Emergency department is so scary, if you're in pain and need to see a doctor ASAP do not go there. They will take you only if you're dying or have a "life-threatening experience". I had a very bad throat infection that was restricting my breathing and swallowing and they refused to see me. The lady at emergency was clearly racist and didn't want to help because I'm not Dutch. Finally was able to see a huisarts there that gave me some pills and said they can't do anything else for me. Same thing happened to my boyfriend 2 years ago, he went with knee injury and they said it's nothing. Refused to do a scan. He had to go back to Spain and do an MRI to realise that it's an ACL tear and needed emergency surgery. Can't believe I'm paying 150€ per month for insurance and get this inhumane treatment with zero empathy.

I was here twice with emergency. Once on Xmas, the other middle of the night. Super caring, attentive, patient personal. I am grateful for my quick recovery, and my scar on the face is very small, cause the emergency doctors really made an effort. Lots of love and power in your work πŸ€πŸ™πŸ»πŸ§

Been here multiple times for eye infection. First of all every time includes long waiting times and a lot of walking around the hospital from desk to desk to take care of payments and insurance related things which is ridiculous. Second of all the so called β€œeye doctors” every time miss diagnose my eye infection even though I told them exactly what I need and same treatment as my doctor always does in Finland. But they do not listen or care but misdiagnose your treatment. Just tell you come back in a week and then it’s already worse. Dutch healthcare system is one of the worst I’ve seen.

Imagine forcing someone experiencing breathing issues and severe pain when speaking to fill in all details verbally over a phone after making them wait an hour on hold. No alternative was offered despite everything be preemptively written down to avoid the pain. This rigid system must work in specific situations sure, but as a hospital - you should be more accessible to people in difficult circumstances (e.g. those without access to a phone).

the worst urgency, they are lazy, rude, incompetent and negligent. They sent me home with a painkiller for not wanting to do their job, I had a cervical sprain and I sued them. My lawyer says they're going to pay me for negligence. if the same thing happens to them, report them, they have to learn to be professionals.

I had a bike accident sometime ago, and I was taken by the ambulance to OLVG hospital. They have done x-ray at the hospital, then they said that I don't have any fracture and they let me leave with crutches. At this moment, I could barely walk, no one asked me if I live alone or if I have stairs at my house, they just wanted to get rid of me ASAP. Then they gave me an appointment 1 week after this accident for examination. I went to see the specialist, she had a quick look at my leg and she said "where are you from?" after I answered her, she stopped immediately and said that my knee doesn't seem to have any injury and she scheduled MRI after 3 weeks, she said we won't find anything though in it, and she referred me to a physiotherapist. Two days later I went to see a physiotherapist and after she examined me, she said I can't work with you until I see the MRI, cause I might be having a bad injury and that's why I can't move my knee. Luckily I could find another clinic that could do the MRI faster. The MRI report has revealed that I have ACL full injury, major injury medial maniscus and folded meniscus, tear mid region of lateral maniscus. I tried to contact OLVG again to let them know that I have the report ready and obviously the other clinic has already sent it to them as well , they keep saying we have long waiting lists. I complained twice at their complaints department and nothing happened. The last couple of days I started to feel pain in the calf and the foot feels like I have been walking forever which could be symptoms of deep vinous thrombosis that might occur cause of not using my leg for quite long time . I again called and sent emails, it's like talking to myself. My worst experience ever with hospitals.

I had to go to OLVGH for an annual diabetes check and new insulin pump. After waiting a month for the form, I called and asked for a blood test form. Oh, haven't you had that? said the operator, no, I said. They sent it neatly to my house, a month later I was sober at 7:50 for a blood test in the west location. I went to the counter with my form, she said No, you must have already made an appointment. I said oh I didn't know🫣how was I supposed to know? She said it's on your form.πŸ‘€where did I say? She looks and she said hummm . Not stated. But it has been like that for two years 🧐 I said I haven't experienced it. I don't come here every day ma'am, this letter is from the GP. She said πŸ”₯ I said,,,no ma'am, that's from OLVGH's house, that's what it says on the letter. Well you sit down and wait 😠ok I sat down obediently πŸ•, 30 people came in and left after me. I'm going to Bali again. And I said I'm sober and I'm not feeling well. Arrogantly the other side is looked at and she said. Sit down and wait for your turn. I felt like I was going to get hypo. I was really tired πŸ˜” meanwhile I was in the waiting room with another person. I had the number B009. B006 after a while numbers 7 and 8. Then a nurse came and called number b,6 7,8 I said they are not. She left, I was really nauseous and a bit dizzy. I went to the counter again, and I said I'm not good and the number doesn't go any further. And suddenly number B started ringing. I'm happy ☺️ I looked at the board and to my surprise it was number B0006 again. I wet the counter again and I admit that I unconsciously raised my voice, I was really feeling bad πŸ€• and no one did anything. Then a nurse came and said sir, you haven't made an appointment and just have to wait. And I wanted to say what happened. She said you have to sit quietly. And there's no one here. Why do I have to wait? Instead of helping me, she calls security. Suddenly 3 very great gentlemen came and stood around me and they listened to my story and they left without any problem or action. I have been a patient at Slotervaarziken Huis for 20 years. Never seen such arrogant people behind the counter. Well, in the end I was convinced. And I ran to the shop to get two sweet drinks. Because I was completely drowsy. Later I called the hospital to talk to the head of blood collection. He wasn't there. I called OLVGH east. A nice lady said he is in a meeting and I can say my translation to her. I told you what happened. She said I will talk to the manager and you will hear from me. I emphasized that I have no complaint and I just wanted to say that the ladies in West also take the patients more into account. Well , it was two weeks ago . I look calm and well behaved. I have to go to the doctor's office tomorrow and I am going to register for the other doctor's office. Very disappointing.

If you are an expat, you can start praying. You can be dying bleeding or with a broken leg, knee or head trauma, they will schedule you in 3 months as they claim they are busy to save your life.

I was referred by my GP for an emergency treatment and was very impressed with the care I received. Everyone I encountered was very friendly and caring and took my worries seriously. After a diagnosis was made I ended up having an emergency operation and the staff was super friendly after I voiced that I was scared since this was my first operation ever. I felt like everyone I met did their absolute best and the aftercare check up was also great with absolutely no waiting time. All of the nurses seemed very caring and engaged to make everyone feel as comfortable as possible. I felt informed about every step that was happening during the whole process.

I visited one of the dermatologists of the Department of Dermatology for a mole check-up and he suggested me to remove one mole on my chest. He said that the operation would consist of smoothening the existing mole to avoid an ugly scar on the skin. Another doctor (maybe still in specialization?) performed the operation and removed the mole as indicated by the doctor of the first visit. Few weeks after the operation, I noticed that the spot where the mole was removed was not really healing properly and, after a few more weeks, a new (very ugly) mole grew again on that spot. When I went to the initial doctor for the check-up, he told me this happened because of "bad luck". Is this a good explanation? I leave others to judge... but I would like to add that, when I later visited another dermatologist (for a second opinion) to show the new re-growing mole, he asked about the shape of the removed one and, when understood, he said that smoothening that type of mole is a very basic mistake that it is usually made at the first operation in the first year of specialization, not a mistake that an ordinary dermatologist should make.

(Translated by Google) Overall unfortunate situation certainly for a hospital. Long waiting times disinterest with staff. Poor telephone accessibility and a parking fee for which they should actually wash and refuel your car. Think that everyone is doing their best, but that planning and procedures are not on order. A good example is a portal which the specialists and employees themselves do not seem to use and sometimes do not know. Fortunately there are alternatives but you have to consciously choose otherwise this will come out automatically through your doctor ... This prevents a lot of frustration & disappointments.

Suzanna (spelling?), a nurse in the emergency room is AMAZING. I cut my hand open with glass and suspected I needed stitches. I was the only one in the waiting room and barely waited 1 minute before I was called in to be seen. My nurse, Suzanna, was incredibly kind, calm, compassionate, efficient, professional, and extremely detail oriented. I so appreciate how much attention she gave to each wound on my hand (5 of them total). She was very precise in matching up my skin folds. The whole emergency experience with her was so noteworthy, I had to write a positive review. If I could give her flowers for how great her care was, I would. She deserves a raise! :)

Regarding the emergency room. I give the second star only because the lady who assisted me inside was kind. But otherwise despite my pregnancy, zero priorities. Basically, to get due attention you have to be dying! If you're apparently not sick, it's not serious. So even if you are experiencing strong pain and discomfort, for them you have no problem, they give you a phone number to call so you can make an appointment to come in and be examined. Where the wait is endless, i spent 1 hour and 15 minutes getting in touch with someone. And when i finally got in, not even a proper ultrasound, just a routine visit but no insights into my condition. I found it all very superficial. And especially during pregnancy i find it quite serious! They leave things too much to chance!

The staff are really nice and talkative. I got iv/drop of Iron today and the nurse placed the iv not in the right place.. I asked is it normal that I have pain, and one of them answered yes. So I kept it untill it got swollen.. :( and still they didn't understand till doctor came. Unfortunately the nurse which placed the iv for me, didn't even say sorry. She just dissappear.. Very sad. Now I have to walk with half blue arm.. Plus I'm pregnant in my last weeks. I chose this hospital for my delivery.. Now I start to doubt about it...

Very bad hospital, I have a 40 degree fever and bad throat infection, and the urgent care wouldn’t take me, GP is impossible to reach by phone not to say make a appointment. The old white receptionist lady is extremely unhelpful and just sits there doing nothing than to help me. Wouldn’t believe the seriousness of my issue and racism is the only explanation. Why do you have a hospital that’s impossible to get treated

This is the Wild Wild West of Healthcare. They sent me a bill of 30.000 Euros for consultations that never happened, or were highly inflated in time. When asked to provide grounds for consideration of the liability, they simply refused and said they would reconsider the entire bill. Doctors are rude and lack ethical training. If you need to go to A&E here, think twice and consider your options.

Arrived there with ankle injury at 23.00. After waiting in different corridors without anyone in front of me, at around 1.00 they finally could make an X-ray. At 2.00 they concluded that my foot is OK and I can go home and take paracetamol in case I have pain. After 5 months I receive invoice of 266 EUR, basically for having X-ray. When I called them for more details, they could not explain where exactly this amount comes from, but I have to pay it. And I still have pain in my ankle which is still a bit swollen.

Took around 6 weeks before I had an appointment and also when you get there, you sometimes have to wait 45 minutes before it is your turn because of a delay. This is a 3rd world service. Doctors & staff are unprofessional, insulting, long waiting time. Was discharged despite having symptoms that could be life threatening. Positive expat experience overall. Went into emergency with a knee injury and was seen by a doctor who spoke english and made me feel very comfortable. They x-rayed the knee and gave me a follow up appointment. When I went for the follow up both doctors were extremely professional, fluent in english and referred me for an MRI to be on the safe side. Down side: Reception staff and some nurses at emergency were unfriendly and I assume it's because they did not feel comfortable speaking english. Long-ish waiting times for appointments (around 11 days for follow up).

Went to the emergency with heart palpitations. Turned out to be atrial fibrillation - the emergency doctor diagnosed. Instead of immediately finding me an ECG / EKG they send me home to find one myself the next day. Next day I was admitted to the emergency cardiology care there - telling me its too late to do the cardio version because we are nearing 48hours of my condition. Now I am taking medicine for three weeks - increasing the risk of the cardio version not working because I was not admitted when clearly the protocol stated I need to get an ECG and the condition was already diagnosed. Only plus: the doctors and nurses in the Heart Hulp were excellent, lovely and professional.

Was recently at the hospital with some emergency health issues and as a tourist I had a really good experience. All the staff was very nice and helpful, getting tests done and providing me with timely updates. They even scheduled follow-up tests the week after as well as a follow-up call with the doctor. It’s also a very nice and clean hospital with really comfortable rooms and good waiting facilities.

On March 2, 2024, the day my daughter was born, my mood was like a roller coaster. Part of the reason was that I was nervous, but the main reason was that the staff on duty during the day were inexperienced and couldn't give me good advice. My wife was given painless labor and delivery injections from about 8am to 4pm, but they still had no effect. During this period she also experienced a number of terrifying experiences. At 5 p.m. Lieneke and Noa came to our room. After Lieneke tested my wife, she said something to me very professionally and confidently. Her words calmed my uneasy mood. After Leineke and Noa were professional and with enthusiastic help, my daughter was born smoothly. I would like to sincerely thank them both, but I really can't praise the doctors around noon.

After a brief visit I understand why this hospital has so much bad reviews. The reception lady at the surgery department (route 6) was so mean, patronizing and threatening to cancel our appointment. It’s sad enough to have a broken bone and you go to hospital end up getting bullied by some receptionist. Lady I hope you feel happy and fulfilled bullying sick people at your job, truly β€œselfless” of you.

I had a Transient Ischaemic Attack. TIA, was brought by ambulance and treated in the CT scan room by 4 nurses. It was so unbelievably quick and professional. I think it took about 2 hours, the whole process from home, to being thoroughly checked, having ct scan, blood tests, heart monitors and being dismissed. In Sweden, it took 3 days even though they were very caring, I think in this situation speed is best. Thank you nurses and ambulance people.

My friend and I came because she has a tooth infection, when we talk with the receptionist she gives us an emergency phone number and when I call they ask me if she’s breathing and alive and as she is she’ll pass me with a colegue because it’s not an emergency, no one answers in 20minutes. We then proceed to ask the women in a sort of pharmacy they have in here, they give us a phone number to call and ask for a prescription after 50minutes the doctor sends the prescription and the woman gives us an ASTHMA INJECTION. We call the doctor again he tells us he sent an amoxicillin and naproxen prescription not an injection. We’ve been here for 2 hours now and we’ve got NOTHING. Its ridiculous. The health insurance here is a joke, it doesn’t matter if you have the EHIC or not. Better to come here with all the medicines you have at home because if you have to rely on their assistance you are DONE.

Discharged last Saturday after having been in this hospital for 13 days, I can only describe it as wonderful to have been admitted here, the help and positive approach of the staff and the doctors, a squeeze on the shoulder if necessary, even the care of the food and drinks are perfect. I am aware that waiting for the emergency room takes a long time, but fortunately we cannot see what is happening behind these doors. What these people are faced with (admiration on my part I think not that I would keep that up) So a big 10 from me.
