😠 Quite possibly THE MOST UNPROFESSIONAL HOSPITAL I've ever been to. We've waited for close to 3 hours and they have done absolutely nothing but tell us 10-20 more minutes while our friend sits here and bleeds. At one point both doctors with more than 4 nurses were sitting there doing NOTHING. One was...     Quite possibly THE MOST UNPROFESSIONAL HOSPITAL I've ever been to. We've waited for close to 3 hours and they have done absolutely nothing but tell us 10-20 more minutes while our friend sits here and bleeds. At one point both doctors with more than 4 nurses were sitting there doing NOTHING. One was actually texting on her phone. This hospital should be ashamed with their lack of professionalism.

    The staff in the emergency room are the most insensitive, unhelpful, and frankly cruel people I've ever dealt with. Especially the security staff that worked yesterday evening around 5-6pm. While I was scared of my illness and frustrated no one would help us, the security guard took pleasure in our frustration and threw us out in the cold until our GP answered to make an appointment. It was snowing, took nearly an hour, I was in so much pain I couldn't walk or stand, and he smiled and laughed while I cried and begged for help. The Dutch system is not great but these "Healthcare professionals" have no interest in the health of the people they see.

    I went to the emergencies with high fever that wasn't falling for 3 days. The secretary at the reception was extremely rude and ironic to me and decided to do her own diagnosis and tell me to go home, sleep and take some paracetamol and come back if I have fever for at least 7 days. At the same moment there were only two patients at the emergencies and none at the the appointments, which means there were plenty of available doctors to see me.

    Horrible hospital. Our son need to check for near-sightseeing. After first check, they said they will call back in 6m. Waiting for 9m, no call from hospital. Called hospital and stayed in the line waiting for 30min, no one picked up the phone. There is no way to contact the Eye department for children to make appointment. Ending up driving there to see in person. Can't imagine how bad the service could be. So best to avoid them from the beginning.

    Worse reception ever I don’t recommend to go there i think they need to change the people in the reception, people who respect all nationalities. I went to the emergency department due to pregnancy miscarriage and i was so tired and in pain The woman with black hair in the reception was so rude, unhelpful and disrespectful and she was shouting to me and my husband without a reason we didn’t know why? Maybe because she has problem with Arab people, we went there and we paid to see a doctor and she kept shouting she thought we didn’t understand what she said but we do, even she kept talking from our back and laugh. She told us this hospital for Europe citizens only even when we told her we will pay with our own money.

    Incompetent and unprofessional doctors and staff!!! Do not risk your life by going to the emergency there! Everyone knows Dutch Health system is horrible but, this hospital’s emergency part is something else! I had a fever of 39, was sweating, vomitting, couldnt eat or drink for 3 days, fainted a day ago, horrible sore throat and stomach ache which led me to scream and cry daily because of the immense pain, i couldnt walk and had to collapse on the floor in the hospital a couple of times and no one helped me! The people working there especially the security and the reception people are incredibly rude and do not have any human emotions. They told me to get up when my brain did not function and fell on the floor, and was shivering like crazy because of my fever. They told me to go inside of the hospital and call the GP Emergency because it was saturday. I said I am not able to walk there or talk to anyone can you please help me speak on the phone and what they told me was “no, you have to do it on your own and that is the only option for you” (you have to wait at least 20 min on the phone where they ask you hundread questions but did not even understand what they were asking in that state obviously)… Oh, and the emergency doctor was much worse than the staff!!! I can swear on it he had no knowledge whatsoever!! He did not any perform any kind of tests like blood etc. when I told him i have been taking crazy amounts or paracetamol for almost a week now and it does not help me a bit and I am fainting and cannot feel my muscles. Then, without doing any tests he gave me OPIOID (which is a very addictive pain liller Type of street drug basically) and a nausea medicine that has horrible side effects. So, no treatment just drugging me so I dont feel the pain?! And he didnt even ask me what daily medicines I use or i am allergic to any medicines?! He was almost giving me an ibuprofen like shot if I didnt ask him what it is, which I am highly allergic to! At the end of the short session he forgot to check my throat and when i reminded him, he was like “Ah i forgot hahahaha”. He did not even care!!! I had much more medical knowledge than him and I am horrified by this hospital, its doctors and staff. They will literally leave you to die and not help at all! This hospital’s staff and doctors need a serious inspection by the government before more people suffer!

    All OLVG hospitals are complete garbage. The doctors are awful, the customer service is equally bad. I come from the United States of America, which is supposed to be the home of poor healthcare. I never appreciate the healthcare system in the US more after my visit to OLVG locations. In particular, if you are not Dutch, welcome to the raw face of discrimination. These people do not hesitate to put you at the back of the line if you are from de Nederlands. Worst healthcare service I have ever experienced.

    Just took a friend to the ER and had excellent care and service from the minute we entered! Obviously he didn’t have an appointment but he was expedited. He didn’t have insurance but the total out of pocket cost was €350. That included multiple drug infusions, care by thee nurses and two doctors over several hours. Totally professional and caring. Would recommend to any Expat. That’s all for now.

    My personal experience at OLVG Gynaecology department and fertility was heartless. They are the epidemy of what is wrong with the healthcare syste. My life has never been the same because of them. I made the biggest mistake of my life by coming in this hospital. The gynecology department made numerous mistakes on my body. They are also known for being unethical, by covering up their multiple errors. They damaged my fertility and because of them I had to endure chronic pain, which could not be resolved because no hospital wanted to be associated with their botch surgery that they performed on me. I could not have children because they damaged my body. This hospital has no integrity what so ever. They lack professionalism and honesty. My experience with this gynecology department has been devastating on so many levels. The fertility and gynecology department is inexperienced, cold, calculating and very dishonest. Imagine them lying and persuading you to get an unnecessary surgery that was not needed in the first place. Only so they could use me to be a Ginny Pig--- for one of their student-doctors. They said they were going to have a senior doctor perform surgery on me. Only to find out after that they completely lied to me. During the surgery they went behind my back and had a student perform surgery on me without my permission. To make matters worse they did not allow me to speak with the student-doctor who permanently damaged my body. They were not even open to having a mediator, because that is how unethical they are. I had to go to the emergency room several times after my botch surgery. They gave me the cold shoulder and was very standoffish, arrogant, condescending, and disrespectful regarding my body and medical situation. Why because they knew this student had no business performing surgery on me. Especially when I clearly stated, I wanted only a senior doctor to perform surgery on me, and that I did not get along well with that arrogant and immature young student-doctor they had working under them. I notice she was making multiple mistakes and she had a bad attitude. She had no extensive medical experience. She did not inform the medical team that (I said she could never perform surgery on me) and the medical team did not inform the medical staff or medical board that I clearly stated I did not like that young ladies negative and arrogant attitude. I was so traumatise by the incident that I even contacted my embassy.I left this hospital feeling violated physically on so many levels. I got no justice, because their policy is sweeping everything under the rug, and disregarding their patients.

    The biggest mistake of my life was when I underwent a nose job in this hospital. After two unsuccessful procedures, I was transferred twice to umc Utrecht and UMC Amsterdam. And they both can't do anything for me because of the steps that the rhinoplasty doctor in the first hospital followed. After suffering for many years because of my nose, and my suffering 3 years ago when I underwent the first operation, now I have to go to a plastic surgeon and pay for a plastic surgery because of a mistake that I did not commit!! And every doctor sends me to another doctor! not fair!

    Funny story, I came for a small procedure and left without my front teeth and broken nose due to medical malpractice (the procedure was not related to my teeth or face!!). EXPATS: DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL. I will write a detailed comment once the law suit is concluded.

    This emergency hospital is the worst healthcare provider I have ever seen or heard of. Enormously slow, rude, inconsiderate and unresponsive. It is shameful to have such healthcare facility in a world class economy. This is a low point in western civilization healthcare system.

    The people from OLVG are highly incompetent and negligent. Doctors and staff alike are unbelievably incompetent. The dutch health care system as a whole is quite problematic. But the level of the terribly poor experience at this hospital puts it in a whole new low level

    The dermatology is bad, slow and full of doctors under training. I waited for treatment for 3 months, to discover that their “specialist” dermatologist hadnt made an accurate diagnosis before sending me to surgery, which could have caused problems. The surgery had to be cancelled and they forwarded me to another specialist. I lost 2 more months due to her wrong diagnosys, and cancelled everything after realizing that they were just trying to postpone my treatment as much as they could. Horrible. After 5 months I have paid a few hundred euros, consulted with lots of interns, didnt have my problem solved and didnt even a correct diagnosis.

    It’s the biggest hospital in the city. I would like you to joy the chapel witch is left oriented from main entrance. Is very calm and peaceful place in such and busy hospital 🏥.

    We had a great experience with the birth of our child. The maternity ward is very clean and closer to a hotel than a hospital - with private rooms and even a sofa bed for dads to relax on. The staff was absolutely amazing - professional, supportive and empathetic. Forever grateful for the attention and help.

    Just went for a dental emergency I said I needed a specialist for canal root treatment, but I just had two young Drs there were very helpful though, they didn’t do a canal treatment, but now I have to see how it develops with the nerve. I left with so so much pain, the pharmacy is ridiculously slow, I was dying out of pain in my tooth and they didn’t even care, had to wait for 45 minutes, after that, The doors of the building were closed so I couldn’t find my way out, walked around the whole building trying to find an exit with so much pain that I almost fainted…I wouldn’t recommend

    My friend came in on Sunday for treatment but was turned away because his vitals were stable. We were then referred to a doctor in Centraal station who gave the diagnosis of an infection in his upper body (something so vague it may as well just say he was sick). Now in Greece, we went to the hospital again where the doctor immediately picked up it was viral pneumonia worse due to having been left untreated. The doctor seems to listen to my friend and hear his symptoms rather than just rely on vitals. Shout out to OLVG Oost for literally not listening to their patients and not even doing tests. Irresponsible

    Please be careful with your loved ones!! Giving morfine without consent shouldnt be allowed. Very lazy nursery available here. Needed to ask everything ourself. No emergency calls we’re made, they just tell you “we were about to call you”. Don’t trust this hospital your life. They rather take it away then giving you a opportunity…. Things need to be looked at for real.. this is inhumane.

    Terrible experience today. Had an appointment with a doctor, dr Visser. Waited for one month to be attended. When I arrive at time for the appointment, an assistant came to me, saying she would be examining me. I said sorry, with all respect, I am expecting to be helped by a doctor. She said “no problem I will let dr Visser know that”, when she returned she tells me “sorry, dr Visser said she has her own patient and can not attend you”. Whaaaat?? Am I not a patient?? And not to tell I am an intern patient of that hospital for many years! An absurd! My appointment was with dr Visser. How can she tells me she can not attend me?? Now, I understand very well what they are doing. They allure people to believe they are coming for an apartment with a doctor and only when they arrive they would be helped by an student. Come on, I am not going to wait a whole month, drive all the way to a hospital, to be learning material for your students!! That is ridiculous and a waist of my time. I am really extremely upset. What they are doing is misleading people. Because if I, for instance, would have known I would be attended by an assistant, I would not have agreed to that appointment.     a loved one has died here. the nurses and doctors at the intensive care were not engaged with this patient. once we even got a call that the patient had woken up and is doing fine. this wasnt the case ofc they mixed the patient names up willingly or by accident. anyway, if u read this and ur loved one is not under narcose and in the intensive care find an other better hospital. i filed a complaint against the hospital and doctor because they refused to put the patient on the ecmo machine. they didnt wanna give the patient a chance, even though the family was willing to pay for it.

    The reviews here are clearly left only by unhappy people that were not in the best mood and blame the hospital staff for that. From the first person I met coming in the door to each member of staff and could not commend them enough, it is such a well managed hospital. I had a specialist consultation, a blood test for multiple things and multiple xrays all in the space of 1.5 hour! You can not beat that in any part of the world in a public hospital. Amazing people and so clean 👌

    My insurance company advised me to this hospital. I tried to go there on Tuesday evening 15 th Nov with fever over 39 degrees, very bad coughing and sore trouth. I had flight back home on next morning and I was doubting my health condition. But the secretary at the reception did not let me in. She asked me to go to a supermarket and buy covid-test. It was raining, I had arrived by taxi, did not know the neighborhood. I went, did the test (negative), but I did not get in to the reception. I needed to call a doctor who takes care of tourists. The doctor said it is Ok to fly...he did not see me. I have a serious cronic lung disease which I told to doctor. After the flight I was diagonosed with angina tonsillitis and Covid19. The doctor should have ordered me necessary exams and denied me to fly with these diseases. Avoid this hospital with all costs.

    The doctor was extremely incompetent and uninterested to help me resolve my emergency issue. Without taking any needed examinations or tests she of course advised me to take paracetamol and there is no emergency in my case. This is another representation of the miserable Dutch healthcare system based on paracetamol and nothing else. It is a shame to be called a doctor if you don’t know what you are doing and if you have to google symptoms and medications.

    This is a Playground for students(the most useless ones) ...Students without experience are playing with you and with needles, they can't even find your vein. You should have a signature from patients if they are willing to participate in student practicing!! Avoid this center!Avoid this scam center!

    This is a vast, open hospital and medical center. Once inside, there is a large, expansive hallway with a very high ceiling. There is a large lab for blood tests and other things (called a prik chamber here). Also lots of other options for non-emergency or outpatient procedures. There are two large OLVG hospitals in Amsterdam, this one (Oost=East) or the West. Oost is much larger.

    The reception in the emergency department is horrible, I went there 14/01/2023 at 8:40 with fever and headaches and vomit. She didn't take me and tell me that's for the emergency and I have to go my GP. My eyes get blurred and I almost faint there and she saw that and I tell her I can't wait my GP appointment because it's weekend and I serious sick. then she tell me call GP emergency and give me a card. Actually GP emergency was next to it and I first went was there the GP reception guy tell to go emergency. After she didn't take me and I go back to ask him is there another way to get help and he tells me that's the only she decides it's emergency or not. Then I went to main entrance reception there are very kind and tell me I can go GP emergency is next to the emergency department. I went back there then I know the reception guy I talked with was GP emergency. He told me I have to go out and call. But I called more than like 20 minutes was on the line and not picked. Due to sick couldn't hold longer. Then I had to left there with sick without get helped. The lady in the emergency she saw I have full of sweat on my face and how sick I am with fever and head and I almost faint there and she didn't help me

    I usually never write reviews but I now went here 3 times with sooo much pain. THEY NEVER HELPED ME ONCE AND DID NOT HAD A LITTLE BIT OF EMPATHY. If you’re in pain don’t come here they will just make you feel worse in your already uncomfortable situation. The woman in the emergency was the worst another patient was waiting and she treated her with absolutely no respect.

    I have been trying to book an appointment for 6 months for dental surgery. They turn me down via email, instead asking to call. If I’m lucky enough to pick up, they will ask to call in a few weeks or even over a month. Just spent 15 minutes queuing on the phone again only for the person to pick up and instantly hang up.

    I recently visited the emergency room and had a mixed experience. Unfortunately, the receptionist was not very helpful and lacked empathy, leaving me feeling uneasy. I expected more understanding and guidance during such a stressful time. On a positive note, calling the GP and waiting for an appointment beforehand proved to be a better option, with their receptionist being remarkably nice and helpful in contrast to the emergency room staff. I recommend contacting the GP first to save time and ensure a smoother experience.

    SAMPLES sent GET LOST over and over again. Update: the sample submitted in hand got lost the third time, i am unsure whats do they do with the samples. My GP asked me sent my stool samples here for analysis, i was provided a kit for that, and followed all procedures and sent it via post(yes thats how its done here) Called my GP after a week for results, they called OLVG to enquire, reported back to me that “sorry this isn’t the first time this has happened but the samples cannot be located, would you do another test”. So i did another test, but didn’t post it, instead i delivered them myself to the concerned department at the hospital, the person there took them form me and kept them in a fridge near their department reception counter. A week goes by i call my GP and enquire if they have my results, after a while they inform me that they enquired at the OLVG again and the samples or analysis cannot be located again. I am very unsure of what to do with this experience, do they just throw away the samples they receive for analysis? On my part i did crosscheck everything twice i.e. details on the sample box etc etc. i am sure this explains why i leave such a detailed low review. Yet to be fair i would say the hospital has great decor and art, the people at the reception both the main and the concerned department where well behaved, i didn’t encounter any animosity there.

    Bad experience. Went for a check up due to a facial injury. Injury looked worse afterwards and slowed down the recovery. Doctor cut open the wound although he didn’t have to. Afterwards, he admitted that there was not much wrong with it. I did not receive any anesthetics and was accused of why I did not take any pain killers before coming there. Everything was rushed trough. Thus, the treatment was highly painful, bad, and I felt uncomfortable.

From May 2020, a banner hung in front of the entrance of the OLVG East hospital in Amsterdam East. It hung on the fence of the opposite Oosterpark. Rightly so! (Original) Ik heb al tientallen jaren goede zorg en operaties gekregen in dit ziekenhuis. Hartelijk dank! Het is een heel waardevolle plek voor Amsterdam en de Amsterdammers aan deze kant van de stad. Vanaf mei 2020 hing er een spandoek voor de ingang van het OLVG-Oost ziekenhuis in Amsterdam-Oost. Het hing aan het hek van het tegenoverliggende Oosterpark. En terecht!

    We had our first baby at the hospital and had a great experience, staff was very polite, everyone spoke english as that was easier for us. Our choices and wishes were well respected. In the hindsight, delivering at the hospital was a good decision for the mother, as the complications were dealt with swiftly and very professionally.

    Amazing, professional, friendly and caring staff from the receptionists to the nurses to the doctors. I gave birth to my daughter in the maternity ward here and am also going now with a minor issue and everyone I've dealt with has been more than fantastic. I'm also very grateful that they everyone seems to speak fantastic English.

    Very good ER facility, I accidentally cut my wrist with cheese knife (cheese was delicious though) and bled for an hour so the hotel receptionist who helped me clean and disinfect my injury suggested this ER and got admitted and seen by a nurse who gladly helped me fix my cut, it took me 35 mns and voilà! Back to enjoying amsterdam! Thank you!

    I haven't been to the ER, only the dermatology department. Everyone I met had been helpful and patient with me, especially the reception. The hospital is clean and bright, every queue is automated. I've had the smoothest experience getting blood tests and X-rays. Sure, Dutch healthcare made me start off with a less effective medication, but after two weeks I got prescribed biologicals. Overall, I've seen better hospitals but it's still one of the best.

    I hv all my pregnancy checks (blood test etc) and my delivery of mg first baby at olvg. All the experience was great. The staff is extremely friendly (eg while I had to wait for a few hours because of the sugar test, they ask me to wait in the employee canteen instead of the normal waiting area). But I’m most impressed by the delivery process. Everyone was not only professional, fast, competent but also EXTREMELY caring and friendly. It didn’t feel like a cold hospital but a very warm experience. For example: 1. The nurse in charge of pain controlling is normally staying in a different room monitoring the data. I went to the toilet so the data was not sending or showing weird numbers. He immediately ran to our room and asked whether everything was ok. We had to laugh at how worried he seemed to be 2. My midwife during the day stayed for a few extra hours with me after her shift has ended and the night shift midwife was already with me. So for the last bit of my delivery I had two midwives helping. And when the baby was all good, she had to leave. She felt really sorry and told me sorry I have to leave, and I was like yes of course you should have ended your work day three hours ago!!! 3. One nurse was asking for our phone and taking photos for the last bit of “exciting moment”. Without her, we would hv forgotten it and not hv nice recording of the experience 4. My boyfriend is allergic to gluten. And the hospital offers very good meals and drink (someone would ask us a few times - what do you wanna eat? What do you want to drink? Here is the menu, etc) we didn’t wanna make more work for them and said we only need one portion because of the allergy and it’s usually difficult to arrange. The nurse immediately said oh no not a problem at all! We have all kinds of gluten free options and immediate brought back a full plate of gluten free food!! 5. The kraamzorg was also extremely nice. She helped me to walk down the bed and take shower, guided me every step where to look and walk. And she scrubbed my back and dried my back, and even dried my flip flops before I walked out of the shower. I think even my mom won’t be as caring as her… 6. We did have some small hiccups during the delivery but the whole medical team took the right decision at the right time and everything worked out in the end. They were, again, so calm and competent and professional. I cannot be happier with my whole experience with them

    after getting covid and have asthma and got non stoppable coughing, my doctor sent me to this hospital for diagonosis. As someone who study the healthcare system, I am ‘amazed’ by how inefficient and uncoordinated this hospital works. Before I take any blood test and xray, I was told to pay first, because I have a private insurance, which I did. then 3 weeks later received the same bill for the same exams I took but six euros less. My doctor and I have to wait for 2 weeks for a simple chest x ray and throat x ray. Not professional, not friendly to patients.

    Lung department(8th floor B) is the most unprofessional team we ever met. At night they rather watch movies together then paying attention to patients calling for help. Untrained unprofessional staff. Every nurse does it her own way, young untrained “doctors” Imagine the nurse asking your oxygen finger meter to check the client instead of using the hospital equipment. This shocked me so much. She even wanted to prove her right by testing it with their equipment.. the test was 5% off meaning someone could be in dangerous health!! Not sure if they are underpaid or don’t like their job/life at all, but disgusting service! Rest in peace to all the people who died on this department due lack of professionalism.
