn't so awesome I would honestly consider never giving this institution my business again.

My sister came to this ER with sever abdominal pain. It was tender to the touch and shortness of breath. They made her wait for 5 hours!!! With no treatment!! When they finally took her in they ran a few test and multiple issues were found including a enlarged heart! They Discharged her that same night without treatment! My sisters visit was transferred to another doctor on staff. He never read her file and just sent her home. My sister pleaded with the doctor to actually look at the test results, that he admitted he never read. This place is absolutely disgusting and will leave you for dead! Please don’t go here if you are in need of medical care!! Especially if you are of African American descent.

I felt offended when I went to the Billing Department and spoke with an Elderly, Customer Service woman, by the name of Delores. She was demanding my tax return from last year and didn't want to take my pay stubs, telling me that it was going to be rejected. I was told by the Emergency room Representative and Supervisor to bring the last two weeks pay stub to calculate payment. It was as though this woman name Delores was looking for something else or to give me a hard time, she even said that it was a "new" requisition, instead of just my pay stubs. But, I felt very offended by her demanding attitude and wanting things done her way. I noticed also, that the two Customer Service ladies at the front desk/reception were like afraid in a way, to even approach her and ask her questions, which I felt sorry for them.

I’m sorry to say, but this was by far the worst hospital experience I’ve ever had. My girlfriend had been bitten by a dog and the nurse told us that she would need to be evaluated within 4 hours because risk of infection or disease. It had already been 3 hours since the bite… We waited in the room for over 5 hours until 5am with little to no communication from staff they kept walking passed the room and every time we asked what’s going on we got “we’ll get back to you”, no rounds were done, the nurse didn’t clean nor bandage the wound, and we were hearing the staff saying things like “I only give compassion to those who deserve it” and “I’m getting old to the point where I don’t care anymore.” We ended pulling an all nighter on a work night for absolutely nothing. Then they had the audacity to call us at 6am after we drove an hour to home and asked us to come back. I was floored. 1) You need more staff on night shift in the ER 2) Teach your employees how to communicate with patients 3) Make sure your nurses know to clean wounds especially if there’s risk of infection 4) Make sure patients don’t hear your employees making side comments 5)I will never be coming to your hospital again

I cannot express enough the disdain I have for this hospital after COUNTLESS disturbing experiences. Even though the ER is subpar, having surgery and God forbid getting admitted is even worse. The staff is incredibly rude, disrespectful, unprofessional, and completely unknowledgeable. They lack even the most basic medical training... reading vitals correctly and understanding the meaning. They do not monitor medication doses (nor do they understand what the medications are for) and might just kill you by overdose. If you're not lucky you might die after a simple outpatient procedure. And just as horrifying, this hospital will gladly send you home while Septic. Those were all separate incidents and just the tip of the iceberg. With the rare exception of very few sympathetic nurses, the overwhelming majority of the hospital staff including security guards, technicians, and nurses only care about getting through the day and not the well-being of the patients. If you want to receive even minimal care while having the comfort of knowing that the hospital staff will at the very least try to keep you alive, stay far away from Highland Park Hospital!!!!

Worst experience ever…. I took my husband to the ER for treatment and it was a terrible experience. He waited in the ER for over 3 hrs to be seen by a doctor. Once he saw the doctor… the doctor tried to give him medication that he was allergic to…. Now if the doctor would have read his chart he would have known that a certain medication is listed as an allergy. The doctor then proceeded to tell my husband “ are you sure you’re allergic… I have never heard of any one being allergic to that medication”. The nurse came into take blood work and but an IV in my husband. The IV kept coming undone…. The nurses solution was to have my husband lay his arm in an uncomfortable position until the IV was done. On top of that every time the IV monitor would go off it took 20-30 min for the nurse to check on it just to stick more tape and tell my husband to keep his arm raised. My husband then asked for a pillow for his head and to keep his arm raised. The nurse told him there was no pillows. Alright no pillows fine at least offer another blanket or a different solution….. nope didn’t happen. I ended up folding my husbands jacket as a temporary pillow. After the 3rd time the IV alarm went off a nurse aid came to check after call light was pushed. The guy reeked of alcohol on his breath badly. My husband at this point wanted out because he was afraid medical errors could be made at this point. It was a terrible experience overall. I would use caution when visiting this ER.

I was transferred from Glenbrook ER to Highland Park Hospital and admitted to ICU with internal bleeding. All the nurses were kind, knowledgeable and understanding, especially Alexa the night ICU nurse and Erin the weekend ICU nurse. All the staff - doctors, nurses, specialists and anesthesiologists were able to make me comfortable in a very scary situation and find the cause of my internal bleeding. With their help I was able to leave the hospital one week later. I would highly recommend this hospital.

We brought in our 12 year old who is going through some pretty terrible and scary things from their past. We were told that they didn’t have a psych program there. So we were shipped off to Lutheran General. Absolutely ridiculous and traumatized our 12 year old more. It was if they weren’t listening or caring about them. Don’t take your child here.

I have had only great experiences at Highland Park Hospital. I have been to the ER, was met with a comfortable wheelchair and treated with much respect. I was seen after not much of a wait and treated very well. I have also been there for surgery and was happy with the treatment, the cleanliness of the hospital, and their willingness to help. When I wanted to get up early, they called my surgeon without hesitation. This hospital is way above many that I have been to. In my experiences, I was treated as a human, as an equal and with respect. I couldn't ask for much more than that!

10/2/2023 - 6:45-11:10 PM EMERGENCY waiting for a doctor; pains in chest. I didn't realize how horrible the medical care in our area (Deerfield Illinos, North Shore University Health System's Highland Park Hospital) Vitals taken at about 8:00 PM, but no sign of a physician. Waiting room full. No rooms available. Obviously it isn't cost effective to provide a larger facility for medical care.

Very poor emergency room workers. My mom is in the emergency room and the nurse doesn't have time to see her or bell her. She is in A Fib with a heart rate very high. Do not go to this hospital. If my mom's heart was not critical I would check her out and move to a different hospital.

I was rushed into the ICU with severe stomach pains last Sunday evening. The service and support from the dedicated staff that I received for 3 days and nights was incredible. I'm very grateful to all of them indeed, especially my two main nurses, Holly and Dave, but everyone else was amazingly caring and responding immediately to any problem I had. Well done, Highland Park ICU!

Had one positive experience before here with our kids, but today and yesterday was a complete farce. The staff is rude and the rules make no sense. They make you talk with a cranky old man then walk five feet forward to talk with a couple more miserable individuals. What's the point of that? They don't allow kids under 18 to go inside the main area so they have to sit in the lobby by themselves. They can roam around the lobby, but can't sit and behave in a room with their mother who will be in the hospital for days. Chalk it up to another poorly run hospital that operates like a business, but with miserable employees. God I wish someone could open a decent hospital.

Dont believe the low ratings on the reviews. We came to the hospital from Charlotte NC for an operation. Everything and everyone was first rate. They run a benevolent tight ship and it is reflected in all aspects . It was clean, so much cleaner than other facilities we've been to. The staff was very competent and helpful. . The doctors were the best, the PA s too. The food was the best hospital food we've ever had.. We felt safe and you want to feel safe.

I never like to leave a negative review but it is well deserved here. I am extremely upset at this hospital and their lack of attention to EVERY patient in the ER waiting to be admitted. I checked in at 9AM, it is currently 1:47PM, still waiting. They say it’s due to severity - how would they know how people really feel? I feel just as bad as anyone else? Several people after me have been placed in a room, I am still waiting. I already drove from my local hospital to this one thinking it would be best, wrong. I suggest going to an urgent care or another hospital for emergencies.

Check out this amazing hospital bathroom! Everything was top notch at Highland Park. I came from Seattle to have surgery by a world famous doctor in Chicago. Can’t say enough good things. Responsive staff and good food.

Showed up on time for a five-minute x-ray study. No communication from the staff of any kind. At 30 minutes I asked the front desk to check with radiology staff and was told they would be coming right back to get me. At 45 minutes I reminded them of my appointment time and they grabbed a CT tech who was in the waiting area, who agreed to do my study at that time. No real apology. Just mumbled something about another tech was supposed to do this. After the study, asked for a CD of the images and was told it would take 10 minutes. I walked out at 20 minutes. Seems like customer service is a mystery. Update: this week I had an MRI of my shoulder, and my experience was exactly the opposite. Taken quickly, treated with kindness and technical expertise. My CD copy was ready by the time I quickly change clothes. Night and day. CT did not seem very busy when I was there, although perhaps they had ED patients or inpatients. The attitude of the technologists made a huge difference

I’m sitting in the waiting room with a 3 year old in need of stitches. My wife and I have been here for 4 hours and I don’t see an end anytime soon. Go literally anywhere else, unless the prospect of sitting in line behind a bunch of cranky boomers for the line ER doctor is appealing.

This review is for their radiology department and I would give them zero stars if possible. I waited 40-50 minutes to be called back for my CT scan, after I had to ask the receptionist if the person performing my procedure even knew I was there. A CT scan is a fairly simple straight forward process. The individual administering my test seemed to have difficulty finding a good access point in my viens. I have always been told by phlebotomists that I have very prominent accessible veins. She tried my right arm first, couldn't seem to place it after digging around. Then my left arm second. Long story short, the contrast dye ended up infiltrating my upper extremity instead of my vein meaning the contrast leaked into my tissues. My left arm started swelling and I experienced numbness and tingling. They told me to go to the ER. I walked myself out of the building, to the ER where I waited for several hours. At this point my whole arm from shoulder to hand was extremely swollen and I still was not seen for a mess up of the medical procedure they performed on me. I ended up leaving without a doctor's consult. I could not move or feel my arm for the rest of the day. Luckily the swelling went down a little overnight but I am still dealing with discomfort today. Do not recommend this location's radiology department for any imaging that requires injection contrast. You don't want to end up like me.

All I gotta say is this..... If you are a cannabis user and are feeling incredibly sick with abdominal pain and vomiting, coupled with the worst anxiety you have ever experienced, demand they test and treat you for Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome. Im on day 39 after 7 days cessation and still almost bedridden. All they did here was given me the exact same CT scan I got at Condell and when it came up clear (I knew it would, but I put trust in the GI) they sent me on my way. Bring a buddy to advocate for you, very important. This condition is very serious and there's no cure. They treat with benzodiazepenes and haloperidol (proceed with caution on the anti-psychotics). I dont want anyone to experience this pain I'm going through. Doctor's aren't even aware of this condition. They gave no answers and no take home meds. Reddit is your friend! Stop going to these big corporate hospitals unless you are literally on your death bed. I probably just saved you 5 - 10k.

Title: Disappointing Experience for a Person with Disabilities I recently had a very disappointing experience at Northshore Hospital in Highland Park, and it has left me compelled to share my thoughts with others, especially those who have disabilities. As someone with multiple sclerosis and its related symptoms, including back problems, relapses, bipolar depression, and mania, my visit to the hospital was anything but pleasant. Firstly, I must mention that I had a distressing incident where a significant amount of jewelry, worth around $4000-$5000, was taken from me. Despite reporting the incident to the police, it was disheartening to learn that the surveillance videos were not clear enough to provide any evidence. This experience has left me feeling frustrated and vulnerable, as a disabled individual in America. Moreover, the overall treatment and attitude of the emergency room staff at Northshore Hospital were far from satisfactory. While I understand that they may be overwhelmed with the demands of their work, I strongly believe that a little decency and compassion go a long way. It was disheartening to hear staff members making jokes and laughing amongst themselves while patients, including myself, were going through distressing situations. This visit to the hospital was particularly challenging for me as I was dealing with multiple sclerosis symptoms, such as nystagmus, optical neuritis, double vision, and bipolar depression. Unfortunately, my condition worsened during this time, and the lack of understanding and empathy from the staff only added to my distress. To sum it up, my experience at Northshore Hospital was akin to a scene from a scary movie. As someone who has been disabled for more than half my life, I can confidently say that this was the worst hospital experience I have ever had. I have decided that I will never visit an emergency room again, no matter the circumstances. I hope my review serves as a cautionary tale for others, especially those with disabilities. It is crucial to find healthcare facilities that prioritize patient care, empathy, and respect. I urge individuals in similar situations to seek out recommendations and explore other options before considering Northshore Hospital. Remember, you are not alone. Reach out to support groups, online communities, or other individuals who have faced similar challenges. Together, we can advocate for better healthcare experiences for people with disabilities.

So sadly I have had to come here 3 times in the past month. The first visit was the worst the staff that night was just not good. But… this week I had to go in twice for two separate accidents and the staff was so amazing. Both visits I had to see specialists multiple drs, many nurses and all were the best. Hurt and in pain they had me smiling and laughing and in great spirits while hooked up to machines, fractured and torn. I have gone to this location on and off for almost all of my life and really only that first time in the past month was not good. But I just want to thank the staff for keeping me in great spirits while laying miserable in bed while they figured out what was going on.

My diagnostic mammogram & ultrasound were scheduled for today. After undressing from the waist up & sitting in the waiting room with the gown untied at the front I was received into the mammography room. The tech asked me if I had my CD. (What year is this?) I had not been notified by my doctor, appt scheduler, front desk (or NorthShore app via a simple questionnaire) that I would need a prior image on CD. I was to leave & realized that I had just gone thru a whole bunch of BS for nothing. Really, I think that I would rather have breast cancer than ever deal with Highland Park Hospital again.

The nicest part was when the person who initially took me into the waiting room came over and wished me a "happy birthday", as that is how I spent my night. I had been having a respiratory attack due to a bad infection. I did receive appropriate care, and I want to make clear that staff, from security and up to attending nurses and physicians, were kind to me, and I appreciate their time.

ER nursing staff is not good—very rude. Seemed annoyed to be doing their jobs. The security guards were kinder and went and fetched things like blankets. It almost seemed like they were servants to the nurses. Intake process took 6 hours even though the ER had many beds available.

My 89 year old friends had a terrible time. The wife has dementia and was in a panic not understanding where she was. She called her husband who came to the hospital at 7:30 a.m to be with her. He was told visiting hours wasn't until 11. He exclaimed that she was confused and wouldn't be able to communicate with the doctors. Nope couldn't get up to her. Talked to a supervisor. Still couldn't go up. He's 89! His wife has dementia and they still wouldn't let him. Finally a security guard who overheard his conversation got him up there. Do better Highland Park.

They saved my mom’s life. I feel the hospital has taken very great care of my mother who has had a lot of good care from the cardiology and ER. And they took very care of us too. Kept us informed and made us comfortable. We are so lucky to have such talented people who care here. Thank you all so much..

I would like to commend the Radiology Team at HP Hospital. From the moment I entered the facility until my test was completed, they made me feel welcome, important and cared for. I especially was impressed the MRI Team who administered the MRI.
