The crispy duck special was very good with a large portion size and a light sauce along with a plum and corn slaw. Pecan crusted pan fried tilapia on creamed spinach was also good.. Both the beet and fig salads were good. The service was very nice and outdoor seating was open air with a tent for overhead coverage. Employees wore masks.

Came from the New York City area to visit family and found this place. I went here with my grandma and the food was AMAZING. Our server was William and he was amazing as well as the rest of the staff! Food was fresh, and the quality was incredible!!! The food was diverse and there was an option for everyone! My personal favorite is the crispy chicken and steak with mashed potatoes. Will always come back here. Definitely recommend this place for a quick bite or meal!

Prairie Grass Cafe is a chic, upscale restaurant in Northbrook, Illinois that serves modern American comfort food made from locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere, with a large dining room and a more intimate bar area. The service is attentive and friendly, and the food is consistently delicious. I have dined here multiple times, most recently sitting at the bar and just having wine. The wine list is okay, but I wasn't impressed. There were about 50 available options priced fairly for the area. There are also a variety of beer and some cocktails available.

Prairie Grass Cafe was absolutely amazing in every aspect. The food was high quality. The service was superior. The atmosphere was relaxing. We ordered Corn Fritters for an appetizer. I have never eaten anything like that before. Crisp on the outside. Moist on the inside. It was flavorful and so satisfying. For our entrees we ordered Halibut with slaw and the chicken cutlets. Everything was cooked perfect. There was loads of flavor. For dessert, we ordered mango ice cream and a chocolate cake. The mangos came from India! How cool is that. The spirit and wine list will satisfy any connoisseur. The service was amazing. We got to meet the chef and service manager. They were friendly and awesome to talk to. They gave us great recommendations and explained the philosophy of their restaurant. Everything is made in house except for the bread which is made at a local bakery. They source their ingredients from local farms and waters when possible. Some of their fish are flown in from Alaska or New Zealand.

As a proud regular at PGC for the past 7 years, I have experienced nearly every service and menu item they offer. It’s truly impossible to have anything less than a superb meal at this well run, impeccably clean, consistently delicious and friendly Neighborhood establishment! Whether Vegan, carnivore, Paleo or Ketogetic, there is a menu item for you here! Seasonal, holiday and daily wine and menu specials never disappoint!! Their regular and seasonal desserts are the perfect ending to any meal. If you want to impress someone, bring them to PGC! Don’t forget they do small parties in their private banquet room and while weather permits, socially distanced outdoor dining!! Their excellent service staff is always the right amount of attentive! Chef Sarah and Chef George BRAVO! You have created a TRUE gem in Northbrook!

We recently had take out dinner from Prairie Grass Cafe. Crispy Breaded Halibut with apple slaw, potato wedges, cocktail sauce and tartar sauce. Grilled Ora King Salmon with a Caesar salad, Adams Acres Romaine, tomato, avocado and cucumber. Both dishes were delightful, but my favorite was the Halibut, it was a beautiful, supremely cut and delicious piece of fish. We had our meal for take out, but they do have an outdoor patio for lunch and dinner as well as indoor dining. They also have prepared for winter. They have installed hospital grade air filtration systems inside. A great meal from Prairie Grass Cafe, would not hesitate to dine there again.

First time diner here. The burger (advertised as award-winning) was a taste explosion in my mouth - delicious. Not a fan of potato wedges with skin still on, but I even devoured those. Attentive wait staff also. Well worth a meal(s) here; stop by!

Ate here for the first time with family before heading to the Chicago botanical gardens. Atmosphere and service were good, food was decent. Main issue I had was that the prices were super high. $26 for a small salad with chicken and $12 for a beer is a bit steep for what we got.

Didn't expect this to be as exceptional as it was! Their specials are fabulous and fresh. 'Ancho marinated skirt steak' was incredible, as was the 'Creamy sexy blue cheese wedge salad'. Each item is unique from any other restaurant fare. Ex: This wedge has generous slices (not crumbles) of Amish Blue cheese and dried fig. DELICIOUS! Drinks were very good and quite potent. The service was impeccable.👌 We loved our waiter and his honesty! We would absolutely go back, 100%.

A scrumptious dinner venue hidden away in the corporate building. The service is very fast! The food - the sirloin burger is truly a delight. It’s soft and tender topped up with a blue cheese topping of sorts. The wedge potato’s are a whole other delight! Crispy and substantial. I always order an extra side of these. It’s a perfect blend of crispy outside and edges with a warm, soft middle. The half baked chicken was wonderful: the skin was perfectly crispy and the wild rice gave nice texture. The true star of the show was the pumpkin it was served with - buttery sweet with a crunch from the sunflower seed it was served with. It complimented the savory chicken dish so nicely. The shepherd’s pie was hearty and delicious! Soft creamy mashed potatoes in the top with piping hot meat and veggies! The desserts are always the perfect close to the night. Not too sweet but perfectly savory. I recommend the warm cake. Other recommendations: filet mignon, skirt steak, and crispy Brussels sprouts.

We had a wonderful dinner at Prairie Grass Cafe. The spring rolls were loaded with delicious perfectly cooked shrimp and the accompanying sauce (sweet chili with garlic and cilantro) plays nicely with them. The flounder with roasted carrots and parsnip-potato purée was as delicious as it looks. It was generously portioned and beautifully plated. We also enjoyed the mussels with parsley, shallots, and breadcrumbs pasta. My husband is Sicilian and it reminded us of the pasta con le sarde that we love to have in Sicily. The mussels were plump and delicious. The wine list is very nice. We found wines we really enjoyed and they were reasonably priced. We enjoyed the Attems, Pinot Grigio, Friuli, Italy ‘22 with our mussels and flounder, and the Fritz Haag, Riesling, Germany ‘21 with our pumpkin pie for dessert. Service was perfect.

I was so looking forward to coming to Prairie grass to begin 2024 with their infamous burger. I have the opportunity to travel for work all over the country and I’ve eaten plenty of burgers and you can’t even call this a burger it is divine every Single bite! Not only is the food, but the gentleman who take care of you here are so very warm and endearing the host whose name I do not know, but he has a fabulous accent, and he has always lavished great care on me coming in as a single email traveler. Grass you are among my favorite restaurants in the country. Thank you for a beautiful meal and great service.💙

Dinner was fantastic. I enjoyed a flavorful juicy skirt steak and the mushroom strudel. The steak was perfectly cooked, and I loved the grilled onion they served with it. I asked Pierre, their sommelier, for a wine recommendation to accompany my steak. He recommended a glass of two different Cabernets, one old world and one new. The staff was wonderful.

The food is okay and this spot is a great place for a local place to feel a bit fancy. This is a great restaurant for most occasions.

Prairie Grass is a wonderful restaurant for a special occasion or if you feel like having a slightly fancier night out. The food and service are excellent! I got the date and fig salad as an appetizer, the Lake Superior White fish with mashed potatoes for my main course, and the banana cream pie and chocolate cake for dessert. I definitely plan on coming back soon!

My wife and I came here after a beautiful day at the Chicago Botanical gardens. She ordered the fried halibut. That was a mistake. We paid $36 for fish and chips. What a terrible preparation for a delicate tasting fish like halibut. The deep fried breading destroyed the taste of the halibut which was dry.Fish and chips are better prepared using cod or haddock for half the price of halibut. The halibut could have been lightly floured and pan fried in butter. This is a simple preparation that I have done it many times and enhances the flavor of the halibut. I ordered the crispy boneless half of a chicken which was tasty and well prepared for $25. Except it was a breast and a thigh not half a chicken, and should be described as such. The rice was described as having pine nuts. Guess what...no pine nuts. Over all we received average tasting food at gourmet prices. We most definitely will not be returning.

Food is excellent, sevice and atmosphere enhance the meal time with friends or family more enjoyable. Vegetable and meat are top quality and prepared simple and delicious. Nothing is wasted in this restaurant. For sirloin hamburger the staff will ask if you like it with bun or without. I usually have it without bun and the burger has blue cheese toping and sauteed red onion and tomato on the side. The good quality tasty food and service bring people in over and over again

My wife and I had a great dinner just the other evening at this fine restaurant, one of our favorites. Emma and Joe were hosts, and treated us with kindness and courtesy, and Jose Montez was our server, and he was considerate and careful to honor our special needs with respect to food allergies. He took care that we had a great time. Roberto and Alfonso helped Jose at the table and they made sure we were well taken care of. Finally the food was great and kudos to George and Sarah who prepared the great food we enjoyed. We will be returning on a regular basis!!

While in town at the Renaissance Hotel, we stopped by Prairie Grass Cafe. It is a big WOW! Loved the freshness, use of local food and products, and the quality of the presentation and taste. Servers were also professional and made good recommendations. I wish I lived in town. I would be there frequently. Many of us got the Lake Superior Whitefish since we never get it where we live. Tasted like it was caught and cooked the same day. The produce also was amazingly fresh. Tomatoes like they were just picked and the broccoli was steamed to perfection. It is loud when busy so maybe I would have sat outside but many restaurants are too loud now.

Just had takeout (and shared): the half chicken dinner, acorn squash, and rice with nuts; with the fig/date salad (we added tomato); and Broccoli; with double chocolate cake for desert. It was magnificent! tasted so fresh and delicious on a cold snowy evening. Couldn't have cooked something this good at home, and we are pretty good cooks.

For dinning it Prairie Grass is AMAZING... for take out.. meh, I expected they would have perfected the travel-ability of food having a year+ of pandemic to work it out. The veggie burger was tasteless, but no complaints on the salads, and more sturdy foods like chicken breast & mashed potatoes.

We had a friendly business lunch at PGC. We ordered the Asian chicken salad, housemade veggie burger, and mushroom avocado toast with feta fries. All we're divine. The salad dressing is bright and perfect. Left with apple dessert and these chocolate turtles for later. Hoping to return soon!

If you're looking for a farm-to-table dining experience in Chicago, look no further than Prairie Grass Cafe. The restaurant sources all of its ingredients from local farms, and the menu changes seasonally to make the most of what's fresh and available. The food is absolutely delicious - I had the roasted chicken and it was some of the best I've ever had. The service is also great - our waitress was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The only downside is that Prairie Grass Cafe is a bit pricey. But, in my opinion, it's worth it for the amazing food and atmosphere.

Lovely dining experience. Ingredients are all very fresh. Dishes are all New American, a bit simple but done very well. I particularly liked the beet salad. The wine list was extensive and had several wines available by the glass at a good value. Will definitely stop by again the next time I'm near the Botanical Gardens.

We were so disappointed with Christmas dinner this year. We had an order of short ribs for 2. The meat itself was ok, but the rest of the meal was below mediocre. Mashed potatoes and boiled green beans, and a lettuce salad with black avocado, for $106!!! It was the worst meal we ever had.

Best restaurant in the suburbs! The traditional French training of the chefs really shows in their masterful sauces and brilliant preparations of vegetables. I loved everything we had, especially the shrimp rolls, the flounder, the Brussels sprouts and the yummy mocktails.
