In Amsterdam but not in Amsterdam since it’s Noord. I had a pleasant experience here. If you follow Google maps by bike to travel here from centraal station, it may take you to the back entrance. I was late since I didn’t know where to enter. Very small cafe but does the job. Don’t forget to get there ahead of time so you can register at the front desk. I did pass a lovely windmill on the journey here.

Really poor service at the reception of radiology department route 54. Afro American woman (don’t know her name) with short hair was absolutely impolite. She kept speaking Dutch to me even though I don’t understand a word. When I asked to speak English she told me that I live in Holland and have to speak Dutch. Just fyi, I only arrived in Holland 3 months ago and I work in an English speaking company. Didn’t have any issue before with NOT speaking Dutch. I don’t understand what is the point of treating people like that? Most of the people do not come to the hospital for a good reason, so I think staff needs to make them feel better but bad. All doctors and nurses I met there were very nice except this one specific person. Hope the hospital can take into consideration this unprofessional and unethical behavior. Thank you

Paid almost €3000 for an emergency situation with my 5 month old. Cash, as I am not insured through the Dutch healthcare system. Trying to get a proper invoice now, but communication is very very poor. People seem ill informed, don’t return phone calls or messages through their website. Doctors seemed ok, but the administration and everything else is chaotic. Would not recommend this place unless you’re insured and don’t care what you get while it’s already paid for.

Hey folks, A couple of weeks ago, our family grew by one, thanks to the amazing team at BovenIJ. With a challenging pregnancy due to a cyst, my wife and I ended up having a planned C-section. During this time, we had the chance to interact with numerous professionals—gynaecologists, midwives, nurses, and others who showed us the warmest care and highest expertise. Every person we met made us feel at ease, kindly guiding us through the process before, during, and even after the operation. We spent the night at the hospital and felt completely at home, surrounded by an empathetic and caring staff. Here's a bit about me—I'm originally from Istanbul, and my parents are both doctors, so I've got a bit of a sense for the medical world. Comparatively, I have to say, the care at BovenIJ is truly commendable. If you're considering BovenIJ, here's my take: It's an institution full of wonderful, dedicated individuals who won't just look after you medically, but will also make your journey an emotionally supported one. Big thanks to the BovenIJ team—you have our heartfelt gratitude. While we're just a party of three, the gratitude we hold for you fills a stadium. Keep up the brilliant work!

I would like to share my positive experience of giving birth at BovenIJ hospital. Although I had a planned c-section for 2nd of December, I was taken to an emergency c-section on 30th of November there. The whole gynecology department that I came across during my examinations was very sweet but my main positive experience is that all the members of the team I came across during and after my operation and during my hospital stay did their job very well. As an English speaking expat and someone who doesn't have much experience with the Dutch healthcare system, I had a lot of concerns before a major operation like c-section. However, everyone who took care of me and my baby at the Moeder Kind Centrum was surreally empathetic, caring and helpful. I think it is a great chance to have completed an experience such as giving birth with the help of people who do their job with such love, and I thank everyone who made me think so.

After confirming they WOULD follow our birth wishes, this hospital did not respect our birth wishes on several occasions, threatened us to find a new hospital when we complained they were not following our agreed wishes (on the day of the birth), rushed us to make decisions about c section/epidural because their "people needed to go home" and then rushed us out of the room where my wife recovered as soon as she was "able to stand" after a c section (where our birth wishes were ignored again), long before the industry recommended 2 to 3 days. If they were honest and told us they wouldn't follow our wishes we would have went to OLVG, and we should have. This hospital doesn't care about you or your baby or what is best for you, only themselves. Apparently they don't have the staff or energy to be a real hospital. They'd rather go home. I trusted they had our best interests in mind and now only have myself to blame. Do what is best for your family and avoid this hospital for child birth.

Amazing nurses and doctors! We received an exceptional care here. I was very impressed at each stage of the process. Our son Mark was born here a few weeks ago. We had to quickly go for a delivery and I really appreciate all the help we got because of the unexpected situation. Thanks a lot and bless you! ♥

The person who designed this hospital must like designing offices for the "Bureau of Complaints" as he gives a completely new meaning to the word "Inaccessible".

We gave birth to our child in this hospital. It was a tough delivery and the staff here helped us a lot. From informing us about potential risks and necessities to procedures in delivery. I don’t understand why such a place would have such low rate on Google Maps. In our experience, everything went very well, and we are very thankful for the staff that helped us to bring our child to life!

a horrible experience, after going to the emergency room 4 times with my 6-month-old baby with vomiting and diarrhea (for 5 days), terrible diarrhea, my son becoming dehydrated, they finally admitted him in the 24 hours that his stay lasted, all very well, until today the doctor Hendrixs discharged her from the hospital, with my baby still sick, she continues with continuous diarrhea, we have discussed and I hold her totally responsible if something happens to my baby, I will also file a claim with the hospital, we already paid a month a lot so that they don't even leave a baby a day or two more.

Twice in my life I needed surgery, the first was for acute severe appendicitis and the next time it was for my throat. Each time I have been treated at this hospital and each time it has saved my life. . . Will always be grateful for this With much appreciation Jimmy

Brought in in the late afternoon by ambulance with a broken ankle. Helped immediately, very friendly and professional staff, operated upon 10 days later (when the swelling had subsided), informative staff, surgeon. Was planned to stay overnight, but since everything went well and nurses helped me to get an early appointment with a physio therapist, I was released early in the evening instead of the next morning, thereby releasing a bed for someone else. 2 checks, change and removal of cast since. Same experience, quick, professional friendly staff and a general atmosphere like you feel at home. Of course all of the above at minimal out of pocket cost thanks to our Dutch socialised health care system.

We went to emergency via evening GP because my wife has severe cold, asthma, coughing/vomiting a lot and can not sleep. They did basic tests I am already doing home such as checking fever (even people who did not go to primary school knows that), checking oxygen with the oximeter I already have home and listening breath. They did not do any blood tests to see if something else is wrong. My wife asked for some treatments to make her sleep well. They said just go home and take paracetamol. We went there basically for no reason and they are charging money for that because it is an emergency "treatment"!

The nurses / receptionists / other staff don’t wear masks in the middle of the third wave of Coronavirus. Not even when they get close to patients.

I have quite a complaint. See the picture. This is what happened in the Scope department during a routine MDL on Tuesday 20-2. My father was pricked for blood by several people. Without success. Yes, it looks and reads well. This is the result of that. Now a month later he still has huge bruises from it. The patient's instructions and wishes are simply not listened to. Besides the fact that they are a bunch of inept idiots with an IQ of a pea. No apologies, nothing. This is apparently normal practice there. In any case, you have been warned

Visiting times are very limited from 2:30 to 2:30 and from 7:30 to 8:30. Other hospitals in Amsterdam have a much broader policy, they can learn something from it

Today, I visited the ER suspecting I needed an appendectomy. From the moment I arrived, the care I received was exceptional. After several tests confirmed the need for surgery, the team was incredibly supportive. Everyone I encountered was friendly, kind, and transparent about the process. A special shout-out to Annemakie, whose humor and sweetness made my post-surgery recovery on the station more pleasant. The whole experience was positive, and I'm grateful for the high level of care and empathy shown by all staff. Thank you!

we had a premature medical birth here and they made the whole experience very positive. everyone at the mother and child center was very patient and thoughtful throughout our 2 week stay and we feel very lucky to have been here and not anywhere else. it was also possible for the partner to sleep at the hospital and they were very kind with speaking to us in English (still learning Dutch but not there yet). forever grateful!

Experience mother child centre. Very impressed with their professionalism and loving care. Take time to bring you as parents up to speed as well. Facilities brand new and high tech. Could not have felt better taken care of.

I have had great experiences with the personnel of the hospital in the past. Unfortunately, last week I had to deal 2 times with the same person for echos (for myself and my baby). She was incredibly unfriendly. People like her should not work with patients.

I didn't have a great experience at Boven'IJ. Secretaries were very rude and/or openly annoyed to have to speak in English with me. Reading through some other reviews it seems that I am not the only person complaining about this. The registering secretary kept on talking Dutch to me even though I would not understand. The doctor I saw asked why my Dutch is good and said I should be making an effort to practice - as doctors also make an effort to speak English. Fair point, but patients do not come for a consultation to receive a moral lesson. It made me feel really uncomfortable and judged. It was unnecessary when in pain and in a vulnerable position. Not everyone does speak fluent Dutch yet everyone should be treated the same, especially at the hospital. I'm taking the time to write this review as I believe this is not one isolated case, many expats are experiencing the same and this should not happen.

I read negative experiences here about various departments and that is precisely why I want to post my very positive experience regarding emergency admission/pulmonary department/cardiology here. A real congratulations to those who cared for and treated me. Thank you.
