I hadn't been here for 20 years and it has definitely changed, but it is still a great pub.

We went for a drink last night but left disappointed. Lovely bar and friendly staff but couldn’t get the basics right. 2 of the drinks (Guinness & and cider) we asked for on the menu weren’t available. Ordered a gin and a flavoured cider instead only to have a different flavour of cider arrive and for the gin and tonic to arrive flat. Disappointing, won’t be back.

This pub is like the TARDIS it appears tiny from outside being in a cellar but is surprisingly roomy inside. Good snacks and excellent choice of drinks. Both the staff and customers are friendly and you feel very quickly at home.

Have drank here for years - off and on. But new management style is atrocious. Bar staff literally scanning drinkers to ensure they are drinking fast enough to justify taking a space We had a couple of pints (over say 1/2 hour) sitting at a table and were asked three times “do you want another drink” When clearly pints were only 1/2 drunk. Then because we weren’t drinking fast enough to justify table space we were told, abruptly and rudely “ok you’ve got 10 minutes left” you seriously couldn’t make it up. This also happened to the the couple behind us and god for bid the poor single bloke who had the nerve the sit at a double table. Rude. Obnoxious unwelcoming and patronising. Shame because the bar is and always has been an aesthetically pleasing little pub. There are a lot of other better run and more welcoming places at the new town and in Stockbridge. Will not be going back. Note to staff and management - it’s a pub not an exclusive restaurant/club - treat your clients with respect not disdain. Addition. Per the response from the manager to my original review. I’m afraid I think you must have the wrong person. I think you must be referring to the other couple of people near the door that left in rather vocally in obvious “annoyance”. Time will tell if your approach to customers works. Good luck.

Really enjoy this bar just off one of the best mews allys in Britain. Nicely decorated and light particularly for the semi basement bar. Staff are friendly and is excellently situated.

This place has been through many permutations since it was my local ten over years ago, not all of them as good as the original, but it’s current incarnation has recaptured much of what I used to love about the place. The staff are brilliant and the space is amazing --- a dark, sunken, Victorian drinking hole with windows onto street level, in the heart of the New Town --- and at last, it once again has a properly decent range of interesting beers to cover essential every taste. In my books, this now tied with the Cumberland for the best bar between the river and George Street —- but they’re both great, and very different, so it might be worth a few more visits just to make sure that I’m being fair… ;-)

What’s your recipe for your mulled wine? Had a ton of it last winter and loved it. Best pub! Amazing dogs!

Lovely little bar at the end of circus lane. Take the walk from Dean village along the river then head towards circus lane, wander down this lane and stop for a pint at the end, you won't be disappointed.

Randomly table serviced pub. Our table was wet, they couldn’t prepare 2 out of the around 20 drinks on the menu because they were out of coffee liqueur, but at least we had about 4 different members of staff to guide us through our order of two drinks and a packet of crisps and carry them all 4 metres from the bar to our table

Really not sure how to describe “The Vinny” Not really a pub as it is all table service - so booking ahead recommended. The staff are properly hit or miss - either charming and helpful or grumpy and officious. It is an institution and the draft beer when it does not run out is well kept. So pot luck.

The St Vincent is a great place to have a drink, meet friends, meet new people and have a laugh. The staff are second to none and the drinks are top quality. They are a dog friendly pub as well which is great for me and my pup! I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Edinburgh and/or locals.

Dogs, pints and table service pretty much sums it up. Not sure if food was just temporarily unavailable, or has been taken off the menu, but other people mentioned food - there was nothing but bar snacks when we went.

Great pub. Wonderful atmosphere. Always a good night out. Bar staff are brilliant but take themselves a bit too seriously. Possibly a Gen X problem 😁

Great pub! The warm gin drink (served in a teacup) was a delight & the bartender found my husbands phone and chased us inside to return it to him.

This is a lovely and cosy bar, wait staff were very attentive and they have some board games in the back although they’re looking a bit worse for wear.

Lovely spot for a cosy pint or a cocktail. The staff are so friendly and the drinks are made to a high standard!

Could have a better range of drinks. They're also a bit pricey for what you get. There should also be more information about the flavours of each wine and whether they're sweet or dry as neither the menu nor the staff had anything to say about that.

Booked a table and had a really lovely staff evening here. We had table service initially which was unexpected but nice. The hot gin was absolutely lovely, sadly pretty expensive at £7.50 for just the teacup but it was worth it for only one! Great atmosphere and place, I really liked it.

Love this place and they do coffee now as well. Had a nice chat with Angie behind the bar on a rainy Monday afternoon. Highly recommend.

Bookings are a good idea. I love the staff here and they make great cocktails! I usually get one of their three cask ales.

Amazing beers and dog friendly (really). Don't forget to check their special craft beers menu!

Excellent bar, staff are top notch and beers are great. Ignore the 3 star reviewers, this place is far better than that. Arrived in Edinburgh for a work placement, walked into this pub to check it out as it was to be my temporary local and immediately felt at home from the welcoming staff, to the polite customers. Atmosphere is great with a good mix of regulars, well behaved pups and young people that give you the impression its a place for everyone. There is nothing I could suggest for improvement. For me; it's how a pub should be.

Recently changed management but the atmosphere remains the same as it has been for many years, a snug little bar with a good variety of beer, cider and spirits. Friendly staff. If you are hungry they serve a charcuterie or cheese board, provided by local businesses. Always busy, always a relaxing place for a pint.
